What a fantastic review, thank you. I just bought four of these to light a corner of a salon for haircut photos, and so far they’ve been fantastic. We were using strobes before but it was intimidating and confusing for some of the stylists to get to know them, but using these continuous lights we’re able to set the salon camera to aperture priority and let stylists just point and shoot- or they can easily shoot haircut photos and videos with their phone if they don’t want to figure out the DSLR.

5:00 id lock the adjusting system with loctite (not the strong one) and tighten it, and just put a cheap old tripod head between the light-stand and light, and use that for pan + tilt
Yeah, I didn't have the bad handle issue until just last week and man, it's a real, real big issue. Like, so weak it can't handle a basic softbox. Trying to find excellent solutions. Probably just upgrade lights again next job.
That's a good question. I've not used them in an event situation myself, so I can't speak to it 100%. But, I'd say if you really needed to you could use them. I'd be a little worried with them getting knocked over and hurting someone as they are a bit decent of a size and weight if you have it on a light stand. I just did a review on the Aputure F7 which might be a better light that is small and bright that you could put on a stand and not worry about getting knocked over and hurting someone.
7:15 The point needed to be discussed, daylight LED tubelights/bulbs are 6500k which produces whiter light. What do you consider better daylight as a filmaker? Upon comparing 6500k vs 5500k (godox) this light seems to be warmer! OR is this the ideal daylight range? any help!
This light does not run true 5600K, even though it says it does. I find it does run warmer, which I tend to adjust for. However, since I don't use this light as my keylight I'm often adjusting for my keylight which is more accurately 5600K. I like the look that true 5600k gives when it is accurate. :D Hope that helps a bit
@@FellowFilmmaker great to know, was bit confusion, when seen on other reviewers it seems to be as white as daylight LED bulbs in color tone but may be it is due to softboxes!! just a guess.
@@FellowFilmmaker I analyzed running 6500k on one side and godox 5600k on other side makes godox output even more warmer/yellowish and Led bulbs output appears to be with more green undertone. But using only godox alone seems to be neutral white. I think it was due to clash between the two lights. Only add on is - not to use both lights at the same time. Thanks for your support so far :)
I bought Godox SL60W Video Light a year ago. Yesterday when i try to switched it on, it flashed one time and the light couldn't turn on. In the LCD panel EF starts blinking in the temperature display area. What seems to be the problem? Please help...
Pro tip - I bought myself a portable battery power supply from Amazon - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08G1QWH97/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It works perfectly with this light. I can plug the light into the AC outlet on the power supply and run the light outside on location. The listing says it runs on gasoline lol - it doesn't. It's Lithium-Ion batteries. It outputs a pure sine wave which makes it perfect for LED lights. The UK version only has one AC outlet but you can connect and extension lead. I haven't fully tested how long the battery lasts though, it's lasted long enough for what I've used it for so far. You can be conservative and turn off the light in-between takes. Because it is 300w, I can connect and extension lead and run multiple SL60Ws (as long as they don't collectively exceed 300w). But I guess battery life would be drastically shortened running multiple lights off of one power supply. I would definitely buy more as it is very handy outside of filming too, as emergency power for camping etc.
Great video... Interesting plug in all your light reviews... how you always use Aputture lights as preferred alternative.... even though the price point i so different from the obvious competitions from Sokani , nanlite and neewer
Good question! I covered that in this video. Answer: I haven't found a good way other than purchasing from Amazon or B&H since they get new stock often
on a low budget, which would be the next light to go with my Godox SL-60W for interviews please? I was looking at the Godox SL-100Y Series Video Light SL-100Y Yellow Version 3300-300K on Amazon for an extra £100.
Well I'm not sure what kind of light you need. But assuming you have the SL60 as your keylight then you'll need some sort of rim/back light. I'm not sure about the lights you mentioned since I've not used those ones. But you could always grab another Godox SL60w if needed. I typically have a good keylight and use a godox SL60 as a rim.
i heard that the dont come with a remote anymore. you apparently have to buy a remote separately. at least that was the case for the one i bought on amazon
Thank you for the great video! Did your newer light come with that orange handle knot? Also i've noticed that now SL-60w specs says (on amazon at least) that it's CRI >95. Is that upgrade for newer version as well? Appreciate your work!
