- President has been selling the "Cobra 29 Killer" AKA: The President Walker II for years now. I've run one in my Toyota T100 for ages. Well, it looks like they have come out with the Improved Walker III that now includes the option for FM mode! I had the chance to check one out, and as you can see it's clearly a great radio in every way!

You need to try FM on your President Lincoln down on 26.805 FM.. Also wish you could do a review on the Anytone 6666 radio . Also feel free to check out my Group " The Original FM Calling Channel 26.805 " if you join us 3000 members strong
Do you need a ham general class for that frequency?
No SSB
When is the McKinley FM SSB model being launched in US?
McKinley or this model upgraded to SSB is my hold out.
I feel like the bus needs a SSB radio so I'd put the walker in the Beetle...but it would be a great addition to any car or base station. Thanks for taking the time to show this to us!
Thanks for the support- you all have good points on where to put it.
I haven’t had a cb in 25 years. About a month ago for some reason my interest got peaked and I’ve been watching lots of videos about what’s new in radios. I was a cobra 29 user but I’m really liking the president radios. Thinking about picking up a president bill and putting it in my work truck.
I have both the Bill and Bill II, the each have gotten good reports.
Yeah, I heard that President Bill is a smooth talker. Better watch the wife.
Makes me wonder if they'll release a President Joe: Forgets every setting and channel on the radio :)
...or a President Trump. It promises to give you nationwide CWP reciprocity but gives you a bumpstock ban, instead.
😳
Im holding out for the President Trump. 👍
I think GOD Jesus has been reminding about the 1970's n the 80's CB RADIOS life... this time is for GRID DOWN COMING SOON ☹️🙏
Originally from the UK the CB sets are FM which CB became legal in 1981. I am old enough to say that before the legalization we had a lot of AM sets imported in from the US radio's like the General Electric, Stalker, Colt, President and Cobra. Personally I prefer FM after using both modes my personal opinion is because we are not in the peak of the use of CB unlike 30-40 years ago while CB is doing the job on AM users will stick to AM. I am hoping not because the Walker 3 looks a great piece of kit for the $$.. Thanks for sharing Eric
With the beefy heatsinking I's suspect the PA is putting out more wattage and I'm wonder if there are any extended frequency mods for it to be used on 10 meters?
I really want to replace my Cobra 29LX in my truck. All I use it for is chan 19 while i'm driving but the weather function is also nice to have. I can't seem to be able to reach further than a couple of miles no matter what antenna I used, i've tried 3 different ones with no real change. I know 19 is a major noise maker so maybe that has to do with it but I want to be able to talk/hear a bit further. Do you think this radio would solve the issue or can you recommend something to try? Also can you advise using FM in real world... useful or waste of money?
FM is new, so it's use at this time is somewhat limited. That said, I wouldn't invest in a new radio without one. The Walker III is a great Cobra 29 alternative!
I would like to see a CB radio with 10 meter AM, FM, SSB, CW and 75-100 watts on 10 Meter.. !
That would be a one and done- not need to sell anything else if it had all that
FRS & GMSR are dominant on the west coast, not so much CB anymore.
I saw that uniden is coming with the bearcat 880 with fm. makes me think the 980 with fm will follow that since they are pretty similar. i'm holding out for the 980 or the mckinley to have am/fm/ssb for a base radio
Great video, as always! That said, it looks like President dropped the ball once again by omitting CTCSS/DCS from its FM-capable CB radios. WHY????
The Randy II omitted this highly desirable feature while the Randy III (Euro model) has it. Does President think it's USA customers are stupid and incapable of operating CTCSS/DCS? Does President think that I really need yet one more device that picks up NOAA Weather (in addition to ham, FRS, GMRS, my toilet paper holder, toaster, and everything else) rather than something that would keep the receiver quiet while listening for family, friends, or business associates?
Did President hire some of the thoughtless design engineers that work in Midland's GMRS section?
Why?
Cobra 148 GTL - DX was a good radio with FM made by Cobra
Export model right?
I vote for keeping it in the shed. That way when you have the urge to check FM, you don't need to go out to a vehicle.
good point
I want a president McKinley with ssb and fm
Yes, the President Wa*ker is not an SSB radio. Folks will have to look elsewhere for a multimode.
Ooooohhh baby! I likes it! If President drops a McKinley II with SSB that will truly be the end-all-be-all killer radio that will put everybody else out of business. President can just take my money at this point.
Maybe President is reading the comments and will take note.
How about suggesting a "common frequency/channel" for FMers to gather on and test performance???
