I guess I should have watched this video a long time ago! I only just recently heard of goodeids, and feel like I've been sleeping on some pretty cool fish! And suddenly I'm stumbling across lots of fishkeeping videos about them. Interesting how even though I've been heavily invested in this hobby for more than a few years, there's still things I've never heard of...
Really great explanation about the 7.2 ph and crushed coral at 1:47 . Hope to see more informative videos like this . Really helps to get the water to the right conditions for the fish . Great to hear you question Cory , his answers are packed with experience.
Livebearers are great because they pay for themselves. You sell or trade the babies for store credit and when the original ones get old, you save some babies to continue keeping them. They come in a wide variety of types, colors, sizes and variations. They are enjoyable to watch because they are always doing something. Great video.
When I was a kid in the 1960s my dad bought me my first Aquarium and about a half dozen guppies. The guppies looked like what you call endlers but back then they were just called guppies. There were very few fancy strains of fancy guppies available at the time. Guppies, platties, mollies and sword tails were all available but were pretty basic in their variations. Nothing like today where you could have a whole store with nothing but live bearers.
i keep guppies in a pond that gets around 50-55 degrees at night as well and they do great during the summer and even breed hundreds of fry each summer. love the video.
This video is full of great information. I did not know that one mating session could produce 2 years of fry for guppies. Very interesting. Thanks Cory.
I love that you enjoy the variatus from Petsmart! I have a colony of the marigold type that is one of my favorites. Huge fry! Will definitely submit for next viewer video.
Some info for you Bob and Corey, I've had Endlers and Guppies for 15-20 years now and my tap water is about a PH of 6.8 to 7.0 and a water softness of about 4.5 grains from my well. With Malaysian driftwood in my tanks the PH stays around 6.4 - 6.6 and I am always getting plenty of spawn. I can't keep up with finding homes. I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada... actually not to far from Joey.
Another USA native livebearer is the mosquito fish "Gambusia affinis" it is very hardy, will eat anything, and is very similar to guppies, but it doesn't have much color (usually a dull gray to light brown.) I started with six females and two males, and I now have a fully stocked pond and an aquarium full of them!
I'm a fan of big fish but I always have a soft spot for guppies. I recently setup a 10 gallon guppy tank and it got too crowded after a few months so now I upgraded them to a 30gallon. I find that they are so much more rewarding than my big fish.
Thank you! My guppy was having babies in a community tank and they were dissapearing. Now that I feed them 3 times a day instead of 2 they are actually growing!
I finally get why Cory has no livebearers I asked on his live streams but never got an answer great video guys I love your channels and this community that your building with all the youtube fish channels keep up the good work
I keep mine over 1000 PPM half of that is calcium, magnesium and sodium bicarbonate. The rest is made up with marine salt mix. I start with RO water and add 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of SeaChem Equilibrium, and 1 teaspoon of marine salt mix per gallon. Most livebearers love this water. Cheers, Chris
With that many frys I would remove most of the them , And they'll spawn again . This reallly is Cory talking about his guppies. Which he has a lifetime supply of. Good video of his old fishroom.
Lots of solid info on a great topic. Livebearers are very fulfilling to keep with all the color, personality and breeding they bring to the table. Great video.
Great video. I'm just getting into guppies. Having only dealt with marine, goldfish and Siamese fighting fish, this is a whole new kettle of fish for me, lol.
My tab water in Miami has chloramine and it start off with .25 ppm in ammonia, ph 7.6 and hard water. In 5 gallon gallon Marina been using AquaClear using ammonia remover working good and no harm the female betta Fluval C2 for 10 gallon, I can I used ammonia remover. No fish yet but thinking Guppies, neon tetra and Corydoras.
I like keeping just female livebearers to avoid breeding , I love keeping them , right now I have 5 female juvenile guppies , one platy balloon and one swordtails . All females .
This video was so helpful!!! Thanks guys . Can you do a video on tank set up and aquascaping tips. I have a 55g I'd like to re decorate including new substrate ..
Is it ok if I keep only male guppies in the tank and females in another ? They breed a lot and I dont have enough room for them so I need a way to stop them breeding. Males are chasing each others but not too much.
Jumping spiders do the sperm storage thing too, several litters from one breeding. Though I prefer to mix it up with different males for my females. There is also a breeding method I use for stubborn females,I stick both of them in a pill bottle where the female can't run off or avoid the male and this works 99% of the time.
Which are more hardy, regular guppies, or endlers? I hears some people say endlers are more sensitive to water quality fluctuations than guppies. But I heard other people say generations of captive breeding have made regular guppies less resistant to parasites. So which is true?
Bob or Cory, I'm feeding my liberty mollies very heavily right now, but I was wondering, how often should I feed them if they are going in an outdoor pond that has quite a bit of algae and mosquitos falling in?
I HOPE TO GET AN ANSWER .......... I have a male guppy and one female guppy and my female gave babys that are the same size and colors that Endlers ...... Can it happen ?????
What's the name of that last live bearer, the smallest one? I've got a 3 gallon tank with an old betta and when he passes away I'm not sure what other fish I would feel comfortable housing in such a small tank, that small live bearer sounds ideal
can platys, balloon mollies and regular mollies be put together with guppies. because my local fish shop owner says balloon mollies, regular mollies and platys will attack guppies. so what is the answer. thanks million!
I have no baby fry.all only males and adult. I'm also curious if I keep Platy, mollies, Swordtail, it says must keep in brackish water only. Is it true.
I thought those were ballon mollys! I thought guppys were tiny! They have the big belly too! I noticed the tail was big and colorful. I have seen these in store and just assumed they stayed small! The plays look like ballon mollys too! Its wierd because I keep seeing ballon mollys in stores and fell in love with the body and the wide cute face and seemed to be very personal. I even went an bought a tank to get some and love the dalmation one as well. They didnt seem to have the body but had the wide big face I like also my betts has that as well, so I wanted a female betta to g in the community tank with some of these types of fish, plus some others on my list
I have a 135 gallon tank i want cold water fish i love the hi fin platy what kind of other platies do well in cold water or any other live birth fish that do well in cold water please and thank you
I would like to breed guppies in a 15 gallon. Start with a trio, would you say?? Or put more fish in? Can I have shrimp in there with them ok? Thank you for all your great work!
Thanks for your video. After having to Bettas, We decided to try a school of tropical fish in our 10 gallon tank. But, our local pet store gave us 4 males because of their colors and we didn’t want to worry about the breeding right now. Is that ok? We are going to add a couple of bottom feeders and maybe neon Tetras.
You obviously don't need the answer to this question, two years later! But for the sake of anyone else who might be reading through comments in the future, absolutely! You can keep all males, or all females, and in most cases it should be just fine for the majority of livebearers.
One more question. I want dark substate and I want all of these fish plus others. I cant use seachem flourish or is there a dark aragonite or a way to bring up ph?
Not all guppies breed easily, like afr, abt and other fancy guppies, maybe because it is a product of many crosses, currently I have 10 strain of guppies and I never cross them and keep eye on its offspring if there are other colors that will appear and immediately cull it to maintain the strain
Be sure to support Aquarium coop and the channel here: geni.us/Ck6A
still valid reliable info from 2 fish guy nerds :@)
I keep one more livebearer
mosquitofish
I keep mosquitofish, guppies, platies, and swordtails in the same tank with no trouble.
My first tank had Mickie Mouse platys, and the instant I saw that first little fry I have been hooked ever since.
Great vid! Cory isn't exaggerating about those beautiful guppies, wow. I had never even heard of goodieds! Very neat.
I agree also I love your channel

