Tony ‘The Ant’ Spilotro was portrayed brilliantly and accurately right down to the resemblance. The scene when he’s with his lawyer, trying to get away from reporters is frame by frame realistic to the point that the real lawyer plays himself…then became mayor.
The lady playing the underboss's mother in the grocery store was the director's mother. The fellow playing the curly headed enforcer who was involved in many of the murders at the end was Frank Culotta, who actually was an Outfit gangster/enforcer. He was also a consultant for the film and the inspiration for the Frank Vincent character.
One of the best movies ever. Your reactions were pretty much mine when I saw this as a kid. It was depressing but a great movie. And Scorcese does such an intricate job with the story line and the hits and the circumstances leading up to every situation
Joe Pesci said that the scene in the desert where he yells and curses at D’Nero when D’Nero just pulls back and let’s Pesci curse him out was significant, because as he said “no one reems D’Nero like that.” So it meant a lot that he was willing to pull back and let it happen in the scene.
Sharon Stone was awesome in this because she is truly one of the worst fictional characters I’ve ever seen in a film. I absolutely despise her in Casino. Great job, Sharon.
What she could of been. She let Lester fuck it all up. If not fir him she could have been a queen. And he was such a piece of shit I don't know why she couldn't leave him alone
The hitman at the end that shoots the guy in the parking lot and then the guy in white in the top of the head "where you goin jagoff" is the real Frank Cullotta, played by Frank Vincent in this movie.

Great reaction as always, thank you! Since you mentioned the adorable mother in the film who hated hearing her son swear…that was Catherine Scorsese, Martin’s real life mom. ❤️ She has been in several of Martin’s movies, including GoodFellas, playing Pesci’s mom. Loved seeing her in his films. 🙂
Frank Culotta who was an actual hit man of that time was in the movie as the old hit man and also helped with the authenticity of the characters. The character Frankie who is Nick's right hand man is him of that time.
I think she should have won. Just her opening scene where she’s so beautiful and appealing in spite of being a walking red flag - I mean, you can see both at the same time, that’s extremely impressive to pull off. I don’t know who beat her for the Oscar but I can’t believe that her performance was better than Stone’s.
@@MDK2_Radio I was wrong. She was nominated for Bedt Actress not Supporting. But the actresses nominated for Best Actress in 1996 are all incredible. Susan Sarandon won for Dead Man Walking. Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas), Meryl Streep (The River Wild) and Emma Thompson (Sense and Sensibility) were all nominated that year. I agree though Stone should have won. She did win the Golden Globe though.
@@johnnyboy7144 I honestly think the Academy didn’t take her seriously as an actress in Casino even though she was fantastic. She had been mostly known for so called “junk food” films like Basic Instinct and Total Recall before that. She was great in both of those don’t get me wrong but those are the kind of films the Academy looks down on. To be honest if she had been nominated for Best Supporting Actress that year I think she would have won easily. That was a much weaker field with Mira Sorvino winning for Mighty Aphrodite.
This is my favorite Robert De Niro movie. The character he plays is so logical and has such good common sense yet he doesn’t take crap from anybody. Goodfellas has always been my favourite film (tied with the LotR trilogy) and I never really liked Casino all that much when I watched it as a teenager and in my early twenties, I always thought it spent too much time on Sam and Ginger and not enough time with the juicy mob stuff that I like, but as I got older I started to like it more and more. Goodfellas is still #1 but Casino is fantastic too. Especially Nicky. I have no idea how Joe Pesci ended up being one of the scariest guys on TV in the 1990's when he's barely 5 feet tall but holy shit he's one scary dude.
I prefer casino because you also get the history of such a unique city like Las Vegas in it. Also, the lighting, set design, wardrobe, hair are so accurate, plus the beautiful opening titles by Saul Bass.
So the lawyer with him is the real lawyer and he also was the mayor of Las Vegas 12 years ago for 12 years and then his wife is the current mayor. Also when he was mayor he had a rule to get a filming license in Las Vegas he had to be included in a scene of your movie.
I grew up in Reno, NV and my dads side of the family always had stories to tell about the mob there and in Vegas. I love this movie as for pretty much it’s damn near accurate with what happened in real life, down to the toxic relationship.
Scorcese's gangster movies are weird... They're more often than not about the absolute scum of the earth - people with a completely twisted set of morals. And they're totally enjoyable.
I know years ago, 2 mob bodies were found in an Indiana cornfield, beaten and buried in just their underwear. Also, just outside Chicago, a mob boss was shot several times in the head with a .22, walking to his car in a restaurant parking lot. He actually survived. Always thought those scenes in the movie were inspired from that.
Very good analysis of the movie. I have to agree with you - it’s a lot to pack into one movie. Today it would probably have been a mini-series or even a show on one of the streaming services.
Awesome reaction! Ty Caped! Loved the way you got so pulled into their relationship from the word go. I just watched your reaction to Goodfellas a few days ago so this was perfect timing. The cinematography in this film was so stylish back then and felt almost "glossy" on the big screen. It was also fashionable to begin the movies with the end. Great cast, great film, great director. However, I definitely prefer Goodfellas.
The reason why Joe Pesci is so good at playing mob guys. Is because he sort of grew up around mob guys. Two of his uncles were in the mob. The neighborhood he grew up in was full of gangsters.
My grandmother was spending $90k a year at the local casino's. I was her bodyguard and went with her. Every once in a while she'd toss me a $20 bill and say get lost. I sat there and watched her play for 10 hours a day. For years I studied my local casino's inside and out looking for an advantage. I finally found a loophole and started winning. Every time my grandmother tossed me $20 I turned it into $500. I was bringing in $5000 a week. I got greedy and the casino caught on. It was fun while it lasted. I didn't get rich but I enjoyed every minute of it.
So this was based on a true story and real people. And just so you know most enforcers in real life were and are not usually big guys compared to what people imagine an enforcer should look like. They mistake security with enforcer. And one thing that is still true today and one reason I love living here so much is yes Vegas is the land of side hustle and handshake deals
If you liked 'Snatch' you must watch 'Snatch Wars' on RUclips where they dub Snatch over Star Wars. It's 8 mins long but it's clever and hysterically funny.

