If you liked this flick as much as it showed (awesome posting btw), it would be cool if you tried the Mindhunter show produced by Fincher. It was about the early days of serial-killer profiling at the FBI. Only a couple of seasons and you'll wish there was more.
Yeah, lol, it was one thing watching Downey Jr and Ruffalo act together again in the MCU... but it was pretty funny watching Jake come in just as Downey 'left'. The biggest irony back then was that I've always thought of Jake as the perfect Banner. Oh well, lol.

One of my favourite films ever. Graysmith wrote a book about the film last year, where he documented the process of writing the screenplay and early production. Supposedly Fincher would only agree to make the film if he thought what they were presenting was the truth. He along with the two writers investigated the case themselves and uncovered new evidence.

  • @kurtisschilk1218

For clarification "Melvin" as played by Brian Cox was celebrity attorney Melvin Belli who was a regular fixture on the late 60s/70s U.S. media landscape, TV talk shows, variety shows and a memorable role for one episode on the OG Star Trek. He cooperated with police to act as bait- someone a disturbed criminal might be willing to talk to. Of course the media savy Belli knew the publicity value of attaching himself to such a sensational case.

The movie is on the real life Zodiac killer but the movie itself is based upon a book by Robert Graysmith who is played by Jake Gyllenhaal in this movie. So while most can be considered accurate, some can also be considered unproven. Namely as to suspected actual identity of the Zodiac killer which is unnerving. Still nonetheless I saw this movie in theaters and being also that I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, there were a lot of people in the theater to watch. I love this movie from the story telling, the actors involved. The way San Francisco bay area in those eras are captured, namely the city of San Francisco itself. Almost like the city is a character as well. And of course David Fincher's direction.

A big problem back then was the lack of computerized file keeping... We didn't get our system until 1990.. so no information got shared between departments.. and many departments weren't into sharing information anyway.. This was a good movie..

Here's another movie you should check out and is the perfect double bill to watch with Zodiac. The movie is called The Boston Strangler from 1968 with a great cast starring Tony Curtis (Jamie Lee Curtis's dad and Janet Lee's ex, Janet Lee being in Psycho), and Henry Fonda. Also with a slew of great character actors including Jaws Mayor Murray Hamilton, directed by Richard Fleischer.

Movie recommendation: Shot Caller (2017) starring among many others Nikolaj Coster-Walday (Jamie Lannister you know) and Jon Bernthal. Family man Nikolaj makes a mistake and winds up in a California state prison, and once inside it's sink or swim. His time in prison is told in flashbacks, while we follow current day Nikolaj as he at the start of the movie is released from prison, and he struggles to complete a deal he can't back out from. Fantastic performances, and with a haunting score. The last movie that had me this gripped was Sicario (2015), and that's saying something.
