- A day in the life of a software engineer. This is a typical day in my life as a full stack software engineer in London. I did skip through some meetings though. This was my first ever vlog. Note: I filmed the first coding part when my colleagues were not in office yet. Happy to answer any software engineering questions. More tech vids to come in the future

Thank you :D
This was really well put together, especially for a first vlog. As someone currently in the states and in tech/IT, working in tech and London is a literal dream of mine!
Thank you! The states is cool too, silicon valley
This is one of the best a day in life of SE videos. Your video inspired me, a SE Student a lot thanks for sharing your life. If you can make more video like this that would be great!
Nguyễn Lê Chi Bảo thank you 😊 will try to soon
I’m studying on being a Software engineer too. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Awesome, all the best, thanks :)
Finally found the right day in the life of a SWE video, I see stack overflow window
Haha, stack overflow to the rescue
That Office has a Lot of natural light. It must be a better environment if compared to some offices that I've seen before
Yup, also the windows open like doors xD
I first saw this video when I was in 9th grade, and I loved the work you were doing. It inspired me so much that I decided to become a software engineer. Five years later, after completing 12th grade and without pursuing a degree, I'm now working as a full stack developer. This video is the reason behind my journey. You truly changed my life, buddy!
That is awesome! I hope you are enjoying it, since this video, most companies allow you to work remotely now - which is another plus
Thanks for watching all! Moved to a window desk and Part 2 is out: ruclips.net/video/fMUhzoyyVyc/видео.html

An anime fan working as a software engineer watching Black Clover after office workhours with anime merchandise all over his home - Kinda amazing how there are people like us all over the world.
Great video! You should upload more videos like this! Thanks for sharing your day with us!
Carlos Méndez thank you, will try to 😊
Black Clover!! You're a man of culture
Great Video!
One of my fav animes :D Thank you!
Beautiful campus you've got there. It's a lot less corny than ours, which is full of ping pong tables and motivational sayings. It seems like corporate environments are the same, geared for a certain age group they feel they have a handle on, as though everyone suffers from conformity. Your's looks pleasant and not projecting stereotypes ("culture") on to the engineers.
Todd Boothbee thanks, yup its not like a corporate environment, its very casual here and yup it depends where you work, as almost all companies are getting in house software engineers
That breakfast look amazing man 🔥🔥🔥 softwares ppl always get the best Food ! Gotta love the tech life!
Dude, when I was taking an IT class in like Year 8, I used scratch and was asked to make two orange balls bounce of each other. Done. Then with 3, done that too. Our teacher said to make 10 balls that are orange, to bounce of each other. I used the colour in order to make them all bounce and was praised as no one else could figure it out. Now I’m studying my bachelors degree in Data Science, dream big, wish me luck
Kro Nice, they introduce coding early now in school and that is a good way to get into programming. Data science is cool, all the best 👍🏼
Rayscafe and all the best to you in your career good sir! Never know, might change my mind when doing my masters and take up the software engineering route. Only time will tell
@@SozeSR Thank you! Nice, yes you never know, I might take up data scientist role too
Cool story Kro! I am in my 7th semester of Computer Science bachelor's degree :D
Adis Tutorials You planning to work with code too?
Hoping to be working like this too
I’m only 2nd year in school (year 9 equivalent) and I choose my classes in April (currently December)
Nice, that's good you are thinking ahead already
Rayscafe I actually was told that it was January instead of April
You're dead dude. You can't go to school neither can you ever hold employment. Sorry to break it to you.
8:30 and you’re the first one there? We start at 6:30 in the morning sometimes so we can go home early :)
I am usually second first haha, most of my colleagues start at 10. What time do you go home?
Thanks for showing us. Me too is a software engineer from India. We love our profession.
Thank you for watching, yep we do

Black Clover is life.
Yup, too epic
Nah its trash
I am also a computer engineering student and you motivated me a lot love from india bro ❤️
Nice! Thank you
You should definitely make more videos about software developer life
Thank you :)
Software Engineer*, please don't use the terms as if they were synonyms. I am coming off like a total jerk right now, it just ticks me off that in 2020 the word "engineer" has lost all of its meaning because programmers and coders think that all an engineer does is program. I don't mean to sound annoying, sorry about it! xD
WoW, you are a developer and still have a quite nice routine :) I am a freelancer developer, i dont get time for such relaxation / roaming :)
Thank you :), I try to finish all my tickets fast xD
@@Rayscafes most welcome ;) actually i work alone on multiple projects of every size thats why my routine is so hard .
@@codeworked ahh thats why, I focus on at most 2 projects at a time, but there are usually another dev or two who could be taking some of the workload.

