- Route 66 has a lot of great road trip stops in the state of Oklahoma. This was the fifth state that we entered during our two-week trip and we spent a couple days driving through the state and visiting spots like Pops Soda Ranch, the Blue Whale of Catoosa, and the Sandhills Curiosity Shop. Oklahoma might be my favorite state on the route and I hope you enjoy this video!

I was JUST at the Heart of Route 66 care museum last weekend and, despite the fact it was closed when you dropped by, I'm happy to report they have your full Route 66 video playing nonstop inside their main gallery!
I'm not much of a car guy, but it really is a great museum with plenty of classics and strange oddities. Staff is amazing and they have a scavenger hunt to encourage you to take a closer look at all the cars.
Love the videos, hope y'all are having a blast wherever the road takes to next!
Literally the part of him saying “a severe thunderstorm warning for two hours” right after seeing a beautiful night, might be the most oklahomiest things I have ever witnessed!:)great vid
Awesome travelogue. And traveling father-son is priceless. Enjoy the memories
I lived in Oklahoma city from 99 to17 and loved every minute of it. I hope one day I will find my way back to my beloved Oklahoma.
I grew up in Tulsa and as a kid my parents used to take us to go swimming at the blue whale 🐳, in the mid 70’s, they eventually shut it down because the waters became infested with snakes, and several kids ended up getting bit by water moccasins, they had signs up for warnings for awhile, swim at your own risk, “Snakes” but couldn’t maintain the waters, and upkeep in general, so they closed the swimming hole and the blue whale just sat empty for the longest time. I live in Oregon now, but went back to visit family a while back, I was surprised and it was nice to see they reopened it for touring, so I got my camera out and did a photo shoot to remind me of my childhood growing up there. And the fun I had swimming at the Blue Whale 🐳
Living here all my life its cool seeing all the route 66 stuff i have yet to find. The rock cafe is amazing food. I love finding places to eat on the route. All the old service stations and buildings. Gives q little glimpse of how life used to be.
BRAVO well done. Good video! I live one block south of 66 in Yukon OK.
My grandparents owned a farm and cafe/gas station/grocery in Warwick across the road from Seaba Station (shown in the video). My grandfather worked at Seaba Station at one time. Their tiny cafe seated 8 at a big L-shaped counter. Customers drove 8 miles out from Chandler to eat with Pete lining up several deep at lunch time to eat her blue-plate specials and her homemade pies and cobblers. When my mom was a child during WWII, ages 6- 10, she marched back and forth in front of the mailbox right there waving at all the troops driving by singing all the military songs like "Anchors Away", "From the Halls of Montezuma", and so many more. Route 66 has always been and always will be a huge part of my life.
Thanks for sharing ❤️🇺🇸
Wow your route66 road trip you did with your dad was awesome,.I have been to a few places you hit ,thanks for shareing it.
14:45 LOL. You are 100% my kind of men! Thanks so much, Josh and Dad - thank you for sharing your trek with us
Enjoy the time with your dad, mine passed in 2016 and wish I could do a trip like yours with him.
We used video to go through the state of oaklohoma. We had a great time. Thank you the food was great.
You've inspired my wife and I to plan a trip along the entirety of Route 66!
So awesome! It is a great trip
The car museum in Sapulpa is actually pretty cool with lots of old cars inside. The staff is pretty great also.
Gosh growing up in Oklahoma and traveling by all those places as a kid I didn’t appreciate it back then. I remember the round red barn before they fixed it up and it became famous :)
I need a trip back home !
I’ve always wanted to drive Route 66 and your videos could not have come at a better time! So glad I found your channel😊 so inspiring! Thanks for sharing your trip and tips!
if you go back down route 66 going through Vinita, inside of that McDonald's is a little route 66 store. there's also a cafe called Clanton's there in Vinita. Guy Fieri visited there in one of his episodes of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. he said they have the best country fried steak. and he wasn't kidding. it's the best country fried steak I've ever had. I will definitely be following your route 66 visits.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing we are actually using your video as a guide for out trip through Oklahoma!
Hi Josh, I'm really enjoying watching your route 66 videos as we were recently at a few of the places you highlighted. The opportunity to travel with your Dad is priceless. Looking forward to seeing your next video. ~Lucy
Thanks for the comment, glad to know you got to see a few of these spots as well! I agree, it was pretty great to be able to do the drive with my dad.
