- "Forged Down Under" is filmed in Queensland, Australia, at the Savage Custom Creative workshop. Savage Custom Creative specializes in knife making and blacksmithing classes. Our goal is to get as many people interested in and participating in our hobby.
"Forged Down Under" was created to showcase the Australian talent we have in the knife making and blacksmithing community and hopefully get more people interested in our hobby! We also aim to make the industry more friendly, as we're all here to help each other.
Each episode is split into two videos - Part 1 & Part 2. Each episode has a theme and is made up of 3 rounds. Contestants receive a challenge that they must start in round 1 and finish in round 2. Each round is judged based on a rubric and the final score from both round 1 & 2 combined, will decide who moves on to round 3, where they will get a new and more advanced challenge. The winner of round 3 will become a "Forged Down Under" champion.
"Forged Down Under" is unique, as we only give the contestants a theme to follow, and the creativity of how they interpret the theme is wholly up to them. This creates a much more fluid and entertaining approach. Sometimes, giving fewer guidelines is better, as contestants have to battle the urge to overcomplicate the build in a time-constrained environment.
Our judging is also different. We judge the contestants on a rubric for Round 1, based on three categories, with a 1-5 points scale per category, per judge. Then, in Round 2, we judge them on a more complex rubric of five categories. This gives the contestants who think about their approach a more strategic path. If you're smart, you can guarantee high points in a couple of categories or maybe aim for an average across all categories.
We hope you enjoy our show, "Forged Down Under"!

We had a few issues with some sound for this episode a couple sections will be without sound for a minute.
Really enjoyed making that dagger
21:58 look's ya missus cracked you one.
The audio dropped out a few times fellas but as usual a good video.
Have a ripper you guys!
I'd have really liked to see on the destruction testing a bit more oomph put behind it. When cutting the leather and doing the stab test it seemed like some of the judges were much more gentle than another judge. I think all the knives would have been tested more evenly if the third judge had performed all the tests when it came to the stab and leather cut. Or had 1 judge do all 3 carpet cuts another judge do all the 3 leather slices and the last judge do all 3 of the stab tests. Just my opinion and so stoked to see another episode from you chaps. Thanks for taking the time to make this production a reality. Keep up the awesome work I know I'll always be here to watch another episode. Good work to all the competitors and judges.
The 2nd part has some pretty cool destruction testing, stay tuned for that 😎
It didn't get in there. But the judges did do another set of the same tests all done by the one judge for consistency. Were alot more brutal with it but no one took any damage. Big deep obvious cuts in the leather and some heavy duty stabs. Mine actually went through solidly on that retest. I'd guess they went with that initial footage to give the judges some equal screen time.
@Parmenion87 thanks for sharing I'm glad to hear that. I know not everything is going to be perfect every time it just looked visually like some were tested easier than others but it's nice to know they went through again to be fair to all the competitors. I do love watching these episodes and try to throw out any constructive criticism I can because at the end of the day these fine folks don't have to put this out for everyone to see and I'd like to see it be the best it can be. Looking forward to the next episode. Don't suppose you can let me know who takes the day a little early strictly for some gambling purposes eh? Lol you guys all did fantastic.
Was great to be apart of! Heaps of fun!
Enjoyed seeing how the contestants each interpreted the theme, and their creative problem solving along the way. Looking forward to part 2!
I certainly had a number of problems to creatively solve.
This episode has got to have some of the nicest knives so far
I was wondering if it was my phone. Loved the diamond grind blade, super cool. Excited to see what they can do next round.
love the show but please show close ups of the knives, more detailed and for much longer, when the judges comment on an aspect of the knife it would be good to see that on screen at the time, keep up the great work!!
Awesome episode, thank you for sharing.
Impressive work everyone, great results.
Great show guys, awesome initiative for the community in Aus! Thank you for taking the time and the risk - please keep it up.
Smashed it Cam!
Gotta point out the score board for the second part specifically, was a bit wrong haha
Smashed it all but, well done Rich and Nathan!
Thanks mate!
First and foremost- loving this series and cant wait to see it progress. Thanks for the brilliant content!
Secondly, I'd personally like to see this episode uploaded with the audio issues fixed. I'd certainly rewatch it and it seems a real shame to release such brilliant content with -in my opinion, massive audio issues that spoiled it.
Thirdly, i agree with others....please please please, when it comes to judging the knives and comments about certain issues, get some close ups ....even stills would be better that not being able to see what you're talking about.
Also, get some one to check the scores as it didn't seem to add up.
Anyway, i mean no disrespect.....i genuinely want to see this take off for you guys so i hope this is taken as constructive criticism of a fantastic effort.
Love the concept, love the judges and the contestants/guest judges have all been spot on too.
I think if you iron out the teething problems you're onto a winner for sure.
Keep it up!
The scoreboard was a bit wrong. Great job Cam! And the others too :)
Great show!
Great show guys. I was getting intermittent moments with no sound. Not sure if it was my end but when I clicked back the silent gap was consistent, it happened about 5 times.
Great stuff.👍
Loved the show, but some of claims about the history were inaccurate. I'm a bit of a nerd in that regard.
My research consisted of 5mins of google searching whilst waiting for my steel to heat up so it’s definitely not accurate lol.
I love it but no sound.......😮
RUclips had an issue with one of the songs so there are some small muted parts unfortunately.
a great show, but can someone explain what exactly a 'rubric' is?, the judges may understand, but us RUclipsrs don't!
Remember, it's not about what the knives do to your targets (But what the targets do to the knives).
😉
I’d be keen to see some tougher abuse on the “destructive” testing. I know your trying to make your own take on the more mainstream television series and have addressed some of the shortcomings of that series quite well, but I’m not quite sure a gentle slice on some leather and carpet really showcase the heat treatment.
Still, I am quite happy to watch this series and the more inclusive nature of judging and contestant interactions is pleasing to see.
I'd fire your audio editor, he dropped the ball a few times during the show. Either faulty equipment or faulty editing, his fault either way😛😁
Well, now i want to get out my long seax and test its 'penetrative' ability on the nearest carpet 😅
G'day everyone is there a date for part 2?
Where are the close ups of the finished blades please.
lost a few mins audio?
Seax is a known Norse - Viking "knife"
But they did say dagger.. i see one in the video
All good
🤘😎🤘
Good and informative show, can I have a sticker please😊
I saw the boss in irl echuka
Is it me or is there a issue with sound?
RUclips had an issue with one of the songs so there are some small muted parts unfortunately.
I missed it by about 30 seconds
Second!!!
