The Canada team was poorly coached. The team having 11 first round draft picks and a couple others that likely will be first rounders was no way of putting a good team together. A good team has to have a blend of offensive stars as well as a collection of grinders and muckers that put effort into every shift. Hockey Canada is directly responsible for this. Academy’s and privatization is forcing families to other sports. On the world stage we are climbing in soccer, Basketball, baseball , golf and other sports because that’s where our best athletes are forced to go. Here’s the deal Hockey Canada has ruined the CHL. No hitting no fighting. Half of the games are played on the PP/PK. Now with the new NCAA rules. CHL teams have no choice but the play the top player all the time. Or risk them leaving for a US college . In Europe the kids play on the 3/4 line on men’s teams. They have the earn every shift. Learn how to play in their own end against men .
The Czech game looked like a u16 AAA playing u18 AA team. Bigger and stronger always wins when it’s best on best. But because of the officiating in Canada and the CHL becoming and soft league the Canadians have no chance in competing anymore. Self inflicted wounds

There are far more players playing minor hockey in the US now than in Canada. Players from all over the world move around and play in different leagues. Yes Canada is deep but so are other teams like the US. Bottom line is Canada can’t rest on its past hockey glory days and I think Canadians need to understand that the days of walking into a gold medal round at the WJ’s is over. Canada needs to do better selecting its players and coaches. Other countries have totally caught up with their own nation’s hockey programs. The US program, which started by modeling itself off of the Canadian program, is now so much better with the tweaking they’ve done. For example, in Latvia, there is a generation of various hockey veterans from various leagues now, and they know how to play. Plenty of blame to go around. From the suits in the boardroom, all the way down to player selection/performance and Coaching. I heard they are going to fire the Popcorn vendor in the arena for poor distribution of the butter on half the orders. Seriously though, I just dont buy the theory/excuse that the team was built for some seven-game series style composition. This team would have been blown out in that kind of format. For me, the biggest issue was a lack of discipline. Dave Cameron talked a big game about having "discipline over emotion" but the players never got that memo. IIHF Refs are wayyyyy less tolerant of rougher/physical play than CHL/NHL Refs are AND OUR PLAYERS KNEW that coming into this tourney. Yet, with all our coaching and assistants and experts and media harping on the team about it, they never made the adjustments and paid the price in the Penalty Box and on the scoreboard. Yes, absolutely other issues contributed to this disaster of 2025, but for me, you just can't score from the penalty box. TSN "gotcha" moment? After the game, the Czechia players were singing Team Canada Goal scoring song in their dressing room. Ouch.
