Yes, to die side by side with that character after that epic solo would grant us both access to Valhalla, and if not then on to another epic battle taking Valhalla.
The fact that Eddie's actor was actually playing in real time too is incredibly impressive. I love this show's attention to detail, use of diegetic sounds, and practical effects.
I was so hoping his actor actually shredded this solo instead of it just being a stunt double or whatever the equal to that would be. A character's role always comes through the best when the actor fully embraces the role.
It’s so cool. What they did was they got Rob Trujillo’s (Metallica bassist) son to record the guitar for this, but Joseph actually played the song while filming this scene. I’m a metalhead myself, I know this whole song like it’s the back of my own band and watching his hands it is clear he actually knew what he was doing! God i love this scene and i love this show.
Fun fact: Eddie didn't actually die from those bats, it was actually his back snapped from carrying the entire season Edit: I know everybody was great this season, to the people who took this comment quite literally, I was merely being hyperbolic for fun. No disrespect to the other great actors and characters intended.
my dad was a big Metallica fan and we started watching stranger things when it first came out and sadly he passed last year, but I just know he would’ve LOVED Eddie in season 4 and absolutely LOVED this scene. Literally the whole time I was watching I was imagining what his exact reaction to this scene would be and thinking oh man, look at what your missing out on 🥺
I didn’t realize he said, “ Chrissy, this is for you.” That makes this scene even better. He’s affected by her death too, but unlike the jock bf, Eddie directs his efforts constructively. Not starting a freaking mob. Hawkins true hero.
Dustin isn't lying when he says "most metal ever!" Eddie Munson just played Master of Puppets in a dark alternate dimension full of deadly monsters and a creepy red storm. Nothing can beat that.
That is the most badass thing any mortal could do! Playing metal rock in an alternate dimension while being swarmed by demo-bats as lightning storms in the background! Eddie Munson is a legend! ⚡️🎸⚡️🎸⚡️

Let’s take a moment to really think about how awesome Eddie really is: Season 4 takes place in Spring of 1986. Master Of Puppets was released just before Spring in 1986. This means that Eddie learned and mastered this, one of the most difficult down picking songs ever, in a couple months. And he played it perfectly under all that pressure. Most. Metal. Ever.
"In their last moments, people show you who they really are.." The Chrissy this is for you line shows just exactly what kind of person Eddie was. Risked his own life trying to save the world and avenge a girl he barely knew b/c he has compassion. Never judge a book by it's cover
He also chose to sacrifice himself when he could have left with Dustin. Decided this time I'm not going to run. If he went back with Dustin the bats may have followed through the gate and invaded Hawkins. True hero.
Well he barely knew her, but he clearly had feelings for her. I mean if they hadn't both died, who knows, maybe Eddie and Chrissy would have ended up together.
@cameroncalger8724 he was, but I definitely got the sense that he was crushing on her. I mean look at him, trying to impress her by talking about his nand.
Being a guitar player, it's typically pretty easy to spot when somebody is faking it for a movie. It's cool to know Joseph actually knows what he's doing. It makes the scene that much more badass.
@@ericagibson9814 not true, one of the guys from Metallica son actually played the solo… Joseph said hes a guitarist, but not a metal guitarist in an interview about the scene
@@kamoflawedhawg535 He actually "played" the song though. What they did was have Joseph play the song and they dubbed the son playing over it. Because Joseph goes note for note with the song as it's played. If you know how to play the song you can watch him play it just fine in the show.
He was damn afraid of these all paranormal things, but he kept going despite everything. That's the definition of hero. Dustin was right, when he told his uncle that Eddie was a hero
@@stevel7798 agreed but the “i didnt run this time” thing annoyed me lol, he already had his hero moment, stopping to face the bats instead of continuing to distract them on his bike was just idiotic and made no sense. was just a dumb way of killing the character:/
@@billaniii Yeah that bugged me too. He should have been a permanent addition to the cast. But I guess you never know who the fans resonate with while you're filming.
OMG, I sobbed through the entire scene from the point where Eddie decided to turn the bats' attention on himself all the way through until past the point where he died. Then, later in the episode, I sobbed again when Dustin was talking to Eddie's uncle and told him Eddie died a hero. I'm even getting choked up just typing this 😭
It's crazy how this character was so obviously telegraphed to die and yet the writing and acting came together in the perfect way to make him an immediate icon in the fandom. I have my issues with season 4 but Eddie Munson is one of the greatest things this show gave us; there's nothing more reassuring than someone who makes you feel like it's okay to be who you are, and Joseph's performance carries such genuine big brother energy that you can't help but love him. Eddie was a hero long before he went to the Upside Down, because he was a dude who went out of his way to let people who feel out of place know they aren't alone.
I feel you man. As much as I love Stranger Things, I really hate how they keep writing characters like Alexei and Eddie essentially just into death. It’s a shame. But overall, really well written character and AMAZING solo.

