Hey guys look, its actually a "day in the life of a software developer" that is actually realistic, they actually work, they joke around (while they are working), they take a break for lunch, and they work some more which is supprising to me considering all these interns keep uploading videos on how their day consists of 19 breaks to lay down, play games, coffee, and what not

interesting to see how they do it at Amazon. I work in a small webdev company and we do it very similar. My day looks like this: 9:00 start work by checking emails, chats, see if something very important happend 9:30 do the job, if something important came up, do this first, if not, continue the job from day before. 10:00 /at monday: meeting for planning the week 11:45 daily meeting (except mondays) telling everyone what I am doing 12:00 - 13:00 lunch break 13:00 - coding.. 14:00 (one a week) retrospective meeting 15:00 - 18:00 coding What I hate about my job are all the meetings and forced break.. I am not hungry at 12:00 and I don't need 1h break... my brain shuts down at 14:00 - 16:00 and I am not really able to concentrate/code.. this is the time I would love to take a break. 30 minutes.. Not 1h at 12:00.. where I am still highly functional. 15 minutes nap at 15:00 works wonders for me, better than caffeine
I'll raise you doing programming in the middle of a trading floor - being constantly interupted by people 70 people shouting all day, swearing at you, asking you questions, making you explain things, having to get on a phone call to explain how something works to an external client, having to both project manage, code and design everything yourself, have your boss/co-workers/random people you've never met claim your work is theirs, having to game the stack ranking system, having to work from 7:30am til 8pm with an hour commute each way, no lunch break. Being paid 10% of the money I made almost made it worth it, but not quite
Is it worth having a few million dollars when you never have a minute of free time to spend it? It's a golden jail cell really. I just need to quit. I'm thinking about hanging it all up after christmas and opening a STEM center or maker-space so I can go back to being a hobbyist, when life was fun.
The work environment seems pretty chill. I recommend using hub for that laptop and adding an external keyboard, mouse etc. I wouldn't stand working on internal keyboard. I envy you this adjustable desk, that's what's missing at my workplace. Cheers
I'm in-between keyboards. Kinda ending relation ship with the old one, trying out what's there... But so far only one-night stands. You know. Almost ready to settle for something serious soon.
I always look at my calendar first before checking emails because you could have a meeting in the calendar which is like 30 minutes after you get to work. And you could miss the meeting if you’re busy reading emails and miss the meeting alert.
