Thank you Shawn, very very informative video. I just bought a 2016 Spyder F3 Limited with 1800 Kms travelled. I do my own servicing so I now realise I should never reach that mileage that requires a spark plug change. Thanks again.
I knew it was a big job changing the plugs but I didn't realise it was that big, I definitely won't be changing my plugs until it starts misfiring LOL!! 😆 Everything's so compact in the Spyder, that's another good thing about the Ryker, much easier to access the engine!! 👍😁
Holy Crap! All that just to get to the spark plugs?! I thought only aircraft designers made simple jobs that complicated! Happy Hump Day! Have a great one! Peace and love.
Oh man you are earning your keep on that service...wow. I will not be attempting the plugs on one of those, that is a lot of work! Thanks for taking us along, it was very interesting....loved every minute👍
Good Morning Kelly and Shawn, Happy Wednesday. That’s a big job to change the plugs on a Spyder F3-T. You literally dismantled the Bike. I’m interested in what you find is causing the leak on the radiator. Batteries are expensive I just spent $200 on a new Battery for my van. Mind you I bought one that has 850 cold cranking amps. I need that in the winter. That was the mid to top priced battery, there was one for $400. I passed on that and less cold cranking amps. Have a great Hump Day.😊 It’s 4 am, think I’ll try to get some shut eye.
That must cost a few bucks to change those spark plugs! Thanks for the show and tell on the can am. Looking forward to the after work rides, hoping to do a ride tomorrow if the weather cooperates for me, the Indian is ready to go!👍
Hi Shawn! Awesome video as usual. I just bought a 2019 BMW F750GS and can't wait for spring. What are your thoughts on the consumer reports article on BMW being one of the least reliable motorcycles over the last 4 years. Being a mechanic that works on these vehicles if anyone had knowledgeable information on reliability that could shed some light on why people would report bad reliability it would be you.
Hey y'all... just wanted you to know we had some real serious weather in Texas last night also!! High winds and thunderstorms with heavy rain~~ I'm thinking y'all were in Texas before you moved to Oregon... You remember Texas Weather! :-)) Stay dry! jp
All my dreams of doing my own service on my 2016 F3 LTD just went up in "Smoak" . 28 K for me is 45,000 Km I better start saving my Loonies!!!! I agree with the last comment.... not a good design for such a simple task of replacing 3 plugs.
I made my RS 998 even easier to replace the plugs by replacing the horridly huge air box with a pan cake air filter. There are a few gains in power and torque, also a bit of extra induction noise under heavy throttle percentages, but under normal conditions it tolerable.
I love your videos! Quick question regarding the F3. I noticed all of the dirt inside the engine compartment, do you have any recommendations on how to get it all cleaned up? Steam cleaning or pressure wash? Obviously covering up the airbox. Any recommendations are appreciated.
hey shawn, i notice that when i search for spark plug change for the f3 , everyone usually starts the video when the panels are off. i can remove the side panels, no problem and pretty much everything else. but when it comes to the "lateral console panel", the top/side panels shaped like a "Z", next to key console on each side, nobody shows how to remove these. i have the shop manual and they say "swing out to you and remove". i dont think so! they are clipped where you cant see. and they are tight. can you shed some light on this?
OMG , they should make the design engineers perform maintenance work on their machines before they release them. Maybe then it would be a little less challenging to do anything to these nightmares. Ran into a lot of this on machinery when I was still working as a industrial milwright. Don’t miss it. A whole lot easier to do maintenance on my HD. Thanks
You can tell the design engineer does not ever plan to work on one. That's a mess just to change the plugs. I worked in a body shop for about 10 years, I don't miss that either.
I'd like to say I'm surprised that you have to do this to get to the spark plugs but I used to own a 2011 skidoo expedition and you had to all but take the entire front end apart just to get to them...
I'm really surprised on the last couple of Spyder jobs you've done, you have literally undone and redone no less than half the bike to fix something that actually took you a few minutes, once you dug what was to be repaired out of China. You have my sympathies. LOL!!! Stay safe!!!!!!
Crazy. Spark plugs. Maybe less cost to buy new at 28k 😆 Not really. This fall the wife's RT Limited will be do for its 28k. What does a 28k service cost?
Shawn Can you recommend a good bike to bike device for talking to my wife when we’re on the bikes please . I’m in Ireland so I can still get American things from eBay or amazon yea we don’t have anything except sign language 🤟 Loving the tech vlogs 🏍🍺👍
I know it's your job.. but this is just beyond a joke modern bikes cars etc servicing access is the last thing designers think about 😣!!!!!BUT we pay for it💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💵💵💵💵💵💵💵 cheers from dave...
Wow I have the same model Spyder...guess I had better start saving up for that service starting today. I can't believe how much dirt collects under all the panels on the Spyder!!!
I rode an F3 today. Loved it. But the maint thing is a frightful thing. It looks, to do anything on these, a massive tear down is required. I ask about cost of an oil service. $154.. I could see $1000+ for the 28k. Yikes!
Wow. Thanks for showing me how actually simple my 2012 998 RT is! I will never complain again about changing my plugs! 😀
No problem, thanks John!! 👍

