This pumps me up. I had the first version and LOVED the light quality but wasn't a fan of the size and fan noise. At least they addressed the size and functionality. Thank you Mark!❤️❤️❤️
I have the old SL 60W and still use it as my key light. It's STILL boss! Never had any issues with it and it lights my mini studio perfectly. I'm now working in a smaller space and need to get a smaller softbox for it though.
Have the original sl60w still works perfectly for home, just purchased a 2nd one as I get into more fun creations. I can now use 1 remote for both lights which as we all know is a time saver
Did I witness a Sony ZV-E10 'product showcase' shot in this video (04:37)? LOL! Anyways, thanks for letting me know about this new offering from Godox. I learned it from you. Now I'll definitely be upgrading from my current SL60W (which just like you, still serves me well).
I have the Small Rig 120 but the Bluetooth is terrible. Once the light is turned, the next day you have remove and reconnect the Bluetooth to make it work. There is also NO remote control available. I am returning it and getting the SL-60II. Thanks
Great video. I use the godox sl100bi light for my videos. I think this light would work great with it. I really like the fact that they both can use the same app.
Thank you for this video. You solidified my belief in buying this key light. I will use it to film food review videos on tiktok. Do you think it will be able to lighten up my face and the table where I will place the food at the same time? Do you have any recommendations for a good light stand and softbox? Thank you for your time,
Good that they made it smaller but sad they could not eliminate fan noise. I agree new fan sounds much nicer to my ears. For a budget RUclips studio it's a no brainer. Most RUclips content creators sit close to the light so 60w is plenty!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Hahahahaha! Methinks you're not just referring to photography. I go out to my barn because it's so full of junk my wife won't follow me out there.
I have the new bicolor version of this light, and just ordered the daylight version. The light quality is very good on the bicolor, so I don't doubt the daylight will be equally good. They work really great with the original issue Joel Grimes soft Beauty Dish--nice contrast. I have Bowens strobes (love them), so I have literally every modifier I could ever want to use with these. So, for me they're great lights for knocking out some quick shots, when I don't want to bother with metering, hooking up radios, etc. Cannot complain about the price a bit. Great value.
@@swansproduction I have been using both for a while, now. They're both great lights. The only difference is that the "D" version is a single-temp light. Otherwise, performance, fan noise, etc., is exactly the same.
start small. Get the ZV-E10 and the Sigma 16mm f1.4. Get the Comica VM 20 for your mic. For lighting inside get the small rig rc120D and a soft box. That will be enough to start for sure.
You can definitely use just one. A lot of people (like me) want a second light to fill in shadows on one side of the face, but many RUclipsrs just use one light with a soft box. But start with one and take it from there
Hey Mark! Thank you for another great video! On a side note. Do I understand correctly: if I’m gonna use a leeming LUT for shooting HLG3 with my little Dougie, I’m gonna need to expose to the right, so I’m ALSO gonna need more light, than usual?
Thanks for the heads up. I have the first model of the SL60W and it has a geared yolk. Originally, I bought one that did not have the geared yolk. It might have been a 3rd party model. But, the first one I had had the plastic yolk with no gears. I wrote the manufacturer after returning mine because the yoke could not handle the weight of my Aputure soft box. A few months later, they sent me the upgraded model that had a metal geared yoke - free of charge. I'm not sure if it was Godox, but, it had the same name (SL60W) and font on the side of the light. It's disappointing that the new one does not have a geared yoke though. What soft box did you use?
As far as I know the Godox SL60W never had the metal yolk. it’s always had this same plastic handle. Godox does have several lights with similar names though. I am using a 55cm smallrig softbox
5:50 and 6:50😂. Hahahaha these always crack me up :D :D. You should make a video just staring at the camera with these faces, maybe next April Fools hahahah.
You can use constant light like this one for photography, but a lot of photographers prefer flash because it can generally give a higher burst of power. Godox does make a combo light that can be continuous and also a flash - but that is definitely not the norm
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis in other words continued lighting can be both used, flash only for photo , mixed weird compromise?! I'm looking, probably, continuous cuz planning videos (slog without lights looks bad) ,but also portraits some times... And I believe it should be portable somehow
Oh hi Mark! One more question: I'm an aspiring travel vlogger (not on this channel tho), and I'm thinking: Do I really need a studio light? Because oftentimes I feel like I don't, as the natural light or my desk light pointing at me usually (as to my eyes anyway) is doing a good enough job lighting my face, as in it looks good enough for me. Will people even recognize/appreciate me having professional grade studio lights?
Depends on what kind of look you want.. With lighting you control way more and the classic light where there is planned depth and hairlight isn't really achievable anymore. Not that it's something you need, really all depends on you.
Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it. When you have a product that you're showcasing that you have had for years (as in the case for your old SL60W) do you find that you have to scrub it a bit before putting it on camera? Here in the desert, no matter how clean you keep a room, things will almost certainly accumulate dust even when you're using them regularly. I just wondered if it's the same up there.
I do like the prices of the Colbor for sure - and I am a big fan of Moman (the company that makes Colbor) but there is a lot to consider with lights. Color cast or shifts over time being a big one. Hopefully the quality with the Colbor lights holds up over time - but I have full confidence in Godox. I would (and do) buy Godox when it comes to the lower priced lights because of the consistent quality. I'm not saying that Colbor is a lesser quality, but we just haven't had enough time with them. As the months go by, if they hold up - I will probably recommend Colbor as well as great bang for buck.
Your video title is an identical copy of Joris Herman's title on the first version of this godox light from 2020. Nice review but you could have been a bit more creative with the title instead of just lifting it off there.

Have just bought one. Really happy with it
thank you for posting .... I haven't a clue about lights ! This helped 😅
if you got a little more to spare on lights - the ul60 is the best because or the silence. But this one is great on a budget.
Great video! Any recommendation on softbox for SL60IID?
Should i get this one or SL100D?

I bought the UL60 based on your excellent review, ore of theses will be my second studio light.
the ul60!! the best!! silent. love it. when I renovate my garage - I plan to make the whole thing the UL line. nice and quiet!!

Thanks for the excellent video Mark. Is there any alternative at the same price point without a fan?
not at the same price, no unless you go with a panel light like a Neewer 530 pro. the best option for a cob light that is silent is the Godox UL60
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Thank you!
Hey, there is another version, the SL60II BI, on the BI you can set light temperature and the rest is the same?
Pretty much, yes
Agreed. I own these and they are great.
Thank you :), this video helped me to make my decision. 😍
👍
Better than my $19 Amazon ring light. I cheap out on the important things like lighting
hey Mark thx for video. There is another version SL-60II BI. Guess its better? Price the same in my country
It has the extra function of being able to change the colour temp from cool to warm - so that is an advantage . But it is a little less bright
What about the Bi version would you recommend?
that would be great if you need to change colour temp

Godox sl100d vs aputure amaran 100d? How u think which is better ?
can’t go wrong with either, but amaran is definitely more popular. I would say, get which ever one is cheaper.

I have the neewer 60 something or other rgb I never use lol I mostly use flash but have you reviewed it yet? That would very a cool comparison
you as great as usuaL! thank you. what do you think is the universal choice for both photography and video

the amaran costs more, but it will be more quiet so I would go with the Amaran if it’s in the budget