I'd love for channel 1 to be the FM station.
@@FarpointFarms Ok! Let's get some voting going on !
Chan 1 I vote YES!
That's SO239 for the antenna. The rules about outlawing the handheld devices doesn't include radios if you read the full explanation
Good to know!
I haven't used a CB since I bought a home PC in 1994 but I used to fix them and rewire mics for people because there was no standard wiring pattern from brand to brand. FM sounds great but has less range than AM or SSB because it doesn't hug the ground. I'm happy to learn FM finally made its way to CB radios. Should have happened long ago. We used to convert 10 meter ham rigs so they could cover the CB band resulting in an all-band 35 Watt CB/ham rig. The best radio I had was the Ranger 2950 which I modified to add CB. I had an Antron antenna 60+ feet in the air on the peak of my 2 family house which was as tall as a telephone pole. During the day I could reach from Burlington Ontario to Corfu NY. At night the world was my oyster. Many thought I had a linear amp but I was using 35 watts 63 feet in the air. A tall antenna with no big hills nearby is such a huge factor it can't be stressed enough.
@@Bhoffman0110 I'm not an expert but I learned in college ages ago that AM hugs the ground and FM does not.
@@wsbill14224 It is just like broadcast radio. Am stations can get out 100s of miles with their 10000 watt amps where Fm stations are lucky to get 60 miles with a 25000 watt amp.
Well, duh, you DO have an amp, it is just not external. You're running 8 times the power of a stock cb
@@Bhoffman0110 I was referring to AM broadcast radio. (530-1600 kHz) It hugs the ground because it's frequency is so low. Citizens band is 27 MHz so it doesn't hug the ground. I'm getting old but behavior of radio waves hasn't changed in my lifetime. If I said anything to the contrary I made a mistake, but then again maybe you don't read very well. I never said FM hugs the ground because I know it bounces like a ping pong ball because there is no low frequency FM.
Just watched your cobra 29 night watch am. Fm. Vid....... president walker 3. Hands down. 😊 million more stuff on walker radios. Than. Cobra 29.
These are Cobra killers for sure.
I wish they made this with sideband.
Buy a President Lincoln 2 has FM and Sideband
@@conmullen1670
Okay thanks, I'll check it out 👍
Or better yet the anytone 6666 is another fantastic radio with Sideband and FM and 60 watts power out of the box 📦. To modify it for the freeband extra frequencys all you have to do is hold down two buttons the first time you turn it on and it's converted... no clipping wires or adding a resistor. This way you don't void the warranty of your radio .
@@RicArmstrong hey Ricochet
I have both 6666 n Lincoln2
The Lincoln is a good radio but for the money I get 6666 cheaper n more power n better receiver
Just my opinion
73 n good dx n9prf 2fb2112
I like the Lincoln but has gotten pricey in my opinion. I like the look of the walker more too
I have a President Jackson that came out of my Dad's 1976 W900 Bicentennial Edition Aerodyne. Still works I'm sure.
Sweet! I don't think I've seen one of those.
I know the perfect place to install the President Walker 3....... In my office. High 5
You might have to get one of your own to put in your office. This one is spoken for :)
Mine arrives Saturday. Thanks for the review! ☺️
Glad you liked!
You are making me want to get back into cb with all these videos
Sorry!
@@FarpointFarms I suppose I can grant a free pass this time 🤣
is there a channel the is kind of a standard for FM anyone knows about? That will probably get more activity going. My AT-6666 has FM.
Not around here. I think some are trying to make channel 16 the calling channel for FM.
The new President Joe come complete with two bent/rusty cans and 10' of cotton twin. Some assembly required, punching a hole for the string and tying the knots after pushing the string through said holes, no instruction included like it's name sake they are lousy and cant last.
ha
Fm would be good with your buddy road. Trip. When all. Am. Channel s. Are burger. Up...
FM just cuts through the mess really well.
I have another suggestion about which vehicle. Instead of your bus or Beetle, I'd recommend my Chevy!
Ha! Well.....
Looks good as you's know we've had fm cb since 1981 the Xmas of that year put an end to good old alfa mikers killed cb radio after that, I believe fm wasn't as good for town use as am was but who am I to say I grew up with ssb am from Noisy city uk
Yup!
I'd like to ask a very crazy question. I know how to use a CB radio and I have some grms radios. What is the FM band on this Radio 4 or who's going to use it?
It's a new way to talk on CB. Some people are switching to it, but it will take years for it to really catch on. That said, If I was getting a new radio, I'd make sure it had FM mode.