Your videos are the BEST! Thank you for sharing your experiences. They greatly help me planning our trip.
Love following the journey. Got a laugh out of the soda challenge. Worth watching just to see the amazing round barn. Thanks for letting us tag along. Drove 66 way back in the 50s when my family would travel from Kentucky to California to visit relatives. Lots of great memories and a few old videos.
Great video series. Thanks for creating it!
I really enjoyed this trip, thank you. Looking forward to our next visit. Loved your positive approach.
Sids is a MUST!!! I think you did a great job❤️ the blue whale is my favorite place to go!!
I lived in Weatherford for a year! Not much to do there, but rent was only $110 a month! Oklahoma has a unique earthy smell. I kinda miss it sometimes.
some of the best people I know come from there. James Garner, sheb wooley,my father-in law and pastor
Thanks again for sharing 😊
The family and I are making the trip from St Louis to L.A. this coming July. Thanks for these vids. Were sure to use them well.
No problem! Glad they are helpful!
Are you still planning on going with the chinese virus? We are thinking about RVing Route 66 from Tulsa to the Grand Canyon, hopefully avoiding the virus.
@@bobgil3464 That Whale Was Their in The 1960 s.
F. G. D.
My dad Bill Swan made a lot of iconic fiberglass statues which are placed along Route 66 some of which are in a short Amazon book for only 14.99 called "The man behind the mufflerman ".
About 4 mi. East of Foyil/ Rt. 66 on Hwy 28 is the utterly charming Ed Galloway Totem Pole Park, as seen here near the end.
My mother, Ms. Ginny K. was a very active member of the Rogers County Historical Society, which is nice, lol. But she was also the one who repainted the Totem Poles while in her late 60's. I think the tallest is 90 ft., too!
We used to stop at Pop's in Arcadia and the Warwick motorcycle museum all the time when I was riding with the local scooter club.
9:45 Butcher BBQ stand. The Twinkies for dessert is a nice touch, LOL.
Stellar job again brother! Thanks for helping us keep Route 66 going!
Thanks so much for the comment, I will have to check out your videos as well!
I'd be honored for you to do that. I'm not as smooth as you. However I love Route 66 and it's people so much. www.markskicksonroute66.com
I'll share your work in my Route 66 Facebook groups.
I still think it would be cool if some of these now-closed attractions could be reopened and manned by people who are currently houseless/homeless, and for a place to live, they man the shop or oversee the attraction and share the history and added tidbits of information about it. Anyone who is willing to relocate would be considered. It would help these people to feel reconnected to society by having a place to live and a job that helps preserve the history of a major piece of Americana.
if you ignore the mental illness, alcoholism and drug addiction that got them there in the first place. Dumb idea, but noble.
Great video. Well produced.
Alas, my dad hated traveling. I hope that you enjoyed your time on the Route with yours. It sure looks like you had fun.
Hi Josh and dad! Thank you guys for the amazing videos. I can't wait for the next one.🇺🇸💜🦄
Well - we feel like we missed out! That gigantic lit up pop bottle is fantastic! :-P We just got back from OK over Thanksgiving. Oh well - guess we'll have to make another trip!! Great video!!
This is my favorite video so far of Route 66. Keep up the good work.
Thank you, it was probably my favorite state as well!
Thanks. Awesome video.
Overall a great video. The section on Davenport was actually 3 places. The service station was Davenport. Rock Cafe was in Stroud. And the Chrysler sign is Bristow (My hometown).
True, the Blue whale is also among my favorite road side attraction in Route 66! Awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
Listening to Grapes of Wrath on the way - wow Im impressed.
When visiting Pop’s on R66, you missed out by going when it was closed. Inside is decent food, great souvenirs and hundreds of different soda’s from all over, some, truly bizarre!
I enjoyed watch your video! Yes ,'It is so good the onion burger' at Sid's . :)
We are in Flagstaff AZ and Rt 66 runs right through here...very cool, good job 👍 thanks for your work🏵️🙏🦁🌵
As an Oklahoma photographer who does some Rt66 photography, I think you did an excellent job. Thanks
Thanks, I really appreciate that!
