I got sick of the dealerships around us asking 20K over 115K MSRP. I went to Jeep and test drove the 2023 GW III with hesitation on 510hp engine. I instantly decided that this was a good fit for our needs. I found the 2023 GW III I wanted in another state and called them up and asked for a cash price out the door. To my surprise they said MSRP and also noted that they were including a dealer discount which brought the price under MSRP. I only have 1K on the clock now, but am thankful that I was treated poorly by that other brand! I have had no negative experiences with the GW at this time.
I made the mistake of buying a 2012 JK, and have not been happy with the electronics on a base model. The other issue is the dealership that I bought it at, and their service department. Under warranty I drove to a different Mom & Pop dealership, that has since been bought out by a large dealer network. Since then I bought a 1999 XJ from NC, at my son's house. I am really glad I bought XJ. My son has a TDI swap CJ & XJ in NC. Ijust don't take the XJ out in salt season up here in PA.

My wife and I are going back and forth with the Wagoneer and Defender 130. I've watched just about every video out there on both and spent way too much time reading through the forums online. The Jeep is bigger and offers a decent amount more cargo space which is important to us, not so concerned about passenger space. I like the look of the Defender overall, but the Jeep's interior looks more comfortable and upscale less off-roady than the Defender. Both are very thirsty though and fuel prices don't look like they're dropping significantly anytime soon. Neither brand have a reputation for stellar reliability and that's unfortunately a big concern for us. Hopefully Jeep keeps improving their quality control, there's a lot of folks who regret buying the first year or two of the Wagoener/Grand Wagoneer judging by online forums. Some have little to no issues but plenty of buyers have had a frustrating experience especially given the price point of these vehicles. For now, we'll wait until we can test drive both and keep an eye on the build quality and reliability. Nice to hear from an owner who has had a positive experience with their Wagoneer, hope it continues!
I owned an 1985 Wagoneer (and loved it) and when I first saw the new model I was soooo disappointed that Jeep went to a boat-sized bus-like monstrosity. Now, I think it’s a great looking vehicle.
I am a first time Jeep owner (JT) and have owned it for four years. I’m a Toyota and Lexus guy, but loved the thought of owning a JT. Like this gentleman has expressed, there’s two sides to owning a Jeep product. There’s the driving, then there’s the owning. It is not reliable, lets get that out of the way. I have issues with it that I’ve never had through total ownership of other cars. The Wagoneer clicks all the boxes, but reliability and overall quality is just not there for the amount these cars costs. The JT is our fun car and our 4Runner is the family trustworthy car.
My series 2 serves the purpose as far as size but electronically it's frustrating. The Hatch goes up and I have to manually put it down as it just beeps. Im now driving without the ability to use the volume on the steering wheel but all other buttons seem to work fine. I have never been able to recommend this vehicle to anyone who's asked unfortunately. I keep it clean and people are certainly impressed by it but again it's just a bit off electronically. I drive Chevy/ GMC SUV's for my occupation and its disheartening sometimes to get back into this vehicle not knowing what issues I'm going to face today.
My first car was a 1996 Grand Cherokee. Had all types of electrical gremlins. I have three kids now and would love to consider the wagoneer or even the Grand Cherokee L but no way I can take a chance on one with all the issues. That’s for your honest review in line with what I’ve read on line
We have a 2021 Cadillac Escalade ESV. 21000 miles. Going on second battery. Like he said on the Wagoneer when these batteries go out of here is no grind start warning. And you can’t jump start. Our fuel module went out on the Hwy and everything shut down. Even had to take key pod apart to manually unlock doors. A nightmare. After that my wife said trade it!!!! She is looking at a grand wagoneer. Smh!!!! I think I’ll steer her to a Navigator.
@@DirtRoadTherapy These are Luxury Full size SUVs with so many bells & whistles that are so sophisticated to work on those Technicians at the dealerships have probably not been trained. So if there is a glitch to the system it might be a long time if they sort it out.
Sad to see so many here happy to get 10k miles with no issues ans bragging about it. I look back at my parents 05 suburban that went over 160k miles towing a trailer nearly every day for their construction business with just basic maintenance. At 160k they had to replace transmission, alternator and, water pump. Even back they expected to to get 70k miles with 0 issues and they sure did.
Ours had had several electrical/electronic issues. Currently mine is at the dealer for an estimated 6 weeks waiting on a new power steering module. Having to fight to get a loaner as promised by wagoneer client services. If I could go back in time I would not buy it and will probably trade it before the warranty is up (I usually keep vehicles a long time) because I'm worried about continued issues past warranty.
Yep year 1 sucks, and it's worse now because of all the tech involved with new vehicles. I bought a Grand Cherokee in the 3rd year of the cycle. I really wanted a CX-90 but didn't buy it because of it being year one. Glad to hear you have no mechanical issues so far. Good luck the rest of the way.