I’m Gen X and I took my kids to the Pantera and Metallica show last night in Dallas. My kids are 22, 12, and 9, and they’ve been raised around metal so they knew most everything played but when they played Master of Puppets I watched little kids jam out and sing along and it made me so happy to see these newer generations feeling it. Thank you Stranger Things for helping keep metal alive 🤘🏻
What I love about eddie is he is being true to himself. He doesn't do what he does because he thinks it's cool, he does it because he enjoys it! He plays DnD even though most kids think its weird. He acts playful and crazy not because its a trend, but because it really is his personality. He doesn't act tough and strong, he knows to himself that he isn't a hero type. Everything he does is the true reflection of himself! Even in his last breath, he never stopped being himself. Eddie probably saved alot of people even before vecna. He saved alot of bullied and rejected kids from their loneliness. Eddie is a true hero.
i feel like they were considering him or steve, considering how they were both older brother figures to dustin, but i dont think people would forgive them for steve

Hey he was left in the upside down, while it may seem sad, think about how badass it would be if Eddie came back as a soldier of the Mind Flayer his guitar leading the charge of demo-beasts, and he comes through the gate playing something like Stranger in a Strange Land or Power Slave by Iron Maiden
@@PrincessZelda_is_My_Side_Chick These two along with imo Eleven closing the gate are the best epic scenes in the series, but there's also a few of the smaller just characters talking moments that I would say are just as good.
Not one character should give the vibes of being permanent. In a show where every season is dangerous they should put their characters in danger. Although I would’ve rather them killing off someone from the main cast since season 1 since it would’ve been more impactful and it would’ve given one of their best characters more than a season to shine.
Honestly I think his death was easily foreshadowed and seen by the fans BUT he was immortalized like someone else said here. Now when I think of Stranger Things this scene and his death will be with me. The man was running for his life since like episode 1 but he finally decided to do something brave and yeah he died but he died knowing he helped save the day.
Honestly, while his death was sad, what was he going to do if he made it out alive, everyone thought he was the one killing all of the teens. Heck, even afterwards, everyone blamed his "cult" for the "earthquake" so he was screwed regardless. Honestly I think him dying was the best possible option for what could have happened to him because he died a hero rather than a coward.
Honestly, This was perfect! Think about it, Everyone will know who he is, what he did, and how he ended, A true metal head. The kind of folks who run to danger like its a slumber party, that’ll take meaning of “Having balls” 30 levels up because these kinda folks are not the average joes hell even gangsters show them proper respect because being an OG is nothing like a rockstar we all know it. and Eddie Munson is the prime example of WHO THEY ARE. Legends withen a few moments
Negative every single character on the show is equally amazing it's just he is the coolest no argument there but make no mistake no one's the best they all are that's what makes the show so great.
When you realize that Eddie didn’t even need to play a song; he literally could have just strummed the guitar and hit whatever cords but he chose to play Metallica because that’s how metal he is
I love it when Eddie said "Chrissy this is for you" before he started playing, he wasn't running away anymore, he was doing his part to help stop Vecna and save Max, but also try to avenge Chrissy's death.
The saddest part about this entire scene is that Eddie fought and died just as Dustin said - being Eddie. He never changed. His battle cry was for Chrissy and he fought those bats with a smile and integrity yet Hawkins residents will always believe he was a cult member doing human sacrifice doing the work of Satan because he played D&D. I'm glad Dustin at least got to tell his uncle that he truly did die a Hero!! 🤘
That right there, what he told Eddie's uncle was abosultey heart wrenching. And even if the town never realizes the sacrifice Eddie made, Dustin and Eddie's uncle will always know he was innocent and died fighting the evil he was accused of to protect his home and community that hated him.
I think after the town starts to get taken over by monsters and Vecna there's a chance people might be more open to hear that all those kids have been fighting against it, not summoning it. I don't expect the perfect happy ending but I hope the writers find a way for his reputation post-life to be restored.
What makes Eddie even more of a badass is that in the timeline of the show Master Of Puppets had released only weeks prior to this! Chrissy died on the 21st, then Eddie immediately went on the run which means he only had 18 days to learn it since he didn’t have his guitar while on the run. Now that’s dedication to your favorite band.
@@shdwviper I’m not sure of the date that Eddie dies. But it’s confirmed that Chrissy was killed on the 21st and Eddie immediately went on the run. Which means he didn’t have his guitar that entire time until he grabbed it from his house in the upside down with Dustin just prior to this scene. Which means he definitely learned it by ear in 18 days. That’s just insane!
@@bendavidjohn Possibly, but this show stresses that it takes place in the 80’s and picks it’s songs carefully. I think they made sure with the timelines.

