Great vid, Trev! I laughed a lot!
My biggest takeaway is that you said you don't practice your putting. I promise if you take even just 15 minutes a day and practice putting, you will see gains.
100% your mechanics are fine enough @trevor. Just practice putt the same way everyday for a while and you’ll feel invincible in the circle
I will die laughing if I see 2024 foundation videos with Trevor putting on one leg
That cop at 3:26 almost arrested you for that putting performance right there 😂 he thought about it!
Don’t listen to the internet, 15 mins of practice a day works wonders, muscle memory and confidence baby!
It’s mental at the point, you just need to work on it every day and keep seeing them go in
I have a lot of the same issues you do: missing right, weak pop, release on hyzer. These are the things I’ve been working on changing and it’s improved my consistency and power considerably as I get better at them: 1) wrist stays “locked”, fingers give the pop - Calvin Heimburg talks about just holding a disc and using your fingers to pop it up while sitting on the couch and this was enlightening 2) straddle stance with left foot slightly back - like left toes in line with right heel - and squatting to get leg power actually helped better than stagger stance 3) straight in, straight out for your swing motion with emphasizing the release point at the basket - different from “through the basket” more like “attack the basket” 4) try to keep the plate level or on the same place throughout your swing - this I think ties into #1 with keeping the wrist locked - unnecessary motion adds another variable you have to control - the main levers are the shoulder and elbow. Anyways, hope some of that might help
Yes! The couch tip. I improved my "pop" tons just sitting, popping it up, and catching it!
Same here! The finger pop felt weird at first, but once I got used to it putting felt so much more smooth
I think #4 is one of Trevor's biggest issues. Just before he starts his motion, his putter is 90 degrees to its intended path. That just seems useless.
You’re supposed to actually push off of your back foot, not just lift it up
Exactly. You transfer the weight from your back leg to front and when pushing off the back it should naturally come up
This right here is what turned putting from a struggle of mine into a strength! Wasted a whole season figuring it out. Lol
This a 100% push off that back foot. It's not a dance move to look good lol
This. I came to the comments for this.
Hopefully he reads this! It’s the weight transfer that helps keep everything else consistent. When my putting feels rough it’s because I’m not setting a solid base and using my body to help push the disc.
You wouldn’t throw an approach with just arm, why would you putt that way too?
One of the things Scott Stokely said revolutionized my putting. Pick a target, set up, close your eyes, and just go through the motions with no disc. When you've completed your stroke, open your eyes, and see where your body's line is. You might find that you're line is just a couple of chains off. In my case I was rocking so far to the right that I either had to early release to make it, or I would get enough power on it and pull it right because that's where my body wanted to go.
Try mimicking the hand motion that Calvin and KJ use. The bottom of their stroke is a hyzer (like yours) but then they finish palm up to create the pop, spin, and speed that you're looking for.
Hope this helps!
When I watched Simon work with Uli it kind of clicked for me. I noticed that I rarely missed when I got my palm up during the follow-through. I don't even need to watch my disc. I can tell where it's going just from where my hand finishes.
The pop is supposed to come from your fingers, this is something Gannon stresses a lot. He gets a ton of pace on it so he seems like a pretty reliable source. Personally, I implemented this into my putting game and it very much increased my range, I went from needing to step 45 footers, to not needing to step until closer to 60 ft.
People would be surprised at how little a pop feels, yet adds so much. Add to it a deeper backswing and, you can get some distance.
I was literally going to say the same thing
Totally agree with a little add-on. I believe "pop" comes from that GOOD timing when your weight transfer, arm, wrist, and fingers all 'line up' and time perfectly together. It's when something gets out of whack that the 'pop' of distance falls off quickly.
Loved this video. Thanks for sharing, Trev. Hard to not add my two cents, and I kept telling myself I wouldn't do it...but I can't resist. I apologize to everyone in advance! Two things that work for me when my putt dissapears from planet earth and nothing feels right:
1 - Putting reps without thinking of any form/grip/stance. Sometimes I'll take every putter I can find and just crank out hundreds of putts with no formal setup or conscious attempt to repeat the same motion. As you do it, you start to figure out and notice different things on your own about form, grip, stance, aim, follow through, release, spin, etc. , instead of cycling through all the putting tips in your head that you've heard/seen while you're practicing. Sometimes is takes 100's of reps before you notice you're own things, but it works. Tiger Woods had a funny/good comment that relates to this. It was something like "don't watch f-ing RUclips, go hit balls instead".
