I gotta say, Dio singing Stargazer is some of the best vocals I've ever heard. Really stuck in my mind, and I still listen to it every now and then and it still blows me away. Ronnie Ramiro sounded great but Dio just killed it. What a legend.
Dio, Bonnet and Turner are all supreme vocalists. Blackmore hit three home runs with these guys. It's impossible to hit a trifecta in a situation like this, but Blackmore did it.
I really like Joe Lynn Turner's work at Rainbow, his three albums are subleme! Of course no one would have done a better job at Long Live Rock 'n Roll than Dio. And Graham Bonnet is not to be beaten when it comes to Down To Earth. They all fit their environment, Rainbow has had the best singers in history!
I agree although his live performances are inconsistent. But he sounded great on the New Alcatrazz release a year or so ago. Doogie is on the new Alcatrazz and it’s kind of boring.
I’ll agree with that. And funny how 20 years later, I discover the album I somehow missed, but showcases his imagination and storytelling: Magica. And it’s quite the masterpiece itself. He could written books, movies, whatever he wanted. We are blessed to have had him during our lifetimes.
RJD and JLT are my favourite singers in Rainbow. Those two era’s were vastly different from one another but both excelled with what they wanted to achieve.
This is the hardest one yet. I am a HUGE Dio fan but Joe Lynn Turner sang his lungs out in the studio on Difficult To Cure! Bonnet had a certain vibe on Down To Earth that really worked but I can't give it more than one listen at a time as its hard on tne ears after a while. So, all that being said - Ronnie Dio all the way!! The first Rainbow albums are 24 carat gold masterpieces.
Love this series! (Savatage up next????????????) All great singers, but Dio always wins in my book. He is not only a phenomenal singer, but the pictures he paints with the lyrics are off the charts!
Joe Lynn Turner was a phenomenal singer and he'd tell you that as well :) ... I'd love to see a breakdown of him singing I Can't Let You Go or one of your students give that song a go . Thanks Ken !
Early eightees Blackmore was looking for a Lou Gramm sound in his band, that's why he hired Joe Lynn Turner. Funny you mentioned Joe sounding like Lou Gramm!
When Dio sings I feel a magic come out of his voice. The dynamic is incredible and the way he connects with the lyrics takes him to a level behind the others. They are incredible singers, but seem to be singing lyrics whereas Dio is telling me something and he has my attention like a great story teller around the campfire.
I love Graham’s tone. He sounds so good, especially on his own stuff. Dio is a legend, ‘nuff said. JLT can sing, but he sounds so vanilla to me. I agree that Ronnie was carrying a lackluster band. Ritchie can find better players to bring some energy into it.
Ronnie could and did sing it all better than anyone. The best Rainbow ballad is Rainbow Eyes and if Ronnie had wanted to sing in a more commercial direction I'm sure he would have been the best at that too...but thankfully he didn't. In any case his singing on the Butterfly Ball is a glimpse as to how good he would have been moving that way.
Ronnie’s great on ‘Between To Hearts’. It has his lullaby vocal at the start and then morphs into Sabbathy vocal stylings It’s a very dark theme, some Ronnie would return to on ‘Dehumanizer’ ‘Strange Highways’.
Doogie White should get more credit for his part as a singer in Rainbow, Bonnet had a remarkable voice, but his stage presence and charisma on stage could have been better. The only true, real singer, of course, the great Ronnie James Dio, but second best, I would like to say Doogie White; the second best, after Dio, of course. Nothing against Joe Lynn Turner, but he worked better with Malmsteen. Rainbow, 1975-1978, with Ronnie James Dio, that´s hard to beat.
"He (Doogie White) had also auditioned for metal bands Pink Cream 69 and Iron Maiden, losing out to Wolfsbane's Blaze Bayley." (Wikipedia) How?? Rest is history.
