    Nice find! I always wanted a YZ-WR for a trail bike. If you didn't already know the "wide ratio" on the side is referring to the gearbox. This bike was marketed to enduro riders and had taller gears and a heavier flywheel to facilitate a smoother onset of power and added inertia to keep it from stalling while climing hills and starting from a dead stop. It was basically an answer to the KDX from Kawa. Yamaha did have a 2 stroke trail bike prior to this that was called the "IT". Talking about it makes me want one again!

  • @kukipett
    @kukipett 3 месяца назад +13

    When you first kick it, i heard the noise of a broken bearing, so i was sure that it would be either the connecting rod or main crankshaft bearing. After 40 years of repairing that kind of stuff, your ears are well trained!!! The reason for that bearing to break, well age certainly, on the racing Aprillia bikes we ran the main bearings were rated for 1000km at 14500 rpm. So if the owner of that bike didn't use high grade oil, or not well mixed premix, or forget to put oil in gas sometimes, that kind of thing would happen. Those dirt bikes need a serious attention, no made for a casual user without any mechanical knowledge.

    That's not just any old 1989 YZ250, that's a 1989 YZ250WR which is way more rare and comes with a lighting coil and wide ration gear box. I recognise it because I have one, which I've had from new. The good news is you can still get genuine gaskets and seals for it.
    Edit, the bore is a standard bore and can be re-bored easily and an oversized piston installed. There's also no marking on the piston, so it looks like it's on the standard size.

    Joe, I seen that the bike has a lighting coil / single yellow wire. Check out the vin # again. I believe you have a 1990 WR250 . That has a wide ratio transmission and a lighting coil. WR's are sought after. Worth a rebuild kit. That is a clean 35 year old bike. I have had many wr /yz's . Ball hone that cylinder. If above the exhaust port has zero scratches, should just get a pro-X "D" sized piston. Yes a D is over sized only by 0.04 th. In. Size the rings . Should have another 30 years on the old girl... And get a TM- carburetor for her , she deserves it. E-bay carburetor sucks ....

    Brought back many memories. Thank you, and nice job. I've done similar tear downs myself. A few of the older, as in 50s and 60s German small bikes, sold by Sears, were built with roller transmission shaft bearings that had the inner race pressed on the shaft, or the inner race was the shaft itself, and the outer race pressed in the case. When you split the case, the rollers just fell out loose, both ends. They were much fun to put the cases back together. It took some really stiff grease to hold the rollers in place until all was back together. I was about 13 to 14 years old. It was a good, fun learning experience. I did learn to appreciate the larger Hondas that the cases split top and bottom and had regular bearings. They were a breeze.

    ARGH, frustrating, but happens to all of us. "Oh, it just needs to warm up. Was running fine yesterday." Glad you have the knowledge and patience to work through these issues. BRAVO on 500k, much deserved, and long overdue. Hopefully you get another $1 to spend on parts for this

    Wow dude your videos are too good, I’ve been watching since 2k subs and I’m glad you made it this big buddy and btw the plastics that are on that bike are UFO plastics I can tell by the two stickers on the swing arm lol they are good budget plastics I have them on my 22 yz450 and it’s been dropped plenty of times on the track and they hold up but they do easily get stress marks but overall are pretty strong plastics but you shouldn’t have to worry about stress marks since the bike is already white
