I also just realized after uploading this I put the wrong dollar amount for the softbox towards the end of the video where I compare the two lights value for value when we make them do the same things. The ML60 softbox is only $45, not the $80 I put down. That changes the final price a bit. So, sorry for the mess up! My bad.
@@ManoelFlesch I would like to know this as well. I don't mind the sound and slight compromises that sl60w has. I"m just looking to have it be available to use outdoors in the evening / night. I guess there must be a vmount solution out there. I'll do some research.
Having bought the SL-60W as my first video light just three weeks ago and now watching this... I'd say I'm happy with my purchase. The noise is not great but if I was going to upgrade my light, it would be to a brighter one anyway. Also I didn't pay full price. I got it on Amazon Australia for $160 AU ($120 US) with an extra barn doors and 4 gel kit, which is a pretty sweet deal. Thanks for another great video!
I can't even recall how many times the SL-60W was too bright with that 10% brightness minimum in tiny spaces, and also fan too loud in tiny spaces :( But then almost not enough for trying to light two people with a large softbox. I would def. just save up and get the ML60 to be able to dial down brightness when I need to and know that it will work quietly in tight spaces or as key light for one person. I think if you know the limitations both these lights are awesome, and SL60 is just so easy to set up. I still use it sometimes over my VL150.
Fantastic video! I just got the ML60 and it’s fantastic! I have been using the SL60 and have loved it but now need something portable as well! Thank you for making this!

I bought the ML60 earlier this month but getting hold of the soft box is a pain here in Europe. What’s more, with shipping it’s double the US price. I’m still waiting after ordering it two weeks ago. Other than that, love the light. Portability was the decisive factor. (Oh, and mine came with the remote). Thanks for the comparison.
Sorry to hear its a pain over there to get them. :( I'm glad though your kit came with the remote, I see some sellers on amazon offer that which is nice.
Hey! Amazing video!, Just a tip, idk why but your video looks a little extra compressed maybe because of youtube, you can just upscale and export the videos in 4k then RUclips will apply very slight compression :)
Yeah I've noticed that a bit, I'll keep tabs on it and see what I can do about it. Them 4k files take up so much space, haha! :D But I don't want the quality to suffer for anyone either, so I'll work out a solution.

Im starting to love this channel. Very informative and super easy to understand. You'll a bigtime RUclipsr in no time. Ahmmm. I'm new to lights and because of this video, I'm thinking of getting the ML with the softbox for my small room to light up my face when doing zoom meetings or RUclips videos. I only have a small room approximately (8-10ft area). Do you think it is a great choice? And what Accessories should I get with it? I don't stand either. Any recommendations? Thank you so much 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoy the channel! So yes I recommend the ML for small setups, spaces, and even zoom calls! I use it for zoom calls at 1-2 percent and it works great! :D For an accessory for it I recommend the softbox made for it (should be linked in the description and also found easily on my kit: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker ). If you think you'll need a remote maybe pick that up too, but otherwise I find the light and softbox plenty good enough. For a stand you don't need anything fancy for that. Here's what I use: amzn.to/39Rnmld Hope that helps
I recently bought the ML60 and loving it. Your video was very detailed and the only thing I find a problem with the ML60 is that I use softboxes and I know there is one specific one for this (waiting for it as its on BO) and if you want to use the godox S mount to use your existing softboxes with the Bowens mount it works great BUT you can no longer use the batteries since you need the handle to attach to it , thats the only thing. Keep up the great work , love your content
That is a problem yes, with putting on a diffusor. I did see that @CurtisJudd put the handle on backwards and was able to get it a bit further of a tilt, so that may be a partial solution.
I'm leaning towards the ml60. That portability. Not sure if I'm overhauling it to myself but... that portability. Awesome review. Just stumbled into your channel from this video. Could you compare (if you haven't already) the Amaran 100d to the Godox ML60
@@FellowFilmmaker thank you so much. I was debating what light to get but after seeing reviews of the 100d, I'm sticking to this one. It's a weird trade off (I watched a review of the Amaran lights but no one compared it to this one), it's definitely brighter at 100W but it's not battery powered and doesn't have the option. You have single handedly sold me on this light.
Well I'm glad I could help you out a bit! I'd compare the two if I had the light on my hands, but I don't right now. Might in the future. :D Meantime, I think you'll like this light.
Hey! very nice comparison with some great production value! :-) I need something compact and I have always rented out a 120d from aperture - would you say the ml60 is somewhat comparable? do I need an additional adapter for mounting the aperture light dome? greetings from Vienna!
