The NHL is consistently inconsistent. It’s getting hard to watch. Sucks that the Devils lost. However I have no idea why that Timo goal was called back. SMH.
When a goaltender reaches to make contact (as Kuemper did) there should be NO interference call. Between goalie interference and some of those dives on tripping penalties, it's starting to turn into soccer! Bad calls dilute the product. If the NHL isn't careful, they'll start losing fans.

Ask #1 - A more clear cut definition of what goalie interference is: 100% agreed we need this although I can see it being hard to define since every play is different and has its nuances and there will inevitably be some level of subjectivity. The NHL should still try to define it better though. Ask #2 - Explanations for calls after the fact from the league: Now this should be easy for them to give. 2 quick official sentences from Toronto for why they made a call. No reason at all why they can't do this. Imagine how much better the transparency would be if after a call was made, a memo gets shot out to all TV broadcasters and the commentators could explain it to everyone watching right on the fly.

Goalie interference sucks because it's a judgment call and feels like it shouldn't be. The rule I dislike more is the retroactive offside - I don't know why we give linesmen a free pass to get calls wrong and then retroactively "fix" them on an as-needed basis. If there was some kind of strategy to it on the part of the coaches, that would be interesting. But that's not what it is. It's just exploiting linesmen's mistakes. "Intent to blow the whistle" might be even worse, but doesn't come up as often. We can't be reversing goals because the officials are blind or slow. The call in the Kings game absolutely sucked but I like to think these things even out over the course of a year.

Totally agree. Back in the day, the refs were pretty good with offsides calls. In last night's Panther/Canes game, Kotkaniemi lost his balance and crashed into Bobrovski, wiping him out. No interference call. Canes scored seconds after. They deemed Tkachuk held Kotkeniemi and didn't let him leave the crease. But they ignored the initial call when he crashed into Bobrovski. Made no sense.
Sabres vs. avs last night, Zach Benson pushed and lands on Scott Wedgewoods leg injuring him, Wedgewood is clearly in pain laying inside the net, Benson gets the puck and scores 5 seconds later

Calls have been going against the Devils for a solid month now. The officiating during the Cane's game was insane. Hamilton just got fined for doing 1/100th of what the Canes did in that game. The main issue is there is absolutely no accountability for ref mistakes. Players, coaches, GMs, and even fans are held accountable for mistakes but not the refs.

As a former goalie I definitely have probably defaulted in the past more to plays being goalie interference than not. But as a Devils fan, (which I realize may skew my perspective a bit,) this was not goaltender interference. The goal on the Rangers actually showed the player shove the butt of his stick into Shesterkin. (I forget the name of that penalty, “spearing?”) You can’t have this rule be subjective and open to interpretation. You have to have it clearly defined, which it is not. Sometimes hard to believe NHL doesn’t play favorites. I too would agree goal for us should’ve counted, goal on Rangers should not have, (clearly to anyone with eyes and the ability to see.)
@ED-op7wk There has to be some level of contact allowed between attacking players and the goaltender. It is inevitable. With that being said, these calls are ALL OVER THE PLACE. Disclosure as a panthers fan here lol: I think that “hit” is a bit exaggerated, he reached out and touched his glove and Igor was able to clear from his screen as the puck approached. If he had made that same movement 2 seconds later than he did I would relent and say you’re 100% right, that it could be considered interference. As far as the NJ that’s just crazy to me that they call that interference.

I lost my mind when that got called "interference", especially because I knew it was going to happen simply due to NJ getting these awful decisions against them far too often. I hate the "did the goalie get a chance to rest" argument because in this case, Kuemper stuck his stick between Noesen's legs which resulted in him not having his stick in the proper position. That wasn't Noesen's fault! As much as I hated the old crease rule, at least when we saw someone's skate was in the blue paint at all, it would be a no-goal. The rule was stupid, but it was easy to understand. This comes across as Toronto picking favorites, even if it isn't the case. They want us to believe these decisions are unbiased and consistent? Then PROVE it by actually calling things down the middle instead of all over the damn place!
@WaltBTB I think this Timo goal getting reversed was one of the worst ones I have seen. Noesen was clearly nudged into him, and he barely touched him as it was. Kuemper initiated contact with Noesen by putting his glove on his a$s AND the stickwork between the legs. Complete infuriating sequence of events. Hello Ace, Completely off topic but I just saw something saying that Dougie was just fined by the NHL of $2,000 for rule 64 (Diving/Embellishment) from the Dec, 23rd game against the rangers. idk about you but I'm starting to sense a lot of BS and hate coming towards the Devils from not only the refs but from the league as well. on anther note i think they should do something about the Goaltender interference call because that was a BS call against Nosen who doesn't even know what a goaltender interference call is. but just thought i would come by and let you know the league just fined Dougie for BS call almost over a week ago. I think someone who’s a former professional goaltender making these calls would help. Sometimes the seemingly little things from the skater(s) make a big difference and the seemingly big things will make a little difference (for example when a goaltender is handcuffed because of opposing skaters it can fly under the radar at times)

