Grease helped us grow our hair when we were kids, we had pony tails all down our backs! Idk why people stray away from it these days... but I'm going back to it!
Yeah, my Grandmother used Blue Magic *and various other types of grease (Dax anyone?) in my hair as well . .. unfortunately . . . long ponytails, thick or otherwise, was NOT my testimony then, nor now. Le sigh 😔 Might go back to it as an economical moisture retention product, but not holding my breath about added growth potential. Grammar Edit: *and
I think the mistake many made with hair grease is that they used it as a moisturizer instead of a sealant! That's why so many would get varying results with it
Absolutely and it's definitely a sealant vs a moisturizer but most of us (including me & my mama) didn't know then but when you know better, you do better. I think I'm headed to the beauty supply store for some of that stanky Blue Magic!
I just started using grease again since I’m not straightening it and it’s nice and moisturized and shiny. I don’t care what the natural hair community says, I’m back on grease. Also it defines braid and twist outs without gel (gel would help reduce frizz tho) 👍🏽
Natural hair community wants you to buy their curly poos, cremes and whipps . All of which dry out in the middle of the day. They got duped by "gurus" who had products to sell so they said grease was bad with no backup. For certain hairstyles it may be heavier than you like but black hair, in it's unstraightened state needs the moisture & weight. They came up with clogged pores & no hair growth but that's all most kids get & their hair is longer & healthier than most who are against it. Or older ladies who still only use it with long strong hair. I'm 47, natural ALL of my life & blue magic has always been in my house. It's all my daughter uses as well (with eco styler). We have original blue, green & the white (coconut oil) use for different times. Original for every day use. Green at night if we plan on using heat the next day. We use it at night, tie up our hair & let it just soak in. Use the curlers the next day with nothing else the results are SHOCKING and use the white coconut oil one for wash & goes because it's the thickest
I hear you on that! My best twist out to date was with some ultra sheen. I stopped using it tho because even tho it was defined, my hair was so sticky it could not touch it with out cringing. Also, have low porosity hair and I was afraid it would dry my hair out. I may try it again without the gel.
Listen. I threw away all of the “natural hair” products I had, that never really worked, and now I keep it simple. I use regular head and shoulders shampoo and conditioner, a deep conditioner, if I feel like it (I usually don’t lol), and finish with Vaseline and hot water. My curls have never popped so much. It’s been the best move I’ve made, since being natural.
i’m cutting my hair in august (super excited) and I watch these natural hair youtubers that use SO MUCH PRODUCTS. Like they really make the process so much more complicated than it has to be and they use the most expensive products. Don’t put this in your hair pre poo this, can’t use this, like the list goes on. Got me thinking I need to buy a million products. I would think less would be better for your hair (correct me if i’m wrong). I’m gonna try and keep it at a conditioner and shampoo, deep conditioner, gel, and defining curl activator (i don’t have time to be finger coiling my hair lol). I might consider getting an castor oil for growth and a leave in but i don’t know if i really need those tbh.
i threw away all my natural hair product 4 months ago as well and started using blue magic grease along with rice water conditioner. my hair is FINALLY growing after 6 yrs of being natural.
Blue magic was everything as a child. Always had shiny braids! What's the real reason people say petroleum is bad for your hair? Everyone use to use this back in the day! Your hair came out super cute! Nice job!
Chile, these folks just come up with stuff! The longest my hair has even been was when my momma was taking care of it and what did she use? Sulfur 8 and Blue Magic! 😂😂😂
It’s cuz of how it coats the hair and takes a harsher shampoo that’ll dry out your hair to remove it. If you don’t totally remove it it can prevent more moisture from getting into your hair after you wash it. But it’s really just a preference thing. If you don’t mind using stronger shampoos it’s no big deal. I used to be a strict curly girl method girl but after a few years I’ve chilled out. Lol. Whatever works for your hair is what you should use.
