Honestly, I wouldn't entirely lose all hope with the 747 just yet. There are some airlines that still use the 747-8 and some even the 747-400. There is still a chance to fly among the queen.
Thank you, 747, you will always be in a special place in my heart, and in all the aviation geeks. Farewell, and thank you for your service. Like to say farewell to the aircraft~
As a former flight attendant for Lufthansa for 33 years, my most favorite aircraft has always been the 747. Even though a little less comfortable to work onboard as a flight attendant than the A340 or A330, my countless flights around the globe with the 747-200, 747-400 and the 747-8 will always be remembered!
My most favorite 747 was the 747-8(00). It was gorgeous to look at (from a “787 style” wings to every elongated fuselage + every angle like the banking angle with its gorgeous wings). Although I much prefer the -8 over the previous 747 and their variants, I won’t deny there is a quirks and features contained on that model (like the upper deck, the spiral staircase found in -100,-200, & SP, the upper deck emergency doors, the galley elevator (not the elevator on horizontal stabilizer), the crew rest area, and so much more). Edit: although I found the 747 in person (probably landing at DVO Rwy 05 for a long time ago, operated by PAL), I haven’t flew it before coz in the past, I’ve usually flew are just only A320’s (together with my relatives when there is a vacation or important things). Also, I don’t have a money and a job yet. Hopefully, I’m gonna fly with the 747 (alongside with the A380 & A340) for a right time before their retirement so I’ll have an experience on them.
My first 747 experience was at LHR as a plane spotter watching and hearing the awe inspiring BOAC 747's amongst others. Will never forget and much loved.
My Favorite 747 variant is the 747-400 i used to hear its roar when it flies over my house in the Philippines when Philippine Airlines used to operate the 747 400
I was a young engineer assigned to the fatigue stress analysis group of the 747 structures staff in 1967. We witnessed the rollout of the first 747, the "City of Everett", on September 30, 1968 and the first flight of the jumbo jet on February 9, 1969. These were very exciting times for the Boeing Company and for me especially since this is where I met a very special young lady. We were married and we have been together for over 52 years.
So happy to have tuned into the Livestream of this event from across the pond. John Travolta's apperance was an unexpected surprise. My wish now is to fly on a passenger carrying 747 before they're all withdrawn from service.
Thank you Mr Joe Sutter, the legend who created this masterpiece that transformed aviation forever. May your soul rest in peace and may the Queen of the Skies fly for many more years to come❤❤❤🙏🙏 🙏
To the designers, engineers, test pilots and every supporting staff no matter how small the input you put into this airplane, good job 👍, and well done 👍. Joe Sutter, Juan Trippe & Will Allen, legends in my book.
I have flown on the 747-100, 200 and 400 but the 747-8 is my favorite. I like the longer look (it's 11 ft longer than the A380) and the bigger engines.
I remember my grandad working on 747s at SFO for Flying Tigers Airfreight in the 1970s and 1980s. I loved those silver beasts and I was allowed to roam around one while being serviced in the FT hangar. Good times. RIP, grandpa.
My favorite variant of the 747 is the -8. Not popular but my #1 favorite. I'll miss the 747. Truly is an "End of an Era." We'll all never forget the 747. I'm glad Joe Sutter designed this plane, he'll never be forgotten as well. Joe, you'll Forever be Incredible, and your plane, will forever be the Queen of the Skies.
I was very lucky to have the great pleasure and honour to have flown the Boeing 747. I managed to fly the 200,200F,300,300M,400, 400BCF and 400F. A fantastic aircraft, thank you all at Boeing for designing and building such a great machine. Retired airline pilot.
When I worked in aerospace, our offices were on Century Blvd with a 4th floor rooftop viewing of LAX's north runway which, because of length and structural integrity, was the only side for landing 747s. So much larger than other aircraft, it was thrilling to watch them float back to Earth. I also used to park at a residential high point during lunch break to watch the heavily laden, low-lying 747 strain to thunder off over the Pacific to the West, on its way to London everyday at about 12:30. Because of noise pollution, all of the expensive homes from the end of LAX runways all the way out to Dockweiler State Beach have now been removed, and the area fenced off for security reasons. Those were the days, my friends !!!
54 years of running in the production line, first wide body. revolutionised long haul, high capacity air travel, served in all fronts from passenger, to cargo, military, fire fighting and so on. It will always be the one and only Queen of the Skies
747SP. My dad told me that was because they named it after me SP are my initials. I have been lucky to have even flown on a Qantas 747SP upper deck as well.
