    Fairfield Circuitry. Is there a company that more honestly designs their pedal enclosures to match the sounds they produce? The Meet Maude would make a convincing case that they are, in fact, the most honest pedals in the industry. The industrial, simple, somehow obfuscated look of the Meet Maude perfectly compliments the dark, gritty, and ultimately straightforward sound of this analog delay. The controls seems simple enough; volume, mix, feed, tone, time. But the random modulation and built in JFET compressor on the repeats bring a uniqueness to this delay. The modulation feels more like tape than standard analog chorus modulation. The compressor allows for, and I do not say this lightly, the best runaway oscillation of any analog delay I have ever played. I found myself going back to chaotic feedback with this one time and time again. And let's not even get into the effects loop the Meet Maude has. Let's save that for the video.

    I could listen to Fairfield stuff all day! They take you to a very dark place that you welcome when are facing dark times in life that you try to cover up. I just love them so much, especially these demos because it’s just non stop playing

    very inspiring, love the atmosphere you paint with these pedal combinations -- awesome that you are able to make such sounds completely amp-less too. anyone a room over would have no idea you're even playing. can't wait to get the shallow water soon!

    Another fantastic demo. Thanks for all of these. It occurs to me from this video particularly that you do a fantastic job of not ruining the mellow dark vibe you create with the music, by coming in all loud with your thoughts like a lot of pedal inlfuencers do. Your voice keeps it really mellow. Good job!

      Same. I’ve been using it as a slapback lately which is a lot of fun. You may want to check out the Adineko, it is another really warm characterful delay. With those two and my Volante, I think I am absolutely covered in the delay department.

    This video is fantastic .
    I’m new to pedals .
    I’m a producer and mix engineer and intend on using this with the radial reamp 500 series module to use as a vocal delay.
    I know this is mono but I’m curious what it is in this chain that is making the signal stereo . I’m listening on headphones and definitely hear it moving in the stereo field beautifully .

    Hi Mark, possibly a stupid question, but if you place a pedal in the loop of the MM, can you still use that pedal independently, or does it only work if the MM is also engaged?

    Sounds like if you want the Meet Maude and the Shallow Water, you can just get the delay with that lo-fi setting and have both.

      Definitely not. The shallow water sound is so specific and amazing. The low pass gate is an entirely different beast from anything else on the market.

    Ibanez DE7 and Skreddy Echo delays both have limiters built in as well. I have owned all 3 and much prefer the Skreddy over the Fairfield and the Ibanez, The Skreddy also has an effects loop

    • @bassimprovjams3772
      @bassimprovjams3772 2 года назад

      My question as well!! It seems like the meet Maude would be a great one to get first then the shallow water, but I’ve wanted the shallow water so long I’d probably get that first lol I showed my girlfriend the shallow water and the astral destiny and she got me the astral destiny for Xmas so I’m 3rd of the way to the pedals I need for my bass as of now lol

    Any pedal above $200 in just MONO is just a huge money grab. Is 2021 why companies are crippling their products by no including stereo. Learn a little from Strymon

    • @markjohnstonofficial
      @markjohnstonofficial  3 года назад +10

      That's a hot take in a world where the Thermae exists.

    • @lawrencevaughan5373
      @lawrencevaughan5373 3 года назад +4

      Kinda agree. Chase bliss are the worst for it, with the price of their pedals they should absolutely have at least TRS in/out. Of course, they cost an insane amount of money to develop and the time, distribution et al with then making a profit - something has to give. Not forgetting, when stereo in involved, with analog pedals you need essentially two circuits, which would then double the price. Strymon pedals are digital , which is easier and cheaper to implement. There is no question that the pedals are superb, but I would love stereo, but from cost - I get why they aren’t.

    • @robdavies9478
      @robdavies9478 2 года назад +3

      You'll have to point me towards Strymon's stereo analogue delay. I must have missed the announcement.