Love this man! SO glad you did Rainbow! I have always called the Joe Lynn Turner era the Foreigner era of Rainbow. So many songs sound like Foreigner both in composition and vocals. All of these singers great (Ritchie never picks a bad singer) I hope in the future you can do a video on Graham Bonnet and Joe on their own, they both really deserve it. Dio is Rainbow but all the replacements were awesome and more people should know about them. Your channel is a my favorite youtube channel, really appreciate all you do!
Vocal peak of Graham Bonnet live is "Breaking the Heart of the City 1985" concert with Stevie Vai. He really sings there. And I love Doogie White for his folk-country vibes.
I think Rainbow's current Singer Ronnie Romero is really good and very underrated. Maybe my second favorite Rainbow Singer. I agree, that the band sounds tired. Ritchie has his moments but he's 75 and the drummer and bass player are pretty pedestrian sounding. Not exactly Cozy Powell and Bob Daisey. JLT was a really good fit for the post Dio Pop era. Some great songs from that era like "Street of Dreams." On a side note, Ritchie is not only one of the most iconic guitar players ever but often overlooked are all the great Singers he discovered. David Coverdale as well as the Rainbow stable of great vocalists. So many icons from the Blackmore/Purple/Rainbow family tree. Love your videos Ken. You're a great teacher and analyst and I love hearing my old favorites get some appreciation too.
Smashed the thumbs up already, but will return to give this its deserved attention. Challenging day going on here for me. But, as always, thank you so kindly for being a beacon of light in a difficult world.
For me it's Joe Lynn Turner by a long shot. I will never take anything away from Dio, he is one of the best ever. The Dio sound is so distinctive any band he was in instantly sounded like a Dio project or his band. JLT all the way
Pffft.... Luciano Pavarotti in his prime couldn't tie Ronnie James Dio's shoes in his Rainbow years. The very first time I saw Ronnie with Rainbow was on this tour in the video (Long Live Rock and Roll 1978). It was my first rock concert. I was in awe of how this little man's voice filled the whole arena. Something always overlooked about him; Compared to many other tenor vocalist peers in his genre (Halford, Tate etc..) Ronnie's vocal octave range was very limited, but what he did with it separated him from the rest of the pack. Ronnie never hit a bad note and most of what you hear are first takes. He can never be replaced....
But it wasn't limited in terms of range, many don't study all of the singer's vocal material to draw their conclusions, a singer who has a range ranging from C#2 in the chest voice without fry, to a Bb6 in the voice register of flute/on the edge of head voice, it is impressive in terms of full range, Ronnie's mixed voice varies from a D6 to an E6; In addition to him being the only singer I know who belted and sustained notes for a long time in a full chest voice without effort and without any facial or throat muscle tension, most singers cannot sustain a C5 without being within a strong balanced chest mix or a mixed voice with a predominance of head, because he doesn't have a completely solid muscular structure developed like him, to sustain an upward spoken voice register without getting hurt or strained; Which singer is willing to take a risk of singing with harmonic distortion in a full chest voice for over 30 years like Ronnie? None and not even himself Coverdale who also had this hoarseness in his voice, because we know the difficulty and level of resistance, of glottal compression that he mastered, for structural reasons and his genetic mechanics, to simply achieve that fabulous vocal result.
Rainbow is a great Ritchie Blackmore band. 🌈 Love Ronnie James Dio and Joe Lynn Turner. Joe Lynn Turner has the melodic vocals that I love.💜 I always favor Ronnie James Dio the most. He always sang awesome and so effortlessly. No one can top Ronnie James Dio.🤘👍 RIP Ronnie James Dio 🙏
Ronnie James Dio was a belter supreme. Bonnet was amusing but out of his depth. Turner was a fine melodic rock singer. Dio had something unique the others lacked.
