    I got mine 2 days ago from Hilltop Cycles in Cranford NJ. It was the only one at 54 cm in their inventory. It was the best fit I ever had. And the geometry is perfect. I have a Cannondale SuperSixEvo in 54 but the Allez feels much more comfortable and fast even though it is about 3 and a half pounds heavier.

    I am grateful for in-depth reviews on affordable road bikes that serve many purposes. I purchased Allez in March, but went for the better-specced Elite version. The Shimano 105 shifts very neatly and without the slightest delay nor any noise. I am thankful for the smaller steps in between gears as it hast 11 cogs in the rear. The Praxis Alba crankset is a piece of first-class engineering and looks fantastic. The Tektro Axis brakes are much better than many people assume - Tektro has mediocre products in their range, but also some very advanced models like the 741 or the outstanding TRP line of brakes.
    The bike is, as argued in the video, fast and comfortable at the same time, and I never enjoyed a road bike that much!

    I have been riding this bike in size 52 (I'm 5'7) and it is a great bike. 8 speed shifting does result in some larger jumps between the gears so could make it difficult to find your optimum cadence. The wheels are basic and heavy but clearly both wheels and gears can be upgraded in the future if you wish. The carbon fork includes a carbon steerer which makes this bike standout to similar bikes at this price point which only come with an alloy steerer tube. Although beginner riders need to take care not to overtighten the stem bolts when setting up the bike to avoid damaging the carbon steerer. Obviously this should really be done with a calibrated torque wrench. The alloy frame is also an excellent part of this bike. Putting this together you have a entry level road bike with some budget components to allow it to hit its price point but thankfully with the prestige of the specialized name and great upgrade potential as you progress as a rider.

    I went with the Elite version for a little more, but appreciate the 11 speed 105’s way better over the Claris. The other choice was the Cannondale CAAD Optimo Tiagra, and I’m happy I went with the Allez for the ride position and slight component upgrade for about the same price.

I do also have the Giant. They are very similar but the Allez may do a hair better at the bumps because of its carbon fork. I would buy either again. I also put look Leo pedals on it and it is just a great ride. Honestly I think it’s all someone needs unless they are very fit and racing a lot. I initially thought I will just buy this until I can save up enough for a carbon bike. But I am so impressed that this rolls so good rides good the saddle is comfortable I am not racing yet so the weight on this bike isn’t bad I am very impressed with the quality and I am satisfied enough that I really don’t need a carbon bike right now I really enjoy riding it take one out for a spin I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised and enjoy the ride. • @FD-rh6tr
      @FD-rh6tr 4 года назад +2

      @@TuBui2 I only went this route because i wanted the specific red it came with at the time (Sport and Elite didn't have this color) so i had to get the base model.
      2. I knew i already was going to modify it so i went with the base model. It got heavy modifications (105 R7000, Carbon Aero Wheel, and pretty much everything got upgraded) Its a completely different ride.
      If you want to save money at the spot, spend the extra money and get the Elite model. But if you feel like modifying your bike to make it how you want, get the base model and upgrade later.
      You will probably feel better getting the base model and beefing that up (if you don't mind working/spending money on it).

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  4 года назад

      At least in my opinion there is nothing wrong with Tektro. They are a pretty class act company that makes a wide range of parts for the OEMs as well as branded. More than likely you already own some Tektro/TRP components.

    • @koko_5662
      @koko_5662 4 года назад

      @@Jamesthebikeguy Higher end stuff might be okay, but the stuff that comes bundled with a lot of bikes is fairly bad. Saying that I only ever tried lowest tiers or lowest end OEM. If i came across with a newer design, would of course give them BOD, nothing worse that "upgrading" brand new components. Saying that, I found Shimano components are better and work very well across the entire range, with weight and price being the only really true differentiators. Of course there are refinement improvements, but for raw functionality it is very good.

    I have the Allez Elite 2019, and its close to perfect, did not have to change anything. Bought a pair of clipless pedals and thats it. • @dragan796

      Hi Stephen! I would say for approximatly 1000 dollars, you get a bike with components technology and weight that some brands charge 1500 or more. My answer would be absolutely its worth a little bit extra money for the elite. The risk of buying a base model bike is that you eventuelly will want to either upgrade it or sell it to get a better one. My best advice is get the previous years model. Its basically the same bike but for 300-500 dollars less. I got mine 2019 brand new for 1000 dollars

    What type of Allez would you recommend for me?
    I’m choosing either the regular one, the sport, or the elite
    I’d rather get the cheaper one but I can still get the more expensive ones
    I’m not going to do crazy races or anything but I do want to be the fastest one in the group.
    What’s the difference between them?
    Also can this bike ride on dirt paths and gravel roads?

      I recently got a 2020 Allez sport. The differences between them are small on paper but add up to quite a perceivable difference when you ride. The ‘Sport’- over the base model, has one extra gear on the rear cassette, a slightly improved crankset and better brakes. The elite above that has lighter wheels and a Shimano 105 groupset (except for the crank and the brakes, which are the same as the Sport’s). Lighter wheels and a 105 groupset do make quite a big difference to the enjoyment of the ride, as lighter wheels accelerate quicker and more gears means smoother shifting. The range of gears between the bottom and the top remains the same on the 8, 9 and 11 speed cassettes but the gaps between gears (both physically and in peddling intensity) are smaller, meaning changing gears is smoother feeling and it’s easier to find the right gear that you want to be in. On the 9 speed cassette, I often find myself in one gear which is too easy and the next one up, which is too difficult. I personally went for the Sport because I already own a lighter set of wheels and plan on upgrading to a full 105 groupset (including brakes and crank, which are both left off of the Elite in favour for cheaper ones), but if I just wanted one to buy and ride it stock, I probably would have gone for the Elite. So in summary, speed and performance in terms of numbers and figures between the three models is going to be negligible but ride quality and ‘feel’ will be improved with each step up the ladder you go. Hope this helps.

      Also, comfortably riding on gravel might be asking a bit too much from this bike as the tyres are very narrow and tyre clearance for wider ones with more grip is very tight. They come with 25mm tyres but can take up to 28mm. I would personally be hesitant to do any gravel riding on anything narrower than 32mm with a bit of tread.

    I dont know why but thie bile feels like bad value for money. For around the same price btwin sells the triban rc 500 and rc 520. And these bikes come with shimano sora and 105 respectively.

    Aluminium doesn't flex. Aluminium work hardens quickly and fractures. That seat tube's days are numbered.
    You can always buy a new frame set, right? That's marketing genius.

      I guess all those aluminum aircrafts and trailers flexing and going through countless cycles must just fracture immediately... Good thing Specialized gives their frames a lifetime warranty.