I love My Spyders (I have 3 of them) but this is the MADNESS of Can Am design or lack of !!!
I’m driving my F3 to you Shawn when the spark plug change is due. That’s way above my comfort level. Thanks for sharing.
I knew it was a big job changing the plugs but I didn't realise it was that big, I definitely won't be changing my plugs until it starts misfiring LOL!! 😆 Everything's so compact in the Spyder, that's another good thing about the Ryker, much easier to access the engine!! 👍😁

Man those Spyder's are dust collectors of the highest order
Wow! Reminds me of some building Architects I've worked with, not a thought to future maintenance access.
Shawn WOW a lot of work for service on the Spyder, but very interesting. Thanks. Be Cool and Ride Safe🇺🇸🏍🐶
Loved the Spyder tech stuff! Cool to see the Spyder without its skin on.
Look at all the dirt and road grime that F3 pulls through the body. That's crazy, It's like the guy off roads with it!
My very fav Vlog by a mile.. First thin I do every morning is turn my Roku TV to you guys..Just like family.. Love it..
So the air box sits right on top of the valve cover no way to pull those coils out. Great video!
Can't believe a year went by since you bought the battery for the Dr it seems like three months take care guys
man i really love that color of that spyder.. I should go see what it would take to test drive one maybe this weekend if the weather holds out
That must cost a few bucks to change those spark plugs! Thanks for the show and tell on the can am. Looking forward to the after work rides, hoping to do a ride tomorrow if the weather cooperates for me, the Indian is ready to go!👍
Wow, what a job on that F3-T. The owner must ride lots of dirt roads? Thanks for another great Vlog! Have a good one!

Better you than me Shawn , I can pull things apart but I,m stuffed if I can put things back where they belong !
Hey Shawn when are you going to get that windshield fixed?
I made my RS 998 even easier to replace the plugs by replacing the horridly huge air box with a pan cake air filter. There are a few gains in power and torque, also a bit of extra induction noise under heavy throttle percentages, but under normal conditions it tolerable.

That 28K service is crazy, I bet you lost your 10mm taking off all that bodywork. Good stuff Smoaks!
So the 18000 mile on the 2018 F3 Limited does not involve all fluid changes. Only the oil and no spark plug change, right.
hey shawn, i notice that when i search for spark plug change for the f3 , everyone usually starts the video when the panels are off. i can remove the side panels, no problem and pretty much everything else. but when it comes to the "lateral console panel", the top/side panels shaped like a "Z", next to key console on each side, nobody shows how to remove these. i have the shop manual and they say "swing out to you and remove". i dont think so! they are clipped where you cant see. and they are tight. can you shed some light on this?

Tech Tip Tuesday ...Ride Safe !!

How many labor hours for a 28k service?
Shawn that's a lot of work to change spark plugs is the 2014 RT Spyder Limited just as hard to change the spark plugs ?
After it’s all said and done what does this service cost do you have done
You know most of our toys are simple to work on but that seems like a pain.
Is the 28k that intensive on a 2015 RT ? That's crazy, looks like BRP would have made that easier.
Wow that looked like a long day for you
You definitely convinced me to get service done by the dealer.
That truly looks like a nightmare! Glad the Ryker is easier to maintain.
Forgot to ask, about how much does this service run?
Wow Shawn I would have tears in my eyes if I had to put spark plugs in that. Too complicated for my miniature brain cell 🧐 thanks
My God, that is not a do it yourself job or weekend job wow!
It’s amazing how cruddy that F3-T has gotten but if its driven hard its gonna get cruddy! Lol
I hope ol' Shawn hosed it off for him,
I watch all your videos. Love them. I buy all my stuff from pro caliber in Vancouver. I will be there soo. For my new can Am ryker. 👌
I'm really surprised on the last couple of Spyder jobs you've done, you have literally undone and redone no less than half the bike to fix something that actually took you a few minutes, once you dug what was to be repaired out of China. You have my sympathies. LOL!!! Stay safe!!!!!!
You know I got a GoPro here 7 black last week and this week it on sale for 349 I got back 54 dollars back
What would the 28k service run on a F3 LTD on a 2020 or 21 model just a guesstimate
Crazy. Spark plugs. Maybe less cost to buy new at 28k 😆
Not really. This fall the wife's RT Limited will be do for its 28k. What does a 28k service cost?
Think I'm blinded with 💵💵💵💰💰💰💰 No thank you 🤣🤣

Ever used a motobatt battery?
I having a issue taking the air box out🤦🏾♂️... Worst design ever
I'm assuming you're going for the plugs..? Yeah, not a user friendly vehicle to service!
Thanks!!
👍👍
I want it all D:
If I had that spyder I see a LOT of $$$$$$$ leaving my wallet. No thank you..