Oklahoma has all of the best places in route 66 🙂👍 and your channel inspired me to travel to places i never been to but I'm willing to give it a try 👍 and it's cool to see the neon lights because those are cool and retro 😎👍 and the food there looks great to eat👌.
I'm loving watching your videos. So much nostalgia Travel Safely
Thanks for watching them!
I try to watch other channels with this Rt 66 footage, but watching yours first, They're just not good enough. Great job!
1:40 Elk City. By the time he was 21 hall of fame song writer Jim Webb had written "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Wichita Lineman," and "Galveston." He went on to write other famous songs. He was born right there in Elk City.
Roger Miller and Shep Wooley was from Erick, Ok.
Del Stanley thanks. I did not know that.
At 0.22 you're standing right outside my former apartment when I left college 😊 for that building was right nearby. If you Google Earth it you'll see that crappy apartment right on Garth Brooks Blvd (part of 66) and Cornwell Dr. I shrieked out when you showed that Grain silo thing 😅 it was a great location cuz when the ice storms hit I couldn't get out of the driveway so I'd walk to Arby's or Braums from there.
Also I'd stop at Sids and it was always closed the decade I lived in the area. I'd sit in the parking lot waiting for my client appointment. I knew it was famous but I couldn't afford it then.
You missed the Gold Dome a couple of blocks south of the Milk Bottle building on Classen!
Several inaccuracies...
Thanks for the big shout out to Tulsa ❤
Love your videos they always make me want to pack my car and hit the road!!! Safe travels!
Hey Josh! Thanks for all the great things you said about and showed in my home state! Now I HAVE to go see all of the great stuff! I already knew about and visited the whale and grew up around the Townley’s building in Oklahoma City as well across the lake from the Yukon’s Best!
oh and in Oklahoma the town of Miami is pronounced Miam-uh. Though I don't know why.
The better question is why is it spelled Miami when the Miami Tribe pronounced themselves Mi-AM-uh?
A lot of American place names are pronounced differently from their spelling.
Awesome. I'm planning on a Route 66 road-trip, but I'll wait until more things are open and back to normal. I want to be able to stop by all the cool spots without them being closed.
Great job! Very positive and interesting take on old Route 66.
Omg I feel bad u guys missed eating at Sids diner. My wife and I stopped there on our way to California in 2010 and we STILL remember the awesome taste of those onion burgers.
Bummer! We got there like 5 minutes after they closed. So close!
Robert's Grill is better.
Another great video! I did Route 66 with my Dad in two segments. The first from Rancho Cucamonga to Tulsa in 1994 and then 2001 from OKC to Chicago with my Dad, Mom and Son. Oklahoma may be my favorite Route 66 state too. It’s fascinating to see how many things have changed since then. Many originals (people and places) are gone. Most of the museums you feature are new since then. I have gone back and done several Route 66 segments in OK again more recently and plan to do the entire route again in my RV in 66 days the other direction from Chicago to Santa Monica.
I am envious in that I wanted to collaborate on a magazine article on our journey. This was well before “easy video” was possible. How many days did your drive take?
Hi Josh my partner and I drove Route 66 last year the best time of our lives and we now watching the journey with you. What was your favourite place out of the whole trip? Thanks Sofia x
We are from Manchester UK
Nice video. It shows what a truly wonderful amazing place Oklahoma is. Oklahoma really has a lot to offer. In Oklahoma City a person could be there 1 month and not see everything. I am planning my vacation there this year after watching this video. Oklahoma has just about everything a person could want.
Well...
For a sentimental road trip perhaps. Otherwise, no it does not
I have a T-shirt that is from Pop's Soda Ranch that I found in a thrift store here in Fresno California, and when I bought it, it was like new.
Amazing Video bro
Thank you!
Right on once again🤙 Keep Jammin~
Thanks for watching!
I'm sorry you didn't get to enjoy Sid's Onion Burger Diner in El Reno. It's amazing. I have done a commercial shoot promoting Route 66 for its anniversary celebration later this month I will see if I can attach the link for you to watch. If so the first two people you see in the video will be me and my wife along with two other couples with kids that were part of this major production.
Pronounced Miam-uh for Miami, OK
i have seen some of these, but i never had time to stop so ty very much.