I'd say the light is very handy and quite compact. In comparing it to the aputure 120d, of course it's not quite as bright (since it's 60 watts compared to 100+ watts) but I think it's plenty enough for alot of situations. You will need the adapter if you plan on using an aputure light dome with it since the dome is a bowens mount and the ml60 is a specialty mount. What do you typically shoot? That might help me know if I'd say it's great for those situations.
You could use it a golden hour if you like, but you may want to wait til the ML60bi is out since that might be a better fit for that specific situation
Thanks for this video. One thing, you say it's the same power input so the same lighting output but looking at the Godox specs, they say SL 60 is 4100 Lux and ML 60 is 13 000 Lux !!! So 3 times brighter !! Did you noticed that in real life situation or is it just marketing ? Thanks
They are both technically 60w lights, so output wise they cannot really be brighter. The way they get that number has to do with the reflector they use. Usually creates a 'hotspot' and that is it's brightest point and therefore they can claim, truthfully, that it is a brighter light. In my testing of diffusors and such, at full power, they are both the same - at least to me. :D
@@FellowFilmmaker Ok, thanks for the detailed answer ! I still can't decide wich one to get. Price and lack of Bowens mount makes me hesitate. Is the adaptor solid enough to handle a lantern on a boom stand for example ? Did the ML60 fully replaced the SL60 for your work ? Thanks anyway for the video !
Hi Heather. I'm probably getting the SL60w, but I'm wondering if you'd have any suggestions about putting an LED pocket light into some kind of lantern softbox, or a china ball... ? I know they're not normally bright enough for a heavily diffused light, but as I'm just beginning to upgrade my home video lighting from the desk lamps with tissue paper taped to them... I want to pick two lights that can be most VERSATILE, until people slow down spreading COVID so I can get back to work and put more money toward more specialized gear. at the moment I think I'm going with: 🌈a little PixelG1 RGB pocket light (or similar priced brand) for coloring a grey backdrop, edge light, or soft fill. ☀️ And one single LED light with a Bowens mount for a key, prob the Godox SL60w. (over a panel or mat of LEDs since I'll want the option of shaping my light with hard shadows) ALSOO I've been browsing the 🌽 shaped LED light "bulbs," and warily eying some LED ceiling panel lights, because they're BRIGHT AF, 2'x4' FEET and I could get two for under $50 since right now I have more time than money on my hands to figure out wiring a dimmer and making a DIY mount. Unless that's a stupid idea for some reason I'm missing.
So I've not used a pocket light with a china ball, I'd think they aren't bright enough to do too much. The brightest pocket light I have does only 12 watts, I believe, and its not really bright enough with any sort of diffusion on it. Now for your situational questions, it depends on what you're planning on shooting and distance in the room, etc. But in general you could get away with a decent RGB pocket light to light up a small section of a wall and then use a SL60 for a key light with a softbox of some sort. I've used a lantern with the SL60 and it's great for lighting up a entire small space nicely. If you're looking at handheld RGB, I hope to have a video in a few weeks on that stuff. But in general I'd recommend either the Aputure MC just becasue the app is amazing for it (however its not the brightest light) and then the weeylite rb9 light (this one is much brighter!). I love both but I think you'd find better use with the Weeylite one. In the end it comes down to what you can do/afford.
It's always nice to have the option to run lights on batteries, but almost no one talkes about runtime. The npf's are great, but usually don't like hight currents. They die much faster. Do you have any idea how long it would run on two npf 950s?
I don't have the 950's so can't say for sure. I also hardly ever run off batteries since, to me, its unreliable and I prefer to be plugged into power. So sadly, I have no real insight here right now. Sorry
@@FellowFilmmaker Wow, what a quick response! Batteries sometimes come in handy when you are outside, its dark and you can't use a generator because of the noise but need some fill. But more or less, this is a rare occasion, true.
Beautiful an upgrade form the SL60W with small enhancements and 2 times the price. And to make things fun, throw in a proprietary mount....now Godox is getting greedy.
Haha, perhaps, it certainly is a new type of product for them to be making. And to my understanding the mount is based off of some of their photographic lighting equipment, so maybe it's a great in between for someone coming from the photography realm into the video world.
I think you might be referring to the little ones I use. Here's a link to ones off amazon that are pretty nearly the same as what I have (the ones I got are from a local photo store): amzn.to/2LAxy9Z If you were referring to the other larger ones then you can easily find those on my kit as well: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker
Well as I checked the prices on E-Bay the ML cost more than 3X as much. Battery operation is cool but hand heald videolight is rarely needed. the SL60 is the buy of the day, very well priced...
