Welcome to "my" country. I was born in a small town 30km north of Christchurch. When I was 19, I moved to Twizel to work on the Upper Waitaki Power Project, and later, worked on the Clyde Dam near Cromwell. I also lived and worked in Marlborough at the top of the South Island for 25 years. Over the years I have owned a number of 4WD's, including two Series IIA's, a Series III and a 1980 Range Rover 2 door. The Antarctic Centre is an awesome place and should not be missed. Re Gwen's fascination with Lord of the Rings. A number of the planes at Warbirds are owned by Peter Jackson and based in Blenheim, where they also have a Warbirds Airshow. When I am in Auckland, I park up at Ardmore Airfield, where there is a Warbirds museum, and where they build fully operational Mosquito fighters, which are then sold all over the world. Also at Ardmore is a very rare 2 seater Spitfire which you can go for a flight in, in return for a fairly large payment. I am now retired and live/travel full time in my caravan. Every school holidays I go to Auckland and look after my granddaughter so that my daughter and son-in-law can continue working.
Another awesome Ep to a fantastic country guys, I did a trip over in 1986 I loved it but it was cold for this QLDer. The rabbit needed the holy hand grenade, love the Suski.
Fab video Andrew. I'm m a North Islander currently in CHC working. I always drive down - the perfect excuse for taking a fews days extra to explore off road, this beautiful country. Picton to CHC via Molesworth Station and Jollies Pass Road was yesterdays adventure. Now work for the week 😅
Love NZ. We traveled the South Island 7 years ago. It was Sep. We were to camp in Millford Sound, though, while on the cruise, the captain told us they were closing the road in due to snowfall, and we could be stuck there for days. We got out in time to continue our holiday.
What a great video (not surprising). Great combination of incredible vistas, good quality MP humour and some aviation thrown in for good measure. Also great to see footage of your dad. Look forward to a Jimny review (even tho they are not available here in Canada). I was hoping, however, for a 4runner review since that is the only real 4x4 Toyota allows us to have in Canada.
I am changing channel formats. Travel videos will go here. Tech stuff, reviews and builds on 4xO. This is a long-form version of content released in episodes on 4xO.
I really enjoyed this. Thank you and keep up the good work and I am grateful you are able to have fun in this.
Funny, stunning, professional a great mix, Gwen does bring the best out of you, hope to see more of you both together....
Fantastic cinematography! And I love your banter. 😂
Outstanding photography Andrew! As a kiwi who lives in Wanaka, but spends a lot of time exploring WA, I love your work!

New Zealand is the most beautiful place. Every time I visit I feel like I've come back to my much loved home, even though I've never lived there.

Yes I know the feeling, I have had the privilege of driving the Molesworth about 100 times. Never gets boring.
"Look a duck" had me in stitches. I own the Monty Python group at work and our icon is the white rabbit. (A duck floats, burn her)

@@overlandworkshopof course. Forgot all about that.
Too bad they aren’t available in Canada.
Any chance we could convince you of a 4runner review? 🙂
44:29 I really hope you pick up the five door version for the review. I use it as my daily run-around in India.
Probably due to airport security issues.
Is the yachtie the bloke whose family were rescued by the French between NZ and New Caledonia?
yes.
@@overlandworkshop Plucky family.
Do I remember this from a previous video?

You know that feeling when you excitedly start reading a new book, and suddenly realise you've read it before? Meh. 😐😐😐
Some of the aircrafts sounds like having a cold too. Or more a diarrhoea….an advanced one.
