Im using the factory specs to do the math for this comparison; Bike: Yamaha YZ250F Weight = 231 lbs HP = 39 Power to weight ratio = 0.168 HP per pound Bike: Yamaha YZ 250 (2-Stroke) Weight = 218 lbs HP = 49 Power to weight ratio = 0.224 HP per pound Bike: Yamaha YZ450F Weight = 247lbs HP = 56 Power to weight ratio = 0.226 HP per pound My YZ250 (2 Stroke) Bike: 1998 (yep thats right) YZ 250 (2 Stroke) Weight 212 lbs HP after engine mods and Fat Pipe = Dyno run showed 59 HP Power to weight ratio = 0.279 HP per pound As you can see, a stock YZ250 (2-stroke) has far greater power to weight ratio then the 250F and almost identical power to weight ratio to 450F. The debate is over. My older YZ 250 has best power to weight ration by far even against the 450F. Note: Its easy to make more power over stock with a 2-stroke; It costs many thousands to get any real power gain out of a 4 stroke.

Glad to see a video of a 125 vs a 250f. That's the real equivalency. A 250 would smoke a 250f. But it is all about the rider. Poto won the MXoN on a 250f against a bunch of the best riders in the world, on 450's INCLUDING RC. Just have fun riding whatever you can and like.
@stone465 dude get an 05 125 if ur getting one that's when they first started using aluminum frames but if ur getting parts get procircuit pipe/silencer, and vforce 3 reeds and my suggestions for sprocket, add 1 tooth in the back that's one of the best things you cam do to increase performance!

+Lars W Gjethammer get a 125 its a great bike, and its good too not get a too big bike. Transfer from 85 to 125 is the biggest so dont jump from a 85 to a 250 its a too big of a change

@NICKWRF WRF I think u got the wrong... Replacing a 2 strk top end is cheap as fuck! Under $400 if you do it yourself.... Replacing valves, springs, cylinder, piston on a 4strk can easily turn into a +$700 job depending on damage and parts used. Ive seen them as high as $1000 to fixe a 4strk

I only like 4 strokes for the rev limiter, sounds so cool. I ride a yz125 too and I can't ever see my self getting a 4 stroke. It's just because so like 2 strokes better. (My personal opinion, I'm not saying 4 strokes suck)
its yz125 and yz250f a yzf is a fourwheeler. They are both great beginner bikes. Just depends if you want a snappy two stroke or the smooth power delivery of a four stroke

Hey mate the difference is that a 4strokes power cycle is every 4th stroke and a two strokes power cycle is every 2nd stroke. Hope this helps.
