@@oanarusuungureanu1309 - I really appreciate hearing various options for preparing these teas. I gather there are different opinions as to the best method for making medicinal herbal teas - "infusions/decoctions". The roots/stems need to be medium simmered for a bit to help extract their nutrients. Then if you notice in the video, after simmering the roots on medium, I turn the heat down to the lowest setting where there is basically no activity in the pot but it is keeping the water a constant warm temperature so as to gently extract nutrients from the leaves and flowers. There are no water bubbles, no boiling, just a nice warm constant temperature. Generally, the temperature of the lowest setting on a stovetop is 195 degrees Fahrenheit (90.5 Celsius). This is under the 200 - 210 degrees Fahrenheit (93.3/98.8 Celsius) generally recommended for brewing/infusing/decocting herb leaves and flowers. So be sure that you have your stovetop set to its lowest setting - and make sure you see no bubbling in the water - before adding your leaves and flowers. And it is only for 15 minutes not the 48-72 hours that is recommended for a more significant extraction of the volatile/essential oils. You may find the information for preparing herb teas provided by the Simple Loose Leaf Tea company interesting. They recommend simmering herb tea on low for 5 -15 minutes for the best enhanced flavor. You can read more here: simplelooseleaf.com/blog/herbal-tea/how-to-brew-herbal-tea However, all of this said, definitely do that with which you feel most comfortable. Also, I looked into what you recommended but I think the gal is basing her information on a study that was done with rats who were given high doses (much higher than recommended human doses) of peppermint oil or just the extract of menthol for 28 days that went on to demonstrate some liver toxicity. But another study where the rats were treated with a recommended does of peppermint oil for their body weight protected their livers and kidneys from induced oxidative stress. You can read more here: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5761127/ There is so much to learn about herbs and their healing properties. As the saying goes...everything in moderation. So glad you're here and thank you again for sharing sharing your info. Love, Mary
I can't even express how happy I am to have found you!! My dream at the ripe age of now 48 lol is to make my own herbal tinctures/salves/etc and go to a traditional home. You are my hero :)
I love how you’ve grown your hair out over the past year of social distancing! ❤️ I also love your sweet energy as I’m learning from you the things I wish I had known years ago about how to care for myself & my family....better late than to never have learned!! 💕💕
I make a tea of chamomile, mullien, tulsi, spearmint and hibiscus flowers to drink as a cool drink in summer and a hot tea in winter. I sometimes add in ginger and turmeric if I feel a little under the weather, it is not often that I do however
Dear sweet Mary also spiced teas, taste delicious. Caraway, star anise, plus cardamom or even, turmeric and cinamon. Love that you are so informative and helpful. God bless you and keep you safe 💕. Thank you for your kindness
Hi Mary. I like an equal amount of rose petals, chamomile and lavender tea. It is very calming. Also add lemon balm when it is fresh. My understanding is that when lemon balm is dried is is not as potent.
Just found your channel, oh my gosh, you are fantastic! You are miles better than anyone I have ever seen on Food Network. Now I get to spend all my extra time catching up on all your wonderful videos!

My paternal grandmother made THE BEST flavored made from scratch hot tea!! I've never had tea that tasted as good as hers! I only saw her assemble all her herbs once and I was so young I couldn't even begin to know what she used. Her recipe died with her. I'm SOOO very sad I shall never enjoy that wondrous drink ever again!! 😥 Maybe your recipe will give me a close resemblance.
❤️❤️ I adore you. I have been taking notes for three years now. I'm growing many herbs here in Michigan where so many are considered annuals. As a result it is difficult to find plants. I really need a large greenhouse built here. 🥰
Thanks for sharing this wonderful information on making herbal tea, Mary. This is another area we hope to do more of. Have a blessed and happy Easter. Rob
Hi Mary from the Philippines!I started to master food fermentation.I heard that probiotics food is doing a good role to boost immunity against Corona virus. Thanks for sharing your ideas❤
Hi Mary! I always enjoy watching your videos, they are so informative and I just love listening to you talk..very calming! May I ask where you got the shirt in today's video? It is so cute for spring!