The GM offerings have some of these same gremlins. As an AT4 owner I can tell you the infotainment system will do odd things, but the those odd things occur on startup only. I've never had something go out while driving. Sometimes the GPS won't work or sometimes the radio won't work, but I will say those issues occur rarely (once a month or so). The issues seem to be software related which is good because GM has patched some of the issues. Also don't forget those GM offerings have had lifter issues for YEARS. Honestly I'd rather have issues with my infotainment system than my drivetrain.
I traded my 22 z71 suburban for the 22 Wagoneer series III. I loved the vehicle it has more features and more leg room for my family of 7. But the constant problems with the infotainment and horrible service at several dealerships in GA I’m ready to look at other options.
Also, goes to safety concerns...my wife and I just missed being hit by a wrong way driver on the freeway. We are going for larger vehicles to have a better chance against those crazy drivers. The wrong way driver was a nissan z car very low...my RAM 1500 we went off road at 65MPH into the shoulder and back with no damage and not being hit.
Our Honda dealer is selling a 2022 GWIII for $49k with 57k miles. The 2024 GWIII is going for $110-$125 in my area. I have never seen a vehicle depreciate that rapid. I will stick with Denali.
Completely concur. Our 2022 Series III is being bought back by FCA because of all the electrical gremlins. We had the same breakdown and had to be towed to dealership. Amazing looking vehicle but not quite the luxury experience/realibilith you’d expect for a family vehicle. Ditto for the Wagoneer experience. Our constantly going back to dealership but at times no Wagoneer loaners available…one time they tried to give us a Compass loaner? We like it enough that we are going to try one more time by ordering a new one once the buy back is complete…but will look for a Series II as they run a different version of the software…I know because of all the loaners we’ve driven…but fact we are willing to give it another try says something?
I am actually on the market of large SUV. First baby’s born, we want a 2nd close and maybe a 3rd later. we also have a 100 pounds bernese mountain dog that is already “big” in my truck. I actually drive a 2022 ram 1500 with a 6.4 foot bed and a closed trunk would to it. I know the wagoneer L will come out later this year and I might want to look at it. Thanks for the review. If it can reassure you on stellantis product, I had a 2019 ram before. It has all sorts of electronics bugs. Went to the dealer a couple of time with it. It’s not the first time that I see first line buyers having troubles with stellantis products. But they usually manage to fix what causes the problems. That said, With my 2022, there aint no issue at all. Again, thanks for the review and the warnings!
@@DirtRoadTherapy hugely important to have real world experience to learn from beyond the day that Motor journalist typically get. Motor Trend can’t have every vehicle in their long term fleet so this is hugely beneficial. Your approach and tact is applauded as you were doing your best to choose your words wisely.
I do think these might be good buys in 2024... our 2022 WS3 was a nightmare and all I can legally say is that it is no longer in our possession. On the positive what I can and WILL say is that this was absolutely the best vehicle I have ever owned and we genuinely wish it worked out. I will be back for one again - but absolutely waiting for the 2024 model year - if not 2025.
I can say that we are legally working through our options to no longer own our Wagoneer as well. It is the absolute nicest vehicle I have ever driven, but one of the worst vehicles I've ever owned. If that makes sense.
@@breyerconstruct makes exact sense. My dealer hasn’t called me still about 2024 window which tells me all I need to know. He’s not interested in headaches and clearly there are still some out there.
Bought a WS3 with the smaller hemi and the fuel mileage blows. Even on the highway as long as I baby it it can get around 18-22, normally on the low end. I did put more aggressive tires on it (not mt’s, more like rt’s) but the avg fuel evonomy right now is like 13.2. I wish we could have bought a wagoneer with the 6.4 as I have seen that it gets better mileage with the bigger engine (strange I know).
@@DirtRoadTherapy the stocks are close to 33, the new ones are 33s, prolly a little heavier, but tbh, the mileage sucked when we bought it. @@DirtRoadTherapy my 2020 ram with the regular 5.7 hemi without start stop gets wayyyy better fuel mileage. I ONLY drive it in town and it averages close to 17 mpg.
Here’s what Matt said: “Wasn't available when I pre-ordered. Don't think the L was even confirmed as something that'd actually come to market until after we took delivery”
Correct. If we order another one, we would probably do the L just for the added storage space at the very back and the improved legroom on the third row
I asked Matt, he said they were part of the package. It was one of the early release package... Series 3 Off Road. He didn't actually select them. Hope that helps
Dealers support is everything. Understanding that a Dealer for you might not be a Dealer for me. Understanding too that everything made by man, can and undoubtedly will fail in time. Try dealing with issues on a $750000.00 dollar farm tractor. Were warranty is a savior.
