The Islander was one of the first planes I bought and I really love it! You should fly it around the Orkneys, Shetlands and Hebrides. There are tons of great flightsim.to airports for those islands plus all the appropriate liveries. Great fun up there!
I got the Islander a couple of weeks ago. I hear tell that a big update is in the offing, which will bring it up to something near 'study' level'. Also, some military variants will be included. As and when this update is released, it might be an idea to do another review.
Once the Trislander is out, I believe BBS is planning a study level version of the Islander. I'm on the fence about the Trislander, but a study level Islander is a day one purchase for me.
I've been fortunate enough to fly in a Trislander a couple of times. Been waiting for years for someone to make one. So im looking forward to it more than the Islander. Nice to get some variety in the sim.
A little late to this party because I was never a fav of the interior with regards to the controls and throttle. It looked a bit too FSX'ish. Its now on sale for $8 on the Marketplace so I just picked it up a few days ago and love it.
I recently picked the BN-2 Islander up really nice aircraft to fly in the sim. Watched some real life videos to try and replicate those flights in the sim particularly the Scottish island ones. Nice sounds and overall feel in flying this.
Sold. I was in 2 minds between buying the Islander or the Twin Otter, as a medium sized STOL hauler for use with NeoFly. You've sold me on the BN2 which looks great and it sounds are much better.
By the way ,just purchased the plane through the marketplace, every time i exceed 90 miles/hour the plane in the cockpit shake very much to the point of not able to fly the plane !! on the outside view seems stabel enough, could this be a poor download issue or is it normal?? looking at your flight at 120 miles ahour seems very calm and stable!!
Not a bad aircraft all in all, a few little inaccuracies here and there though. The one thing that bugs me most about this aircraft and the subsequent Trislander is the sound. As a Channel Islander, a plane-spotter and someone who lives under the flight path into runway 27 in Guernsey for 25 years, I have spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours in the presence of the noise of the Islander and Trislander, and there is just something missing. I can tell that it has not come from recordings from an actual aircraft and is a collaboration of other similar aircraft engine sounds mixed together. To be fair, it is not a bad job considering what I believe it to be, and will be sufficient for the majority, however it just doesn't hit that nostalgia button for me. Marcel Kuhnt's (wouldn't want to try and pronounce that!) version for FS9/FSX did just that though, and I even made a mix of his sounds to create the unique Aurigny Trislander sound (having 2x 3-bladed props and 1x 2-bladed prop). I am unversed in the ways of this new simulator as yet, and I don't know how easy it would be to move across.
I actually like this plane more than the tecnam. I hope they continue to make some improvements with it, but its more fun to fly than the tecnam. Personally, the tecnam has not been an enjoyable plane for me. Hopefully the twin otter comes back as a complete study level. That would be awesome
Did you match the numbers against the exact model and conditions simulated ? Unless you know the specific engine, airframe, and atmospheric conditions when/where the numbers were recorded, you cannot compare. I notice version 1.3.4 introduced updates to both engine and aerodynamics. It's worth noting - I'm no expert - just playing devils advocate.
@@jonbeckett No sir, I did not do all that. I just took a quick look at the wiki page that mentions climb performance around 860 ft/min. Then I noticed you had the plane at near max takeoff wt. and got 2000 ft/min. Seems a bit fast to me and I'm no expert either.
@@johnhubbard7384 I just loaded it into the simulator (curiosity got the better of me). After looking at the documentation that comes with it (the official docs), it's pretty complex - but I can report that the simulator replicates the documentation. In 10C air, climbing from sea level with payload (fuel + passengers + cargo) of 4000lb, without flaps at full throttle the plane climbs at about 1200ft a minute. All of those parameters will change sustained climb rate - including instantaneous climb rate of 2000 ft a minute - but not sustained.
@@jonbeckett The plane does climb way too fast sustained, should be closer to 800ft/m. The Islander isn't a fantastic climber I found that is flies more to the book when using 25"map for takeoff and 20" after 200ft AGL aas a climb/cruise setting. I took contact with Blackbox a few weeks ago on the FB, and they said they will adjust the climbrate when the study level update comes out.

They recently restarted production of this AC and it is entirely in the UK now

I grew up flying on Trislanders they are the more interesting I find
I hope they improve their exterior and interior modeling.It just doesn't look as good as Carenado,Milviz,SWS,JF products!

Yes - the blackbox aircraft are not quite as polished as some others, but they work well, and are very clear within the cockpits.