@@FellowFilmmaker There are some Artic Silent cooler fans very cheap... not a big deal to change what came with it, although I think the two I have is from the second bench and I donn't really hear the fan noise (granted my hearing is not the best at 52 :-)
60W is will not have any impact on your household circuit.. So don't worry about power consumption. Your PC is probably consuming more than 500W without any issue.
If it's for the SL60 you can get pretty nearly any softbox, the octagon ones are great and typically pretty cheap as well, rectangle works just fine. I personally just have parabolic ones around so that's what I've used - if you wanted to see which ones you can find them on my kit: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker
The 60W is a parameter that refers to power consume, and lumens (lux) is when you need to talk about how bright a light is. The watts can be SOME related to how bright is a light, but it is not related in a linear way. I mean, if some light source of 60W power is 1000lux at 1 meter of distance another light source of 60W can be perfectly brighter at 2000lux. So, theorically Godox SL60 is 4100lux at 1m and ML60 13000lux at 1m, both are 60W power consume.
I realize this is an old video, but I wondered if there is a soft box that will work with the ML60. Love your videos. You are articulate, you get to the point, and you're really informative. Glad to have found your channel.
@@FellowFilmmaker I only have one question if you can clear it up, it is that becuase of the smaller build does the ML 60 suffer its brightness at its highest and lowest points. Thanks a lot in advance.
No, it's exactly the same brightness as the SL60w at full power, and since the ML60 can go down to 0% you can get more control out of the low output over the SL60w.
@@FellowFilmmaker Thanks a lot, ok sorry for this but I have one last question. I currently own the d3300 which i bought about 4 years ago, then I didn't do video for a long time. Now I want to restart my career. Would it be a good idea to buy a new camera if your tight on budget, "I'm in collage" eg Canon 250d or sl3 as it's called there. Also please make a suggestion for a new camera, becuase I'm really confused.
Well when it comes to cameras there's a bunch and it comes down to what your needs are. Do you need 4K? Do you need slo mo? Do you need good low light capabilities? If you know answers like those you can start narrowing down cameras. Also keep in mind what kind of lenses you currently have. If you're heavily invested into one type it might not make sense to suddenly switch brands.
I just orderred today sl60 for my studio a little upgrate can you create a small video How can I use my SL60 as a key light with reflector to fill my other side of face?
I do have a video that covers that little big here on the channel called Using One Light, or something like that. I might expound more on it in the near future.
@@FellowFilmmaker I just got my ML60w Bi light, damn it was a bit of a beast of a light, even at 1% it shone strong 😅💯👌 at the moment I do not need an ML100 for sure. 😄 lol .. Hey! I was wondering if you know any barn door kit that will fit the ML60 mount. Since it is different than the Bowen mount I can’t find one that fits the godox mount . Thanks in advance
I'm not aware of one, but there could be I just don't know is all. You might be better off just getting the bowens adapter (I love it) and then just a classic bowens mount dish and barndoor kit. Here's some links for reference: amzn.to/3CwlnA7 amzn.to/3BumAqo amzn.to/3w3Q11u
Awesome video. It is very detailed explanation, especially the cost to cost comparison. Can you please suggest me a portable light for outdoor video shoot. I shoot Yoga and fitness videos, where I keep the camera about 7-8 feet away from the subject. Eagerly waiting for response. Love from India...
for outdoor stuff I find you'll need a minimum of 200 watts output. So you may consider the Godox VL300 light as it's 300 watt output and can compete with the sun a bit :D
Planning on getting the ML60 with the specialized softbox so I don't have to get the adopter right. Also does the GODOX AD-S60S SILVER SOFTBOX FOR AD300PRO 60CM usually come with the stand? Sorry I'm new to all of this
Correct. 60w can do something in the shade or cloudy weather for sure, but not in broad daylight (if you hope for it to do alot anyway). Need more power.
@@FellowFilmmaker Yeah I feared so... Jinbei has a 150W version called EFD-150 as well that can be powered via V-Mount but V-Mount is obviously way more expensive and there seems to be next to nothing on reviews on these. A Godox ML150 would be awesome xD

I still can't decide wich one to get. Price and lack of Bowens mount makes me hesitate. Is the adaptor solid enough to handle a lantern on a boom stand for example ?
Did the ML60 fully replaced the SL60 for your work ?
Thanks anyway for the video !
Trying to decide between daylight and bi-color. How often do you gel your lights? Or now with the bi-color ML60, how often do you use that option?
I use both of them all the time. Keylights I'm always doing at 5600K, very rare I don't. Bi-color I use for the backlight often.
Very detailed and thorough review!!