Thank you SO much for all the kind words!! So happy you are enjoying the videos!! I bought the shirt from an online company called Women Within. If you search "Perfect Pintuck Tunic", the style should come up but not sure about the pattern since I bought it a few seasons ago. Love, Mary
I don’t know exactly where this question fits in. I have been looking for thoughts and ideas about canning ginger and/or ginger juice (water bath). What are your thoughts? Sometimes freezer and refrigerator space at our house is at a premium so I was thinking about canning ginger/juice/tea…..Thank you.
God bless you. Is it possible for using the following for extracting herbals which used for hair growth?by a 60% glycerin and 30% distilled water and 10% propylene glycol ? Herbals such as Horse tail grass and Ecipta prostrate and Equisetum arvense and Ginseng roots ? Please advise and thanking in advance
Hi Mary, I am wondering if you would be able to direct me to information which lets you know what herbs should not be infused together for medicinal teas? I so enjoy your videos and have learned so much on herbs. Thank you for posting this information on how to make medicinal teas, it is so useful! I love making different teas for my family.
Hello Mary 💛 Thank you kindly for your tutorial on medicinal herb tea. I have camomile, lemon balm, and lavender steeping as I type. I appreciate your inspiration and instruction. God bless.
My understanding has always been that it is the alcohol that gives it the shelf life. Higher proof means longer life. Just dilute it before you take it. Or hold a spoonful of honey in mouth before you take tincture.
Love this lady but if I had to go through all this for a cup of herbal tea, I dont know if I would be drinking as much of it as I do now. LOL I heat water, throw the herbs in the pot and let it steep, then pour it into a jar.
What book(s) would you recommend for medical & dental emergency/first aid? Do you have a video on how to control pests/rodents should a prolonged situation disrupt professional pest control services? I live in the south where roaches are the size of ponies. Mosquitoes are a problem, of course, as are flies on occasion.
Hi Mary, I'm really enjoying ALL of your videos. I'm really interested in making some of the medicinal herbal teas. My question is, do you think these teas could be pressure canned to preserve them for a later use? I know some herbs don't taste very good when added to food that's pressure canned, but it would be nice to have these various medicinal herbal teas on hand at a moments notice. What are your thoughts?
Hi Mary where can I purchase dry herbs is German chamomile ,lemon balm, peppermint ,e-learning etc. Please help I would like to purchase from a can source I can trust😊
Oh Savah! Thank you so much for the kind words! The kettle is a Cuisinart electric kettle that my husband bought for me years ago. So many people have asked me about it and I tried to find it online but I think it has been discontinued. :-( So sorry. Love, Mary
🤗 It’s an electric tea kettle made by Cuisinart. I’ve had it for years. I tried to find it again online but looks like it’s been discontinued! Ugh!! 😱 I’ll keep looking and you do too. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
Thanks for sharing. Lee called a few times as it looked Daniel's angelsense tracker's map showed Daniel was running in the woods although he was at home (we got it since lately he's been wandering off during our walks). Sometimes the GPS confused if we're in the car or it's in Daniel's clothing. It was tucked behind his shirt. Plan to order their belt this month and maybe their waterproof case next month as I also have to pay their monthly service fee. Called Dad to give me a ride to Staples tomorrow so I can pick up more toner for my laser jet printer to print out Daniel's school work. It's too far away for me to walk to. We had a few days of cool high temps and below freezing overnight temps. Things are though going to warm back to our usual seventies for the high and fifties for the low in a few days. Our pollen levels have been medium to high since two weeks before Spring started.
@@MarysNest covering with a flat lid (not a screw lid that is screwed on helps hold in the volatile oils that contain healing properties. I know this is an older video, but I still enjoyed it very much.
Hi Mary, im wondering if you know that you shouldnt infuse this way, that you shouldnt infuse herbs that are high in volitile oils, like peppermint, lavender, etc, the ones that have a strong scent, that it can damage the liver because its like an essential oil then. Some call these nourishing herbal infusions, and they are so good to get all the soluable properties. Just wondered if you knew that. I love your channel! Theres a channel called "she is of the woods", and she is an herbalist who explains these things. Take care.

