Thanks for your videos and inspiration Josh. We made it at the Texan Big Stear and loving every. moment. Thank you again, as well as a big shout out to your dad. Well done, keep your channel going. Heading west.
My Dad Bill Swan made a lot of iconic fiberglass statues which are placed along Route 66 some of which can be seen in a short Amazon ebook called "The man behind the mufflerman ".
My husband and I are planning a start to finish Route 66 trip with our 15 and 9 year old kids this summer. Planning this kind of trip can feel overwhelming, but your videos have helped us state by state and city by city. Thank you so much!
I love Route 66! I love the Nostalgia it brings when watching videos like this. It's like a time machine that take you to a beautiful time! The cars, diners, motels, drive inns, and all are beautiful! Thanks man for your efforts! You have done a really good job! I watched your videos from Arizona to the last. Really good!
Back in June of 1994, I stopped in at the "U Drop Inn" at Shamrock, TX and had a lunch which consisted of bowl of chili, a grilled cheese sandwich and a Dr. Pepper. A very tasty meal!
@@jerrybennett7856 I remember passing through Shamrock, TX in 1970 as a kid with my parents on a road trip to the southwest. It really didn't impress me back then. Guess it always was "a little rough around the edges."
i spent the night at a hotel about three or four buildings down from the historic conoco station in shamrock a few months ago. was so cool to see it lit up at night!
I broke down in my semi at the leaning tower of Britten, the original owners son runs a mechanics shop there so I got to talk to him for a while. It was once the site of the largest truck stop in the country and it burned down. The tower was designed to lean like that and is designed to stand up straight if it were to start falling.
Cool video you guys 😎👍 it's awesome to see everything in Texas still around today 🙂👍 i always wanted to go see Cadillac ranch because it's cool to see the 10 Cadillacs buried in the ground 😎👍 and all of the restaurants look great and the food looks fantastic👌but aside from that Josh you are the best at taking a clear view for your videos 👍👍📹.
I actually just ate at the Beef Barrel Burger about two weeks ago, when I drove from Arizona to Amarillo, via Route 66. The four quarter pounder special is now up to $16 (from the $13 in the video).
First the Cadillac Ranch today is not in its original location. Property values caused the previous spot to be developed and the ranch was moved. I visited the original ranch in about 1990 and at that time people were not painting on the cars and some of them were still dripping oil. The "slug bug ranch," "Bug Ranch" or "Buggy Farm" is sort of a parody of the Cadillac Ranch, the building there was a trading post and when a big travel center open across the freeway they figured that if they could siphon off some travelers their gas station and the rattlesnake ranch could make it, they didn't but the Buggy Farm remained, all the bugs were originally, I'm told, a bright yellow. I think I read somewhere that the Crutchfield Family owned the entire premises, but where I was there in 2018 it had long been surrendered back to mother nature.
You didn't mention the name of the town for the Dew-Drop Inn, Shamrock. And 6 miles north is Twitty. But I'm glad you got the Dew Drop. Also the Cadillac Ranch. And Amarillo. And that big cross at Groom, circled with the Stations of the Cross. Thanks, y'all.
Looks like an amazing time! Great videos my friend. One question i do have, maybe answer it at the end of the series, How much was your total cost Gast/Hotel/Food for the entire trip?
There are lots of neat things to check out in Amarillo, TX, & surrounding areas. One really neat spot is the Jack Sisemore RV Museum (free) located at an RV dealership. Super neat & definitely worth the trip. Also, there's the Amarillo Railroad Museum (only open limited days/hours, but also a great stop). The people at the museum love sharing info. There are also more quirky cool roadside attractions (just Google things to do/see in Amarillo, TX). There's a Quarterhorse Museum that's pretty neat as well.
Been watching your videos all day ...on New Years Day. Love them. How did you find out about all of these places before you left California? Did you do extensive online searches? I especially love the museums large or small. Museums are hard for me to leave until I've seen everything!
Yea, a lot of spots on the route are gone. That is the main reason why I wanted to make this series as you never know how long some of this stuff will be there.
Josh that opening shot with the tower leaning. I had to stop the video and imagine all the cool things a person could do with that. I can see why you used the locality as your opening. Here is one I thought of. Lean the camera so the tower looks vertical and the land looks slopped. Grab the fence post and lean with it. In the shot it would look as if the world is turning if using creative transitions. Pretty cool too.
Hi, I'm watching your videos taking information for a trip between Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana that I would like to do in the summer ... I see many snakes in museums and shops, luckily fake ... of real snakes there are many from those parts? 😱
I drove by those cadillacs Nov.1974 before they were all painted up on my way to Calif. for my Army tour there. All the way from Ga.