Because people make things up. New naturals like poo, creams & lotions & those products never hold moisture all day. So how do u get a generation that only had perms to use your new bandwagon product? Say the old ones are all bad. Meanwhile the kids whose moms combed their hair DAILY, not weekly but daily, used blue magic & their daughters ponytails were down their backs. Permed hair didn't use it the same way, they used a lighter grease like the stuff in the little triangle looking bottle/pot. It was yellow (ultra something) or the isoplus line (love them too). They also went to hair lotions. Fast forward and being natural, still using the lotions & creams & wonders why hair is too dry & brittle. The "it's harder to wash out" story is a lie too. Like any oil it breaks down pretty easily with any shampoo. Johnson's baby shampoo even washes that out. But they came for the shampoos too smh. Use a shampoo that lathers & rinses well then CONDITION & put moisture back into your hair. Finish off with a grease. Honestly if you have a day or start late enough in the day wash, condition & use blue magic on wet hair. Put your hair in ponytails.( Use ouchless rubber bands if you're an anti rubber band person ...way too many rules) But anyway put your hair in about 10 or more ponytails b4 it dries. Plait or twist (plaits work best but twists will do)like you would do a child's hair. Let it dry like that over night. Your hair will be soooooooo soft & moisturized. It will also be stretched but have nice outcome from the plaits(again u can use twists but they aren't as shrink proof as plaits.) The bands help the roots not puff up but it seals & moisturizes soooo good. If u do it nightly or every other night it's great. You don't re-wet it just a lil grease & plait back up. You want it more defined after u take it down use gel too but not needed for a softer look
@@reemj3675 idk my mom was perming this poo outta my hair by the time I was in middle school but she was still slathering my hair down with Vaseline and pink lotion lol

I have been applying Blue Magic after my leave-in Conditioner for over a Year now; and I have noticed a HUGE difference in the moisture Level in my Hair. I wear my Hair in an Afro; and my Hair stays soft for an entire Week. I love it!!
Your hair looks great! Some people forget many of us used hair grease on natural hair since childhood and our hair is just fine. Blue Magic, Dixie Peach, Sulphur 8, Royal Crown, Ultra Sheen...We can go home again! 😅🤣
I find Blue Magic a little too heavy of a sealant for my hair, so I have started using Softee Indian Hemp and Argan or Bronner Bros Pine Tar. Sometimes I'll even mix a spoonful of each with aloe vera gel - it makes an amazing moisturizing sealant. As always, love your review!
Same, blue magic is waaaaay too heavy for me. Softee is great that’s what I have. I like BB super gro as well. My mom used ultra sheen but I can’t find it in stores anymore
I am glad I came across this video today. It was time to refresh my six day old wash-n-go. I misted my hair with water, sprayed on a curl refresher, finger combed, applied Xtreme gel and topped that off with Soft Sheen hair grease. My curls were elongated (thank you Jesus) and clumped. I sat under my hood hair dryer until my hair was dried. My hair was greasy at first but after 45 minutes or so, my hair had absorbed everything. So now several hours later, my hair is soft, shiny , still elongated and soft to the touch. Now I have a go-to refresher routine. Thank you Faye!!!!
Once I added blue magic super sure gro to my regimen, my hair stopped shedding excessively, became thicker and grew. I switched to their Argan oil leave in and I've had the best twist out of my life. Water, BM leave in, and BM grease has my hair flourishing. I gave or threw everything else away🤷🏾♀️
I grew up with Royal Crown. Got older and went with Hair Rep. Hair grew down past my shoulder blades. Started using that new fangled crap - hair on the floor. Went back to Hair Rep and my hair sings me to sleep erry night.
As a teenage black girl who struggles with my hair, i love your videos. Im currently binge watching them and just writing the products you recommend. I'm blessed to have found your channel. RUclips's algorithm did something right. BTW: where do you find a Samantha?