Ken, really digging this series! Thank you for all of your time & efforts to do this! They are all really good singers but IMHO Ronnie James Dio is the voice of Rainbow! As you mentioned he hits the notes with little effort and the incredible powerful range and notes that came out of him are to this day just amazing! I agree that Graham Bonnet's voice sounds very forced and to me he struggles to hit the same notes that Dio did with ease! Joe Lynn Turner sounds to" Foreigner" for my tastes(not a bad thing just my observation). Ronnie Romero is very close to Dio, very powerful with soul! I am also glad you mentioned Ian Gillan, his singing on Jesus Christ Superstar(as the past of Jesus no less!) is just incredible and for those who have never heard this amazing Rock Opera need to do so immediately!!
On the matter who did it better; which one would you want to listen if you had a chance. Now this might not be objective and since Dio is more famous he would definitely come on top, but everyone as a Frontman for Rainbow was really good. The thing is just Dio is a god the other are mortals.
Joe Lynn Turner was the first person I heard sing in Rainbow, so to me he is the voice of the band, I didn't discover the master, the king of the mountain himself RJD till 1980, when he was in Black Sabbath, to me once you put RJD up against another singer, for me Ronnie will almost always come out on top, but! Ronnie Romero gives him a run, only because he sounds like DIo, and the last guy Graham Bonnet sorry to any of his fans not my kind of singer
My god... Ronnie,Ronnie,Ronnie 🙌🏻💫✨gives me goosebumps each time! How a little frame guy like him could sing like this...?! Surely his breathing's technique with trumpet helps a lot but ...man it's an heavenly voice! ♥️♥️🙌🏻👌🏼 Miss him so much each day 'til 13 years now ... 🤘🏼😔
Great vid Ken, it's unfortunate that it can be hard to find decent footage of live performances. All the Rainbow singers are great, so I knew this would be an interesting vid. Cheers
THANK YOU!!!! Was really hoping you would do them! This was the first time I heard Ronnie Romero, and wow - he sounds awesome despite the band. It seemed to me that the signers were best when they were singing their songs as opposed to songs from albums from the other singers (Bonnet didn't sound so good doing Ronnie, and what I have heard of Joe Lynn Turner doing Bonnet wasn't that good), but when they do their stuff - each one was awesome.
Dio just has such control, power and manipulation of delivering the notes.....As a vocalists myself, Dio is one of the few vocalist that drives me nuts when I sing his songs. CHEERS to ALL
I was lucky enough to see Heaven And Hell at Sweden Rock Festival in 2009. Ronnie Dio is the single best vocalist that I’ve ever heard and seen perform live. Bruce Dickinson is second place. Gooosh
Seen many great singers hard to say who was the actual best of best buy Joe Lynn turner was great . So was Ronnie ,Ian Gillan, Sammy Hager Bob Halford . And let's not forget Paul Rogers and 1 I didn't get to see the late David byron
@@jerrywoods4066 Among the top singers, we surely have Ronnie James Dio, but for me Rob Halford is the greatest, at least as a heavy metal singer, but Dio must be mentioned, of course. Talking the great David Byron, not to many are talking about the great vocalist from the glory days of Uriah Heep. He was amazing as as singer, I am a little to young to have been able to see him or Uriah Heep from that great period, but he (Byron), is absolutely there as one of the great vocalists from the early days of hard rock. Top metal singers, for mer, the great, great, Rob Halford, other great singers, Klaus Meine of Scorpions and Tony Martin, the later period of Black Sabbath,
@@jerrywoods4066 I've seen Ronnie James Dio four times live. Paul Rodgers twice live. Ian Gillan twice live. Rob Halford one-time live. Ronnie James Dio will always be my favorite vocalists but the best I've ever seen was Steve Marriott from Humble Pie Rock on
Ronnie James Dio was not only a great singer he put a lot of emotion into what he sang. Definitely one-of-a-kind... Bonnet and Joey Lynn Turner had the voice of the time speaking they we're great at the stage of the band..JLT still sounds great after all these years. Romero is Young n can carry the tunes.. he's a great cover singer and not taking anything away from him... But definitely Dio n JLT will always be my favorites n in my opinion the two best
I like Dio of course and Ronnie Romero is incredible, pushes up the band like you say... he´s so good, relives the essence of Rainbow, I think. Thanks for the great video Ken, and nice red fire t shirt...
