I have watched 10-15 other videos trying to figure out what quilting is all about. I thought it was all about squares. Now, I understand what is really important. Thank you for this wonderful video!
The best teaching video ever. Thank you! I really love that there is no hurry, no haste. I have the time to process and learn. I never thought I'd watch a video this long, but it feels like sitting with you in your room. I' m not that patient and often cut corners "to create that rustic look", or to just get it done so I can start another impulsive project, but now I can do it with an air of the correct technique at least. ❤
Nice to be able to help. Don't worry about the size of your stitches, just get them even.
Gorgeous! No one teaches this anymore, thank you!
Actually, Alex Anderson is a great teacher & has been teaching at least since 1990's. She has many, many hand quilting videos available AND she is left handed.
@@nancy-katharynmcgraw2669 … Also.. look at Becky Goldsmith. She has excellent videography, with real close-ups so that you can see what she is doing. She also offers online classes.
I agree.Hand quilting is an art that seems to be mainly taught in families,
I've watched a lot of videos and yours is the only one I've found that explains what is going on with the bottom hand when stitching. It's as if a light switch was turned on for me. Thank you very much.
Really glad you found it helpful. made my day!
This was an absolute joy of a lesson, thank you so much for this video. I was searching for a simple diy quilting project to use up some nice fabric scraps i didn't want to go to waste, but instead i found a master of the craft, and i am humbed. I really did not know how intricate and beautiful the actual stitching in a quilt can be.
I feel so very fortune to have found this wonderful video. I learned so much from it, that's unbelievable! Thank you very much for sharing😊
Happy to help. Enjoy your stitching.
I wish my grandmother was alive as she also hand quilted. Thank you for doing this on RUclips for me to learn. I have learned so much from you. It beautiful and planning to try it.
Thank you!! I feel like I just attended a class for beginners. You explain everything so well, and it is a joy to watch you work. You have so much expertise!!!
I'm glad you found it useful. It takes a while to master the quilting rocking motion, but it's well worth the effort
This must be the best video ever just brilliant thank you soooooo much Sandy
If only more crafts or all crafts could be passed on this way to the next generation how wonderful would that be, we would have a lot of ancient knowledge. Thank you for this.
Thank you so much, I really enjoyed watching your stitching. I recently found my first quilt that I had hand stitched over 25 years ago, but never finished because I developed Carpal tunnel syndrome. This was before the internet and I didn't know anyone who quilted to show me how it should be done. I was using a running stitch like I've used with regular sewing or embroidery. Now that I've watched your video I will pick it up again and try to stitch using the two thimbles. I didn't pick up quilting again until last year and have been doing machine quilting which isn't as rewarding I imagine than hand quilting. Again I thank you for such a clear tutorial.
Your instructions are marvelous! Been quilting for 30 yrs, you covered such important issues. I learned much from this video, Thank you, and please keep teaching us.
My mom hand quilted, she embroidered tops then allowed me to patchwork. The quilting frame was a part of the dinning room… she gifted me with a white on white that totally shows off her work. I cherish it. Glad you’re showing how to keep that hand art alive. Thank you.
I learned how to hand quilt when I was old enough to do I, about 50+ years ago. I’ve made quilts for my children as wedding gifts, parents and in- laws plus a few all hand quilted. It is fun to add personal touches into the stitches, their hobbies etc. it makes for an even more personal gift. This is a nice video teaching a dieing art. Thank you.
❤ no wonder it to dine art. LOL do you reckon I'll ever be able to do that I think I'll just buy me a sewing machine. LOL I most certainly not going to give up before I start I'm going to give it a try and I'm going to stay with it till I can prove to myself whether I can or I can't do it. I'll tell you for sure it takes Talent!!!... I will probably need a sample on every finger that I've got on my hand LOL yes ma'am you do beautiful work and only those that try it can really appreciate the work and the scale that goes with it❤ I don't have the words to describe how envious I am of you LOL you are one Treasure of a lady excellent video excellent shots add excellent instructions. I can't praise you enough n o r e thank you enough for sharing such a beautiful crafts or should I say a work of art❤❤❤❤❤❤ just excellent !!!!!!!!💯

Happy to be of help!
Thank you so very much. This lesson was just what I needed. God bless you.
Great instructions, just about to do my 1st hand quilting, so glad I found your video before I started. Doesn't feel so daunting now I've seen your video. Thank you ❤
I have wanted to learn hand quilting and this is the best instructional video I have found. Thank you.
Absolutely the best quilting tutorial I have seen.
Best intro to hand quilting I've seen yet. Thank you for the deep dive into threads, needles, thimbles and all of that.
I'm glad you found it useful
Thank you so very much. I am now 70. When I started quilting this was how I started out. I think I may go back and hand quilt my next quilt. I have been using my sewing machine. I appreciate the reminder. Your work is flawless. I appreciate you. By the way, I actually use a leather sticky dot on my underneath finger. I started out using blue painters tape but after getting stung I switched to the leather thimble. On top I use my fingernail. I have never been comfortable with a thimble on my finger. I wished I had learned to wear one but have tried many and just never found one that was comfortable. I use a large oval stand up frame and straight back chair when I quilt. The last quilt I did was a Queen size.
Brilliant teaching. Wonderful skill. Thankyou
You are more than welcome.