Funny that this popped up on my feed, I checked my tank in the garage this morning to find about 30 Dalmatian molly fry just chilling in the hornwart.
I just got my first aquarium set up of guppies. I love them so far. Lots of babies, very friendly. I love all the different colours and varaties
Nice!! They are super fun to keep.
I love livebearers. I have a ton of platy, guppies, and starting to get mollies too.
This is a good one. Noone is producing really good content like this right now. Thanks for sharing it.
Those are really some good looking female guppies!
Really good looking =)
I just love seeing cory so excited about guppies! I'm currently in love with endlers and I'm considering breeding them. I'm not sure yet though.
0.o how'd it go?
When I was a kid in the 1960s my dad bought me my first Aquarium and about a half dozen guppies. The guppies looked like what you call endlers but back then they were just called guppies. Glad you mentioned this one today. It was awesome. So much great info. Thanks!
Awesome video, I cannot find fish like that by me for nothing! This video is a TRUE favorite!!! Thank you Bob, you and Corey are the best Dream Team.
Awesome educational video! From one of the best genuine ppl in the game
I love guppies, cuz of all color and tail combinations, so much color and patterns.
I love that you enjoy the variatus from Petsmart! I have a colony of the marigold type that is one of my favorites. Huge fry! Will definitely submit for next viewer video.

