This is the de-specialized edition which tries to be an HD master of the original version that was seen in theaters in 1977. So technically, they're not watching "Episode IV: A New Hope," they're just watching "Star Wars."
Also, I am not certain how many of these movies we will ultimately watch. I think it's certain that we will commit to the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy is also very likely. We will see how things are going after we finish the first 6 before deciding about how deep we end up going. If these do well, then I'm sure we will watch more. I am going to push Spaceballs sometime after the original trilogy as well ;)
Final note, this is Lacey's first time really watching Star Wars. Steve grew up with it and has watched it MANY times over the years. So Lacey does know (or think she knows) certain things about the movies. If those things will be revealed in future movies, they should not be answered in the comments. Neither should we confirm or deny the things she thinks she knows. All will be revealed in the proper time. And please go easy on Steve as the guide. This is his first time being the one in the know for a reaction and he's a bit nervous about saying too much. Finally (and this time I mean it) Lacey did see Episode VII in the theater when it came out, but since she lacked the context of the other films, she does not recall much about it.
May the Fourth be with you, and live long and prosper.

In my opinion, some info you think you know can hinder your thought process because either the writers didn't come up with the info you think you know yet or the fans didn't know it yet when it was new... or both.

Sir Alec Guinness played Ben Kenobi. Peter Cushing played Grand Moff Tarkin ( Vader's boss). Peter Cushing was more known for his work in many horror movies. David Prowse inhabited the costume of Darth Vader, although the character is voiced by James Earl Jones.
In the UK, Star Wars was major news before the movie actually aired in the December of 1977, although I actually didn't get to see it until some time in 1978. They filmed in Tunisia.
When I first watched the movie I felt a connection between all three of them as friends rather than a love connection, however I was only 11 years old. But Han Solo was so cool.
The second movie was released in the UK in the May of 1980 and my anticipation for that movie went through the roof. First time I saw a clip of it was on Film 80 with Barry Norman. In between the first and second Star Wars, we had a few sci-fi series as fillers but no real match for the excitement of Star Wars. In the UK we had Blake 7 which aired in 1978 along with Battlestar Galactica and also Buck Rogers in the 25th Century in 1979. Obviously there was also Close Encounters and Alien, but very different to Star Wars. And one other movie that very rarely gets talked about but was really impressive to me back in 1979 and that was The Black Hole, not to mention what most kids considered back in the day to be a ground breaking animated movie of Lord Of The Rings in 1978.
The 3rd movie The Return of The Jedi I remember well as I was working at a cinema for the summer, so I saw it like a million times. And without giving anything away, the later version (specialized) I hated for one specific scene, so i'm so glad you'll be watching the original.
Hand on heart, I love each movie for different reasons, which again I won't mention because it would imply a vibe relating to aspects of story line that I wouldn't want to share until the movie is reacted to.

What I loved about that part was Obi Wan Kenobi had no money and is dealing with Han Solo based on Luke selling his speeder as front money. I enjoyed watching this version so much again as it had been years since I have watched it back. I am also trying to catch the New Star Wars coming out but afraid to do so because if Lacey likes this as much as she did then we may take this viewing all the way into the Star Wars realm. Just as I said about Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker been two different characters, the same thing happened with princess Leia and another character named Nhila Skywalker. The two are different characters. They were combined because hiring another female lead will take screen time away from Princess Leia. Combined that Luke was supposed to takeoff looking for his long lost sister at the end of the third movie and into the next three, but those movies were never got made due to Lucas being kicked all the writers and directors unions.

The original Star Wars film. Luke’s father and Darth Vader really were two different characters. This is Even in the dialogue. His real name is Darth Vadar like someone gave birth to this child. I said your name is now, Darth. This will not be flushed out for another three years after this movie came out. The term Sith existed in deleted scenes cut from this movie. When they were filming the Empire strikes back, Luke Skywalker was going to visit three Jedi masters one of them was happen to be the ghost of his father to the budgetary constraints. The location in Loop Travolta Hwy was reduced to one and the luxe father and Darth Vader were combined.

