I’ve lightly keyed old gloss and applied two coats of this straight over. Have also used over leyland acrylic primer & undercoat when the surface wasn’t sound or colour change required. May try to the new Aqua Guard undercoat, didn’t fancy the hybrid due to issues cleaning brushes out. What I would say in the best finish appeared to be from two coats over the old keyed gloss so the undercoat may be more of an optional step. Just tried Dulux Heritage eggshell this week as well. Much thinner, slightly flatter finish but really difficult to tell any difference side by side but it has a very distinctive and lingering smell that I don’t like. Probably going to stick with the Aqua Guard as a result.
@@Inexteriors I want to stay away from leyland trade because when I used their water based satin in my daughters bedroom it was a load of rubbish to apply and it looks grey. I've read the oil based also drags like the water based.
HI how did it go ? is it washable? Scratch resistant? Did u sand before uc or between uc ? I've sanded down x gloss doors. Should I use 123 primer? Or just go with Jon's uc ? Please tell me best method in steps including sanding thanks

I really don't like all the effort of sanding x 4 doors x 3 windows which all yellowed from old layers of tough gloss. I wanted to be sure I am using the correct procedure so I won't have to re -do it all over. I really appreciate your advice and your videos are a great help 👍
Have you OR anyone ever showered with your paint brushes ? Today, I used Crown Easyclean Matt Emulsion , Washable & Wipeable, Multi Surface Paint to paint my bathroom ceiling. This paint was easy to work with. A Lovely consistency. Bright white. Not reflective, Very mild odor. It went on like a dream, However, I noticed I got carried away painting and realised I would be 20 mins late for my dinner date. To save time cleaning myself and my painting equipment separately. I decided to bring paint tray, brushes, rollers into the shower with me. I solved two tasks at the same time !
I used it last week Steven with a bit of M-1 latex extender (similar to floetrol but i find it works better ) and it did flow on really nice , i think it's a decent product for water based but i still think it's not as good as oil for finish and application. Nice vid mate .👍

Two different products, the aquaguard is an acrylic, the aqua satin and gloss are hybrid, personally I hate hybrid coatings, completely pointless. Aquaguard on the hand is very good
@@Inexteriors I dont see the point in hybrid paint...its like all thats good and bad about oil and water based paints in one tin, it dries quicker than oil based but longer than acrylic, water based, although in fairness theres less brushmarking, it smells worse than acrylic, but not as as as oil based, and its a doesn't yellow like oil based, but still yellows, albeit over a longer period...whereas acrylic doesnt yellow at all. It also wrecks your brushes, or you have to either change them or swill them out during a shift. The one saving grace I guess is it feel more like a traditional oil based when its being applied. Ive been using water based gloss since 1985, and that really was a nightmare!...thank god its improved since then
They are getting loads better, I only started using them about 7 years ago lol. I have done doors about 4 years ago in the Aqua satin and they still looked pure white, also I have a kitchen door and a pantry door side by side 1 done in the Aqua guard satin the other done in the Aqua satin I did them about 7 months ago and so far there is no difference.
@@Inexteriors yeah the satin, like the oil based version is least likely to yellow, certainly less than the goss does. The original (sandtex brand) water based really took some getting used to...if you went over a wet edge a minute or so later it 'picked up'...lifting straight off the undercoat... but when I used it the very first time, 3 windows, nice warm sunny day, undercoated, glossed and closed again in 3 hours! That was groundbreaking back then impossible with oil based. It only came in 6 colours...then I did a garage door poppy red over a dark pink undercoat....5 coats later...😩😔 It was like red scumble glaze mate! Its improved so much since, it had too! 😂
Don’t really get the opportunity to try loads of different products due to doing new builds constantly But on the odd occasion I use bedec multi surface , great stuff Good coverage, grip , and drys so quick with a bit of assistance from a heater of just good old fashioned fresh air Not had it pull at all Crown fast flow not bad either

Sand, 123 primer, if going over oil based paints, then aqua undercoat then 2 top coats. yes it is durable.

You can use zinsser 123 as a under coat first

Johstones Aqua satin, it is a hybrid, though, but is more water-based.

Was the door originally painted with wb paint or solvent gloss ?
Years ago oil based, then b&Q water based satin, then aqua satin, then aqua guard.