I always felt Goodfellas was a better story but Casino a better movie. The sound track and flow of this is so unique. great review👍
Very good analysis of the movie. I have to agree with you - it’s a lot to pack into one movie. Today it would probably have been a mini-series or even a show on one of the streaming services.
21:30 your face/that shock 😂. THAT'S why I watch these reaction videos.
Great review and reaction @
So glad you reacted to this!
I like both Goodfellas and Casino, but I liked Casino a little bit better. Also, Once Upon a Time in America was really good too.
"When it comes down to fast money, people always find a way."
More wise words.
Great reaction bro! 👍👍
This is based on the Stardust casino. You should look into this stuff. Very interesting.
The real Ginger (Geri McGee) dated Robert Redford in high school.
The reason why Joe Pesci is so good at playing mob guys. Is because he sort of grew up around mob guys. Two of his uncles were in the mob. The neighborhood he grew up in was full of gangsters.
35:49...I'm pretty sure this guy was a real cop. I recall seeing him in a couple of episodes of the T.V. show, COPS.
So……. What loophole did you find?
@@dennisjr77 right? Lol. Shaaaare!
.... And the loophole is?
cool story bro. No you didn’t.
Found a loophole with video roulette as well.. you won’t get caught if you just switch casinos often 😜
Great movie. Yes those hits were ruthless. Awesome reaction as usual. Thanks for the good content.
Idk if you’ve seen The Departed yet but that is another Scorsese fast paced crime drama you’d like
My movie recommendations for you

Battle Royale
Taxi Driver
Punch-Drunk Love
Zodiac
O’ Brother Where Art thou
Excelente film..una obra de arte
So this was based on a true story and real people. And just so you know most enforcers in real life were and are not usually big guys compared to what people imagine an enforcer should look like. They mistake security with enforcer. And one thing that is still true today and one reason I love living here so much is yes Vegas is the land of side hustle and handshake deals
If you liked 'Snatch' you must watch 'Snatch Wars' on RUclips where they dub Snatch over Star Wars. It's 8 mins long but it's clever and hysterically funny.