It did not, I bought the handles separate to replace the ones it came with. I'm not sure about the upgrade, it's possible it's better. Not too sure, sorry
As always an excellent video! I asked this question in another video. I'll put it here too in case you don't see it. I apologize for the duplicity in the post. I wanted to take the opportunity to try to answer a question (because you are the person who knows the most about light that I know) I've had a Godox sl60w for about 2 or 3 years. It is like new, because it is well cared for and barely used. If I buy another sl60w of the same model today, do I run the risk of having a difference between the lights? I mean, could the old one have suffered some kind of wear or decalibration that leaves it with a slightly different light tone than a new one? I intend to use both together, but if there is a difference I will have to buy 2 new ones. Thank you and congratulations. Greetings from Brazil (Rio de Janeiro)
There would be a possible difference depending on how many hours you ran the light. Lights green up over time. However, I do find that it's hard to notice especially since you can do some adjusting in post. The only time it would matter is if you're heavy into the look of your work and need that tight control over the lighting. But I doubt that's the case since you're opting for SL60w's :D
I bought one sl-60w light, i tried to adjust the 3300k to 5600k from the remote control, but the light color does not change at all, stays the same , I can change brightness 10% to100% only, does your light have the problem? Thanks.
So all the SL-60's are like that, it shows being able to change color temp from the remote but it can't. It's because the remote is a generic Godox remote that works with a variety of their lights. You'll just be able to control the dimming and channels with the remote on the light.
Fellow Filmmaker yes, it is. I tested today, it produced better color on my video, big difference vs my cheap CFL softbox lighting which I was using for long time. Here is a simple video I made by using the cheap CFL softbox, m.ruclips.net/video/kbhUT-BHFtQ/видео.html I am very happy for the upgrade. Will make more better videos by this light. Thanks!
How hot do these lights get on the front part? I was wondering if it would be possible to permanently put color correction gels in front of the LED to correct for temp and tint
Heyy...... Alot of reviews on amazon say there is a bit of electric leakage from the screws on the back and it gives them a slight shock whenever they touch the light... Is this true? And have you ever faced this issue?
Not in the exact same price range, no At least that I would recommend. I'm sure there are cheap panel lights or GVM lights that might meet you near the same price, but the quality usually suffers.
I want to buy this for photography of my crochet work. If I attach it to a softbox do I need the tripod to get it overhead or can I place it on top of bins beaming down? Or would that be too heavy? I saw someone do this but they were using a softbox that had a screw for a bulb
For safety its better to use a light stand. You don't have to get a huge one, just a sturdy one. If you want to see what I use go here: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker
Thank you so much for this! Super insightful. Quick question: is it okay to leave it on for long periods of time? I mean, could I use it to light me through long meetings (hour plus)? And about the “off” status brought the remote (where the light is still in standby running) how long is it oops to keep it like that?
Yep you can keep it going for hours. And i think it only stays in standby for a period of time. Not very long. I tried leaving it overnight and it didn't work when I came back since it goes to off after a few hours.
When you compare a Godox against an Aputure then the Aputure tends to look more accurate. The Aputures don't lean so hard to magenta. But according to @CurtisJudd all lights will shift over time anyway, so the color inaccuracy isn't a terrible factor with the Godox. Aputure just is more accurate when you first buy and use. Godox will get there over time.
If you're outdoors you'll need a much brighter one. If you're indoors it depends on how much space you need.... but a brighter one might help because you then could have it a little further away from the subject and have more room to shot around the subject.
Since I've not shot music videos I can't give alot of advice. But I do recommend the Godox VL300 as a cheaper option to the Aputure 300d mkii. However, I really enjoyed the Aputure 300dmkii and would recommend if money is not a problem.
I purchased this light as per your introduction. Therefore, may I know if this light is compatible to use is a highly inflammable cleanroom? I am required to produce a Explosion Proof camera (m50) and constant light to capture the scenes in the cleanroom. Do you mind to find out for me? Thanks...
