All i did with my iMac and MacBook pro was use Finder and then select the "size" column to give a decending order list of applications or videos or photos with the largest files at the top!
Then check which ones you want to delete to save space or move them to an attached drive to clear space for the upgrade.

go to system preferences select apple id logo top right select icloud, uncheck the NEWS item so it is not "background updated", otherwise its dragging performance down. That alone has speeded up all the applications to similar performance as before!

I installed a program from Mac paw called cleanmymac which does all the processes you went through such as cleaning system junk restoring and repairing mac permissions removing malwares cleaning caches freeing Ram uninstalling unwanted apps updating softwares
and many more ..yet the way you suggest is far more secure and efficient... thanks for the video ...it is very instructive...vest regards.

I finally figured out the problem with my mac after upgrading to big sur. I went into disk utility and found out that there were two Macintosh HD Data drives (there is only supposed to be one), and the second one was filled with old system junk. Once I erased and unmounted the second Macintosh HD Data drive my mac is finally running fast like before. I tried everything in all the videos, nothing worked except for this. I hope it helps someone!

@@SuzysDecoratingChannel Thank you! I was just reading somewhere & remember seeing something that said that's just the new way it displays. I'm not sure if it actually does anything though. Thats the thing being it is a bigger~smaller file. Just hung up on that.

@@OrcinusLaryngologist Hi Orca, honestly I really do not know, as I did this over a year ago I cannot remember all the details. Please read some more information on it so you do not make any mistakes. This method worked for me, but ultimately I decided to purchase a new Mac because my old one was very slow on big sur. Deleting the file helped a bit, but it was still slow. I believe it would work like before if I downgraded ios but I just haven't got the time to do that now and it's been collecting dust. Best of luck!

Did you follow all the steps in this video?
A free application you can download from the App Store called Etrecheck is really good for diagnosing these kind of problems. Additionally, you'll need to check if the trim is turned on your SSD.

noufeer mk just follow the instructions on screen.
There’s a drop down menu that will ask about what you want to have checked.
After you select a specific problem, (I recommend “just checking”) run the test and have a look at results. You’ll have to google the specific problems you find in order to figure out a solution.

There are many components to speeding up Macs. One place I discovered which successfully combines these is the Mels Speed Method (google it if you're interested) definately the most helpful resource that I've heard of.look at the extraordinary info .

The best way to speed it up is now to update the software to the latest version which is 11.2.3

Abhishek sh it could be another bar of RAM is needed to make it up to 8gb?
Also try backing up all your documents and apps and do a clean install of Catalina.
If after this it’s still slow it could be your MacBook is thermal throttling what means the built in CPU needs it heat sink removed and the old thermal paste to be removed and replaced with new.

@@MattTalkTech I have the same computer, but I added 4GB rum when I bought it (so I have 8GB rum in total)... I use many softwares to work (like Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign) and I am moving to another country, so I decided to clean everything (curating my documents, photos, etc) and reset my computer as "new" and installing Catalina.. Before that the computer was working fine, and I was expecting it to work at least the same way, however it is really really slow, I don't know why - I meant REALY SLOW, even to type the message here on RUclips it gets stuck... Do you have any idea how can I fix it?