Listen Sally!!!.... Yes! 🤣 Love how your personality just comes through!!! I've been using blue magic for the past few weeks... and it's been a yes ever since!!! Don't know why I stopped... I had beautiful, thick, long, and moisturized braids/twists etc growing up! As always TFS!❤

I'm a new subscriber. Love it personality. I'm from the old school. Dax was used in my hair and Sulfur 8. In think as yrs pa ssed, ingredients have been altered. I appreciate the fact that it hair is short. I've watched other videos n everyone's hair is long n thick. Not my hair. I don't get my hair done as often as I did, I've gone back to basics n try tips from videos.
Blue magic has been doing me right for the past few months. It keeps my hair super moisturized...better than some of the moisturizing creams I’d been using. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
I been wanting to go back to grease and I made my own from Vaseline, Jamaican Black Castro oil and essential oils. My hair stays moist and this was through two weeks of braids I did.
Faye In The City yes girl ppl under estimate them essential oils like lavender, tea tree, rosemary, lemon... you know! Girl your hair was poppin at the end 😍
Congratulations on these numbers gurl!!!!! I used to use Blue Magic mixed with Johnson &Johnson baby lotion in a jar and put it in my daughters hair and it grew so much. Have a wonderful week, really loved your TGIN IG session keep growing and enjoy your ride. Remember I told you TGIN was going to be good for you 😊
Yesssss!!! Damn the natural hair police 😂 I've been using this hair grease I found it's called Amauri's Coils and baybeee its so bomb! My curls are signed, sealed, and delivered!
That's my favorite saying too, "You are not the boss of me", girl grease is the BOMB, I just do ME and keep in pushing, my hair is growing long with my grease regimen. Yes Lawd, won't grease do it? Shoot, ladies better go get you some and just do YOU!!!
I live in southern Arizona and my hair will be so dry it feels like its on fire!! I went back to grease and my hair is thankful for putting out the fire!
I have micro locs and started using the blue magic recently and my hair loves it. I'm no longer a PJ, but this is back in my arsenal. Love the finished product you got and just for clarification, you don't have a Jheri Curl 😂. People can be so extra.
It's shiny! I use African Pride's grease for my scalp occasionally. It has herbs that are great for the hair and smells fantastic. I wear a top knot most times. Braids sometimes. That's about it until I decide to silk press. Can I just say that I enjoy the heck outta your channel. I love your personality. Your hair is growing so fast. It looks great! (Hey Samantha 👋🏽!)
I watched your S - Curl activator review video and I love your personality and that led me to watch a few more videos. You have gained a new subscriber.
hey chile! 😁 i left my cap on after applying the leave-in last wash day. i used to do it without even thinking, but fell off with my consistency. when i heard your recommendation, i was like - yep! that's true! 😊👍😊 the definition is everything. our fam knew the deal back then. thanks for paying homage today. stay safe.
I love your spirit and energy! You just got a new subscriber. I died when you introduced Samantha. I have to admit, I fell for the whole "not using hair grease" thing and my hair was letting me know that she didn't like that. I've been using grease again for a while now and we're all happy.
Girl I used the grease last week and got 8 days out of it using the S Curl Gel on the bottom and the grease on top it was the freakin 💣. It stayed very moisturized for 8 whole days with no refreshing and I only used like a dime sized amount of grease and it WAS NOT GREASY on my hands or hair. Yours came out beautiful as well 💜
We in the islands still use grease...my faves are the Shea butter coconut mix, Blue magic and the scented Aloe vera.. I can still hear Mammy "come lemme grease yo scalp"😂😂😂 I also add grease and coconut oil to my black beeswax for my twist out..cuz sometimes the flakes from these gels be too much
I went back to using grease. Currently I’m using Sunny Isles JBCO Pomade but I’ve used the Blue Magic with Hemp. My hair stays soft much longer when I seal with grease than an oil. Btw...that first glob of grease on that small patch of hair had my eyes bulging 😳. But other than that your hair came out very pretty.
people forget that's all we had literally 20yrs ago. I am back to PINK OIL MOISTURIZER now , my natural hair loves it.All these NATURAL HAIR PRODUCTS is NEW marketing and most of them I have tried, my natural hair dont like. The mineral oil helps my hair be more manageable. I use Hair MAYONNAISE, and it was the bomb, best conditioner ever and low shedding. Use your blue magic, Girl, your hair was beautiful.