Long live the Queen! My dad flew on a Wardair B747-100 to Hawaii in '80 and '81 and enjoyed the parties up in the upper deck. I went out of my way to fly on a Qantas B747-400 LAX - Brisbane in 2016. Best flight ever!
I only got to fly on a (Virgin) 747-200 from Gatwick to Orlando and back the one time. I was so excited arriving at the departure gate to see the beauty at the end of the walkway
I guess your first flight will always be the most remembered, B737sp. Have flown on -2/3/4 and sp and have worked on said variants for 31 years. Lucky enough to have worked on the very first aircraft I ever flew on aged 10 at age 21
30 years ago, dozens of 747s were getting ready for evening trans-Pacific and intra-Asia flights at Tokyo Narita Airport. What a magnificent sight it was.
I saw one yesterday take off from Orlando International. One of the few times I've seen one, but never that close. Absolutely majestic machines. Really sad that they're ceasing production.
Cya, Queen of the Skies. My favourite varient has to be the -300. It's probably the loudest cargo jet to still operate at Australian airports when Singapore Airlines Cargo flies them in.
I never got to fly in one (I hope to do so in the future); but I experienced them in Flight Sims. My favorite variants are the 747-200B, 747-400, 747-400F, 747-400ER, 747-400ERF, 747-8I, and the 747-8F. The 747 will live on! Fly on Queen! May all of you remaining serve well, Cargo or Passenger, whatever airline that owns you. I give a toast to Joe Sutter and "The Incredibles" for giving us this marvel of engineering and Aviation. Thank you!!
I've flown on the 747-400 and -8i with Lufthansa. They even let me visit the flight deck once! I'm sure they'll be operating their 747s, especially -8i's for many years to come.
Maybe in imagining it but i can hear a certain sadness in the voice of the presenters in comparison to other videos, understandable as this a sad day in the world of aviation
The last time I flew the Queen of the skies was with KLM 747-400 Combi from Amsterdam to Toronto…even though the interior was very outdated in comparison to the 787-9 which I flew right before it from Dubai to Amsterdam. Nonetheless I enjoy the B747-400 flight more. I have so many good memories of that plane…such a shame to see it stopped being produced. End of an era indeed 😔
For right now it's the 400er, the first and only 747 variant I flew on with British Airways from Gatwick into Dar es Salam with a stop over in Kampala. Will soon try out the 747-8i.
I like both 744 and 748, mainly because 744 was the most abundant and 748 looks really elegant. I have flown on 744s of British Airways (my first ever flight), Philippine Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines (upper deck economy). Recently I revisited my old photos and found that my last trip on a 747 was from Sapporo to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific in 2012. The chances of riding the rare 747-8i seem very slim for me.
I recall I boarded the Boeing 747-200 if I remember correctly back in 1995 from Avianca which flew from New York JFK Airport to Bogota, Colombia 🇨🇴 which I still have pictures till this date.
I think my first flight on a 747 was from Sydney to Singapore on a BA 747-200B. I've also flown on the Qantas 747-SP and 747-400. I flew on a Cathay 747-400 from Paris to Hong Kong landing in Kai Tak. Bucket list item completed was top deck business class on one of the last Qantas 747-400 flights between Haneda and Sydney. I'll miss the 747 but there will be other memorable flights on other aircraft!
Thanks for the video. Boeing 747 will always be remembered as an incredibly stylish, huge, powerful aircraft. My favorite versions are the 'incredibly popular' (as you rightly pointed out at the end of the video) Boeing 747-400 and the latest Boeing 747-8i. On the contrary, I never really liked the short SP version, and rather felt that they should have never built it, since it diluted the image of Boeing-747 - the large, stylish aircraft.
I highly miss the the KLM 747-400 that used to operate to IAH. Sadly in 2017 KLM ended its 747-400 operations to IAH. It was very devastating because in United and Delta retired the 747-400s that same year. I never really got to enjoy the 747-400 due to family issues and being to far away from IAH. However I still have 1 memory of the KLM 747-400 taking off out of IAH doing a very sharp turn over a Starbucks over on 1960 Humble Rd near US-59S. I remember asking my self why does it have blue on top. That's when I conducted my first ever research and found out it was a KLM 747-400. The KLM was the first ever aircraft I have ever identified. But sadly my family and I never traveled much because we were poor. With the future of aviation I won't be traveling by air much.
End of an era. Thanks for all the memories, 747. You will forever be remembered as the Queen of the Skies.