Great Video Mate! I'm Also a fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge And Part time in Goldsmiths, University Of London. But I must say that Uni Doesn't matter, Knowledge is, But problem is No one's gonna ask you if you don't have a degree to show, Specially Competitive Countries like India. Btw Great Video! Loved it, and Subscribed!
Omsamir Dash Thank you 😊 yup, thats correct, as long as you study outside of uni lectures
Nice bro, may u get more success. Can you please tell me that after learning a programming language, when are you able to effectively write code that actually suits the standard of market?
Thank you! You will need to keep learning while you are working, starting from a Junior position where you will be supervised by Senior software engineers who will help you write efficient code. Almost all companies do unit tests on their code now to ensure that the code base will be easier to debug if there are bugs. The unit tests helps by pinpointing where in the code it went wrong, etc.
I like the amount of natural light coming into your office floor. In the factory where I work, it is like a dark cave with zombies working in it
Dang, you should move near a window
The time of that building is correct twice a day :)
haha I get it :)
Actually its never correct because it keeps changing, but its not at the proper time.
somehow good than other videos of this kind

I'm a junior high school student and I want to be a software engineer, any tips or advice for what should I prepare and learn?
1st choose language learn basics, of programing practice on your own. Then go to more comprehensive stuff learn web technologies. And crete It's really fun. I do not work as software enginieer. I work as QA automation enginieer and trust me that fun when I first time wrote piece of code which were doing something it was so fun so I have started to learn more. Wrote spam bot which used to spam internal chat application at my university. I was going further and now I am developing auted tests mostly in Selenium and Cucumber. It's enjoyable and I get paid for it. :)
PS:Take part in public projects, search for them on reddit or stack overflow to learn code with other persons on the same code :)
@@RohanPL You could try different programming languages at first and choose which one you find interest in. It will depend on what kind of software you want to build.
@@Rayscafes What language do you think I should learn first?
@@adjiewafi3329 Python would be a great starter
Nice video. What's the prospect for software engineers in England? In my country, Indonesia, we have lots of new tech startups appearing. Do you guys have the same tech culture in England?
Thanks, its great, there are opportunities here. There is even something similar to Silicon Valley but smaller, called Silicon roundabout (East London tech city) and we have quite a lot of WeWork offices around London with hundreds of tech startups. Yup so it is similar.
@Pote de Feijão I studied computer science for 3 years + a year of full-time work in the IT industry in between my second year of uni, where I worked as an IT infrastructure analyst before I graduated.
Full stack .net, python, javascript and java developer here, and a young entrepreneur of software house. Greeting from Malaysia 🙌
Jack TK bro how much effort i have to do to become effective java developer?
@@TipCrafter its all about how passionate you are learning towards programming, any languages. Are you willing to invest yourself, time and money into learning? I have only 3 years of working experience before become an entrepreneur, i invested a lot to my self. I learned many other languages especially Python, frameworks etc. To become an effective java developer, first what you to do is to find yourself a solution, that fit you and where you actually lacked at. Good luck.
Jack TK nice
Wow nice! A lot of cool languages there.
I have been studying web development online for 8 months so far, I’m looking for a entry level position to start with. What is your background?
Nice, I went straight into a Junior Software Engineer role right after graduating with a Computer Science Degree. You should be able to get a Junior role, do personal projects too, it helps.
Your video is helpful for us
Thank you :)