2. - Similar to 1 above, practice with a putter you know like the back of your hand even if it isn't what you are going to putt with, or is a throwing putter. Have you ever tried practicing with your trusty Slammer that came back from the depths of hell in Rock Creek, Idaho? I did this with Rhyno's just cause I know the disc so well. The thumb track and bead provided more visual and physical reference points to notice things like where my thumb and fingers were placed, and then it was easier to adjust and try different things based on those reference points. When I went back to my putting putters... everything was easier. Same concept as heavy weight training putters I guess. I don't know much, but just some food for thought. Cheers!
Nice to see you found something that works. My tip: Based on your own comment about missing low with your old form, then missing high on your turbo attempts, bring your draw-back into your diaphragm, so the disc is starting above the tray, not below which is causing the low miss.
Straddle For One Month!
I was absolutely lost for a few months on the green. So in January i did Straddle Only for the entire month if I was i side C2.
For me, the focus was just get a solid base which was easier to do for me in straddle position. Solid base and solid footing kind of isolated the upper body for me.
I had to focus on 1. Get the disc to the basket chain high. 2. Just find a release point with snap of the wrist. In straddle you have to really have a solid release.
Eventually i found confidence and a great release point. Then I just brought that confidence to my split stance putt or whatever style you like. I also became like a pure spin putter haha
You are left eye dominant, and right handed. This is called crosseye dominance. Ive found the only way to fix this in disc golf is be a straddle putter with your left foot at the mini.
Love your channel and been watching for a while now. One thing that I'm seeing is that you don't create space between your elbow and your torso. The best putters actually move their elbow towards the basket first then the wrist/disc/hand. It helped me create power and spin in my putt.
If you want to try getting the putter flatter on release, try giving it a subtle air bounce. Like Simon Lizotte. It helped me get more distance because it's floatier and flat out of the hand.
Hope these help!!!
I think you need to revisit putting through instead of at... The idea isn't necessarily more speed... It's to have a more consistent follow through... The more quickly and abruptly you stop/change your arm motion after(or potentially before) you release the disc the narrower the margins... The longer your arm is in the same path with the same speed around your release point then in general your misses will be less severe and easier to fix cause it's just timing at that point... Try and continue your follow through longer, at the same speed and direction. And/or learn to putt releasing the disc earlier before the abrupt end to your stroke where a ton of variables change quickly. I hope that makes sense
Side note/tip... Try releasing earlier and adjusting your aim accordingly... Arm speed and movement are much more consistent for longer for an "early release". Accept and embrace that low/left is your miss and walk it in. It's much easier to improve when you know which direction you have to go to do that
This was me last week but I watched Bodanzas leaning to putt as quickly as possible video and it has completely changed how I view putting
" HAVE I JUST NOT BEEN FOCUSED THIS WHOLE TIME" I'm dying right now that was pretty funny.
The best advice I can give that has changed my putting completely is watch Gannon Buhr’s putting video from a couple years ago. You don’t have to completely change your putt to match his to get a lot out of it. He perfectly articulates what all the pros are doing that I had never noticed before he said it. The mental not that I have now is that the putt is not a putt, it’s just a shorter throw. In the same way you drive your elbow in the backhand throw, when putting you need to think about putting the hand down and driving it up from the elbow not the hand. Just watch the video and you’ll see what I’m saying. Hope you see this comment and hope it works as well for you as it did for me👍
Trevor it seems as though you are chasing immediate results, things like putting take time and you know it. Just stick with something for sometime and see how it affects your putt. You’re a good enough player to be able to figure it out. It’s good to chase perfection, but immediate perfection is impossible.
I put everyday for a hour and I have became one of the better putters in my area if u dedicate yourself to practice u will get way better
This right here. I got tired of missing so I started going in my backyard every night after work and putted for 30 minutes ngl a week later and my score improved by 7 strokes 😂
People would be surprised at how quick one can throw 200-300 putts. 20-30 mins.
I can only recommend taking it back to basics. I believe putting is a confidence game. By the looks of it, you're confidence has hit bottom.