For those who think Lacy talks too much during the reactions. She is highly intelligent and her brain is processing things at warp speed. For the sake of having a reaction she is saying some of those thoughts and connections her brain is processing. My brain does the same thing, except I keep the thoughts in my head. @tranya327 7 месяцев назад +1

    Very enjoyable reaction video, guys!
To respond to things that you were DIRECTLY talking about in the closing segment, without ruining or spoiling anything for you:
    1) “The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. …The Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the old Republic have been swept away. …The Regional Governors now have direct control over their territories. …”
The Imperial Senate, used to be called ‘The Senate’ and was a primary governing branch of the Galactic Republic. Approximately twenty years before the events of this film, the Republic was re-organized into an Empire. The Senate was a ‘holdover’ institution from those days, but the Emperor simply ordered the Senate dissolved during this film, as he seized more and more power.
    2) Tarkin, the guy who gives a command to Vader, was a regional Governor in the Empire. He happens to be the most important ‘regional Governor’ because he was commander of the Death Star. So, he had the authority to order other people around (including Vader) - but within limits.
Everyone in the conference room, including Tarkin and Vader, were all elite levels in the Imperial military, just below the Emperor. The hierarchy at that level is pretty vague, even to them. The only other thing that everyone knew for certain, is that all of those men were subservient to (and fearful of) the Emperor. With Tarkin gone, Vader rises in rank and in importance, but is still addressed as “Lord Vader” and is still an apprentice to the Emperor.
    3) “The Jedi are extinct, their fire has gone out of the universe…” The Jedi Knights were akin to a religious order in the Old Republic, entrusted with peacekeeping operations. Almost all of them were killed in the events that happened 20 years earlier. The Jedi were citizens of the Republic and had a special role within it (as a very tiny but disproportionately important minority), but were not a part of the Galactic Senate. A loose and not fully accurate analog in our world, would be the State Department, combined with either the Secret Service or the U.S. Marshalls - except that the Jedi order pre-dates the Republic and worked with the government without having the role of a formal government department.
    ••••
When the film came out in 1977, there was no real precedent for that type of film and what it was attempting to do. The closest analog would have been a) old Flash Gordon serial films from the 1930s and 1940s, and b) “2001: A Space Odyssey” in 1968 - but the main parallel to that film, was a FEAST for the eyes, and incredible, sophisticated visual storytelling, coupled with strong music.
Because there was no precedent for a film of this sort, the creators and the execs, kept their expectations very modest. That included George Lucas, who thought the film would be, at best, “not all that successful.” So, Star Wars was structured to have the •possibility• for sequels (Darth Vader is the lone survivor of the Death Star’s destruction), but the film was also structured to be self-contained (as in: a clean beginning, middle and end, with no need for further films.) When the film became the most financially successful film of all time, that was the green light for George to make the additional chapters.

@@toddjackson3136It’s only a ‘cause’ for you. Imagine if hardly any straight relationships were shown on any movie, tv show or book. Now imagine only one or two (or maybe none) white characters per movie, tv show or book & imagine how happy you’d be to see that changed. Change happens. Regardless of white, black, straight or gay, movies are being written lazily. My problems with the sequels is the writing, not the color or sexual orientation of the characters. It’s the same for the shows (except Andor, which is brilliant). Hollywood is out of ideas, hence all the remakes. Some of the most interesting films I’ve seen in the last 5 years are filled with both gay, straight & bi characters. It’s the writing, direction, score & cinematography that makes films good or great, not any of that crap you’re talking about.

@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192 I agree with you about lazy writing and lack of genuine ideas. I disagree with the cause issue however, good writing doesn't need to feel like something is written to showcase a specific idea. I like how NCIS:Hawaii has written their characters. The relationship between the 2 lesbian characters was written the same way the straight characters are. It feels natural to the story. I guess it's the bad writing that highlights the special interests for me. I didn't have very much problem with sexual identity in the starwars movies, it was other interests that bugged me.