Perhaps I misunderstood your comments at the beginning, but Ronnie was in Rainbow before Black Sabbath (Rainbow morphed out of Ronnie's prior band Elf because Blackmore wanted to record a few things that Deep Purple didn't want to go along with). So, the Black Sabbath tone came after his Rainbow tone. Regardless, for me, Ronnie (along with Blackmore) was Rainbow, even though Graham and JLT made some great commercial music with them. I'm forever grateful that Blackmore's Rainbow really showed the world what Ronnie could do.
Hey Ken! Can't believe your cover of Mistreated was five years ago. Is it possible that your singing has gotten even better since then? Lol! Just kidding, of course it has! Simply awesome. 🏆🏆🏆
Thank you Ken for making these videos, for me Dio is the man, Graham Bonnet is a very underrated singer, his work on the MSG album Assault Attack is incredible, JLT is a great singer, his work with Rainbow and Deep Purple is second to none , Douggie White does a great job on Stranger In Us All album but Ronnie Romero is amazing with Rainbow and his own band Lord's of black but on the Vandenberg 2020 album he is incredible.
Last night I heard Bonnet (75 years old) performing with his band where I live (Spain) and was amazing. Truly impressive. Imho Bonnet is the Rainbow best singer. The recordings with Michael Schenker are unique. He reunites energy, details and control in a fantastic way. I talk as a vocalist with a lot of years of experience.
Bonnett is one good singer but he no is close of Ronnie in terms of power, control, technique proficiency and naturall consistency, another level of vocalist.
Never listened much to Ronnie James dio there was a lot of replacement singers a lot wow Ronnie is awesome he rocks for sure Ken he has a creepy sound but he does rock for sure I never listened too any of the replacement singers Ken but I'm sure they all rock they all rock all have different styles and techniques I'm digging all their voices their all great have great voices but I'm probably going with Ronnie James dio he did it the best in my opinion great rock singers for sure 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Power I always loathed and together with Stone Cold not really the best cards from JLTs era. Loads of great more classic heavy rock like songs like Eyes or Fire, Spotlight Kid, Firedance, Stranded, No Release, MISS Mistreated, Dreamchaser, Death Alley Driver, Tearing out my heart, etc. It was seen as a commercal song but I SURRENDER really rocked.
There is some decent footage from Graham’s last show headlining the Monsters or Rock festival at Donington 1980. That B&W Texas show mix is terrible on the video and not really a fair reflection of his vocals. I like all eras of Rainbow, but the Rising line up will always be my favourite. Saw Rainbow twice with Ronnie Romero & he’s fantastic. Sadly the Doogie White era has been forgotten by Ritchie with Stranger in us all being the only album he’s not played songs from during the recent Rainbow revival shows. I get the impression that he saw that album as an obligation to BMG for leaving Purple mid tour in 1993 & once the resulting tours were complete he left the world of Rock for 19 years. Ritchie used to say Joe was his favourite vocalist & Street of Dreams was the closest he got to the Foreigner sound. Personally I like Doogie & it was a shame we never got a second album with him, he made a great live album with Cornerstone. Sadly like many former Rainbow singers he ended up with egotistical megalomaniac Yngwie. Of the 2016 Romero shows the two in Germany were more like rehearsals. They had no real rehearsal time due to Ritchie having hand surgery. The Birmingham show was by far the best show with the best atmosphere too, the only one not officially recorded too. The mix in 2017 was far superior to the German shows in 2016. David Keith the drummer got a proper kit & they sounded more like a band. If you can check out some of the bootleg footage from the Birmingham show. I have one on my page of him signing Soldier of Fortune, it’s acoustic and superb. I may have a video from 2017 too on here, I know I put two songs from The Sweet on as they were an awesome opening act.
