- A quick "first flight" in the Black Square Analogue Baron in Microsoft Flight Simulator. We take it for a flight from Boonville to Ukiah, and try out some of the systems along the way. Wonderful, wonderful aircraft.

I can't wait to get my hands on this. The current Baron in MSFS is my absolute favourite plane to fly (alongside the King Air. Fly them both pretty much exclusively), and while the glass cockpits are really nice, I do love the look of classic gauges. It's absolutely beautiful. Love it.

BlackSquare are banging it out the park atm, awesome review and seems another hit, Just got the KingAir version so far, may get the Caravan next but atm don't have the base Baron. Gotta love these twins though!
They really are. This has been in development for a *very* long time though.
The Baron looks awesome. Don't forget props full forward on final, just in case of a go around. As a rule of thumb I generally go full rich for landing if field is below 3,000 ft.

I have A Baron 58 for X plane 12 with similar cockpit from Sim coders, Its fantastic!

All tapped out I am just baught a load of things for me sim, but but watching study level content from this guy never gets boring

Only trouble I had was maintaining a comfortable cabin temperature. Good thing I was alone flying. :)
Only thing I noticed was that above transition altitude, the autopilot was not maintaining the set altitude.
Interesting observation about altitude - I'll do a proper longer flight with it later to see how it goes.

Another great review and first look, loved the one for the Bonanza! I have been waiting for this one as the Baron is one of my favorite planes besides the Cessna 310. Jonathan, if you don't mind me asking, what map overlay are you using in your LNM?

We have some very good twins out there like the Coranado ones. The big issue for me is can you simulate an engine failure in flight and feather and un feather the propellers and simulate single engine flight.
Yes, yes, and yes. The failure simulation and physics in this are study level. You are going to get all of the cooling, oil, fuel, and electrical system side-effects of running on one engine. You may also get carbon monoxide issues in the cockpit to deal with :)

This looks so good, I regret not having deluxe MSFS. The Blackbird 310 is great but I like the idea of a turbo with radar and FIKI (I'm guessing it has that).
I'm pretty sure the Black Square Baron doesn't require the stock Baron to be there. It will be worth checking that.

I’m a bit addicted to the 310 these days, so when I’ve grown bored of that (eventually) I’ll try this. Ironic really as I initially got the 310 to replace the standard Baron.

I seem to remember that the spinning wheel below and center of the manifold pressure gages is an engine synchronizer, when eng's are sync'd the wheel would appear to be stopped. Is this not working on this Baron?

Hey John, if you have any experience, how would you compare this to the version found in X-plane 12, specifically in how they fly? Its the aircraft i fly the most there, and when im on MSFS as of late, I'm flying the justflight arrow, would like to get a hold of the beautiful baron again.
Now we need some good sound packs for these planes.

@@jonbeckett Yes it does! I guess I'm being a bit picky - I love my Boris Audio Works soundset for the c172s so much I wish he'd make some for other stock planes. It's an amazing difference to me at least.

You would have to ask a real Baron pilot :)
I wish this was more like the Baron that I’m flying at my school. The cockpit is completely different. And when will MSFS or XP12 get a decent G5 simulation that I can replace any attitude indicator or HSI with?
Some of the aircraft have the G5 don't they ? Have I imagined it ??
@@jonbeckett There is a default G5 I think that is pretty horrible. It’s on select few aircraft. I wan’t something a little more high fidelity, that links properly to the GPS navigators also. IRL the G5 is supposed to be able to command a Garmin autopilot all by itself.

would you recommend this over their bonanza version??
It's very, very similar - although it has things the Bonanza doesn't have - like a heating system in the nose that burns fuel and can poison the cabin with carbon monoxide if it goes wrong :) Oh - and it has two engines of course :)

This is what a sim plane should be..obviously someone can do it! But what is it with the door thing?
Why do people need working doors in a simulator ? Next people will be complaining the seats don't squish when you sit on them :)
Unfortunately as I am using the MSFS only through the Gamepass this new masterpiece will not make it into my hangar, but I am sure it's just as good and just as much fun to fly as the Bonanza.
It's just a heavier bonanza with a heater in the nose :)
Where is the setting for realistic turbulence? All I see is one setting for weather realism.
IRC it's in the assistance > piloting menu rather than weather.

Buggy like hell. Engines won't start and if you somehow manage to start them (not through magnetos though) they won't turn off. Waste of money. Caravan and King Air were decent though.