I love your channel! Thank you for this video. I recently went back to greasing my scalp (I'm using Doo Gro right now because its what's in my house at the moment lol) and I found that my Seborrheic Dermatitis's been behaving. No itchiness, flakes, inflammation, dryness, irritation etc... I stopped using following what people said that it harms hair..but honestly I'm starting to rethink a lot of things that was said in the natural hair community.
Folks just make up stuff! I say do your own research and pay attention to how your hair responds! I won’t be using grease every well but when I want that extra moisture, I’m pulling it right on out!
Faye, God's child, my sista, my girl. Let me start like my mother would do and that is, "Girl you know I love you right?!" Now, for those who don't know you, starting to know you through your channel like me, I see God. She is loved, she's confident in his love, walks with his love. Thank you for just being you! Keep up the great work on your natural and spiritual journey. God bless!
Girl you’re testing me! I just put my hair in mini braids and now I want to use style it 😫 I need to keep these mini braids in for at least 2 weeks. I’m still traumatized from grease running down my scalp.
Go Faye GO! I love Blue magic & have never stoped using it ,but Chile your hair came out beautufuly moisturized ,you are such a cutie 🥰 AND you DON'T have a Jerry curl 😂😂😂 the NERVE!!! TFS,stay safe and well 🙏🏼
I have been using the softeys grease and I have not had as much split ends as when using my hair products from shea moisture and the likes. I think the grease is thick enough to protect from hair being out in the sun all day and it is def better in the winter at keeping my hair moist.
I'm so happy to see your review on this! I have always used Blue Magic since I started doing my own hair in college almost 10 years ago bc it's how my mom used to do it. My friends make fun of me for using it, but it hasn't let me down yet and my curls always look great when I take my braids out! I started with the coconut oil but I didn't like how it felt on my hair when it got cold out so I switched to the super sure gro, which I love! 😊
Blue magic.....did some magic for you!😁 Girl I was a little worried at the beginning...glad you kept it going. Your hair looked so nice at the end! Noticing your hair growth too!😊
Grease helped us grow our hair when we were kids, we had pony tails all down our backs! Idk why people stray away from it these days... but I'm going back to it!
I don’t blame you! My sister and I had THICK ponytails and all my momma did was wet a brush and style our hair with blue magic and a little gel
Same went back to it they have improved their line and products
PERIOD!!!
When I use this Grease, I make sure use a more natural (well at least a silicone free) moisturizer and BOOP Moisture...for days booboo!

Blue majic. Lawd the memories rushin back
Sameeee! As soon as I saw it in the store, I felt like a little girl all over again!
I brought it too. Going back to grease because my hair is always dry. It works
Gel first, then grease❤❤❤
That's my favorite saying too, "You are not the boss of me", girl grease is the BOMB, I just do ME and keep in pushing, my hair is growing long with my grease regimen. Yes Lawd, won't grease do it? Shoot, ladies better go get you some and just do YOU!!!
I went back to use that and it has helped my hair retain moisture and smoothness.
I live in southern Arizona and my hair will be so dry it feels like its on fire!! I went back to grease and my hair is thankful for putting out the fire!
That one curl gave you the inspiration to keep on going! BEAUTIFUL tooo. Love this combination.
I have micro locs and started using the blue magic recently and my hair loves it. I'm no longer a PJ, but this is back in my arsenal. Love the finished product you got and just for clarification, you don't have a Jheri Curl 😂. People can be so extra.
Been here for 9mins and 53seconds… and a sis had to subscribe ✨
Thank you algorithm
I did this for year with my kids. It last long, and grows very long. Love it. I did not use gel, but the blue magic👋🏻
Didn’t use blue magic growing up but we shole’ had royal crown hair grease on deck.
Blue Magic is bae 😍 moisture for days!