I live in the south where roaches are the size of ponies. Mosquitoes are a problem, of course, as are flies on occasion.
love your tea kettle
Hi Mary, I'm really enjoying ALL of your videos. I'm really interested in making some of the medicinal herbal teas. My question is, do you think these teas could be pressure canned to preserve them for a later use? I know some herbs don't taste very good when added to food that's pressure canned, but it would be nice to have these various medicinal herbal teas on hand at a moments notice. What are your thoughts?
I would like to know this as well. Ty Mary.
Have you ever heard of wisdom of the ancients symfre tea I can't find it anywhere and was wondering how to make it

Mary...this is off topic, but where did you find that beautiful kettle? And, I love your videos!
Oh Savah! Thank you so much for the kind words! The kettle is a Cuisinart electric kettle that my husband bought for me years ago. So many people have asked me about it and I tried to find it online but I think it has been discontinued. :-( So sorry. Love, Mary
@@MarysNest: You have a wonderful husband with good taste!
Hi Mary , I am Ayanda in SA , Port Edward just found your wonderful herb lesions , can I include Burdock Root in the sleep tea , and if so how .
Mary Dear, what brand is that fantastic water kettle you are using? I have tea kettle envy!
🤗 It’s an electric tea kettle made by Cuisinart. I’ve had it for years. I tried to find it again online but looks like it’s been discontinued! Ugh!! 😱 I’ll keep looking and you do too. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
@@MarysNest I will thank you for pointing me in the right direction
Hello Mary! This is terrific! Do you happen to also have a recipe for split pea with ham soup? Thank you!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I don’t yet but that’s a great idea! Thanks for the inspiration! Love, Mary ❤️🤗❤️
@@MarysNest , It's one of my favorite soups, but I'm sure your recipe will be healthier and tastier than a canned soup brand. I look forward to it.
Happy Easter to you and your family
Hi Lora!! And to you too! ❤️🙏🏻❤️
Is there a certain ratio to mixing or can you mix equal parts of any herb together
How do you crush the dried herbs?
Is it true that you can use the Holly Hock plant instead of the marshmallow plant
Oh Jean! Thank goodness Daniel was safe! Thank you for keeping me posted. Love, Mary
Tks ❤❤
Cont. Can it then be thawed and heated ?
I think that might work. 🤗
Mary, in the "herbal world" we call your long steeped tea, an infusion. Cheers!
Thank you so much for sharing that! Yes, and infusion! I like that!! Love, Mary

Could you use coffee filters to cover your jar or is a paper towel better ?
Hi Tammy, Definitely. Love, Mary
Could you pour the tea in iceblock trays and freeze it for use later? 😁
I think that might work. 🤗
Can you make medicinal without the tea
Hi Mary, im wondering if you know that you shouldnt infuse this way, that you shouldnt infuse herbs that are high in volitile oils, like peppermint, lavender, etc, the ones that have a strong scent, that it can damage the liver because its like an essential oil then. Some call these nourishing herbal infusions, and they are so good to get all the soluable properties. Just wondered if you knew that. I love your channel! Theres a channel called "she is of the woods", and she is an herbalist who explains these things. Take care.
Hi Connie, Thank you for the kind words...and...Thank you so much for sharing your input. I really appreciate knowing various options for preparing these teas. I gather there are different opinions as to the method for making medicinal herbal teas - "infusions/decoctions". Yes, the roots/stems need to be simmered for a bit to help extract their nutrients. Then if you notice in the video, after simmering the roots, I turn the heat down to the lowest setting where there is basically no activity in the pot but it is keeping the water a constant warm temperature so as to extract the nutrients from the leaves and flowers There are no water bubbles, no boiling, just a nice warm constant temperature. And it is only for 15 minutes not the 48-72 hours that is recommended for a more significant extraction of the volatile/essential oils. However, that said, definitely do that which you feel most comfortable with. So glad you're here and thank you again for sharing this info. Love, Mary
@@MarysNest Thanks Mary for taking that well, I meant well. Take care.
@@ConnietheVirgo - Oh Connie!! Of course!! I am on a journey and always so interested in learning new things! I looked into what you recommended but I think the gal is basing her information on a study that was done with rats who were given high doses (much higher than recommended human doses) of peppermint oil or just the extract of menthol for 28 days that went on to demonstrate some liver toxicity. Thank you again for being here and sharing your info. Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️
