Yay for thermal cycling! The simple fixes are definitely nice. Soon as I heard that angry buzz and the circuit breaker popped, my guess was one or both of the bridge rectifiers.

I have one of these, had it for many years. It currently powers a 12VDC power distribution strip with everything ~12VDC in my Hamshack plugged in. 300W HF transceiver & 50W UHF\VHF transceivers. 2x powered 12V powered USB hubs for the computer, and because I'm a bit nerdy my computer audio stack runs Toslink out to a 12V powered D\A converter and then into a 12V Car audio equalizer then into a 4 channel 150W RMS\channel car audio amplifier out to two pairs of studio monitors. Nothing like having a 150W RMS per channel 4 channel computer audio system lol. This Power supply while I agree was probably designed for car audio amplifier testing or to supply the 12V in multi deck & multi-amplifier car audio displays that used to be found in car audio & retail stores back in the 80's 90's & 2000's it's quite useful in the ham radio world and powers everything in my shack I have thrown at it over the years without breaking a sweat. Not sure how my electric bill enjoys it with that giant transformer, since you can get a switched mode supply that is 1/20th the size that weighs about a pound these days that runs 50ADC and is 85%+ efficient but hey I use it anyway :) It's a beast for sure!

One more thing when you turn the power supply on that starts to run. Then it slows down and stops and then when you turn off the power supply the fan starts to run again and then it stops weird. Thank you, gunny

these are typically used for ham radios. the red box should get you to 13.8 volts what is typically for ham shack radios on a budget I had one twenty five years ago.

A loose heatsink is a very plausible explanation. May we assume you checked the 2nd output off camera?

Can you tell me if the fan supposed to work all the time when you turn this power supply on? I picked one up with these Powers of Life and I had to replace the fan. The fan turns on and then it stops. I don't know if there's a problem with the capacitors or the rectifiers. Can you please help me out? Thank you, gunny