I love my 2021 gladiator Rubicon ecodiesel, another modern jeep product, and I have gripes for sure how incomplete the electrical stuff feels. I too expect a bit more maturity, especially for the obscene price I paid. I'm disappointed but not too surprised that the GW has similar gripes to what I've experienced.
That sucks, I know a few people with the Ecodiesel and they're overall happy, but have had some issues. Unfortunately I feel the diesel Jeeps will have a short production run. I base that on both history of diesel Jeep models, as well as the fact that the markets are shifting away from diesel power in general.
I've got a 22 Ram 3500 Mega Diesel Limited...and it's flawless. At the same price point, it's amazing how much better the interior storage options, and electrical/computer items are on the Ram. I expected them to be virtually identical...and it's like 2 different companies built them.

I’m late to this video but man oh man you’d be making a huge mistake going to gm instead of the Jeep. Trust me they’re absolute junk. I’d take a glitchy radio anyway over failed injectors and lifters.
Cool Wagoneer but the big low no pop-up window, Chevy had that back in the day and Jeep had to put it on the XJ Cherokee and Wagoneer which started the four-door fade, today because of it no fantastic ZR2 Chevy two doors, of course, Japanese crossover plays a significant role too, Wagoneer could also use the wood trim outside. Jeep today with 4 door mania going at Chevy three-row SUVs with Wagoneer and others and making this off a Ram frame. Good vehicle.
I have a 2023 Series 3. Nothing but regret. The electronics are glitchy, the new uconnect is slow as a turtle. This is nothing but regret. Stellantis can rot in hell for this garbage. I am sure that even a navigator would be more reliable, and that’s a low bar. The app for a 100k machine is absolute garbage, garbage, garbage. My simple so frills 2022 Ram Warlock is more reliable than this thing. The screen blacks out, the audio disappears, the heads up display is missing all features, the dealership has no clue what the flying f..k that car is actually supposed to do because the manufacturer messaging is absolutely deplorable. The AC in the seats is barely noticeable. We traded a 2022 Telluride Night Sky y loaded for something that was almost twice as much with half the options, and of that half, half of those barely work. The Kia app was a work of art compared to the Wagoneer app. Shame is not on the plate for Jeep or a Stellantis. I feel like we got burned. We will likely trade it in at a loss. At this point, a car from the flinstones would likely be more consistently reliable. Stellantis…YOU SUCK! Buyer beware!
Don’t trade for a 2021 Escalade! The fuel module goes out and you are stuck. Ours went out at 21000 miles. We are on second battery. When they go out you can’t jump start these cars. It’s time to tow. Just a heads up. We were stranded 5 hours in the middle of nowhere with that fuel module in a heat wave!
How could you do a review and not know the mileage you got on the ‘featured trip’? Also, it’s an American car, you should expect the fit and finish to be shady.
Sorry we missed the mark on that. As this was an interview style just following up on the owner’s experience, I overlooked having that metric nailed down. Also, still plenty of American made cars that have good fit and finish, especially in the >$70k price range
Don't write it off, but definitely drive it- and the competition. It sounds like they're getting the kinks worked out- not ideal for those who bought early (like us), but just chatting with our local dealer, they're getting fewer and fewer issues/complaints. (Ours is going back in for the loose headliner again, and the funky radio again. Hence the opportunity to chat up the dealer. LOL)
Great review, and helpful. Incidentally, that title should say "A League of Its Own". Not 'Leage', and there is NO apostrophe in the possessive pronoun its.
Thanks for watching and for giving your insight! I hope your family is able to settle on a vehicle that is the right choice for you very soon.
Years ago if one purchased a near $100k vehicle, having glitch issues was unheard of.
Eh, not really. Anything Mercedes always had 😈…
@@matopetrusic7838 Or Land Rover ! 🤔
What a headache. Buying many new cars is such a gamble these days I feel
Thanks for the honest input, sorry to hear that!
I wondered what ppl were driving while the dealership works out the issues!
Thanks for sharing Dominic, that’s really unfortunate 😢
@@thegreatone11 I had positive equity on my suburban and my WS3 was 82k. My payments are only $700.
I can say mine has done very well except the fuel pump died last month I’ve got 93000 miles almost 100k and lots of towing
Excellent!
Brilliantly done!
Thanks
@@DirtRoadTherapy hugely important to have real world experience to learn from beyond the day that Motor journalist typically get. Motor Trend can’t have every vehicle in their long term fleet so this is hugely beneficial. Your approach and tact is applauded as you were doing your best to choose your words wisely.
I’m loving my Wagoneer.
Only complaint is my navigation screen is always black and doesn’t work. But I use google maps with Apple CarPlay anyway.
Glad you love it! Is the Navi screen a subscription thing or a fault?
@@DirtRoadTherapy I believe a fault. Haven’t taken it in to get it looked at. I’ll bring it to their attention at my first oil change.
Makes sense to me and I am hoping everything works out for you guys!
