Just starting to get back into the radio hobby after many years now, and as I’m now laid up for a bit after my first knee replacement I’ve found myself watching all your vids! Great job!
Thank you Eric ! I had just about forgotten how much fun radio really is, so after watching a couple of your radio videos, I hooked up a couple old cbs in the garage and an old Yaesu vx-170. I 'm already having fun with it again. Have a great Christmas up there !!!
Hi, Eric. Cool Radio, I'm with you, I would like the TalkBack and roger beap . Back in the 80s I had a Midland radio tweeked and peaked, roger beap and TalkBack installed. Had it in the Large Car.Talking Loud and Proud all over the Midwest . Not to mention Oklahoma ! Good video! Thanks 10-4
That’s a very impressive radio in a small frame . I wish they would do these features on a modern Cobra 29 and bring it out of the dinosaur age . But I guess that’s why they still call it Cobra 29 Classic . Of all the radios I own and used over the years , I have a couple older 29’s that’s been upgraded by a very good tech , and they’ve always been my favorite and have a very unique sound that can’t be reproduced . Just my opinion . Great to see you on the air today , have a great weekend and a blessed week . 73’s from Middle Tennessee 🇺🇸
The Cobra 29 is a icon in the industry, but I do wish Cobra would wake up and start coming up with some cool new tech. I also want to see President come out with a new Base. I know its a long shot, but man, a modern Base with a decent price would be killer!
Eric, I wish you had done a little more on your description of SWR on this radio. That tone allows you to stay at the antenna and hear the result of the changes you make. You no longer meed to get back into your rig to check the VU meter. The sould tells it all.
Yes and it now contains FM. It does not contain weather alert. Their is now a brand new FM CB band. The weather selector switch is now a mode selector switch.
Nice rocket stove! Good to see a radio with decent features like power and Hi-cut I just learned how to install a Hi-cut circuit in pretty much any radio, I put it on my channel but I'll probably make a more detailed video of it later. Adding features like that could net extra income on ebay, especially with how pricey they are getting on fees and taxes. Have a good day!
John Dean I have a very low mileage HR 2510 I literally just had tuned and aligned and I put it back in the closet , waiting till spring to set it up as a base station inside . I’ve used it quite a bit , and I never knew it had variable power ? Honestly I never really took the time to learn all its functions on that top left side . It confused me , but I’ll get online and figure it out . I’m glad I read your post though , thanks !
@@Dallas-Rife-UDX-347-Tennessee who did your alignment im looking for a good tech to restore a grant for me. All of a sudden one day lol i grabbed the wrong power cord and plugged it in and instantly realized i dropped the ball. Got the radio back working but sounds funny on am great on sideband and has 11 volts on the final and cant set the driver and final bias for some reason.
@@Dallas-Rife-UDX-347-Tennessee i didnt know mine had variable pwr for awhile either a 2pill let me know one day. It became a no pill. In normal mode am or whatever swr cal is rf power. And switches to swr reading when in cal or swr. Also has green display which looks factory and a fan on the heatsink. Only one i have ever owned yours may be different but worth checking out. Also look into chipswitch for yours.
They no longer make it with weather alert now comes with FM. Check out the new McKinley. It contains AM/ the new FM band and ssb. It should be available around mid January 2022.
That RF power is also used to turn down your output for talking to people who are only a few blocks or a few houses away. You don't need full power to talk to people close by, so by turning down your power, others a little farther off can use the channel at the same time without being walked on. Or if there are several people that are very close together talking on different channels they can turn down their power so they don't bleed over on each other. And phased locked loop is more susceptible to bleed over then Crystal control radios, especially on every fourth channel. At least that's the way it was on older radios.
Boring and irritating beep. Some have the ability to change the sound to a beach, fart, crowing or some other stupid and childish noise. Rodger beep was designed to be used on ham radios and side band so the people on the receiving end would know when the other person had stopped transmitting. It's useless on a.m. and hated by many people. Experienced radio operators don't need it on side band or ham radio anyway because they know when the other person stops talking. People get used to either speaking or making verbal noises to indicate that they are still transmitting and when those vocalisations or noises stop is the time that they've unkeyed their mic, so that you can start talking. lots of people get used to quick keying just like they do on a.m. to keep people from breaking in on their conversation. On A.M. they can even overlap their carriers a little bit. Some people, like me, will not converse with people who use noise makers.
Heads up any one purchasing this radio. The weather alert feature is no longer available. The weather receive board has been replaced with a FM transmit board for the new 6 channel FM band. The weather select switch is now a mode selector switch. In FM the radio only transmits and receives in the new 6 channel FM band. It starts at 27.435 and end at 27.535. Their may have been 7 or more extra channel squeezed in. The new radios begin shipping December, 29, 2022. You can use FM starting December 31, 2021 at midnight.

They have been discontinued and may not be available anymore. All new cb radios sold in the US must contain the new 6 channel Possible a couple of more squeezed in FM band. Only transmits and receives FM in FM mode.
No it is in the service menu. Also it does not contain weather alert anymore. It have been replaced with a mode selector switch and contains the new FM band.
Death to irritating noises! And that reminds me not only Browning golden eagles make that pinging sound. Almost any two piece radio can do that. It's a momentary feedback between the time when the transmitter and receiver are creating a feedback noise through the speaker. Buddy radios also did that but they were not very common radios. The ping is also one of those irritating noises that can be added to any radio as a noise toy unfortunately! The ping on the two piece radios can be avoided if the operator so desires.
Yes and now FM no longer weather alert. It has been discontinued. President may release a new Model in the future with the weather alert added. To comply with the new Part 95 Class D regulations they had to replace the weather alert with FM.
Hello. There is a scan function. As on some of the presidents you just have to press the up button on the mike for a moment and the scan starts. Its the same with the jackson II. Most of the kind of "vintage style" models do that. And of course they just look to be older models. The "more modern looking" presidents (like my Grant II) have a special button for the scan.
I do like your videos, I don't have any CB radios but enjoy your close ups, it encourages me to do a few more close ups on my channel

Yeah I would love to see a new Uniden or President base myself !!
Great great radio. The swr check setup on it is slick
There are a few other President radios that now offer this feature and I agree it is really nice. No learning curve needed!
Farpoint Farms I have a Richard & a Ronald. I really like them and get good compliments on both.

I didn't really understand it when I filmed it, but it's pretty cool!
I wish they would make this style radio with ssb, the McKinley is nice but I like the style of the Walker much better!
The "Classic look" I agree.
What a neat radio. It’s like a CB radio with a FRS/GMRS walkie talkie features and displays and stuff.

Why use a CB without sidebands?
Good question, unless sideband is against your religion. AM purist.😉😁
True, I dont buy any radios without SSB. If there are more channels/capabilities to have, I want them!
If all you want is channel 19 for the highway. But I see your point, I'm an SSB guy, too.
mine is getting delivered as i type. cant wait.
You should have waited. The new ones now are coming with FM. They no longer contain the weather alert function.
My auto squelch on my 2510 is the best thing. I like the rf power variable. My 2510 rf variable is on the swr calibration. Good vid!

It. Might just be me but I don't trust any built-in swr metering...
I'm the same way. It's nice to have, but I always recheck with a actual SWR meter.