Later civilisations who don't even speak English will be trying to work out the significance of "This is for you Chrissy" and why this man said it before shredding in beast mode.
@@MACnCHEESE110 you’re right, this is going to be the MOST iconic scene and we will be showing our kids and grandkids this scene for generations to come
Eddie did this to avenge Chrissy’s death, help his friends and save other residents Hawkins from Vecna's rain of terror. And he did it, he truly avenged her death and saved everyone.
Dustin is the most ride or die character of the show. All of season 3 he looked up to Steve so much he even said it "if you die, I die" and then here he looked up to Eddie enough to do it again and stay at his side even though death was creeping towards them so Eddie wouldn't be alone. God damn what an awesome scene.
not sure if anyone’s already said this, but this scene takes place in late March of 1986, and Master of Puppets initially released March 3rd of the same year, which means Eddie learned how to shred this song in less than a month! and if you really get down to it, Eddie probably wasn’t practicing while he was banished, so that means it probably took him even less time, maybe two weeks? and it’s safe to assume that he couldn’t get a tab book or anything in hawkins to learn it yet so he may have even played it by ear. THATS CRAZY. EDDIE RULES.
His survivors trauma from Chrissy's death wouldn't have let him live on. Nor would Hawkins have believed him to be innocent. This was THE ABSOLUTE BEST way to part ways with our beloved hero. What a scene.
Love that he dedicates the song to Chrissy, a girl he barely knew, but still saw the value she had as a person that was cut short by Vecna. The war began with a defiant cry for those already lost.
"I think you're asking me to go to Mordor with you." Eddie didn't just go to Mordor, he played a kickass concert in Mordor and went out a hero and a legend!
Agreed, the whole season was just so good. I'm not a huge fan of ST but this season got me hooked. This scene in particular is so good it made me get Avengers endgame vibes.
The producer's nailed this. Master of puppets released 1986, same year as this season takes place. Eddie character being the type of guy to obsess with Metallica and would have been practicing that song non-stop. The lyrics literally describe vecna. And that shot with Eddie in the upside down shredding is spine chilling. MOST METAL EVER
I had expected Raining Blood by Slayer, also released in 1986 and would’ve been an equally great fit, but I think that came out later in the year. So I was stoked they picked Master of Puppets. I’m not sure they’d go as heavy as Slayer in a universally popular tv show like this either unfortunately, Metallica is more accessible to the mainstream. This is still one of the most metal scenes I’ve ever seen.
The actor that plays Eddie said that the script was written with this song in mind, so maybe they created Vecna's personality in a way that would conform to the lyrics of this song
Even better again master of puppets was released on march 3rd 1986 and this season is based in late march 1986 meaning Eddie only had a few weeks to learn the whole song
The scene where he’s tells Dustin to “never change” is what gave away he was going to die. Foreshadowing at its finest. R.I.P. to the absolute Legend Eddie Munson 🤘🏼
As soon as he said that, my husband said, "Yep. He's dead." I didn't want to admit it, but as a writer, I knew that he was probably right! The entire time I just sat there sadly waiting for his demise....
I know they've basically said it won't happen, but if they don't bring Eddie back as "Kas The Bloody-Handed", I'm gonna be LIVID. They hinted at it so hard in this season and it would fit so perfectly. The bat tattoo, bat puns, actual bats, Eddie being ashamed of being a coward, then becoming a hero by sacrificing himself to help save his friends, dying via BATS. Not to mention the fact that it seems like anyone who dies in the Upside Down is eventually used as a weapon or pawn. It would only make sense for Vecna to revive Eddie as some sort of twisted version of himself and use him, just as the mind flayer used Billy. Then, towards the end, have Eddie/Kas snap out of it and turn against Vecna to give his friends the upper hand.

my dad was a big Metallica fan and we started watching stranger things when it first came out and sadly he passed last year, but I just know he would’ve LOVED Eddie in season 4 and absolutely LOVED this scene. Literally the whole time I was watching I was imagining what his exact reaction to this scene would be and thinking oh man, look at what your missing out on 🥺