Another awesome video..Goddamn I LOVE these videos...It gives me a new appreciation for my favorite singers. I view these guys in a laymens perspective. I love Dio, but never actually knew why...Sounds dumb I know. But now I can articulate why......( Next up, Stephen Pearcy from Ratt? haha, I'll quit asking...thanks Ken)
The first time I heard Rainbow, was when JLT was singing lead. I thought he was really good! Dio was doing his Dio solo thing by then. If I was in a record shop & I had enough money to buy a Rainbow or Dio album, I would have picked Dio, hands down. JLT has a harder, more rocking, Jimi Jamison sound/tone quality to his vocals. Imo
Rainbow only had virtuoso singers, they’re all great in their own ways. Along with possessing one of the finest voices in the business, Ronnie was the most artistically gifted of the Rainbow singers, which showed in his incredible consistency and taste in everything he sang. However, Bonnet deserves a lot more credit from people, that man had one of the most naturally powerful and unique voices I’ve ever heard. He has a whole discography full of amazing vocal performances and deep cuts (“I’m a Lover”, “Stand in Line”, “Hiroshima Mon Amour” and “Only One Woman” are one-of-a-kind performances) and he was always on point whenever he sang “Love’s No Friend” with Rainbow, that song always highlighted his true vocal potential especially during those vocal improvs during the performances. There’s a vocal range compilation of him here on RUclips that showcases his full potential very well, man could sing incredibly well but was always a bit too reliant on other great writers and producers, but give “I’m a Lover” a listen if you want to hear Bonnet at his best! Lynn Turner was also cool, he had that bluesy/soulful belt thing going that sounded amazing on some of Rainbow’s originals, especially on “Can’t Let You Go” which is almost like a rockier Michael Bolton type sound, great voice
Surprised how much of the lower chording DIO could get into his Tenor sound , especially being small in stature. Describing Glenn Hughes as " Tubular" or slightly closed in from "full voice" may be accurate. I see a good example with Ozzy singing " oh lord, yeah!" on B4 in War Pigs adding lower chording , where as replacement singer Ray Gillen closes off the lower chording and goes up B4 C Db instead of B4 to A4 Great point about Ronnie singing Db It has the tone of an Ahh vowel on A4. Glenn is my favorite singer. Not for replacing Dio though
Ronnie James Dio > Joe Lynn Turner > Doogie White > Graham Bonnet > Ronnie Romero. I like them all and LOVE Dio, but yeah... Dio is my second favourite singer ever, only behind Freddie Mercury... Dio is GOD. I think Joe Lynn Turner is extremely underrated. Street Of Dreams proves it. Other songs too, but Street Of Dreams is his best song. He is one of the most underrated singers in music history. Very versatile. Pop rock, hard rock... He can do it all. Doogie White... I love Black Masquerade and Ariel. Amazing songs. Graham Bonnet... Good singer, but just not my taste. A matter of personal preference. Ronnie Romero... Okay, but not extraordinairy. When listening to his live versions of Dio (Rainbow) and Gillan (Deep Purple) songs, I just constantly get reminded of how awesome Dio and Gillan are. And how Romero is not even close to those two heroes. To me, only two singers are Rainbow-worthy to me. Dio and Turner. Well, actually just Dio. When I think about Rainbow, I think about Dio.
Well Ken, you picked a real hard comparrison this time. Lets just say they are all really great singers. To get a better feel for their ability outside of Ritchie's clutch, if you check out Micheal Schenker Fest and the latest album Immortal he uses all these singers and they all sang very well. So Ritchie got the singers for the sound he was going for at the time. He wanted to be on on the radio so he brought Bonnett to get him there. Good pick this time.
on yer site atm seeing what we can do... been a closet singer since my early 20's and now 49 think its time to take the plunge... thx again for giving me that confidence to want to move forward. peace yet again
Thank you, very interesting, i totally agree with your comments concerning Ronnie Romero who really tries to pull this lackluster band out of its kind of paralyzed state:-).What a great singer he is covering everything from Gillan via Coverdale ,Hughes, Dio Bonnet, Turner!