Well I'm not entirely sure what the ratings on the SL60 are for that type of situation. I've never had a light explode or be an electrical hazard myself. But, if you need hard facts, I'm not the person to ask that to. You should reach out to the company if it's very important and safety related.
Hi, thanks for some great video’s. I’m going to buy the sl60w with a 120cm/48inc soft box on Black Friday. What light stand (budget) will you recommend? Thanks / Finne from Denmark
Hey Thanks for that Explanation, However I am Confused which Softbox would be More suitable on this 120cm or the 80cm for Indoor Studio for Portrait photography in tight room which is 12x10 feets roomsize, and Camera will be Used Sony A6400 can you Suggest me Good lense based on my requirement for same please based on light and Body of cam
If size is an issue you can make do with a smaller softbox, but a larger sized one will give a softer light - so if that's what you're after larger is better. And for a lens, if its a human subject somewhere between 35-50mm is a good focal range.
Nice ive been following all your films. I bought 3 of these :). I want to ask you...why is it that most pros say using 2 of these next to each other firing on the subject wont give double the light or the same as using a single 120w light ? Why is that so ? Same amount of photons firing right ? Also many photogs double up their flashes etc when they want to combat the sun for like strobist stuff. How come firing 2 in the same direction wont give double or even close to double the light ?
I believe, from limited reading, that is has to do with the lumens of the light (a measurement for how bright a light is). So if a 60w light has, say, a measurement of 8000 lumens at its maximum, then adding the two together does not equal a higher number of lumens. Lumens are not something you can add together to get a bigger output of lumens. If you have 8000 as your max of lumens then that is the most you can have. So, a light of any wattage that has a higher lumens output will be a brighter light (the wattage does not determine the brightness of the light but rather how much power consumption it takes). Hope that made some sense of it.
Hey just a quick query, did you notice this magenta color issue with this light SL60 w only or with SL 100w or 150w lights of godox too? I wish godox named these as version ii to clear confusion.
Godox as a whole can typically run a bit more on the magenta side, but I find the SL60 tends to show it a bit more. Other lights from Godox I use I find to be a little closer to accurate colors.
@@FellowFilmmaker yeah, actually I am planning to switch to either FV150 or SL150 ii.. So on my SL60w my skin tone is warmer and I was expecting super white. That's why in doubt with SL150ii... Hope someone will have video with light meter kelvin readings..
Hey fellow filmmaker, i just bought this godox 60w but realized now it is giving quite yellowish tint output when compared with daylight LED home bulb!! It is not super white? Am i missing something 🤔
Great review. Thanks a lot. Any accessory you would recommend to get tungsten color light out of this unit when using an octabox? Plenty of options when using other bowens mount modifiers, but with couldn't find any way to get 3200 K with softboxes.
I'm not really sure as I've not tried it before, but likely you'd just use a gel in a softbox of your choice. Of course it lessens output and may not be fully useful by the time you gel it.
Hi Heather! Great video! Please help me with some info about this light. I'm thinking of buying it so I can have a brighter light than the ones I already own. My brighter light is the led panel GVM 520, it says it's 4.625 at Lux 1m. I was under the impression that the Godox SL-60W was A LOT MORE bright than my GVM but I am seeing it is 4500 Lumens. Is that at 1m too? Is that without the reflector or with it? I have heard that when this kind of light uses the reflector the brightness jumps WAY UP. If that's so, do you have a lum/lix reading of it using the reflector? Can it use the reflector and the dome at the same time? I wouldn't want to buy this light and then see that it's less bright than my GVM.
Great questions! Here's the info I saw briefly online about the sl-60w: Power: 60W. Color Temperature: 5600k ± 200K. 100% Illuminance (LUX): 4100 (1M) 100% Luminous Flux: 4500 so it would appear that your lights are likely brighter. I'd suggest the Godox VL series if you want some nice lights that are bright - I have a comparison on the VL300 against the Aputure 300dmkii that might help. As for your question on using a dome on a reflector, no you can't (as far as I know).
@@FellowFilmmaker thanks Heather. That's bad news for me. I have to see if any store over here sells the VL models. I see that the store that has the sl60w also has the sl100w and says it's 6500 lux at 1m and 13.000 lumens. Have you ever used that model? Is it better than the sl60w or only brighter?