Put discs on the floor at different distances. Ranging from easy to difficult. Take all your putters and start on first (easy) distance. Don't proceed to the next distance until you put 75% of your discs. Miss 75%, you move fwd again.
Proper drill this into your game. You'll see massive improvements very quickly.
Hey Trevor. The reason one leg putts were helping you is because it forces your right knee to bend while you putt. When you switch back to two leg you start locking your right knee out before putting and loosing all leg drive. When you two leg putt you need that right knee to bend when you weight shift back and then it will drive power into your disc when you weight shift forward (better even to keep a slight bend in right knee the whole time versus locking it out).
The biggest thing that has helped my aim is: pick a single link of the first chain to the right of the pole to aim At. Aim small miss small. From there It’s just the mental game of having the confidence in myself to make the putt.
When I miss right, I bring the disc back to my left leg instead of my center. Also focusing on keeping pressure with your fingers as you bring the disc down helped me with the power
I noticed that the ones you had a nice spin but your release point was spot on.
Sup Trev, one tip that I think may help you a bit is that your shoulders stay pretty flat when you putt. If you watch a lot of pros, they’ll start flatter but extend their right shoulder towards the basket. Hunter actually does a really good job of this. Think of extending your upper body towards the basket instead of just your hand, it creates a much more natural extension and should help you keep the disc on line and stop missing right.
Not that I have mine dialed in but I had really bad hyzer so I try to start on anhyzer kinda like Matty O and it helped flatten my release
I'm excited to see you working on putting some more. I have some advice, based on what I've learned from my own biomechanics and putting practice. I'll focus on the issue of missing on the right side when putting a committed, "spin" putt (the reason you seem to prefer a wobbly, hyzered putt) and the two cues I use to fix it.
Just like throwing, I try to have the putt be released at the time at which the putter is being pulled away from the hand the strongest. This allows for a consistent release point (with a flat release). You have been using a lever-style putt where the power is generated by bringing your hand from low to high. When holding out your arm to your putting release point (elbow straight and flexed), you'll probably notice that your hand is angled (not perpendicular to the ground). This makes the putt release point vary, based on how hard you putt (power and spin), as you noticed when you "spin" putted in this video.
Instead, I have found that lifting my elbow up and to the outside of my body (almost perpendicular with the ground), which flexes my shoulder, (cue #1) forces my hand to be perpendicular to the ground (when flexed) and the release point to be consistent. This is because my wrist doesn't bend further right than straight ahead (when my elbow is elevated). In your putting, I noticed this same issue where your elbow is tucked in (to the right side of your torso), causing your hand to be angled upon release.
To force a straight release, I then imagine a straight line (cue #2) that the disc travels on from my navel (in the reachback) to the center of the basket (release point) and spin the putt on this line. I hope this helps you and/or others.
Side note: 11 o'clock front foot helps to aim straight as well.
The cues above allow me to avoid aiming really left (a frustrating mind trick) or turning my front foot to 10 o'clock (a weird body position), as I did for a while until I figured out the above biomechanics.
One tip that helped me that i figured out by watching some players and trying different stuff is to hinge your upper torso forward and down and then focus straightening your back when releasing the putt so you end up sort of upright with your back after the putt. Some pros word this differently and some dont even do this but its what helped me.
Shout out to the dude who said switch to turbo, I got so unconfident in my regular putt a few months ago I started just throwing turbos because I figured I'd miss anyways and instantly started being lights out within 25, outside of that I couldn't get them to the basket so I have started working back to my old putt and I feel like losing the memory of how I putt prior to turbo made me alot more confident now that I've switch back to the spush putt, plus I have another putt in the bag if I ever need to go over something or for weird raised baskets.
Also I don't know if you have adhd tendencies but I have to really REALLY focus before putting like in your last clip because I can't focus on anything and my vision actually blurs as well a bit.
When and where you are loading your wrist in the down/backswing is different from putt to putt. Preload your wrist, pick a spot where you want your backswing to pause everytime. I think this will help a lot.
I still use the shaking hand cue, but realize for me it is more about pointing my middle finger at my aim point, because my pinch on the disc is my middle finger and thumb.
Philo's putting clinic on RUclips helped me. Specifically his apple pie rythym suggestion.
Two things that have been helping me are keeping my back foot a little further back and on my toes, and the second is to keep a looser grip on the putter.