Looks like a great rig. Thanks for giving us an overview of it!
Any time!
I've been searching the Internet for hours, and I have yet to find the answer to what my friend told me this morning. He said CB radios are now Digital instead of Analog. Does anyone know the answer?
No sir. CB is available in three modes now. AM, FM, and SSB, but all three are still Analog.
I say the Beetle. The bus can camp, providing a better opeerating emvironment for a sidebander radio.
good point for the bus
Well we have FM here in UK but i prefer ssb bands and as good as FM may sound in my opinion the AM is better mobile to mobile FM you generally get peeps sat by there rigs at home with twig on a pole or roof talking to you , nice vid
Thanks for sharing- FM does has some decent sound quality
If you're into old CB's and reside in British Columbia, please reach out.
Cool!
I recently bought a Pres. Harrison. Which do you think is better??
I prefer the classic look of the walker myself.
So are people here in the states using the FM band enough to make the upgrade ? Any fellow truckers?
Uptake has been slow, but steady. I hope in another year or two you'll see a FM calling station and then more and more contacts.
Are there any waterproof CB radios for motorcycles? I need one for my Goldwing.
Radio shack made some "Sports" radios. They are!
Hmmm..... I wonder if the "FM" capability on my 2 radios is somehow implemented differently that the one in the video?
I have a Magnum S9 and an RCI 2980 that both have FM ability. The RCI also has a "CW" mode.
These radios are OLD! I've had the Magnum for probably 15 years (I think it's around that if not, more???) and the RCI I've had for about 10 years, but it's much older than that.
So now I wonder if their "FM" ability is different that what's not "approved" ???
Does anyone know?
There should be no difference. It just wasn't legal to transmit on FM until a year or so ago.
@@FarpointFarms >> looks down at the floor...
6 and 11. Yeah, Those are the ones I want to listen to. (NOT) Why is the Antron 99 not god?
I am not sure on this- I do like the Antron 99
So i would like to see a video or two about warranty work for president radios especially in America just a thought for them people who own them type of radios
They have a 1 year warrenty or 2 if you get a president antenna. If you have an issue during that time (Unlikely) you'd send it to a service center for repair.
Too many bells and whistles . That is a Mobil radio which is ok , but all the added features means that you have to take your attention ( at least a little) off the road . Who needs a scan feature . Who is going to listen to the national weather service .
I have specific radio for recieving that information .
Fm , on an AM band . What were they thinking ? Talk about a garbled mess . I live in a relatively populated area . And there are signals ( intentional and unintentional ) all through the area . Like baby monitors and garage door openers , and then the racket from the blue tooth feature on computers and cellphones . If listen carefully , I can which is which , and even tell where it’s coming from .
The reason CB was designed to be a single channel AM receiver is because , when your scanning , there is the potential of missing a specific message ment for you but your radio was on another frequency . Dangerous . As a Mobil , I say NO . As a base , that’s a marginal maybe .
I have to disagree. This one manages to put all those features in a radio that doesn't have extra knobs and buttons. It's easy to use, clean to look at, and Scan is the BEST new feature CB's have come up with.
@@FarpointFarms I still subscribe to the classic radios .
Wish it had the McKinley auto tune feature.🤷♂️
I don't recall ever seeing a tuner built into a CB, but it would be cool!
Thanks for your radio reviews. I have bought several because of them.
thanks for the continued support of the channel
Where did you buy them
The President radios are the best sounding radios. They use a stock condenser microphone and it has a much more natural sound to your voice. I have 2 President Bills. One is AM the other is AM/FM. Love the compact size. Fits perfectly in my cars.
thanks for sharing
I own both the Bill and Bill II as well
Need to have band plan to dedicate channels for AM/SSB and fm.
I'm sure that will happen in time.
It's about time the FCC allowed you 'Murcans to use FM.
Ha, Right?
Now that fm is legal
What channel is popular for fm?
I think it depends on the area that you are at- I have had reception on a few channels
Is this ham radio?
Looking back into cab after years of being away.
No sir, this is still a CB radio, and they are more popular right now than you would think.
If your undecided where to install, you can put the radio in the mailbox and send it to me.
Ha!
Fm sucks in the desert of nevada s calif and urah line of site old xb best in remote country paid for your site
Cool.
Incorrect 1984 I bought President JFK radios AM FM band same size as Cobra 29
That wasn't a CB radio in 1984. It was an "Export" radio. While they were here, they were also illegal.