This will forever be the most badass scene in the entire series!
I didn’t realize he said, “ Chrissy, this is for you.” That makes this scene even better. He’s affected by her death too, but unlike the jock bf, Eddie directs his efforts constructively. Not starting a freaking mob. Hawkins true hero.
Just a great dude. UGHHHHHA!
Jason just used the other tragedies for attention for the basketball team. He was an awful person.
I also agree with the show lol?
Yes you are awesome ❤️🌹🥰🤗
If Chrissy and Eddie got together than Jason would probably have Chrissy burned at the stake as a witch
Dustin isn't lying when he says "most metal ever!"
Eddie Munson just played Master of Puppets in a dark alternate dimension full of deadly monsters and a creepy red storm. Nothing can beat that.
Red storm or red tunder?🤣🤣🤣🤣
With a guitar that exists in the dark dimension
The fact that the time this happened Eddie had under a month to learn the Song, makes Him even more metal
Eddie shredded in Hell!
Bitting off one of the Upside Down bat’s head just like what Ozzy Osborne did in 82 woulda been the icing on the cake lol
That is the most badass thing any mortal could do! Playing metal rock in an alternate dimension while being swarmed by demo-bats as lightning storms in the background! Eddie Munson is a legend! ⚡️🎸⚡️🎸⚡️

Justice for Eddie! This season’s Barb.
Not only a hero, he’s a legend
Bob. Barbra, Alexi, Eddie. Hero’s love forever
Such a hero! Just like Bob.
Knew he was a hero ever since he started fighting the bats
Let’s take a moment to really think about how awesome Eddie really is: Season 4 takes place in Spring of 1986. Master Of Puppets was released just before Spring in 1986. This means that Eddie learned and mastered this, one of the most difficult down picking songs ever, in a couple months. And he played it perfectly under all that pressure. Most. Metal. Ever.

Thirty seconds before certain death and Eddie is like: ''I hear you bro, but I need to rip this epic solo first.''

The Chrissy this is for you line shows just exactly what kind of person Eddie was. Risked his own life trying to save the world and avenge a girl he barely knew b/c he has compassion. Never judge a book by it's cover
Yep. He died defending a town that hated him.
He also chose to sacrifice himself when he could have left with Dustin. Decided this time I'm not going to run. If he went back with Dustin the bats may have followed through the gate and invaded Hawkins. True hero.

Being a guitar player, it's typically pretty easy to spot when somebody is faking it for a movie. It's cool to know Joseph actually knows what he's doing. It makes the scene that much more badass.
Did he actually play it?
If you watch interviews he did play it, he played the guitar when he was young.

He was damn afraid of these all paranormal things, but he kept going despite everything. That's the definition of hero. Dustin was right, when he told his uncle that Eddie was a hero
Rest in Peace, Eddie Munson
You had the most metal solo ever :(
He’s truly ascended the Stairway To Heaven now, even though to most in Hawkins he’s travelling the Highway To Hell

Told him 20 seconds and dropped straight to the solo that was bad ass
That was his "now or never" moment
I still hoped that the people who judged eddie instead knowing him, saw this side of him. I love eddie, he will always be my hero.
Eddie "I didn't run away this time right?". Honestly that made me, an adult man cry.
I still can't think about it without tearing up
So true, bestie 😭
OMG, I sobbed through the entire scene from the point where Eddie decided to turn the bats' attention on himself all the way through until past the point where he died. Then, later in the episode, I sobbed again when Dustin was talking to Eddie's uncle and told him Eddie died a hero. I'm even getting choked up just typing this 😭
I read this in tears😭😭😭
All the above are true ... 💔💔😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
You got it, thanks for putting it into words

I went to that one! Saw a few folks dressed like Eddie! Loved that show
I was there too! It was my first Metallica show and it did not disappoint!

Even facing death, this dude was jamming hard and feeling it. I'm pissed they killed him off.. He should've been a permanent character.

Perhaps given that Iron Maiden have given their blessing to this Eddie he could be be reborn as Eddie the Head in the Upside Down as a hero
What makes Eddie even more of a badass is that in the timeline of the show Master Of Puppets had released only weeks prior to this! His survivors trauma from Chrissy's death wouldn't have let him live on. Nor would Hawkins have believed him to be innocent. This was THE ABSOLUTE BEST way to part ways with our beloved hero. What a scene.
Thank you, I couldnt comprehend why my sudden favorite character was ripped away from me so fast but I like this way of thinking.
True
Yeah if he showed up he would still be charged with Chrissy’s death. Let him die a hero.
Yeah your right:-\
Also the fact that he was a new character in a Stranger Things season, pretty good indicator that he would be killed off.
My girlfriend got me into watching Stranger Things. I completely lost it when Eddie played Master of Puppets! Like “HELL YEAH!! BEST SHOW EVER!!!”
Eddie is the best, he is a metalhead, who plays D&D, and risked his life to save a town that hated him. He is a giga chad.
Other than the fact that he did drugs
@@Dumb_Stupid_Idiot that makes him cooler. Kids, do drugs.
@@trenchhj amen to that ! *roll a joint*
@@Dumb_Stupid_Idiot Including the fact, you mean..?