For the amount of spin you’re getting, it seems like you need more pressure between your middle finger and your thumb, so that it really spins out of the hand instead of kind of slipping out. For me personally, it also helps me get more spin if I bring the disc below the plane of my waist, as it helps to have more shoulder involvement. As for releasing on hyzer, I think you should think about the rotation of your shoulder instead of a pronation/supination of the wrist.
I think for you it’s not one thing, but we found in this video several things that work for you. Let’s bring them together.
1. Stand on one leg just to get your balance point and remember what that feels like.
2. Focus on a single chain link of 10 seconds (or however long it personally takes you to get that focus.
3. Push off your back foot for power, but return to that single foot balance point as you putt.
Now my advice that has helps me. When my putt goes sideways (sometimes literally) I switch to a straddle putt with a more down to up motion with a high follow through. It basically eliminates the left and right movement on the putt. Even with my eyes closed my form is generally consistent enough that I only miss high or low rather than left or right.
I get a bit more spin by starting my putt low and raise it to my belly button level before pushing forward more, so the stroke is a curve towards the basket rather than a straight angle line out towards the basket.
Some interesting ideas you tested there! Maybe the "focus" thing makes you relax by focusing your mind on something else than every minute movement of the separate body parts? Anyway, something I found helpful recently was to avoid pre-cocking my wrist. Instead, I tried to let the disc dangle as loosely as possible from my fingers at the bottom of the stroke - this really helped me with angle control at release (both hyzer/anhyzer and nose angle) and I'm honestly not sure why, maybe my elbow leads better now or something (btw I'm a straddle putter trying to add spin and angle control for putting distance so maybe not in the exact same situation as you but hey, you tried weirder things already).
Drew gibson put out a short 10 minute putting video not too long ago. He talked about grip and a drill. The craziest revelation that he shared is that, on most putts pros take, they end up curling their fingers under the flight plate instead of having them spread out. I highly recommend checking it out!
On a more serious note,
Uli’s lessons teach not keep your wrist straight and to spin using your elbow. It decreases the window to miss because it causes for less moving pieces.
So not that it matters now but watching Simon helping Paul with his putting finish with the palm open and slightly up or angled to right with fingers splayed over the traditional shaking hands finish... It sounds weird but it worked really well for me
For me, the foot around 11 o'clock helped a lot when initially figuring out how to spin the putter right at the basket (my miss was also right so it kind of naturally solves that issue), but another thing that helped me was hooking my pinky in almost like you would with a power grip but leaving the rest of the fingers comfortably fanned out as you would with a normal putting grip, basically just to help in adding spin. This really only works with deeper putters (especially beaded ones such as the Link)
I would say my best advice draws from playing darts, every dart player basically sights the dart up with their eye then throws from there, its hard to draw a perfect line from your side but if you keep it centered its pretty easy to aim, or try to picture someone behind the basket that you are trying to throw to...
Best video yet all-most passed out on the couch
Haven't watched the entire video yet but you for me the further i am from the basket the more I turn my back foot to the left. It helps me get more spin but i also put from the hip up to my chest for a ton of snap
If you struggle with control over the disc, than change it. I was putting with Daggers and after changing to Anodes I feel much better in C1. Before change I was also checking Rainmakers, the flight was amazing, but I had issues with spit outs. If you would like to stick to Rainmakers than should try to copy the way how Eagle is putting.
Practise with a shallow putter for some time, and then return to your own putter again. To "reset" your finger placement and feel of both the disc and the release. I keep different molds, nothing a like, just to make this reset some times... when im totally off i bag the shallow one for a couple of weeks or more, before i return (main putter: P2, Shallow: Sensei, beaded: PA-3)
I am telling you watch the vlogmas with Simon and Uli with the putting it was the first video that made my putting makes increase exponentially ... it just made sense good luck. For me the handshake finish always made my putts finish too left or with too much spit out potential when I added more spin... The hand finish In that video fixed both of those issues for me.
turning the foot helped me a lot, even further than 11 o'clock. another thing that really helped was instead of aiming for the chains, imagine the top of the cage is a flat surface and try to skim it off of that imaginary surface.
I have been able to use my wrist on my putts by leading with the back of my wrist and making sure to not open the wrist to the right even the slightest.