This makes me want to drive on Route 66
Texas is awesome
I remember frequently going by the Cadillac Ranch when the cars had only factory paint on them --- but that was in the 70s
Cool to see so many places have been preserved. Something cool about these old towns with the motels, gas stations, etc.

I'm planning a Route 66 road trip this summer. So glad I found your videos, a great resource for me. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Great place to stop. I always stopped there for lunch. Too BAD shamrock is a dying town.

I love the Big Texan . A friend of mine ate that big dinner, two of them and they cut him off. Now they only let you have one.

The food at The Big Texan is great. I heard that one fellow ate TWO of those 72 oz. steak dinners in an hour!
Super Cool~Much Obliged/Mahalo
Cool videos. We just finished an I-40 trip across the country.
Hey, thanks for making these videos, lots of good info, I really like your California videos.

Great video. I-40 is great but it killed lots of small towns. I was wondering if there are many or any exits around these ghost towns.

Up on I-40 is a Route 66 inspired rest area that is pretty neat.
Dang About time I been waiting for the next video Josh lol
haha! Every Saturday morning I will be putting out another one.
Glad Amarillo and the panhandle treated y’all well. It ain’t much, but it’s home.
I haven't spent much time in Texas but I really enjoyed it!
@1:42 🤣 I sat in that very spot when I went there in 2018.
🎶🎶Get your kicks, on Route 66🎶🎶
Good job👍
Wow amazing video

That steak was raw 😂. Went straight from the butcher to your table

6th street area in Amarillo is good. The U.S. Route 66-Sixth Street Historic District comprises 13 blocks
It’s sad how most of these businesses is now abandoned on Route 66, but at least some turned into a Museum

I actually had the exact same hotel room at big texan 2 years ago 😂
haha really? That is awesome
@@ThroughMyLens yeah. :)
You missed the "Blarney Stone" in Shamrock!
👍👍nice
The Buddy Holly statue in Lubbock.
I been to rattle snake ranch they had the longest rattle snake on despay
72.00 for 72 ounce steak is incredible bargain... in NYC 72 ounce would run over 200.00
great video what mic are you doing the voice overs with it sounds great
Sorry you didn't visit Historic Route 66 in Amarillo.......it's SW 6th Avenue....damn shame
We were wanting to go see the Cadillac Ranch but it had just rained and it was packed and muddy.
Bummer! It would be tough to get to if it was all muddy and wet for sure.

I live in the small town of Groom
Noticed that there were a lot of places closed. No way to know it appears so it's hit & miss.
Hello, we are driving from Los Angeles to McAllen, TX can you tell me if we pass any of the route 66? Or how near we go???
Alla rout 66 ai souvenir dovrebbero fare dei portafogli in pelle con la stella di sceriffo a l'esterno, in vendita😴😴😴👍👍👍

Very nice video! I'm an influencer on Route 66. Thanks for keeping it alive. What camera are you using? Video quality is on point.
I’m curious Josh, what’s your zodiac sign? My guess is Sagittarius
My brother could eat that steak in one hour. Sometimes I wonder if he even tastes the food he eats.
Why has the New Mexico video been taken down?
It hasn't its on my channel still ruclips.net/video/YCUpaA-OYcg/видео.html&t=
That link you posted in response to my post works. However, the one up above in the description, doesn't. Just an FYI.