I have rock hard water and endlers do well. I have them with a variety of small tetras and rasboras in a planted 150.

great video Bob, Cory has some of the coolest live bearers. thanks to both of you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it =)
Man I miss keeping live bearers! Those trout goodeids are absolutely amazing! Never seen them over here in the UK
Yea, i need to get my hands on some of them.
Another USA native livebearer is the mosquito fish "Gambusia affinis" it is very hardy, will eat anything, and is very similar to guppies, but it doesn't have much color (usually a dull gray to light brown.) Excellent job Bob & Cory!! Great looking fish & helpful information.
Hello
I am from Indonesian ,
Beautyfull your guppies and natural your aquascape
I'm a fan of big fish but I always have a soft spot for guppies. I recently setup a 10 gallon guppy tank and it got too crowded after a few months so now I upgraded them to a 30gallon. I find that they are so much more rewarding than my big fish.

Thank for sharing all the great fish. Makes me want another tank ☺️
Thats how it starts lol =)
I finally get why Cory has no livebearers I asked on his live streams but never got an answer great video guys I love your channels and this community that your building with all the youtube fish channels keep up the good work
Great video for an aquarium newbie! Subscribed, and can't wait for more content!
I had a pair of black tuxedo swordtails. They definitely were more aggressive then the red way swordtails and Mickey Mouse platies.
LIVEBEARERS Yes! Great video. Best topic ever. Although all the other SA and AC vids rock too!
I used to have Molly’s and I did great I am hoping to get them both guppies too
I keep mine over 1000 PPM half of that is calcium, magnesium and sodium bicarbonate. The rest is made up with marine salt mix. 1000 or 100 ?? wtf
Lophix, I’m running my tds at a little over 1000 ppm. 100 is quite soft, and IMHO, not good for most live bearers.
I'm with Cory on livebearers and I'm with you bob on the rainbows.
Perfect! lol
I didn't have to wait for the gestation period I bought my female guppies right before the were about to pop lol
With that many frys I would remove most of the them , And they'll spawn again . This reallly is Cory talking about his guppies. Which he has a lifetime supply of. Good video of his old fishroom.
2:57 nice color
Black and Dalmation Mollies always in my tanks!
Lots of solid info on a great topic. Livebearers are very fulfilling to keep with all the color, personality and breeding they bring to the table.
Great video.
Thank you Fish Nerd =)
Cory, what species of guppy are these. They are beautiful!
Great video. I'm just getting into guppies. Having only dealt with marine, goldfish and Siamese fighting fish, this is a whole new kettle of fish for me, lol.
Your guppy females are so vibrant.
Yea, best females i have ever seen.
Steenfott Aquatics . Could you tell me what kind of guppy is in centre shot at 1.30 please?
I'd like to know also. I was checking out Guppy Train, but couldn't find them by scrolling.
Denise Pollitt Nebula Steel
kanga . Thank you.
First vid watched, coming over from Aquarium Coop, and there's Cory! Ha
+Ethan Santiago lol, welcome to the channel, hope you enjoy it.
Same bro