Thank you kindly!
This is so helpful.
Thank you! Will do!
I want to pick two lights that can be most VERSATILE, until people slow down spreading COVID so I can get back to work and put more money toward more specialized gear.
at the moment I think I'm going with:
🌈a little PixelG1 RGB pocket light
(or similar priced brand) for coloring a grey backdrop, edge light, or soft fill.
☀️ And one single LED light with a Bowens mount for a key, prob the Godox SL60w.
(over a panel or mat of LEDs since I'll want the option of shaping my light with hard shadows)
ALSOO I've been browsing the 🌽 shaped LED light "bulbs," and warily eying some LED ceiling panel lights, because they're BRIGHT AF, 2'x4' FEET and I could get two for under $50
since right now I have more time than money on my hands to figure out wiring a dimmer and making a DIY mount. Unless that's a stupid idea for some reason I'm missing.
P.S. This additional budget comparison is extra helpful with reviews! thanks
Happy to hear that was helpful! :D
@@FellowFilmmaker Thank you Heather!
Looking into those now
Can you elaborate on what accessories you would use to turn something to battery capable
Some battery system that has a AC power plug. There's a few out there if you look around a bit, used in photography I believe.
@@FellowFilmmaker I'm using a jakery 1500 but I'd like something Lighter to carry. Because you're video I bought the ML60 I appreciate it.
For sure, they have their place :D
I don't have the remote control unit, please tell me how to change the color temprature from the SL60?
It doesnt change. The remote is universal and the color temp change are for the lights that do have bi color options
great video, exactly what i was looking for
Glad I could help
I received all this and I got a remote with mines and 2 rechargeable batteries that come with cables you sticc in the batteries for like $245 USD
Nice! there are some great kits out there :D
Is this light good enough as a key light for interviews ? With the softbox.
I've used it for a key light yes - the ML60. Godox SL-60 is alright at it, but I prefer the ML.
I'm wondering if you could link the stands you use?
I think you might be referring to the little ones I use. Here's a link to ones off amazon that are pretty nearly the same as what I have (the ones I got are from a local photo store): amzn.to/2LAxy9Z If you were referring to the other larger ones then you can easily find those on my kit as well: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker
Well as I checked the prices on E-Bay the ML cost more than 3X as much. Battery operation is cool but hand heald videolight is rarely needed. the SL60 is the buy of the day, very well priced...
Quite true!
@@FellowFilmmaker There are some Artic Silent cooler fans very cheap... not a big deal to change what came with it, although I think the two I have is from the second bench and I donn't really hear the fan noise (granted my hearing is not the best at 52 :-)
About how many SL-60w's can you put on a standard household circuit?
Depends on your circuit. Mine does fine with many powerful lights.
60W is will not have any impact on your household circuit.. So don't worry about power consumption. Your PC is probably consuming more than 500W without any issue.
What’s the lighting setup that you use? Color temperature?
Typically using 5600K for most things I do, just to make it easier on myself
@@FellowFilmmaker thanks.....👍
Hi
Can I use Sl60 for food photography ? Like Cakes ?
Yes you certainly could
@@FellowFilmmaker thank I just bought it after I see your video 😍 any recommendations about softbox to use ? Please
Thank you so much
If it's for the SL60 you can get pretty nearly any softbox, the octagon ones are great and typically pretty cheap as well, rectangle works just fine. I personally just have parabolic ones around so that's what I've used - if you wanted to see which ones you can find them on my kit: kit.co/fellowfilmmaker
@@FellowFilmmaker thank you so much very helpful 🙏🏻
The 60W is a parameter that refers to power consume, and lumens (lux) is when you need to talk about how bright a light is. The watts can be SOME related to how bright is a light, but it is not related in a linear way. I mean, if some light source of 60W power is 1000lux at 1 meter of distance another light source of 60W can be perfectly brighter at 2000lux. So, theorically Godox SL60 is 4100lux at 1m and ML60 13000lux at 1m, both are 60W power consume.
Correct :D
the fan noise is going to be the deciding factor
Yep, the ML60 is totally silent even when the fan is on
@@FellowFilmmaker will definitely consider buying it .. now considering between it and the Amaran 100
I realize this is an old video, but I wondered if there is a soft box that will work with the ML60. Love your videos. You are articulate, you get to the point, and you're really informative. Glad to have found your channel.
Yeah they make one just for the light, that I also have. Or you get the bowens mount adapter and fit really any modifier on the light.
@@FellowFilmmaker Thanks so much. Appreciate that as old as this video is, you took the time to respond.
Of course :D I try to keep up
Subscribed. Great channel.