Can you please help me solve an issue with my godox sl60w please? The light keeps on turning off itself and then turns on after a minute or so. I don't know what is wrong with it?
Can anyone help me out what problem i am facing while using godox sl 60w if automatically cut off after 2-3 mins and turned on automatically after 1 min .
I'm thinking you might mean a light stand, and not a tripod....:P If that's the case I have some I use and would recommend that you can find here: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker
I'm not sure how big the cave is, but it would certainly help light it up vs. nothing. If you need the whole thing lit up you might need more than one light, a brighter light might be a bit more helpful as well.
HI, I know it's now in 2020, but this GODOX SL-60W is only around 100 EUR at the moment, would you still recommend it given the price because I cannot afford the Amaran 60D which is double the price. THanks so much as always for your review.
If you're lighting two people you could use two SL60's and shine them through a white shower curtain to light two people really nicely. I've done things like that and it comes out pretty good.

Thanks for making this video I was literally about to buy 2 of these lights. Now I think I'll go to the vl300
You're most welcome! Glad I could help
My light won’t adjust the light. I can get it to change the number on the lcd but it does nothing. What do I do?
Worth watching!
Happy to hear that!

Yeah, I didn't have the bad handle issue until just last week and man, it's a real, real big issue. Like, so weak it can't handle a basic softbox. Trying to find excellent solutions. Probably just upgrade lights again next job.
Yeah, sorry to hear it's so bad for you.
Brilliant informative video. Thanks so much! Any advice regarding the Godox FL100. I’m heading more into that direction due to its size.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I don't have experience with that light in particular, so I can't really speak to it, sorry
I like your videos. Most of the links in description are broken. Can you update please?
Thanks for letting me know! I'll work on it! :D
very helpful content very well said and feel so genuined. but i don't like the overall dark atmosphere and the background music
Thank you! :) Sorry you don't like the music
Thanks for your review, it looks like the noise is not a big issue. Well at least for the newer version. ;)
Correct, it's not been a problem.
very informative, thank you for posting
Glad it was helpful!
I try to put color gel after watch this video, is work! Thanks
Wonderful!
Thanks for another great review👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Very well done. I see 1M in the horizon
Thanks! That'd be cool
Hey thanks for your advice! I got this light a few weeks back and it's been great but the fan
noise isn't ideal.
It can be a little rough, but with some good mic placement it can still be a light worth using. I hope you are able to make some great things with it!
How and where are you suppose to attach an umbrella to this thing?
The attachment is in the center under the main body of the light. There's a knob to tighten the umbrella in place.
I got the NEEWER WHITE VERSION. Read the instructions but didn't understand about the 16 channels and the 6 groups.
I'm sorry. Did you figure it out?
Not yet
Box came yesterday Lol
Hope you get it settled out!
Hello! I have the sl60w and it turns itself off.
On the screen you have a tinkling battery icon.
Did it happen to someone?
It has not for me
Hi!
Check the new
Godox SL-150W II, seems very similar to the VL150 but without the vlock option and at a lower price.
Cheers!
I've heard about that light, I was thinking it sounded really good! I'm gonna have to look more into it, thanks!
when at the beginning of the video you said, "it's not a sponsored video". I just clicked like.
Super kind of you :)
How good are these lights for lighting events? I meant lighting the dance floor on weddings, thanks.
Fellow Filmmaker
Great! Thanks for answering, I’ll watch your review on the aperture light to see if it is a better option.

That's really interesting :D And thanks for subscribing!
There certainly is a multitude of possibilities! :p
Glad you found a solution of sorts! :D
I've swapped my stock fan with a Noctua one, following some RUclips tutorial. It was relatively easy operation, and the light is now dead silent
Nice! :D
I bought Godox SL60W Video Light a year ago. Yesterday when i try to switched it on, it flashed one time and the light couldn't turn on. In the LCD panel EF starts blinking in the temperature display area. What seems to be the problem? Please help...
I'm not really sure what that might be... I've never had that happen myself. Have you tried a different outlet?