Dawg did you see Avs Sabres last night - Benson (Sabres) falls on Wedgewood albeit he was pushed, he didn’t have to fall on Wedge like that. Wedge gets injured & Benson scores a LEGAL goal after injuring him- NOT goalie interference 🤯

ABSOLUTELY! I made a post on the Devils subreddit a couple of days on behalf of a *different* Rangers goal against that I thought was blatant interference and it was zip. Shesty got knocked to the damn floor in the other one and there was no call. I DO NOT CARE if this means more calls go against us, I just want consistent officiating. If the calls are consistent we can learn to play within that system. What we have no is fucking ridiculous.

I blame Bettman. He should be prioritizing this and mandating all the reffing inconsistencies be addressed asap, but doesn’t want to put the effort in to fix difficult things. Totally lazy. I feel bad for the refs same as I do the players - they need clear cut rule definitions. Then once it’s fixed, you hold the refs accountable and score them game by game and review/grade them in total at the end of the season. Bettman seriously sucks. Doesn’t know how to lead and deserves the boo’s.

All sports as we knew it all changed with the legalization of sports betting the games are played by humans and officiated by humans which leads to human error which we always had to live with all sports is now all about the almighty dollar controlled by the betting sites just a thought

It has totally affected the officiating in sports replay in many cases doesn't seem to get it right especially with goalie interference and catches in football I have enjoyed sports for over 60 years and find it hard to watch tech sports the athletes are what sport should be all about

Intent to blow the whistle is a goddamned racket IMHO. It’s absurd. How can that be a thing?? Everyone keeps playing and the red gets to arbitrarily decide when they might have blown the whistle?? The fuck?

In last night's Panther/Canes game, Kotkaniemi lost his balance and crashed into Bobrovski, wiping him out. No interference call. Canes scored seconds after. They deemed Tkachuk held Kotkeniemi and didn't let him leave the crease. But they ignored the initial call when he crashed into Bobrovski. Made no sense.
Sabres vs. avs last night, Zach Benson pushed and lands on Scott Wedgewoods leg injuring him, Wedgewood is clearly in pain laying inside the net, Benson gets the puck and scores 5 seconds later

As you spoke about the post game live yesterday? Any Devils goal that goes under video review is going to go against them. I honestly believe the referees have no love lost for the Devils.