Also, you bring the disc to below your belt, but then right before you raise it, you drop it even lower. I believe that this is causing the low and early misses.
So eliminate that arm drop and lead with the back of the hand.
You did some things really well. You just need to tie them all in together and keep practicing. I love seeing different people practice putting because there are so many forms and ways to be good. Using the front foot turned, focusing on the chains for a few seconds, following through with your hand (hand shake with basket), aiming left were all great corrections. Sooo keep up with the consistency 👏 🎉!!! Its crazy your a lefty but putt righty 😂.
Try putting with your whole body. Right foot around 10/11 o'clock. Coil wrist a little on backstroke. Lean forward with hips first. Let arm relax from shoulder, down. Your arm will naturally swing forward and the disc will pop out with spin.
When I start missing right, I correct it by pointing my right toe more to the left and putt the same stroke.
I watched Ulis vlogmas video where he was getting pointers from Simon on putting.
Simon said if your having trouble with say 15' putts then go practice from 30'. When you step up to that 15' putt it will seem easy.
He also said he never practiced to get better. He practiced just because he loved doing it.
I have taken that advise and feel like it is helping my putting. I take 10 putters. Go out to 30' or more and run them. Sometimes I hit but most of the time I don't. When I step up to the 15 20 I hit 8 out of 10.
Have watched about half of the vid so far but i have to give you my advice as i see it.
Am i wrong in that literally all of your puts are nose down? That makes it SO hard to get it to the basket, requires a lot of power.
Give your putters a chance to fly instead of diving to hit the cage or pole every time. Put them nose up explicitly to start.
Then for RPM on the disc you already know to keep the grip loose but give it a jolt of pressure as you throwing to generate the spin. You need to get used to the timing of spinning the disc.
Best way i found: play catch at close range. Literally put to eachother. Worked like a charm to teach my friends little brother how to get the general wrist motion for putting. I think that's what you need. The general wrist and finger snap. You should be able to put 30ft with literally only your wrist and fingers. When you can do that you can dial it back to a controlled amount.
I just spent weeks working on my putt and this is what I found that helped me. #1 slightly lean back on your back foot and put your weight on it and actually push off and shift weight to front foot, that way you have to lift your back foot to keep your balance and not step forward. #2 just like with throwing, there should be a half second lag between pushing off and moving your hand and disc forward. Doing it at the exact same time seems to not have the same, or any effect that you’re trying to get out of it. #3 gotta have the finger pop. Really concentrate on using your finger tips on the underside of the disc to spin it and propel it forward. When those three steps are done and timed perfect, my putt feels so smooth and on point. The timing is what seems to make the most difference. Push off, pull disc, pop fingers. Each lagging behind the last one by half a second.
These are the exact cues I started using which really helped my putting (still not great). I can really feel when I get the lag right by the way the disc pops out more effortlessly.
something I’ve noticed is that if I slightly widen my stance and maybe have my feet about shoulder width apart or slightly less it’s a little easier for me to keep the disc on a straight line.
I think the weight shift tip is the best for you, where you rocked off of your front foot Lizotte style. I would just stick to that and get the timing down better. Also I wouldn't bring the disc down any lower than your waist in your downswing. If you raise your arm in front of you naturally, you'll notice that it likes to drift out to the right because it's the path of least resistance for your shoulder. That's where your "slice" is coming from. The "aim left/foot at 11 o'clock" tips are trying to address that in an "adjust for crooked sights" kinda way. Instead, create a swing that is more direct which is more back and forth instead of down and up. Bring your putter to your waist and then focus on swinging more forward instead of up, in sync with your body rocking forward. You may need to use more elbow break than you're used to.
Can’t wait til the next foundation video where Trevor is trying to balance on one foot for 10 seconds while focusing on a single chain
This might be a bit off-handed, but I use a soft disc and throw it like a dart by pressing my thumb on the inside of the rim and pinching it between my index and middle fingers on the outside.
Add the snap with your thumb, but if you do it incorrectly, it will hurt your elbow.
Ezra Aderhold put out a video last week about how he improved his putting quickly. One thing I took from it and already see a difference in my putting is precocking my wrist
Practicing both straddle and stagger stance evenly does wonders.