Love that he dedicates the song to Chrissy, a girl he barely knew, but still saw the value she had as a person that was cut short by Vecna.
The war began with a defiant cry for those already lost.
Actually he knew her for a long time
@@wwe8064 one day?
@@VivaLaDnDLogs he knew her since middle school
@@manuelazemichael8726 how many people from your middle school would you challenge a dark wizard to avenge?
He actually had a crush on her I believe
"I think you're asking me to go to Mordor with you."
Eddie didn't just go to Mordor, he played a kickass concert in Mordor and went out a hero and a legend!
Kind of Aragorn playing it at the Black Gate to get Saurons Eye in him. Legend.
YESSS!!! 🙌🏼
He walked into Mordor and flipped off Sauron to come and get him
Steve: "I still have no goddamn clue what Mordor is!!!"
He also died, just like Boromir
Been against popular shows, decided to watch it this weekend since I had nothing to do, Eddie Munson was my favorite character.
One of, if not THE coolest scene in television history.
*_LOL_*
Facts... parallel dimensions, lightning storms and smashing out Metallica in a caravan to a sea of demo bat fans ... 🔥🔥🔥
I swear
Agreed, the whole season was just so good. I'm not a huge fan of ST but this season got me hooked. This scene in particular is so good it made me get Avengers endgame vibes.
damn this is cool but now venture into anime history oh boi you’ll be thrilled
The producer's nailed this. Master of puppets released 1986, same year as this season takes place. Eddie character being the type of guy to obsess with Metallica and would have been practicing that song non-stop. The lyrics literally describe vecna. And that shot with Eddie in the upside down shredding is spine chilling. MOST METAL EVER
Literally when I hear the guitar I was like perfect song for vecna
Agreed like without a doubt one of my favorite TV show scenes of all time now. not just in stranger things, of literally all time
The scene where he’s tells Dustin to “never change” is what gave away he was going to die.
@@gettingthereblog yeah the entire season was very predictable
My hero 😍 🎸🤘
@@gettingthereblog I mean, when he was the only character without plot armor that people would actually care died...yeah.
That's predictable. That's not foreshadowing 'at it's finest' lol. Still a great character, though
For people who didn’t know, the subtitles for when Eddie starts playing simply say: “Shreds guitar solo”.
😂
Ohhh…that HAS to hurt James, Lars & Kurt (R.I.P. Cliff)
Shredding in the upside down
I mean, its not wrong.....
Amazing.
You knew when Eddie said “I’m no hero” he was going to die in the most heroic badass way possible. RIP
🤘🏼 !
They did a great job with Eddie and his uncle. I genuinely cared about both of them.
That final scene with Dustin and Eddie's uncle legitimately broke me. I couldn't handle it.
@@brandonkohler9721 SAME MAN. Of all the scenes that everyone was crying through, that’s the one I couldn’t handle. Especially if you’ve ever had to tell someone their loved one is dead like that. That shit just hit me right in the feels and brought on the waterworks.
Legit. Eddie was absolutely awesome and paid the ultimate sacrifice for a town that despised him. I hope they clear his name in the final season.
@@Jdsteele96 what made it even sadder for me was how dustin, his friends and eddie's uncle were the only ones who actually knew how amazing of a guy he was. he risked his life to save hawkins and everyone treated him like some sort of evil maniac cultist. that shit broke me
I've seen a lot of people ask "Who's playing the drums though?". When you have reached the level of Rock God like Eddie did, you can summon them from beyond the rift.
Beyond the riff *

I think they were referring to the gate
Either way it works
Hell, how did they find electricity in the upside down?
Lars Ulrich drank something hard - this is why.
@@thorin9876 I mean they had a gate right beneath them into the real world so all they would’ve need was an extension lead haha
3:23 this is why Dustin is my favorite Stranger Things character. his raw excitement and child-like wonder make him so endearing
Me too he is my favourite
He Carrie’s the show most of the time.
When him and Suzie sing you can see pure joy.
That's what I thought about him since the pilot.