I prefer Johnny’s to Sid’s but to each their own. Both are great.
Theer is also a Weatherford, Texas. I lived there for about 2 years. Sometimes shippers will not look at the state in the address and send packages to the wrong Weatherford
Yes!!! Ed Galloway's Totem!!!!
Sid’s Diner in El Reno. Great food, great service and very popular. Didn’t try the onion burger but the burger I had was nice and juicy.
I love you're channel super awesome.
Oklahoma state here ❤ 🙏 ✝️
I love this videos!!
I hope the people who operate the round barn were nicer to you than they were to my brother and me around 18 years ago.
I HAVE BEEN TO ROBERTS AT EL RENO, JOHNNYS IS ALSO AWESOME FOR BREAKFAST. ONION BURGERS AT ROBERTS AND HIS LINK WITH HOMEMADE CONDIMENT IS AWESOME
Sid's is excellent and well worth a stop in El Reno!
Or even better, Robert's Grill, also in El Reno. Best anywhere.
1:06 😂😂😂😂 worth the whole video
MY AUNT USED TO GO TO THE ICE REAM LITTLE BUILDING WITH HIGH SCHOOL FRIENDS
Left out Buffalo Ranch which is now Woodshed but it still has Buffalo and you missed going through what's left of picher Oklahoma where I was born and raised right on Route 66 + 69 you can see what they've done to my hometown
stunning
Really enjoyed this video. What books and/or websites did you use to plan your trip? I'd like to see if there are other sites in the towns you visited that our family might like to see when we visit this summer. Thanks!
Sid's in El Reno is totally worth it in my opinion and that Yukon's Best Flour elevator is actually in Yukon about 20 minutes from El Reno.
Robert's Grill serves best onion burger, anywhere.
Thanks for the information and what places that you recommend for the route 66 mementos along the Mother road. Thanks for your time and professional experience
Great videos! I've noticed many locations were closed when you got to them. Was it after hours, or are they closed, closed?
Really enjoy your narration, nice to be able to watch with my grandkids and not worry about what will be said, or how. Thanks!!
Usually if a place was closed it was just too early or too late in the day. We tired to do as much as possible but many places wouldn’t open till 10 and then often closed by like 3. Depends on the area though
@@ThroughMyLens We hope to do this trip some day.. Thanks again for sharing this with everyone. Very helpful. Tell your Dad hello.. We look to be similar in age.
MET A GENTLEMAN WHO USED TO GO TO ORIGINAL LUCILES DOWN THE HIGHWAY FROM THE ONE YOUR AT
If you have little kids while in Tulsa check out the gathering place
The Gathering Place is a massive, free, world class park ("Top 10 in the world"- National Geographic) set along the Arkansas River, miles of trails & more than you can do in a day 💚
If you have kids, don't miss it. But it's for adults, as well. Any and all ages. There are restaurants, cafes, boating, miles of paths winding through lush gardens... It's an incredible gift
You missed the water hole restaurant and the one room Jail in Texola.
I live in Oklahoma and I eat at sids all the time its good but a bit expensive
Do you explore the history of Route 66 in each down or just see the attractions? I just completed Oklahoma. I explored all the history, so I was curious about the best route.
I'm surprised you didn't show where the route is a one lane rd. Cars have to move over to get by.
I know price changes but I wish you had included admission prices
FEW BLOCKS ON 25 STREET IS AN ASIAN GROCERY STORE THAT WILL TAKE YOU TO ASIA, STREET GOIN TO CAPITAL IS AN AWESOME VIETNAMESE RESTRUANT NUMBER 6 IS REALLY GOOD ON MENU
Great filming of the route 66!! :)
What camera are you using?
People need to learn that by tapping the title, a whole description opens up with a ton of info
Looks like there actually is enough to do.
cool video
Mufflerman was made by my Dad Bill Swan
if you come to Oklahoma and only visit sights in brick town on RT 66 your missing s hell of a lot of good stuff Oklahoma is a great state with a lot of goodies to see
Can you tell me what to see. I am planning my vacation in Oklahoma this year. I may vacation in Oklahoma every year.
crazy but i think i seen you on your journey in oklahoma ...at them gas pumps/ service station
Did the owl court gas station ever open?