I think 18-22 is impressive. 13 average is pretty terrible though. Did you up size the tires or just go a little more aggressive?
@@DirtRoadTherapy the stocks are close to 33, the new ones are 33s, prolly a little heavier, but tbh, the mileage sucked when we bought it. We dont do a whole lot of highway so the general average is a little city biased, but when we take it on trips, the highway mileage is still a little dissapointing.
@@DirtRoadTherapy my 2020 ram with the regular 5.7 hemi without start stop gets wayyyy better fuel mileage. I ONLY drive it in town and it averages close to 17 mpg.
If anything does happen there will be a recall and you will be eligible for it since you are the first year owner
Thanks for the video. How come you didn’t get the L version ?
Here’s what Matt said: “Wasn't available when I pre-ordered. Don't think the L was even confirmed as something that'd actually come to market until after we took delivery”
Correct.
If we order another one, we would probably do the L just for the added storage space at the very back and the improved legroom on the third row
Question, how did you get the sun shades? I am not seeing that as an add-on, but would really like that for my kiddos in the back!
I asked Matt, he said they were part of the package. It was one of the early release package... Series 3 Off Road.
He didn't actually select them. Hope that helps
It's in the convenience package on any series level
Dealers support is everything. Understanding that a Dealer for you might not be a Dealer for me. Understanding too that everything made by man, can and undoubtedly will fail in time. Try dealing with issues on a $750000.00 dollar farm tractor. Were warranty is a savior.
Best review!
Wow, thanks!
Italian/French made electronics?
@@breyerconstruct I honestly think that its competition. Jeep sells no matter what, meanwhile ram shares the market with true competition. I'd guess ram has a higher design priority over jeep in this space.

It checks all the boxes.....but the radio, or motor may shut down, when we had our big breakdown in Tennessee.....Wagoneer services didn't get back for a week, but when they did they were polite. Overall....it's worth test driving. Fit and finish problems, but the build quality is good? With all due respect at over 100k, you just described a shitbox.
I’m late to this video but man oh man you’d be making a huge mistake going to gm instead of the Jeep. Trust me they’re absolute junk. I’d take a glitchy radio anyway over failed injectors and lifters.

Long story short the electronics suck on this vehicle!!!
17-22 mpg??? I doubt it can reach 22 mpg
He has seen 22 MPG with it 🤷🏽♂️
Id trade my JL for one of these in a heart beat
Why is that?
@@DirtRoadTherapy 4x4, v8, and lots of room. Would be nice. Only time until someone does something crazy with one of these
Cool Wagoneer but the big low no pop-up window, Chevy had that back in the day and Jeep had to put it on the XJ Cherokee and Wagoneer which started the four-door fade, today because of it no fantastic ZR2 Chevy two doors, of course, Japanese crossover plays a significant role too, Wagoneer could also use the wood trim outside. Jeep today with 4 door mania going at Chevy three-row SUVs with Wagoneer and others
and making this off a Ram frame. Good vehicle.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
So hard to say Jeeps have crap reliability.
OK - scratch this vehicle off the list !!
Personally I’d give it another year for sure. The issues he’s having aren’t unheard of for first model year stuff, but it’s frustrating all the same
Don't write it off, but definitely drive it- and the competition.
LOL)
Just avoid the first model year.
So a travel review of a vehicle but not sure of the gas mileage wtf
That truth I have also 2023 Jeep Wagnoeer I go to delar 4 time but they can fixd please don't buy please find other car
Great review, and helpful. Incidentally, that title should say "A League of Its Own". Not 'Leage', and there is NO apostrophe in the possessive pronoun its. That's for the contraction (like, it's a great vehicle). The stupider we get in America, the more we like to complain when people correct simpe stuff. That's a mark not of ignorance, but of stupidity (ignorance that doesn't want to be corrected).
I'm happy you found the review helpful!
You are not the first to point out the typographical error in that title. Unfortunately I noticed them after the video went live, so there is nothing I can do now to edit. I did not seek an undergraduate degree in English, but come from a family of writers. Naturally, I find myself mentally correcting typos (such as the one in your comment) and understand your position on the subject. We truly are handicapped with technology like Autocorrect and surrounded by poor English and grammar from social media perpetually cheapening communication. I'm not sure if you meant to be condescending with the last bit. As a producer and editor, I can't help but encourage you to find better words to communicate that sentiment. Regardless, I'm going to assume you meant the best. Thanks for your comment.
Eliminate most of the electronics, and I'm in.
Hah yeah. I think I’m doomed to own old vehicles for life 😞
Never buy the first production year of any vehicle.
I got one. And there is no excuse for this none sense! Jeep has been around for 70+ years. They have been bragging about their Infotainment for a decade now. And they certainly aren’t new to building vehicles! So #jeep #noexcuse
