This kid is awesome. And this is a great example of how you can expect it to sound under different conditions. Believe it or not even electronic drums sound different once you hear them first hand. You're always going to lose something in transferring signals electronically through mics or anything. "Wide open " with the wrong mic is not going to convey the sound of something in the best way. Whatever that means. That's why we add things like eq and reverb and compression. The point of music creating something that sounds good for one and captures the essence of an emotion secondly. Rant over… These are the best takes on you tube. If I want to hear a kit I come here to see if they've played it…😉
Ok. The easiest thing to do is download EZ Mix 2. There are several drum presets on those you can use. The recording will sound super professional when you are done. All you require is a mic and Audio interface like focusrite.
Just buyed this kit, but 7-pieces version, sounds really great! Still have to buy tomheads to improve the sound, the original ones aren't so bad, but i would preffer them as in this video, Evans EC2? :P By the way, which snarehead do you use? Thank you! Cheers
To answer the heads question since it looks to me like it is not answered it looks to me like there are evans logos on the snare and tom heads and there is a ring around the tom heads so I am sayin evans ec 2's on the toms probably a g1 on the snare and not sure on the kick but that is my take on it I hope this helps!
+sm6758 Gretsch all the way. I have this kit (just 6 pieces though) and it's incredible. I always get compliments on the sound and sustain. So easy to tune. You also need to think about the hardware. The Tama and PDP hardware you really have to tighten hard so everything stays where you want it. The Gretsch hardware ware you just give it minimal tightening and it stays there.
Keith Richards liver close mic a kit and you get the sound of the shell and the effect the head being used has on the sound of the shell. if you dont close mic, you get room sound. so ask yourself, do you want to hear drums? or room? on another note, without the use of a microphone, there would be no sound and youd be watching a video of a guy hitting drums with zero sound. use your brain sir.
Jonathan Besterwitch Not talking about a video of how the drum sounds. I'm talking about what the drums sound like with no mics. IN PERSON! with you playing them! Use your brain sir.
This kid can play really good, but out of all these videos, only the PDP Concept maple and DW performer drums were tune well. All the rest have horrible tuning and sound terrible. The best sounding intermediate kit is the PDP Birch. Even though they weren't tuned well.
You are a fantastic drummer and these drums are tuned so beautifully that it makes me wanna buy a thousand catalina maples
I have yet to see a drummer on a Drum Garage demo who wasn't incredible. Keep it up!

definetly ec2's the bass drum looks like the evans emad (my favorite drum heads btw)
Wow that end rack tom sounds like a 14 inch floor tom.
The drums sound excellent. What kind of drum heads are you using?
Which did you prefer between this kit and the superstar hyperdrive?
Love those cymbals by the way what are they?
What drumhead did you use for teh toms?
Im between this one, the Pdp Concept maple, and the Tama Superstar, all 7 piece, any suggestions?

dizzytoledo why 6 and not 7. I am currently looking at the Catalina maple now
I asked myself the same. Thanks for the answer, I'd like to switch from Pearl export to Gretsch Catalina Maple
In the same boat myself!
Do you have the Tune for this? cheers

How did you tune this snare? It sounds brilliant! (Do you have any tutorials?)
generously tight top and tight bottom i have mine tunded very similarly
Do a tuning video man
OMG you replied XD. So happy Gamsamneda
which heads are using in this kit? I mean, which series of evans heads?
please someone answer me!!!
Evans EC2 for the toms!
Do u like this better then tama hyper drive ?
What finish is this kit?
I just bought the 6 piece (22, 10, 12, 14, 16, 14-snare) used with no hardware so I got a great price.
Do a drum tuning tutorial
look up Rob Brown tuning videos. Changed my life!
Is that a 14x14 or a 16x16 floor tom?
16x16 :)
What crashes does he uses?
I believe those crashes are from the Meinl Byzance Extra Dry series. You should check out their Hi-Hats as well. They've got an amazing sound!
Jordan McCullough They are Basileia Gemstone cymbals.
A picture of a 18" crash: www.pinterest.com/pin/369717450630978886/
They are beautiful!
The kid is really good, he's holding back though, let it rip
Rack toms 2 and 3 sound dead. Need tuning. I have G2 coated on mine and every tom sings. It's all in the tuning.
no views?! but im watching it right now! lol
why my snare sounds shit? my kit is the same :(
Ting Hin Lam tuning, and drum head play a huge role...
My Catelina snare sounds awesome! Make sure bottom snare head is tight but not too tight. Tune batter head medium tension.
What is your favorite kit in this segment?
Mike StClair
When I want to hear the way a kits sounds. I want to hear them with absolutely no mics! Wide open! Until that, You have no clue what you are buying.
Keith Richards liver boo fucking hoo.
Keith Richards liver
Just turn the sound all the way down on your youtubes ya dinkus!

+Keith Richards liver you will only be able to get that sound if you're there in person.
Hard to hear the Kick
I wish they would include the "silver sealer" in the catalina series.
dizzytoledo why do you need silver sealer? These sound great without it.
This is Korean :) I am Korean :)
Mienl Byzance Dark series
Play the damn thing man!
Dahm those cymbals looks ugly the would newer win a design contest
Do U even know how to set up a DRum
He sure does. They've got one of the best drum sound tests on RUclips.