Always and forever!
hey chile! 😁
i left my cap on after applying the leave-in last wash day. i used to do it without even thinking, but fell off with my consistency. when i heard your recommendation, i was like - yep! that's true! 😊👍😊
the definition is everything. our fam knew the deal back then. thanks for paying homage today. stay safe.
The whole first part I was just waiting on “don’t judge me judge yo moma “ that’s my favorite line 😂😂
I love your spirit and energy! You just got a new subscriber. I died when you introduced Samantha. I have to admit, I fell for the whole "not using hair grease" thing and my hair was letting me know that she didn't like that. I've been using grease again for a while now and we're all happy.
*"If you would be so kind...Who made/designed your, "Faye In The City" light-up plaque?"*
It is nice. ❤
Giiiirl, if you like Blue Magic then you will love Doo Gro Hair Vitalizer😊 It replaced Blue Magic as my favorite sealant.
Heyyyyy Samantha!!!!you are so funny!!!! Blue magic is what we use I 3 daughters with 3 different textures.n
It’s really pretty!!
Hey Chile, I just noticed the cute ‘Faye In the City’ sign in the background. Love it.
omg beautiful results and your curl pattern is pretty af
"she jumped so other products could run" lol 😂😂😂😂
Love your realness and wonderful personality. You look beautiful as always. Glad the products worked out for you.
Thank you!
Sooo could we get a tutorial of how you get fabulous ponytails
I will one day soon! I just keep forgetting to record it! 😂
THANK U!!!!
Miss Faye go get the blue magic super sure gro the smell is amazing and it helps with growth.
Yours came out beautiful as well 💜
I love hearing that!!!!! I probably used too much grease today but I don’t even care. I love how it came out! My hair is sooooo soft!
@@FayeInTheCity Yaaaaaassss so was mine 🙌🏾
What style did you leave your hair in ?
I was thinking about using grease with that gel. Do you recommend putting wetline after I put the grease or before?
@@essie4302 I didn't use Wetline but I used the gel first then about a dime size of grease per section
Luv ur energy and funny humor
Love the blue magic naturals in my daughter’s hair. The BEST sealant on the block 💯
I didn’t know they made natural products! I’ll go look for it!
Faye In The City soooo I don’t know how “natural” it is 😬🤣 but it smells clean and has “herbs” in it 🤣 been using it over a decade
Faye In The City my bad girl, I just read it. It’s the Organics one
I used it a couple weeks ago and my hair is in love. It’s a vibe.
I just used Blue Magic for the first time with Naturall Club’s leave in and moisturizer, twisted my hair and it was sooo moisturized.
Yessssss!
We in the islands still use grease...my faves are the Shea butter coconut mix, Blue magic and the scented Aloe vera.. I can still hear Mammy "come lemme grease yo scalp"😂😂😂
I also add grease and coconut oil to my black beeswax for my twist out..cuz sometimes the flakes from these gels be too much
I bet your hair stays soft for days!
@@FayeInTheCity yes ma'am!!👌🏼💕
Girl i used to use blue magic for my twist out i felt like they last longer and had more definition, i need to pick some more up. Its a great sealant
I bet it did! My hair feels incredible!
I love naturals who don’t take these products seriously! So fun to watch!
"In memory of my Granny!" lol
I went back to using grease. Currently I’m using Sunny Isles JBCO Pomade but I’ve used the Blue Magic with Hemp. My hair stays soft much longer when I seal with grease than an oil.
Btw...that first glob of grease on that small patch of hair had my eyes bulging 😳. But other than that your hair came out very pretty.
Yeahhhhh I cut back immediately after that! 😂😂😂😂😂
people forget that's all we had literally 20yrs ago.
Earlier today I was looking on RUclips to see if you've done a grease vid! Coincidence or no? 🤔
Premonition or nah?!!! You got a gift you want to tell me about?!! 😂😂😂😂😂
@@FayeInTheCity ion know hun, all I wanna say is thanks for this entertainment!
