what a time ! i was 19 in '72 and EVERBODY had machine head. i had the little suitcase full of 8 track tapes in the back seat of my '69 plymouth satellite and cruisin' was one of the best things to do. saturday nite out on the back roads with music blasting and joints burning. fun days.
… Rock music is explained like this: There is a lead guitar, an organ, a bass, a singer, a drummer... and there is DEEP PURPLE!! … There is nothing more to say!! 🎸🎹🥁🎤 Thank You
Deep purple was one of the unholy trinity from Britien. Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath was the other. Purple was the pioneer of heavy rock and Metal. They are still making records today.
Deep Purple is a great band, check out their catalog. Then check out one of their off-chutes bands called Rainbow. The guitarist (Ritchie Blackmore) started this band bringing Ronnie James Dio into the band for his vocals. "Stargazer" is a must listen song from Rainbow.
It was released 1972. Written 1971 first on a tourbus "by accident", they played a rough version the same night. The album Machine Head celebrates 52 years with a new remix by Frank Zappas son Dweezil. And they are releasing a new album in July. Not bad for a group containg two 79 years old dudes😊. Songs, there are so many. But a few choices: Child In Time live 70 Space Truckin' Smoke On The Water ( almost every person first thing they learn on guitar ) Speed King Lazy Fireball Rat Bat Blue Smooth Dancer Burn Perfect Strangers Knocking On Your Back And this lineup called Mark II was active 1969-73, 84-89, 92-93. At the moment Mark IX i touring with Gillan, Glover and Paice from Mark II. Blackmore formed another famous band Rainbow 1975
Child in time, Smoke on the water, Lazy, Black night, strange kind of woman, perfect strangers, when a blind man cries. Recommend live versions :) enjoy!
I loved watching you hear your first solo by Ritchie Blackmore!! Goning down on you knees is an appropirate reaction. He truely is a rock god. DP is the greatest band ever. New album coming this summer!!
Everyone over 40 has a story about this song, some tragic, some funny, all about driving fast while listening to this. Believe me I have several. When this came out I was stationed in Japan after finishing a tour in Viet Nam. I didn't have a highway star yet but I did have 72 Kawasaki 750 3 cylinder motorcycle at the time. The fastest production bike in the world at the time. 8 or 10 of us GIs rode our bikes from Tokyo to Shimoda Japan on a 3day weekend. Everyone else had Honda or Kawasaki 4s. It's about 120 miles on way on a twisty, 2 lane highway. A fabulous ride but very busy. To beat this we started out at 11 pm on Thursday because we had Friday off. We took less than an hour and a half to get there. That's 90 per average if your mathematically challenged. On the wayI discovered on of the major problems my bike had, when going over a 100 on it there was a major vibration in the handlebars, it would put your arms to sleep. You had to slow down or stop to get rid of it. That made me last one there even though I had the fastest bike, no good for my rep. My buddies came down Friday in my van. We had a great time sleeping on the beach all weekend with all Japanese tourist looking at us like we were nuts. We were, we'd survived Viet Nam, we were immortal, nothing could kill us. Oh how wrong we were!. When we started back to Tokyo on Sunday I decided to haul my bike back in my van. We got on the highway, my buddy said let's jam and put Machine Head in my 8track. We cruised until about the time this song came and then came to a dead stop because of traffic. It took us over 6 hours to get to Tokyo. That's why I never played it in my car again until I got back to the states in 73. And you think traffic jams are bad here .

Try Lazy from the same album. Jon Lord gives a clinic on the keys. Actually, you can't go wrong with any song from the Machine Head album.