Ice Cool!! lol =)
very nice livebearer fish, stay healthy!
This video was so helpful!!! Thanks guys . Can you do a video on tank set up and aquascaping tips. I have a 55g I'd like to re decorate including new substrate ..
One guy told me he dedicated his guest toilet as a guppybanger tank. Idk, I'd have to see it to believe it..
I keep thinking that I want a black molly tank one day, because having an aquarium full of jet black fish sounds incredibly cool.
I agree, i love jet black fish. Always looks cool.
@@SteenfottAquatics ...and going relatively large and keep black sailfins sounds even more fun.
Demon aquarium lmao 🤣 😂 😆
Is it ok if I keep only male guppies in the tank and females in another ? They breed a lot and I dont have enough room for them so I need a way to stop them breeding. Males are chasing each others but not too much.
yes you can separate them
What is the massed plant that is in the endler tank? Looks very healthy and ideal for liverbearer babies.
Jumping spiders do the sperm storage thing too, several litters from one breeding. Though I prefer to mix it up with different males for my females. There is also a breeding method I use for stubborn females,I stick both of them in a pill bottle where the female can't run off or avoid the male and this works 99% of the time.
Great video again Bob!
I love livebearers!
Cory's fish look really nice!
*Keep up the good work and thumbs up!*
#NotificationSquad
Thank you Danny =)
Are you still working with this strain? Beautiful!
loving leave that looks like a grumpy man at top in middle 8,31 is best view
Those females are insane! Great content, I can’t get enough guppies.
Like to have a bottom fish that will clean the tank really like to know what’s the best
I have a guppy male that keeps doing it with my mollie they are both orange is there anyway they can be any other colors
Another great video Bob. How are your green phantom plecos getting on?
Which are more hardy, regular guppies, or endlers? I hears some people say endlers are more sensitive to water quality fluctuations than guppies. But I heard other people say generations of captive breeding have made regular guppies less resistant to parasites. So which is true?
Bob or Cory, I'm feeding my liberty mollies very heavily right now, but I was wondering, how often should I feed them if they are going in an outdoor pond that has quite a bit of algae and mosquitos falling in?
Id scale back a little bit. It's really hard to say for sure. Just keep an eye on them.
How many gallons of tank will you recommend for an Trio guppy(for breeding)???
i would at least a 20 gallon tall. You could do ten gallon but you will get over run by guppies pretty quick
I have a ton of babies at what stage can I add them back to the big tank with the parents
How do you get rid of cladophora algae?
How do you think an all male Swordtail 75 gallon tank would do? I'm thinking about 20 fish, each uniquely colored or patterned.
I HOPE TO GET AN ANSWER ..........
I have a male guppy and one female guppy and my female gave babys that are the same size and colors that Endlers ......
Can it happen ?????
So happy I found you guys ❤
Love livebearers
Me too =)
Hello what are those weeds called that the fys hide in
Getting close to 10k! Thanks for sharing!
We are getting close =)
What's the name of that last live bearer, the smallest one? I've got a 3 gallon tank with an old betta and when he passes away I'm not sure what other fish I would feel comfortable housing in such a small tank, that small live bearer sounds ideal
Heterandria Formosa
awesome! Thank you!
Do you ever clean does sponge filters?
Rarely
Will guppies do ok with angelfish and dwarf cichlids
Pretty sure angels would eat them if they are full grown. Maybe some dwarf cichlids.
Those are some real nice guppies dang
can platys, balloon mollies and regular mollies be put together with guppies. because my local fish shop owner says balloon mollies, regular mollies and platys will attack guppies. so what is the answer. thanks million!
They will probably eat guppy fry

Would it be okay to keep some rainbows with platys, Endlers, guppies, and shrimp or would they pick off the babies too much?
What are the fish with the yellow tails (males at least) that are in with the hi-fin platies? I love them.
Cyprichromis :)
Thank you so much for your response. :D
I’m kinda new to the aquarium plant world so could someone plz tell me what plant that is at 7:40-7:50? Thanks!
I have a 135 gallon tank i want cold water fish i love the hi fin platy what kind of other platies do well in cold water or any other live birth fish that do well in cold water please and thank you
All fish that give live birth have to stay in warm water you can buy a fish tank heater at walmart for $13.00 ...
I would like to breed guppies in a 15 gallon. Start with a trio, would you say?? Or put more fish in?
Can I have shrimp in there with them ok?
Thank you for all your great work!
I keep my guppies with shrimp no problem. I would start out with a trio.
Thanks for the tips. Will plants grow OK in crushed coral?
Mike S I mean... Cory dios it all the time in his fish tanks😁
Great video.. Lobe your guppys.. Anyway you ship to Colorado?
I've never seen the high fin platies in any petco or pet shop.
I have and I got it from Petco they´re are mixed in with assorted platies.

Oldie but a goodie
My betta is like best friends with one of my mollies. He follows the molly around the tank, not chase but schooling like. Its weird but I dont judge.
Are those marble chips as substrate?..is it safe to use ?
Are those yellow ones at pet smart the marigold variatus?? Please and thank you
+Brian Hunt it's been awhile but I believe so