I've had FM for 11 months. Not even one FM contact yet.
I've made one. It will take a long time for it to really catch on due to the amount of AM/SSB models out there.
What is the range of this radio.? I am new to these radios. Trying to get prepped for a grid outage...
Depends largely on the antenna used. Check out my videos on Antenna's for more info.

I just bought the Walker III and it will be in my F 250. First CB radio owned.
Great pick!
President is making the best radios right now. In my humble opinion of course.
I agree with you
I got andy2 and kl203p amp. Set cb at 1.75 watts, and with my center-fed sloper dipole antenna, I made, 8.3 inches per side, positive lead up at 14ft , neg. Leg Is 2 ft off ground sloped pointing west-northwest. Swr 1.2 ,1.3. I'm in so.nev. I skip to FL. GA. Tenn. Ohio mich. ( longest Hits were Hawaii and Bahamas . Each was 3 minute minimum perfect connection before the drift). But like Tennessee, we will talk for fifteen minutes to the same person. So cool..... we are newbies. Well i had a base station when I was 15 in "76", lingo has changed, I never hear a BREAK anymore, I guess you just jump in when you can,,,, I found sayin ,Waiving a hand, works good . Lol thanks for sharing 🍸
I agree as well
Maybe try a Stryker
Loving my McKinley 👍
I vote bus. Wait for a SSB FM AM for the shack. Make sure to put that "Rookie Beep" in everything !! Oh by the way, I missed the Theme song for radio vids.
am trying something new for the intro- I will keep that in mind
Thank you for teaching me about DIN and double DIN size radios. I’ve see your vehicle installations, but for some reason it was just today that I realized I may have a double DIN radio in my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I could probably do a similar installation. Thank you!
glad I was helpful- good luck with the new installation
I’m new to the hobby and looking for a new radio. This one looks interesting.
The color changing screen screams put me in the bus 👍
it kinda does with the cool colors
Does anyone make a steering wheel mountable keyed mic?
I am not sure that anyone does- I would like to know
Cobra 29 LTD just came out with FM
That is what I've heard.
How is it a home base station if it does not come with a 110 wall plug wire?
You can add a cheap used Radio Shack 120 to 12V converter on eBay, and bingo, you have a base station!
The range of FM will never be as good as AM, partly because AM punches above the nominal 4W output power for half the modulation cycle. Also the audio bandwidth of FM is about half for the same channel size so for a 10KHz channel you get 2.5KHz audio bandwidth instead of the 4.5KHz you can get with AM.
Where FM scores over AM is with "quieting" which basically means you get a better signal to noise ratio for medium to strong signals and, the ace up its sleeve, the capture effect which means that its possible to use a channel with another conversation happening in the background without so much mutual interference. This is really only useful in cities where lots of people are using CB at the same time, which is back the 1980s.
Probably the main reason why FM is being introduced in the US is so that the same rigs can be sold in the US and EU/UK without modification.
I would be surprised if many US CB users will use FM much for the same reason most people still use FM in the UK, because that's where everyone else is.
Yup. Took USA forever to change to digital broadcast TV. 2008 there was a push to add subcarriers to medium wave broadcast AM radio and now their is a push for digital FM commercial radio which is failing. 80% of trucks don't have there CBs on and I am guessing 30% has no CBs in the trucks. The trend I am seeing in Iowa is farmers using GMRS for field communications needless to say no licenses. Traffic has tripled in the last year. Yet GMRS repeaters either join a net for traffic load or sit there and idle. If two people actually talk on a GMRS repeater then the owner split tones it and makes that will never happen again. The HOA of radio.
Nice radio ! You could set it up as a base until you decide which VW to put it in , maybe President will send you something else then you’ll have one for both Great review
fingers crossed---
I’d love to see a relocatable head on these like many of the Mobile HAMs out. I would also love a Sideband radio. All of mine are straight AM only.
Haven’t had a CB radio since cellphone came in use.
Never too late to get back into the hobby!
Nice radio. I have the walker 2 but I also have the president Lincoln 2+, it has it all...AM/FM/SSB . The Lincoln 2+ has a much better ASC than the Walker 2 but that's the only noticeable difference between my Presidents both radios are top shelf!
glad to hear your thoughts on them
What do you mean FM?
Is that another name for sideband?
FM is another band, SB is different.
Put it in my Ford ranger
What's the benefit of a 6pin mic vs 4pin mic?
6 pin are set up where you can adjust the channels up and down using the mic.