I like to line my 1st knuckle up with the pole, a chain or the edge of the basket, depending on how far away my putt is. As I bring my hand up to throw I kind of spin my wrist putting extra spin on the disc. Plus I use a Spin disc which is understandable so if I get enough pop on it, it flips up flat from hyzer.
Didnt know anyone did this except from Ezra Aderhold, but I lock in my pinky inside the rim. When I watched Uli and Lizottes video on putting, they were both doing it and I feel it gives me massive control
Have you seen the drill where you put a disc or traffic cone under your putting arm? Lead with the elbow. It’s a winner.
Trevor, try putting from a knee. It takes all the motion from your lower body out of the equation. You really don't need momentum from stepping into the putt from close range.(anything from 25 in) All it does is add extra moving parts to a motion that needs to be repeatable. I use it for practice or when things are not working at all during a tournament.
I would recommend making sure the disc is all the way against your palm and maybe putting your thumb closer to the rim while releasing flat and not with so much hyzer.
Any time you change your putt you will get worse at first. Putting is 90% muscle memory. Find something that feels good that you think you can duplicate, and do it for a week or more before saying if it is good or not. Almost any style can work with enough practice but a style that helps me is (note: all items can work together):
* putting flat and aiming at pole or link (don't try to aim right and hyzer toward chains)
* throw hard enough so putter doesn't deviates right to left much during flight (an understable putter makes this easier).
* don't let wrist bend back beyond straight even when popping or spinning,
* keep disc on line between eyes/center of body and target during entire throwing motion,
* don't short arm and follow through with hand towards target.
When my putting has felt bad I've always had to remind myself that the disc should fly when putting. Applying spin, aiming, weight shift, body position are all super important in a backhand, so just ask those same questions while putting.
My biggest improvement came with realizing ill almost always make the 15ish ft comeback. For the longest time i lobbed the disc like i was trying to make a ball in the basket. Always straight on but i would constantly either hit the top or the basket. Once i started just jamming it in i found myself making a lot more edge of circle putts
I am shocked Trevor. Mission accomplished. lol
Semi joking here, but also not. Paul Ulibarri’s instruction on putting in the Power Disc Golf Academy did wonders for my putt.
I don’t do it all the time. But when I do, they usually go in. Watch his circle one putting. It’s kinda awkward at first. But it works pretty well.
But you know what to do. Find a comfortable putt and practice. You got this!
At 3:27 security guard secretly judging 🤣
I've kinda noticed when you step up to your putt Trevor you're already leaning forwards. So I think you're not getting power (missing low) because your using mostly your arm and not as much your body's momentum. I've noticed when I remember to stand more upright it seems to be easier to get to the basket. Meaning I can put less effort into the putt (less arm) and just focus on aiming and spin. I know this is Internet advice so do with that what you will haha.
18:30 there’s your problem
“Very left aim” then throws completely right and hits the camera 😂
you still putt better than me do. keep it up brother
Yo Trev, I'm right there with ya. My Putt is actual garbage rn. Thoughts and prayers fam lol
another thing you can try is anhyzer like matt-o since you like throwing anhyzer
I really think you should try to think about initiating your putt with your elbow, not your hand. It basically goes elbow, back of hand toward basket, pop hand, shaking hands with the basket. If you look at the majority of pros they all do something similar to that, no matter what form. It creates lag, which then creates pop and spin.
You’ve got a hitch at the very bottom of your swing. You drop the disc a little lower at the very bottom as you are about to come forward and then your putt looks like it’s all arm. I’d widen the feet a little side to side and only bring it down to your belt buckle. I think that at least keeps you athletic and gives you some pop.
That is an incredible sweatshirt Trevor
I just started playing a few mounths ago so I'm not really sure that my advice is helpful for you. But, I decided when I started that I was going to learn to spin putt, and the biggest improvement for my aim was to stop aiming with the disc and aim with my wrist. More like I'm trying to throw my wrist at the basket and less throwing the disc at the basket. That might be just a different way of saying to aim left though, idk but it works for me. Also, I use the same putters as you, I love my Rainmakers. I was using Logic as my putter before I switched, maybe try those, a lot of people say they have more control with a beaded putter and it feels very similar to a Rainmaker. Idk, I'm sure you'll get it figured out. Is it possible for you to take a break from playing? Maybe getting all of this out of your head for a bit could be a bigger help than anything.
