    Nice work. I had one blackbird with 115k miles. Sold it years.ago but found another recently. A 1998 with only 18k miles! I had to put it together but I paid almost nothing. Incredible machine

      It thought the same thing. Cleanest Early 2000's bike I've ever seen in my life. If the owner gets the small rash on the right side painted, it could literally go in a museum.

    My '99 Blackbird didn't get ridden for over 6 years. Premium unleaded in the tank (full) degraded into something akin to sea water, talk about corrosion! Fortunately, the tank cleaned up ok but if it had been left any longer it would have likely perforated. New fuel pump, fuel level sender, fuel lines, pressure regulator and thoroughly cleaned injectors with high flow filter baskets. Still a work in progress but be warned about modern fuels... once it breaks down it creates a big mess!
    I'll store it with a full tank of kerosene with 20% outboard oil, draining it and replacing with fresh non-ethanol fuel for rides.
    I use an efi fuel filter outside of the tank with the internal one removed. Easier servicing and cheaper, too.

    I nearly bought one of these just last week, I saw the ad, thought about it, then gave him a call, he said I've just got off the phone with a guy who wants to buy it on Tuesday if he can get here so he gets first chance 3 fkin times he said: "I can't get there", "oh yes I can", "Ohh no I can't", so I went anyway, it was fkin pristine & the bastard turned up, I was gutted, they weren't a hugely popular bike in the UK I don't think people figured out how awesome they were before the "FireBlade" swept them off their feet but as a distance bike they are even better. I finally picked up a Turbo so I'm 1 step closer to that build, best of luck with this, not that you will need it, you're a hidden talent that deserves many more subscribers.

    Nice film - like the style. Ha, had to do a similar thing on a 2001 model last year that had sat for 8 years. It took me a while to work out why the idle was rough. Found multiple issues in the ignition system but none fixed it. Eventually found that the spark plugs had the wrong spec of cathode (one letter wrong on the part number). Who could guess they'd be so sensitive. BTW what screen is that? Suits the bike well.

    • @andrewcohee1699
      @andrewcohee1699 Год назад +1

      Digital screens stock on the 01 and up. Personally I prefer the analog. So much better at night time when I just want to focus on the road, soft blueish backlights behind the needles. But the new ones are orange backlit and annoying, and in my op.. distracting.

    • @8888swatt
      @8888swatt Год назад +1

      @@andrewcohee1699 hi Andrew, thanks for replying but that will teach me to use vague terminology - I should have said 'windshield' rather than screen.

    • @andrewcohee1699
      @andrewcohee1699 Год назад +1

      @@8888swatt oh that’s just as easy tho. It’s a touring screen. Lots of aftermarket companies make those. Some also just op for the clip on screen so they don’t lose the og look of the bird. Taller windscreens can look a bit goofy. I’d just spend the money on a bell race star helmet, trust me best helmet money can buy. it’ll solve a ton of the buffeting issues, and they’re quiet af despite their intended purpose.

    I've just bought a BB in the UK. I"d love you to give it a once over and get her in tip top condition before i go on a long tour. Unfortunately you're a bit too far away.
    I guess your recommendation would be oil and filter service, plus check the battery and injectors? Was the regulator/rectifier original on your customer's bike?