JLT's solo album "Rescue You" basically sounds like a Foreigner album, and he also released a cover version of "Waiting For A Girl Like You", so it's kinda obvious that he was influenced by Lou Gramm. Apparently he even had an offer to join Foreigner at some point... one of the greatest singers of all time, imo.
Funny you say “Rescue You” sounds like a Foreigner album because not only does JLT have the Lou Gramm nuances, Al Greenwood who was Foreigner’s former keyboardist is on that album.
Joe Lynn Turner is way more a Gospel and Soul type of blues phrasing, it’s great! He could trade lines with Joe Cocker. I never really heard this guy. I also think of Paul Rogers here a bit. Now a question: how many stoopid good singers DID Blackmore work with… it’s crazy.
2:47 that doesn't make sense though as RJD started to become big with Rainbow first, and Black Sabbath came later. That Mistreated and Kill The King performance were in 1977. Which means he was open, became throaty and went to open again later in his career. But to me he sounded great with whatever he chose to do. 26:31 I completely agree. 27:00 Exactly 😂😂. The Prime of this band definitely was when RJD was on Lead Vocals, Cozy Powell on Drums and a young Ritchie Blackmore, sadly we didn't get more from it. Really liked this video very informative. Would you maybe do a Replacement Singers Video about Killswitch Engage? I'm really interested on how you would compare their Clean singing and Growls.
I know Dio is a God but i prefer Joe Lynn Turner in Rainbow 😊 love Turner era's in Rainbow...I love to watch your videos, cool stuff 😊 do a video with the Brazilian band Angra..three great vocals..André Matos,Edu and Fabio Leone 😊
Ken, I flat out cannot sing, but I do find your vids fascinating. I saw you mention Doogie at 22:50. That is so cool!!! I recently bought a V bass signed by Wayne Findlay, Doogie White and Michael Schenker, Rev, Hermann Rarebell and Francis Buchholz. I saw those guys about 10 years ago before another MSG/Temple singer David Van Landing who did the singing at our gig, passed away.
I would never have known about the vowel approach until you showed that .......it's an eye opener and shows the potential of range and expression .Shows us mere mere mortals that its possible !
Bonnet and White also both sang for Michael Schenker as well. The circle is neverending. Music, beautiful, deep, and heard different by all. The most beautiful part of all. This was a great one.🤘🎸
This is hard for me... Favorite albums is Down to Earth, but I love Joe Lynn Turner's albums just as much... Wow! That said, I've got to say Turner because there is more material.
All excellent singers, but I'm a JLT fan, perhaps because he's loaded with Soul and you can hear the early Motown and R&B influences. His solo work is really beautiful.
DIO was always another level and had unique style by the time and more technical, which suited Rainbow the best. Ronnie Romero is phenomenal singer, he can nail any Deep Purple singers and DIO on top. But he didn't bring anything new on the table. He still has things to proof.
Man this is a hard one.. I actually like them all depending on the song(s). If i was made to pick one, I'd most likely go with the powerful vocals of Ronnie James Dio. Thanks Ken! Great channel brother, always very interesting!
I've seen Dio 3 times at the Ogden theater here in Colorado and he was spot on all 3 shows. No doubt in my mind who's better. Dio is one the best ever at the vocal craft.
uh oooooooohhhh......rock and roll! Man, i love to listen to dio with headphones. He has always been the hardest guy for me to sing. I just dont have the same sound so i stay away but learn so much from his minimalization and modification of where to go in a vowel. Hearing you explain it makes it make even more sense. Thank you once again for a great Video! Kill the KENG!!!!!! Joe Lynn Turner had a velvet tone, loved his work with malmsteen....Clean as can be
I myself just started listening to Rainbow very recently. I got a Greatest Hits compilation, and as I was listening to it, I noticed one of the lead singers had a very familiar voice (other than Dio's). It was Joe Lynn Turner, and as I was listening to his vocals, I just kept thinking "this sounds just like Lou Gramm". If you told me that Lou Gramm sang for Rainbow when he wasn't singing for Foreigner, I would've totally believed you until I looked it up. By the way, I'm really digging Rainbow. A lot of cool prog rock, hard rock, and some neoclassical stuff in there. And of course, their more radio-friendly pop-rock stuff. Very wide range of sounds.