Calls have been going against the Devils for a solid month now. The officiating during the Cane's game was insane. Hamilton just got fined for doing 1/100th of what the Canes did in that game. The main issue is there is absolutely no accountability for ref mistakes. Players, coaches, GMs, and even fans are held accountable for mistakes but not the refs.
@Robdammit It is all maddening. Dougie getting fined when Necas laid on the ice like he was murdered is pure lunacy. The refs AND Toronto need to be held accountable. This is a real mess for the NHL right now. LET'S GO DEVILS!!!
As a former goalie I definitely have probably defaulted in the past more to plays being goalie interference than not. But as a Devils fan, (which I realize may skew my perspective a bit,) this was not goaltender interference. The goal on the Rangers actually showed the player shove the butt of his stick into Shesterkin. (I forget the name of that penalty, “spearing?”) You can’t have this rule be subjective and open to interpretation. You have to have it clearly defined, which it is not. Sometimes hard to believe NHL doesn’t play favorites. I too would agree goal for us should’ve counted, goal on Rangers should not have, (clearly to anyone with eyes and the ability to see.)
@ED-op7wk There has to be some level of contact allowed between attacking players and the goaltender. It is inevitable. With that being said, these calls are ALL OVER THE PLACE. The Timo goal should have definitely counted. The result of the two goals I showed in this video are truly astonishing. LET'S GO DEVILS!!!
Disclosure as a panthers fan here lol: I think that “hit” is a bit exaggerated, he reached out and touched his glove and Igor was able to clear from his screen as the puck approached. If he had made that same movement 2 seconds later than he did I would relent and say you’re 100% right, that it could be considered interference. As far as the NJ that’s just crazy to me that they call that interference.
@Bolterandblade Either way you slice it, the "interference" on the example of that Panthers goal is FAR more than the Devils vs. Kings example. I just want consistency. I lost my mind when that got called "interference", especially because I knew it was going to happen simply due to NJ getting these awful decisions against them far too often. I hate the "did the goalie get a chance to rest" argument because in this case, Kuemper stuck his stick between Noesen's legs which resulted in him not having his stick in the proper position. That wasn't Noesen's fault! As much as I hated the old crease rule, at least when we saw someone's skate was in the blue paint at all, it would be a no-goal. The rule was stupid, but it was easy to understand. This comes across as Toronto picking favorites, even if it isn't the case. They want us to believe these decisions are unbiased and consistent? Then PROVE it by actually calling things down the middle instead of all over the damn place!
@WaltBTB I think this Timo goal getting reversed was one of the worst ones I have seen. Noesen was clearly nudged into him, and he barely touched him as it was. Kuemper initiated contact with Noesen by putting his glove on his a$s AND the stickwork between the legs. Complete infuriating sequence of events. Hopefully the league figures it out soon, fans all over are getting pissed. LET'S GO DEVILS!!!

Hello Ace, Completely off topic but I just saw something saying that Dougie was just fined by the NHL of $2,000 for rule 64 (Diving/Embellishment) from the Dec, 23rd game against the rangers. idk about you but I'm starting to sense a lot of BS and hate coming towards the Devils from not only the refs but from the league as well. on anther note i think they should do something about the Goaltender interference call because that was a BS call against Nosen who doesn't even know what a goaltender interference call is. but just thought i would come by and let you know the league just fined Dougie for BS call almost over a week ago. I think someone who’s a former professional goaltender making these calls would help. Sometimes the seemingly little things from the skater(s) make a big difference and the seemingly big things will make a little difference (for example when a goaltender is handcuffed because of opposing skaters it can fly under the radar at times)
@Surl9596 The reality is that they need to define much better parameters as to what IS and ISN'T allowed. Nobody has any idea, and based on the decisions we have seen from some of these reviews, the people in Toronto don't know either. It is all over the place and is completely unacceptable. The players and fans deserve much better. I hope the NHL takes this seriously as players and fans as a whole have talked about what a disaster this has been for some time now. LET'S GO DEVILS!!!

Dawg did you see Avs Sabres last night - Benson (Sabres) falls on Wedgewood albeit he was pushed, he didn’t have to fall on Wedge like that. Wedge gets injured & Benson scores a LEGAL goal after injuring him- NOT goalie interference 🤯

ABSOLUTELY! I made a post on the Devils subreddit a couple of days on behalf of a *different* Rangers goal against that I thought was blatant interference and it was zip. Shesty got knocked to the damn floor in the other one and there was no call.
I DO NOT CARE if this means more calls go against us, I just want consistent officiating. If the calls are consistent we can learn to play within that system. What we have no is fucking ridiculous.

I blame Bettman. He should be prioritizing this and mandating all the reffing inconsistencies be addressed asap, but doesn’t want to put the effort in to fix difficult things. Totally lazy. I feel bad for the refs same as I do the players - they need clear cut rule definitions. Then once it’s fixed, you hold the refs accountable and score them game by game and review/grade them in total at the end of the season. Bettman seriously sucks. Doesn’t know how to lead and deserves the boo’s.

All sports as we knew it all changed with the legalization of sports betting the games are played by humans and officiated by humans which leads to human error which we always had to live with all sports is now all about the almighty dollar controlled by the betting sites just a thought

These companies are some of the big sponsors for TV/in the arena/etc. There is dedicated segments before and throughout all games, talking about the betting lines. It is complete madness. It has totally affected the officiating in sports replay in many cases doesn't seem to get it right especially with goalie interference and catches in football I have enjoyed sports for over 60 years and find it hard to watch tech sports the athletes are what sport should be all about