CBs suck. The audio quality is horrific. I drive a dump truck and the guys I work with have gone modded 2m ham radio. We use channels that used to be used by our local pd before they went to 800 in the early 90s. 154. -159. Kenwood TM271 is a killer radio. Sound quality is excellent and 10-20 miles of range is easy on high power.
Bummed it doesn’t have an adapter for a 4 pin mic
You can get a 6 to 4 adapter, sorry it does not come with one
Make it a base 😎👍
Maybe!
My father, I, most of my cousins and my uncles had CDL licenses.
I remember 50 years ago we had to have a license to use a CB radio and we had to have a registered call sign. We were supposed to identify ourselves with our license number and call sign at the beginning and end of every conversation.
I think most people ignored that. But, we gave our license number and call sign like we were supposed to.
Radios sure have come a long way since then.
USMC 1986 - 1994
No doubt about the changes. I still love the older 70's gear though.
KANZ-9374 was mine
Nice Radio being the president' FCC radios can't expand all models should be $49- $120 max for FCC types.
I can't believe others not putting FM in there radios? Hey when band is dead at night this radio be nice to use FM or AM . To bad no activity over here in SW PA? Dead all night I really hope the spark gets to a fire with CB radio.
Flip a coin on the install vechical
let fate make a choice. Do a night time FM range test

Retired but keeping busy. Not into TV but knowing what is happening in the area (fire & police) and maybe SW listening would be interesting. Not interested in broadcasting. I live in Aroostook ME in middle of nowhere. Best suggestions for a beginner? I know a decent antenna will be needed.
I figured that so I ordered one already...lol
Right on!
What does FM have to do with CB radios?
FM mode was added to the CB radio, it is another way of transmitting on the CB band.
CB sales must be doing very well for President to come out with another FM CB. I’d use it for a base station and put one of you Thomas’s in the bus or Super Beetle.
base station would be a good idea for it

Still waiting for an AM/FM/SSB CB radio, until then I'm not going to buy one.
rumor has it they have one coming out sometime next year
President Lincoln 2 plus converted to 11 meter. Not legal but there are a lot of them out there. Just stay off the ham bands if you do not have a license and turn down the power to 3.5 watts - all the way down on a stock radio. These radios have am fm ssb and cw. They dead key stock at 12 watts on am so if you want to pretend to be legal turn down the power output.
@@kurtschreihart7424 if I'm buying anything it's going to be a legal radio.
It's a nice radio but I'm old school - needs SSB.
Hey Eric , great demo. I think that'll be my next "grail radio" The price isn't too bad, and wow on all the features . I'm the guy with the Cobra 23 plus you helped with antenna advice a couple weeks ago. I got a new mic, the mic was shot. I finally figured out the ( 2A fused) yellow wire has to connect to the ( 2A fused) red wire which, goes into the chinese AC to DC converter . It's the "channel memory " wire that would normally go to the car's fusebox. I tried to make a ground plate for the gutter mount antenna, to see if it would at least work short distance . I also grounded it to a heater pipe, which seems to help . I am now pulling in some serious "skip" all the way from Oklahoma to CT . (I'm at some elevation) Problem is, Looks like I'm receiving ok, but no one answers my radio checks. (I do try to reach local truckers , not bases. ) A guy on a forum said to test the transmission by putting an AM radio near it , and yep , I can hear my voice through it (and sometimes some Hendrix feedback) so that's somewhat encouraging. I also figured out the screw on the radio's panel that increases modulation (501 screw) . Another guy said "maybe the finals are blown? ". (Most guys just said "check the mic first"). The Tram antenna with a new coax cable is gonna run me 85.00 with shipping . I wiggled the coax and it seems ok. Does it sound to you that I'm at least making some progress? oh, also I'll get the SWR meter and tune it. The chatter definitely isn't what it once was. The guys on 6 and 11 are insane. So if you have any redneck wisdom on this I'd appreciate it, I did try a lot of searching so I don't keep bothering you . But I am sold on that President. Someone also said Cobras aren't what they used to be.
Without being there with you, it's hard to say what is causing that issue. I am leaning toward that antenna setup, but again, it's hard to say for sure. Good luck with the setup though!
@@FarpointFarms You're probably right . Then I'm like "ok $85.00 versus investing that into half the price of a President 3. (with Farpoint promo code...)

Which car. Should it go in. ? Mine. 😊
Makes sense.
What does it sound like in FM mode?
I did an AM/FM comparison a while back. A little richer tones in FM.
One day I’ll be able to get a setup just can’t afford it right now living on a fixed income