Ricky wysocki has said that he doesn't aim at a chain when he puts. He aims at the band of the basket because his putt drops. Just showing that adjusting your aim point can be very effective.
also...not good to practice putts on a slight downhill toward a basket. This promotes throwing down into the swing.
The hyper focus comment is close - it actually is called the ‘quiet eye method’ & is a well-known phenomenon for pro athletes that require fine motor control and aiming. There is a RUclips video about quiet eye exercise.. if your eyes are jumping around while putting, you won’t know where you are aiming and consequently you will be missing all over the place.
If you’re always going right aim a little left lol
Beginning of last season I went through the putting woes, during multiple tournaments I just forgot how to make putts, putting practice for me has always been really working techniques, but I'd also practice a few stradles just cause ya always need em, I wound up just overthinking my putt to the point it stopped working so I abandoned it for the better so my advice is just switch to straddles all the time!
Your plant leg goes peg straight before you even begin your putting motion. You can see it pop into place on almost every putt with your natural stance. That makes your timing and balance vary, which is probably part of the inconsistency. I'm guessing that's why you were better with one leg.
Trevor: "I can't get good at putting..." Also Trevor: "I never practice putting..."
just buy a signature disc. It will increase C1x by 20% instantly...;)
Bring the disc up and then at the pole. Wrist at a comfortable angle as close as you can get to a 90° finishing pushing your fingers of under the disc
On missing right with your wrist I found that I had to focus on making sure my arm extended before my wrist so the disc stays on the line longer. If you open your wrist too soon it starts to pull it right. So arm, wrist, then fingers. I also had to force myself to putt on anny to get myself to putt flat. I don’t think about putting on anny anymore but I no longer putt with hyzer.
I missed low a lot and something that helped me was keeping my chin up more and my shoulders/chest up more that why I’m not leaning over the putt too much.
I am in the same funk, I have the best drives I have ever had lately, but I have completely lost my putt and approach game, its crazy how everything I thought I knew is gone lol I was a spin putter but now I have no clue what I am doing.
After watching the video,, 1. practice. commit to at least 30 min/day for Jan and see where you're at after. 2. don't dismiss Gannon that easy. Watch his putting video on his channel. Pay attention to what he says to do with the fingers and also how he creates alignment with the basket. Don't worry about the pace of his putt, think about his mechanics.
Please answer my question! Why do you crouch so low when throwing? Right before you throw in your x step you crouch down super low. Jw
also pay attention to the weight of the disc in your hand and loosen the grip just alittle and relax the wrist
You’re athletic Trevor, be athletic. focus and dial in. curl your wrist a little more to get spin release flat to maybe a little hyper pick a link…. Or the pole and send it sometimes cocky is okay McBeth is the best because he know he’s the best. You got this Trevor you’re a beast best RUclips disc golfer
Go pro for the boys
Your frontal lobe developing observation made me snort. 😂
The follow through matters a whole lot and i think thats where you have the most issues. If you square your shoulders to the basket and reach down between your legs, your natural motion is to have the arm move to the right. Try turning your stance to the left more so when your arm swings down, its in a line with the basket the whole way instead of thinking of shaking hands with the pole at the end. The tip to turn your lead foot is trying to do that. You pulling the disc is what your putt should be, but i think you are lining up a little off. Since you have a camera, maybe stick the camera behind the basket so you can see the pole, then see if you arm is moving left to right
Putt through the basket. Philo’s idea of Shaking hands with the chain. You might miss a lot to begin with but like all skills you need reps.
not going full matty-o, but would you ever change how far you bring the disc down in the reach back?
Try out the Penrose. Great amount of glide and works great for the hyzer putt angle you typically release with. It holds straight really well and finds it's way to the basket🙌
That’s my putter! I improved greatly since using it
@@dudedecent8805 it's the best ever putter I have used! Been with it for about 2 years now
Can't believe you didn't try straddle. Straight up, straight down.
I like the hyper focus tip, but I think 4-8 sec is enough time to make the aim. I also believe that we sometimes over think our putts and forget that we are athletes and to just put the disc in the basket. Shortstops don't have to think through every detail before throwing to first they just trust their arm to do its job.
reps ingrain it to where it is reactive. Step up, look at the spot and throw. Not much thought needed.