JLT definitely had the edge for melodic and bluesy tones. Like his style. JLT was actually in the process of doing vocals with Mick Jones when a few of the songs were being recorded for Foreigner’s Inside Information Album. When Lou learned about this, he wrapped up his 1987 solo tour and cooler head’s prevailed.
I know most will hate my opinion, but, as hard as I love and like Dio, I have my heart and admiration on Joe Lynb Turner's charisma , voice, and performance..and well, I'll be checking the others on the video... =)
I gotta say, Dio singing Stargazer is some of the best vocals I've ever heard. Really stuck in my mind, and I still listen to it every now and then and it still blows me away. Ronnie Ramiro sounded great but Dio just killed it. What a legend.

Dio is the greatest of all time. Bonnet was absolutely phenomenal though on Michael Schenker Assault Attack and Alcatrazz No Parole for Rock n Roll!
Joe Lynn Turner was perfect for the more commercial, radio friendly sound of the early/mid 80's. The right man at the right time.
Check out his mid 80s solo stuff and fandango 😎
I am really impressed by JLT's later work Undercover 1 and 2 he has clean rasp belt mix you name it
I really hoped you would do Rainbow someday, I'm excited, will watch it instantly.
God bless you, ann! Take care.
Love Ronnie James Dio and
Joe Lynn Turner. Joe Lynn
Turner has the melodic vocals
that I love.💜 I always favor
Ronnie James Dio the most.
He always sang awesome and
so effortlessly.
No one can top Ronnie James
Dio.🤘👍
RIP Ronnie James Dio 🙏
Ronnie James Dio was a belter supreme. Bonnet was amusing but out of his depth. Turner was a fine melodic rock singer. Dio had something unique the others lacked.
Spot on
Seen all line ups of rainbow Joe and Ronnie were the best
I'm so glad!
One of my favorite analysis videos. I come back to it often as I explore more of Rainbow 's phases and content.
Joe Lynn Turner was so, so great. So was Dio, of course.
Dio is just godlike. (RIP)
Hearing Graham was an eye opener, love his vocals in "Lost In Hollywood"
Miss him so much each day 'til 13 years now ...
🤘🏼😔
Great singers, but Dio is the voice !!!!
I'm studying about Rainbow.
Wow!! Lot of members.😮😅😊
Loved joe lynn turner with malmsteen and then the deep purple album he did, never heard him with rainbow before
I got to agree with you Ken. It’s Joe Lynn Turner for me also.
Street of dreams is an epic tune and his voice is awesome on it
Graham is one of a kind. He is unbelievable singer.
Great vid Ken, it's unfortunate that it can be hard to find decent footage of live performances. All the Rainbow singers are great, so I knew this would be an interesting vid.
Cheers
Epic 😮 great job. Switch 625 next please?
Hey Ken! Great to see you. FYI: Dio left Rainbow in 1979 to replace Ozzie in Sabbath. The Munich concert was 1977. I love Joe Lynn Turner. 😃
Loved JLT in Rainbow. Difficult to Cure was an amazing album!
I have a signed CD copy of "Bent out of Shape" from Him
THANK YOU!!!!
Gooosh
Awesome!
Top metal singers, for mer, the great, great, Rob Halford, other great singers, Klaus Meine of Scorpions and Tony Martin, the later period of Black Sabbath,
@@larsnilsson8949 spot on. Halford is by far the greatest heavy metal singer of all time.