SUPER cute and took me back to childhood. I need the moisture for my bush and I'm going back to it. Thanks for the reminder!
❤️❤️❤️
she be having some thoughts 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
🤣
You did that!! Wetline is everything!! I never used grease under it but I will this time. Grest job!
I won’t be using grease every well but when I want that extra moisture, I’m pulling it right on out!
i use blue magic as a sealant for my wash and go. just water, leave in, grease then gel. my hair is thriving, bra length when stretched.
That’s awesome!
I was looking at some blue magic earlier today when I was in dollar general! I need to go back and buy it for real! 😂😍
Go get ittttttt!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Girl in the words of Mary Mary Go Get, go get, go get, go get your blessing AND OF COURSE if still there
@@FayeInTheCity please where can I get some in Ghana 🇬🇭
Faye, God's child, my sista, my girl. Let me start like my mother would do and that is, "Girl you know I love you right?!" Now, for those who don't know you, starting to know you through your channel like me, I see God. She is loved, she's confident in his love, walks with his love. Thank you for just being you! Keep up the great work on your natural and spiritual journey. God bless!
Girl you’re testing me! I just put my hair in mini braids and now I want to use style it 😫 I need to keep these mini braids in for at least 2 weeks. I’m still traumatized from grease running down my scalp.
Keep the braids!!!! I WISH i could have some! 😂😂😂😂😂🌹
Hot grease frying your scalp during that press and curl....I still have the trauma and I'm 54
She’s just sooo silly... & I LOVE IT 💙💜💙💜💙💜💙💜💙💜💙💜💙💜💙💜💙💜💙
Lol thank you
I put that cap on my leave in and Chile.... I won't go back!!!
Yassssss!!!!!!
HEEEEEY SAMANTHA!💅
These glasses in the intro😍
Lol thanks girl! Zenni Optical, per usual!
Omg I was searching for this comment all your glasses be cute!
YASSSS CHILE!!!! I never stopped using grease, and i definitely love Blue Magic. BEAUTIFUL results. 💜💚💙❤💛
Thank you!
Every time I put on my Samantha my hubby has jokes. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Go Faye GO! I love Blue magic & have never stoped using it ,but Chile your hair came out beautufuly moisturized ,you are such a cutie 🥰 AND you DON'T have a Jerry curl 😂😂😂 the NERVE!!! TFS,stay safe and well 🙏🏼
She don't have a jheri curl umkay 😂
I just need the people to stop telling me my Jheri curl looks good! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@FayeInTheCity I'm hollering!
@@FayeInTheCity 🤣🤣🤣
Cute i love it
I have been using the softeys grease and I have not had as much split ends as when using my hair products from shea moisture and the likes. I think the grease is thick enough to protect from hair being out in the sun all day and it is def better in the winter at keeping my hair moist.
Blue magic is the only thing that keeps my hair from flaking. Plus, I use it for my feet for it to be oh so soft, lol
I didn’t even think of that! Rub it on and put on some socks! I may try that because Rona has my feet looking reptilian! 😂😂😂😂
NEVER thought of using on my feet!! You may be on to something 😉
@@FayeInTheCity Mines too, lol
@@julola3862 I thought people knew about that, lol
That Blue Magic Works wonders on dry feet, knees & elbows especially if you have eczema
You know who you can judge 🤣🤣🤣 YA MOMMA.... I don’t know how or when we stopped using grease my hair loves it... Another great video
I love blue magic super sure gro grease! And people think that everyone that’s natural has a Jheri curl. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Just found ur videos and I love u already omg. As someone who just combed out my locs after 13 years you have given me hope for my natural
Enjoy your new journey!!!
@@FayeInTheCity thank you 🤗
I'm so happy to see your review on this! 😊
My mainstay is the Blue Magic Coconut (clear). The blue one can stain scarves/pillowcases. My hair is relaxed.
Blue magic.....did some magic for you!😁 Girl I was a little worried at the beginning...glad you kept it going. Your hair looked so nice at the end! Noticing your hair growth too!😊
