Beautiful. And appreciate the paint recommendation. I will be doing this to my Supra and sand off the rust issue I have. The paint finish came out awesome and looking forward to learning my spray pattern and distance
I really look forward to your videos, your attention to detail is amazing. I can't wait to see the finished version of this truck! -- And then, an excuse for you to start a new project! I hope all is well!
I'm currently working on a ln65 myself, mainly panel and paint. Your videos really help with planning my next step and what the standard is for my work. So thank you, from one hilux enthusiast to another. :)
Came here after watching your latest, when you pulled the cab. Never got the notification about this one, so thought I'd let you know. RUclips has been doing this lately.
I have the same valve cover and it had imperfections like that too. I used VHT black wrinkle paint and it looked okay but started to flake off. I pulled the valve cover off my 87 which is less rounded and more square and sanded it down going from coarse to fine and then I polished it to a mirror shine. I should have put a 2k clear on it when I was done but didn’t and now it’s no longer pretty like it was. Get a later 22r valve cover and polish it! It would look really nice. I also ordered another factory 22r sticker.
Thanks 👍 I’m still so far away from finishing the body that I haven’t thought about getting around to painting it… but I’m leaning toward white or blue, since one of those would match the blue interior.
This looking great the couple questions I have tho. I see that on those side panels there's an old seal still attached. Why you didn't removed that and repaint. I don't know but I'm curious. Should this surface actually needed to be paint? Will there be any rust problems in the future?
Those seals on the top edges are a sticky rubbery/tarry strip that add a layer of cushioning for the fender that bolts on top. No need to remove/replace them as they don't dry out and are completely hidden.
Are you going to part out the rusty frame at all? Still looking for a Pittman arm for my 2wd 87 and was wondering if the one from the 80 is the same. mine has power steering if that makes a difference.
I read that the 79-83 is different than 84+(I actually need the Pitman arm from the Ohio truck because the Oklahoma truck didn’t have one.) I will part out any good bits from the Ohio frame eventually, but first I’m going to use that frame as a place to set the 4runner body when I restore that truck.
Still waiting for you to do a valve cover in flat red wrinkle...like a Ferrari...Think the defects are oil in the cracks....Thank for the heads up on the paint...store bought never lasts...You know they say dont eat spaghetti wearing white?? I have a white truck/engine bay and would do a different color to hide the dirt ect but does look nice..for now
I have some wrinkle paint… this valve cover might be a good candidate if I can’t clean up the crack. Yeah, I’m crazy for the white engine bay, but I think it will look good with the cleaned up 20r.

Can't wait until laser cleaners are affordable 🎉
Lazer for rust removal as a household item is a pretty good idea!
They're not cheap yet, but they do pay for themselves pretty quickly in time saved.
Nice job. 1000% improvement. Thanks for another source of 2k paint. OEM colors too.
Thanks 👍

Thanks, I already have my next project lined up 😁

I wish I could get my hands on a ln65... but we never had them in North America.
Good job. I like your attention to detail. Good luck with your project.
Thank you very much!
Fantastic results.
Thank you!

Hmmm good to know. I've heard of that happening to other channels as well. Maybe the algorithm is upset with me...
Your work is so pro, bro, always love watching it. Great job here, thanks for sharing with us!!!
Thank you!

I would try ceramic coating after polishing. Not sure how well clear coat will stick to a smooth polished surface.
Always enjoy your channel and your ambition.
Props to you on the hard work. Wish I could do more things like this.
Everything on that car looks better in white than blue. How do I convince you to spray the outside white? Excellent work BTW!

Hey great video and info. What’s the name of the company you got the paint from? Thanks
They're called ERA Paints, link to their site is in the description. Thanks for watching!

@@6thGearGarage Has to be red...rip off LCE..lol
Will the laser also remove remnants of a gasket?
Yes. It won’t remove the entire gasket, but if there is a little bit left stuck to the surface, it does remove it.
Question why not leave the bolts in ?
You could do it that way, but I'm eliminating some things from the engine bay, so I wanted the paint to cover all the way to the bolt holes.
Question, after all that prep work, why not use a 2k primer?
I used the self etching because i already had it
that laser cleaner looks awesome..Id love to get one, but I bet it costs a fortune
Yeah they’re a lot cheaper than a few years ago, but still start at $4k-$5k
Could it be you have found micro cracks or casting imperfections in the aluminium of that rocker cover?
Yes I think that is the problem. It never showed with the thick paint over it.
@@6thGearGarage Maybe a coat of spray putty after brushing it down with acetone or something aggressive?
What was the cost difference of the 2k cans vs regular auto paint?
I’d say almost twice as expensive as the cheap lacquer paint.
Leave valve cover be. Don't like white especially. In engine bay..
As long your happy with it. Good job.
You are using homelander lazer beams. Remind us why you are using rattle cans
Lol good point… I like spraying engine bay with cans because it’s faster and easier when you don’t need the large spray pattern of a gun.
Wtf where do I buy a laser lol
China lol, better hurry before the tariffs kick in! Here's a video all about the Laser cleaner: ruclips.net/video/rQxZAFO8vx4/видео.html
Surprised he invested into a laser cleaner before a paint gun and air pump.
I do have a paint gun and old compressor, they still work great.

RUclips translates the languages automatically. I do not know all the languages.
I hope Trump comes back...we need him more than ever..
Bro. If he did, a lot less people would be struggling to afford a $30 spray job for a bay. But bidenomics works, right. Fml
He is back🔥