Pro tip -
I bought myself a portable battery power supply from Amazon - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08G1QWH97/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works perfectly with this light.
Great to know! Love the bit about gasoline, haha! :D
lovely demo :)
Glad you liked it!
Where's a good place to get barn doors?
You can go to my kit if you like or just search on Amazon for barndoors by godox
Great video...
Interesting plug in all your light reviews... how you always use Aputture lights as preferred alternative.... even though the price point i so different from the obvious competitions from Sokani , nanlite and neewer
True. Its because it's the question I get asked most, how does it compare to aputure. Never get asked how it compares to nanlite or many others.
Great video! I have a question, ¿how can identify the newer model to the older model?
Good question! I covered that in this video. Answer: I haven't found a good way other than purchasing from Amazon or B&H since they get new stock often
on a low budget, which would be the next light to go with my Godox SL-60W for interviews please? I was looking at the Godox SL-100Y Series Video Light SL-100Y Yellow Version 3300-300K on Amazon for an extra £100.
Great question! What do you need a secondary light to do?
@@FellowFilmmaker make subject look good
Well I'm not sure what kind of light you need.
That is possible
Thank you for the great video!
Did your newer light come with that orange handle knot? Also i've noticed that now SL-60w specs says (on amazon at least) that it's CRI >95. Is that upgrade for newer version as well?
Appreciate your work!
It did not, I bought the handles separate to replace the ones it came with. I'm not sure about the upgrade, it's possible it's better. Not too sure, sorry
As always an excellent video!
I asked this question in another video. I'll put it here too in case you don't see it. I apologize for the duplicity in the post.
I wanted to take the opportunity to try to answer a question (because you are the person who knows the most about light that I know)
I've had a Godox sl60w for about 2 or 3 years.
Here is a simple video I made by using the cheap CFL softbox, m.ruclips.net/video/kbhUT-BHFtQ/видео.html
I am very happy for the upgrade. Will make more better videos by this light. Thanks!
That was lovely guitar picking, well done! :) Glad to hear the video was helpful
How hot do these lights get on the front part? I was wondering if it would be possible to permanently put color correction gels in front of the LED to correct for temp and tint
I've had not issues with heat and keep a gel on for many many hours, so I think it's fine.
Looks like Amazon no longer has that light dome? Broken link (at least on my phone) What is the make/model? Thanks for this excellent review, btw.
Yeah I believe they no longer make it.... sadness. I've got another one or two over on my kit if you want to check it out: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker
Thanks for super fast reply! Cheers.
Heyy...... Alot of reviews on amazon say there is a bit of electric leakage from the screws on the back and it gives them a slight shock whenever they touch the light... Is this true? And have you ever faced this issue?
I've never been shocked by the lights, so I don't think it's true for the ones I've gotten.
@@FellowFilmmaker ohh okay thanks 😊😊😊 hope mine dont that either 🤞
Great video! Would you know of something in the same price range that has adjustable temperature?
Not in the exact same price range, no
At least that I would recommend.
Thank you!@@FellowFilmmaker
Thanks.
You're welcome
Great review
:D thanks!
This is really helpful. Colour inaccuracy is stg that kept me from buying GODOX. Just curious, do you mean Apurture has more accurate in colour?
When you compare a Godox against an Aputure then the Aputure tends to look more accurate. The Aputures don't lean so hard to magenta. But according to @CurtisJudd all lights will shift over time anyway, so the color inaccuracy isn't a terrible factor with the Godox. Aputure just is more accurate when you first buy and use. Godox will get there over time.
@@FellowFilmmaker I felt that when we are shooting on skin tone. Lighting like Godox can perform better..Reddish looks pleasant on people.
Quick question: how far away are your lights from you in your videos (and at what percent)? If it’s okay for me to ask.
Sure, I'm using the Godox vl300 in this video as the keylight at 38% and the other lights are at their full power on the wall.
which light you think can be used for a kind of music videos?
If you're outdoors you'll need a much brighter one. If you're indoors it depends on how much space you need.... but a brighter one might help because you then could have it a little further away from the subject and have more room to shot around the subject.
@@FellowFilmmaker right. Thanks. Can u suggest which godox light is good enough which can go very dim to powerful source.