Great video. Dude, I’m from Colombian and I would definitely love to work in London. My question is, is it difficult to find a job there? For a foreign guy
Thank you! Nope, there are a lot of international developers from around the world in London. All the best
😌 So is there any good app or web to find a job in there? Or how can I start looking for a job 👀
Andres Eraso yep, LinkedIn is the best at the moment
To get a job in London you need first to get.a working visa. To get a work visa you need to be sponsored by your prospective employee. This is the tricky bit. It is much more easy to hire someone.from the UK or European Union than an overseas employee. Still sometimes you get interviews but has more to do with this inclusion and equal opportunities thing that is used by companies to show they are a great place to work. Besides only a handful of companies can sponsor your visa. There must be a shortage of skilled labour in a particular area to justify an overseas recruitment. If you manage to convince the company to hire you, you will discover your visa is bound to your work. That is, if you want to switch jobs then you need to find a new employer with the capability of sponsoring a new visa for you. This part is also tricky because it opens the doors to exploitation and abuses as employers know you can not show them the middle finger in case the work relationship sours. While you are working there you belong to them. If for some reason the contract expires, soon you will get a letter from the home office saying you must live the country in 14 days. Once you go back home, you are not allowed to pursue a new job opportunity after one year. How do I know? I spent 5 years of my life living in Manchester. And I am forgetting. London is uber-expensive. A room in a shared house will cost you from 800 pounds per month.
@@ProfesorMamelowsky why you are not allowed to pursue a job after one year?
Nice share and it looks great to work besides the Covent Garden!!
Are these meals offered by your employer?
Thank you, nope the meals we pay for ourselves but I believe the cost is slightly reduced.
@@Rayscafes Good for you!! Awesome workplace and the surroundings :)

Get up too early to get to before work gym session. Half an hour at work go for English fry up. Code alone all morning, have great fry up lunch, code alone afternoon. Maybe skip the fry ups, and stay in bed another half an hour. Great workplace, but where are all your colleague's? A strange, but pleasant life. What happens when you are fifty, and like most others still have made that fortune for coding for someone else.

PHP rocks! 👍 I should have moved to the UK 10 years ago when I was younger, now I'm pretty much stuck in Poland... is it still feasible and worth moving after brexit ?
Yes man, using php8 now. Yup, it is still feasible, most companies allow remote workers now also
@@Rayscafes cool! Wouldn't use php8 in high availability production environments yet though, just for fun , too many potential security and performance risks 🙂
What to learn first
1. Web development?
2. App development?
Web development, it is more common to start with :)
nice video mate!!! Just one questions, LOL, I'm curious, is your job near to the Apple Store? because of the building at the 2:38 minutes, seems to be the market near there! I'm looking forward to getting back to work in London, miss it very much! cheers mate!
Thank you! Yup it is, I can see it from my desk :D
Rayscafe hahaha cool! For which company do you work for? I’ll apply to work there! Haha maybe we can be mates! 🙌🏻
Enjoyed watching your video. People always say "developing is googling, copying and pasting, searching stackoverflow" but what I want to know is how does the original guy know what to do to be able to post help on things like stackoverflow. Say for e.g a devloper wants to create something thats never been done before, because its never been done before he cant google or search stack overflow, how the hell do they end up making it??
Nope, usually I use stackoverflow only to see different solutions to a problem and write my own code using it as reference. They will plan everything out and stackoverflow will help with parts of the software (e.g. errors) they are building.
How do you stay awake without coffee in the afternoon?
I drink tea instead haha, usually matcha
Covent Garden worked there 2018-4.10.2019 busy area not suitable for any programming businesses I was working with fashion brand

50 minutes including changing clothes, showering and traveling to work? I call that bullshit mate
update 1: You work on a ticket and after 20 minutes you go get the breakfast? Why on earth don't you get breakfast first so you don't loose focus later?!

Being a software engineer. Does it matter if you're a sociable person or not? Because, I'm currently learning python right now and I want to be a software developer someday, because I love coding. But I am a very shy person when it comes to socializing with other people...especially in foreign countries as I don't speak english that good cause its not my first language..and the reason why I am very shy is because I have been bullied in my elementary days..and that really affected me growing up. So, does it matter if you're sociable or not? Because all I really wanted is to work. Haha. I do love people tho and I really wanted to socialize and have many friends.. but I just cant stop my shyness...and If I do socialize..it will be so awkward..as I don't know what to say.
Hmm, not really, but it is good to have good communication with your team. You will get used to it once you are settled in with your team. I am sort of an introvert too.