Beautiful analysis Ken I love it🥰🔥🤘🤘 Rock n Roll baby🔥🔥🤘🤘
Hey Ken! Can't believe your cover of Mistreated was five years ago. Is it possible that your singing has gotten even better since then? Lol! Just kidding, of course it has! Simply awesome. 🏆🏆🏆
Wow, thank you!
@@kentamplin You're welcome Ken!😎
One of your best videos Ken!
Love the amount of information in this one!
Awesome! Thank you!
A creepy sound? 😳 That man can sing anything . Rainbow Eyes is worthy of a whole breakdown ✨️
They all brought unique vocal perspectives to the band. Very talented group of vocalists
Can't beat Bonnet. Absolutely brilliant!!
Wow. Thank you for this , I did ask and you pulled it out of the bag , I’m such a happy camper right now. , I love these vlogs , Keep them coming Ken.
You are so welcome!
Surprised how much of the lower chording DIO could get into his Tenor sound , especially being small in stature.
Describing Glenn Hughes as " Tubular" or slightly closed in from "full voice" may be accurate.
I see a good example with Ozzy singing " oh lord, yeah!" on B4 in War Pigs adding lower chording , where as replacement singer Ray Gillen closes off the lower chording and goes up B4 C Db instead of B4 to A4
Great point about Ronnie singing Db
It has the tone of an Ahh vowel on A4.
Glenn is my favorite singer.
Not for replacing Dio though
Dio like myself are natural giant killers it's in are blood and ancestry him with voice me with power
Congrats Ken!!! Another amazing video!!! 👏🏼👏🏼🤘🏽🤘🏽
I am going to get SLAMMED but I am going with GRAHAM BONNET, he is criminally underrated.
Hi Ken, Love this series! Great and very valuable observations. Please, never stop :)
More to come!
Ritchie Blackmore has always had a great capacity to chose special lead singer, and Ronnie Graham and Jo Lynn we’re in different ways superb singers
Tysm Ken... this made my day. Keep doing what you do... cause you do it great! peace brother
on yer site atm seeing what we can do... been a closet singer since my early 20's and now 49 think its time to take the plunge... thx again for giving me that confidence to want to move forward. peace yet again
When I 1st heard Foreigner 4. I thought it was Rainbow and Jlt. Even tho that album was out way b4 , I think Ritchie wanted to crack the USA market
Funny you say “Rescue You” sounds like a Foreigner album because not only does JLT have the Lou Gramm nuances, Al Greenwood who was Foreigner’s former keyboardist is on that album.
One of my all time favorite bands. Good review. I concur with your observations of the last incarnation too.
Joe Lynn Turner was hands down the best singer that Yngwie ever had fall into his lap! They made some Magical hits!
I don't think there's gonna be much discussion here. RJD all the way. Cheers!
Excellent stuff, Ken!
Ok Ken Tamplin, 5 minutes into this and I’m subscribed. You’re freakin amazing. May have to look into your class.
For me I personally like dio and joe turner and the singer after Joe turner over graham bonnet.
His acoustic version (in Glasgow) of Street Of Dreams is very beautiful. The Rainbow version is really cool too.
Cool video I like Rainbow a lot. Don't forget Omen and they're two singers J.D Kimball, Nikko A. Mikus.
Ronnie James Dio 100%
Rising is a masterpiece.
I understand why he left rainbow.
David Lee Roth problem.cant not sing commercially love songs
uh oooooooohhhh......rock and roll! Kill the
KENG!!!!!!
Those singers will be nowhere without Blackmore's guitar magic ✨✨✨
Please, Eric Adams from Manowar pleeaseee!!!. Fantastic video, i love your works!.
Great suggestion!
@@kentamplin i have very high quality Manowar live videos on my channel for your analysis!. Take a look!. Greetings from Paraguay!.
First of the series I am able to watch..missed the others but I'll soon check out.
Thanks for the great stuff as always Ken!
I know most will hate my opinion, but, as hard as I love and like Dio, I have my heart and admiration on Joe Lynb Turner's charisma , voice, and performance..and well, I'll be checking the others on the video...
=)