The Godox VL300 is great for that - I have a video review on this channel if you want to check it out
@@FellowFilmmaker yes i checked it already. But can't decide how dim to powerful it can go up to. Any practical experience would be helpful.
Since I've not shot music videos I can't give alot of advice. But I do recommend the Godox VL300 as a cheaper option to the Aputure 300d mkii. However, I really enjoyed the Aputure 300dmkii and would recommend if money is not a problem.
Hey! I do have a question on a photographers end? Is the SL60 compatible with any particular Trigger I can use that you may know??
I'm not aware of it being triggerable.... sorry
IS The newer version and older version price same?
Should be :D
I purchased this light as per your introduction. Therefore, may I know if this light is compatible to use is a highly inflammable cleanroom?
I am required to produce a Explosion Proof camera (m50) and constant light to capture the scenes in the cleanroom.
Do you mind to find out for me? Thanks...
Well I'm not entirely sure what the ratings on the SL60 are for that type of situation.
I've never had a light explode or be an electrical hazard myself. But, if you need hard facts, I'm not the person to ask that to. You should reach out to the company if it's very important and safety related.
@@FellowFilmmaker thank you for the fast and honest reply. I rather ask you than to ask the company because they never reply.

Hi, thanks for some great video’s. I’m going to buy the sl60w with a 120cm/48inc soft box on Black Friday. What light stand (budget) will you recommend? Thanks / Finne from Denmark
I use the heavy duty light stand made by neewer, you can check the exact ones on my kit: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker
@@FellowFilmmaker Thank You :)
Does it come with the stand?
Not that I know of. Some kits on Amazon or something might offer something like that tho
It does tend to run more close to 5400K than 5600K, so that could be it. Also daylight bulbs are possibly not accurate.
There is a warm white version as well - sl 60Y instead of W, any chance you mixed em up?
@@michaeldimitrov1444 unfortunately it's W but i was comparing it with household led bulbs of 6500k
I have not used that model. I have heard there is a version two of that light and that it's supposed to be really good.
@@FellowFilmmaker thanks!
Can you please help me solve an issue with my godox sl60w please? The light keeps on turning off itself and then turns on after a minute or so. I don't know what is wrong with it?
It's possible there's a fault with the fan running consistently.... if you just bought it, then maybe ship it back
@@FellowFilmmaker Okay thank you so much
Can anyone help me out what problem i am facing while using godox sl 60w if automatically cut off after 2-3 mins and turned on automatically after 1 min .
Could be overheating, if you bought recently might want to return or replace it
Can you recommend a tripod for my godox sl150 II?
I'm thinking you might mean a light stand, and not a tripod....:P If that's the case I have some I use and would recommend that you can find here: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker
@@FellowFilmmaker yes. That's what i mean. Thank you. You are very talented
Nice review. Do you know is this godox capable to light cave which is almost completely dark?
I'm not sure how big the cave is, but it would certainly help light it up vs. nothing. If you need the whole thing lit up you might need more than one light, a brighter light might be a bit more helpful as well.
@@FellowFilmmaker I noticed this model doesn't have a battery so i have to look for another one, preferably just as cheap.
Hard to find one just as cheap with a battery.... I do like the ML60's tho. They are a bit more pricey than the SL60, but well worth it.
HI, I know it's now in 2020, but this GODOX SL-60W is only around 100 EUR at the moment, would you still recommend it given the price because I cannot afford the Amaran 60D which is double the price. THanks so much as always for your review.
Yes I would :D It's a great light still if it's cheaper where you are at
@@FellowFilmmaker I meant 2022. May I ask would you recommend 1x100w or 2x60w in case I want to use it for 2 people interview ?
If you're lighting two people you could use two SL60's and shine them through a white shower curtain to light two people really nicely. I've done things like that and it comes out pretty good.
THE TEMPERATURE OF MY SL60 RISES UP TO 80 DEGREES AND TURNS OFF, I wonder what the problem is
Not sure really. If you can return it, might be worth doing that.
Will a 120cm softbox work with this light?
It can yes, might lose a bit of the brightness tho, so I like a 90cm