Awesome, thank you!
Great review, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I was about to buy the Sl 60, but I may switch to the ml 60 now, as I thought the only difference was the battery. Keep it up.
Both are amazing, but I certainly love the ML a bit more myself. Thanks for watching
What about projection kit for ML60 ??
You can use any bowens mount projection kit with it if you get the bowens adapter for the ml60
@@FellowFilmmaker what about the result will it give effective result like godox S60 led focusing light ?
I just orderred today sl60 for my studio a little upgrate can you create a small video How can I use my SL60 as a key light with reflector to fill my other side of face?
I do have a video that covers that little big here on the channel called Using One Light, or something like that. I might expound more on it in the near future.
Very helpful and thorough! Thank you!
You're very welcome! Glad it could help
thanks for this video :) super useful
I think I would stick with ML60w, that sounds good😄💯👌 is there any ML100w ?🤔
There is not a ML100 yet, but then they do I'd be excited to know about it!
@@FellowFilmmaker ah yes, I was looking for it in the store but they say the same as you, so I bought an ML60w Bi. 😄
@@FellowFilmmaker I just got my ML60w Bi light, damn it was a bit of a beast of a light, even at 1% it shone strong 😅💯👌 at the moment I do not need an ML100 for sure. 😄 lol ..
Question: I'm trying to connect Xpro trigger to ML60w but it will not connect, is it possible to use ML60 as a flash? or is it only light controlled by the remote control and App
Nicely reviewed!
Thanks! Happy to hear that
Where did you get the text at 0:07?
I get most my graphics from here: simplevideomaking.com
thank you so much for the review ! cheers
You are welcome :D
Really informative video, great stuff
Glad you enjoyed it!
Is it possible to buy a remote for the ml 60?
Yes, it works with a remote
If you go to my video on the light I think I linked it in the description of that video
Good job
Thanks! :D
I'm shooting at the desk. We are talking about something at the table in front of 2 people. How many cm softbox would you recommend me?
For 2 people you need at least 90cm
Personally, If I can swing it with space I like to do a shower curtain cuz it's a great size and cheap option
@@FellowFilmmaker thank you for your response. You said at least 90 cm. So if it was you, how many cm softbox would you use ideally for 2 people?
If you have time, please kindly do a comparison between SL60M vs amaran 100d. Thanks.
Well I only have the 200d currently
Does it need a C- STAND or I can use a heavy duty light stand with boom?
You can use a heavy duty stand, I do that all the time
Excellent video!!
Thank you very much!
Hi can i use for godox SA-17 Projector
if you have the bowens mount adapter for the ML then yes, and yes for the SL60
I have the remote r6 and the ml 60 but i cannot use the remote whoever i set both of them same channel and same category , please help my
I'm not sure what could be wrong...
Did you set the ID, channel, and group to all the same? Those three have to be the same in order for them to talk
i interested in ml60 for my main light for my youtube videos while playing game or while talking about product review. is it enough?
It is for me :)
Nice video.
Many thanks! :D
Great channel! Thanks
Thank you too!
Sorry I'm new to all of this
Also, I shoot food photography cakes in specific do you think it would get the job done? @
Fellow Filmmaker
I'm not aware of it coming with a stand, unless you find a kit selling it like that. Usually it's just the softbox.
And I do think this can get the job done for cake work :D
@@FellowFilmmaker Alright thanks!
tks for this video
You're welcome :D thanks for watching
Any chance for a comparison to the JINBEI
EFII-60? It is cheaper but otherwise same specs (60w, NPF batterys)
I don't have plans for it at this time, but I can look into it. I think @NewLayer has a video on that light, maybe that can help meanwhile
@@FellowFilmmaker thanks! I assume all the 60W lights are to dark for working outdoor though. 100-150W battery powered would be great :D
Well ml60 price in my region already drop to 200$ because Aputure release 100d
Cool! :D
Well explained
thank you, happy to hear that!
superb.
Thank you!
my SL60W's tilt adjustment/yoke clicks at certain points and doesnt adjust smoothly, are there different versions of this light?
No, that's normal for the SL60w. The ML60 on the other hand does not have that issue, its smooth throughout.
@@FellowFilmmaker oh. hmm at 3:41 it looked like a seamless tilt adjustment. unlike the unit i have it takes some effort to tilt the head even with the knob very loose
Ah, mighta been the angle is all :p but I can tell you it is not smooth completely unless you have it super loose.
thanks!
Welcome!
Seems a bit steep in price.
It can be for some
The ML60 comes with the remote control
In certain kits you find online, yes

Al grano! Gracias =)