WOW ❤ Very informative tutorial for hand quilting. You are a master of hand quilting. You have inspired me with practice and patience I can do it too.😊
Don’t know why I have not seen this before Sandie. Brilliant masterclass.
You are amazing! So talented and a great teacher-thanks so much for sharing this.
4 days of watching videos and yours is the most informative. Thank you so much.
Thank you, hope you find it all useful!
Thank you for this video! Your explanations of material and supplies needed as well as your demonstration were extremely helpful to me.
i am so glad i found you. I wondered why machine quilts was stiff looking. Thanks for that answer. I want to learn hand quilting, so glad i found ya also.😊
Glad it was helpful!
So glad I found you! Most hand quilting videos are older now, I didn't think anyone was uploading them anymore.
Thank you! From Baudette Minnesota USA ❤
I've just finished piecing & preparing the backing for my very first quilt & wish to hand quilt it. This is the best tutorial so far that I've found on youtube & has made me understand the importance of a practice piece. It's so comprehensive that I've taken notes & it will be my reference during my hand quilting journey. Bravo & merci beaucoup for taking the time to make it. Kind wishes from the French Pyrenees.
Glad you found the video useful. I suggest you try using a quilting pattern that avoids as many of the patchwork seams as possible...it will be sooo much easier if you! Bonne chance :-)
I hit the button too soon. I have very fond memories of her and her friends quilting and they'd have the best time. It's an art and in this fast pace world not many people have the patience or skills to quilt by hand. Your an amazing person with much patience and I enjoyed your video so very much! God Bless you! 200 quilts!! How amazing....😊. Your pieces you showed are absolutely stunning.🙂
Enjoyed your video. Always learning to make my quilting better. Your teaching is excellent. Thank you.
How lovely your work is, Sandy! You’re so kind to go to all this effort to share your talent and expertise! Thanks so very much, and I do hope there will be additional films to follow. Perhaps a beginner series with one of your patterns we could purchase from your site…
Thank you. I have plans for more videos eventually. The pattern in the video is available on my website at no charge, but there are plenty of other patterns available for purchase.
Thank you! You’re an excellent teacher! I understand more. Now thimbles make sense. Thank you 🌻
Beautiful work ❤. Thank you from Alabama USA!
A comprehensive guide to hand quilting. So much information about every aspect of it, and as someone who will be undertaking my first attempt at hand quilting shortly, I'm so glad I found it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to record this. SO HELPFUL for us falling in love with hand quilting and wanting to start ^^ I Dream of having a nice group of people all hand quilting together as I have seen was done and more common in the in the past, such a wonderful art
Me too. I've always wanted to start quilting and sewing with a group of other like-minded crafters. ❤️ 🌹 😊
The most gorgeous quilt ever. I just love it!
Seen your quilting and so excited by your video. I am an in hand quilter but I think with watching you I will give a hoop a try. Thank you.
Good luck Susie. Just remember the tension in the hoop should be as if the cat has sat on it!
I highly appreciate the hours. You have mastered how to hand stitch. You are truly are an expert, and I will be watching and learning. Thank you so much.
Thank you for such a comprehensive course in quilting
Simply stunning, Sandie! Incredibly informative and what fantastic tips you have given us along the way as well - loving your sense of humour too ☺So looking forward to seeing more!!
What an incredible informative video class. That whole cloth quilt behind is absolutely breathtaking!
You have inspired me to pick up my needle and hand quilt again. I have been hand quilting since I started quilting in the 80’s. But have never had a lesson. Just did what felt good. It surprised me how much of what you’re teaching, I already knew how to do. Everyone else I know is a machine quilter. Or else they send out their work for someone else to quilt. I just don’t like that idea. Now I am inspired to set up the old quilt frame and start my newest masterpiece. Thank you so much!
Thanks soooo much ! I love your work and this amazing Tutorial, much love from Auckland, New Zealand 😘😘❤️❤️❤️
Sandy thank so much I love this pattern. I find hand quilting a soothing relaxing time for myself. This is a skill not too many do anymore. 😊🥰
Thank you so much for the wonderful and detailed lesson. You gave valuable information for free. I think now I can make a perfect quilt. I wish you all the best. Good health to your golden hands.
Thank you :-)
thank you! I learned a lot about Batting and Threads and markers! Can’t wait to try this! I will be watching all of your videos now. Thanks so much for doing this!
Sandie, So glad to see you on RUclips!! Your quilting is beautiful. Looking forward to seeing more instructional videos.
Thank you for teaching. You do a magnificent job and explain everything so well. Blessings to you and keep it up! We need you!
Clear and concise instruction, thank you!
Wow. Ive been hand quilting for years and thought I knew it all! Lol! I love your quilting and teaching techniques and your great sense of humor. With regard to practice, my husband always says, "After 46 years of doing this, I am an 'over-night' success." 😂 Sharing your knowledge and encouraging patience and practice is very much appreciated. I do hope you will make more videos! ❤❤
Good Luck! Yes it will take time, but the effort is worth it!
Sandie - Oh my! This is the best video on hand quilting I have seen! Watched mesmerized from start to finish. You covered so much and left nothing to chance. I have tried quilting in the hoop but couldn't master it. Bought everything, but couldn't do it! Now I only hand stitch straight line accents w/o a hoop on my domestic machine quilted quilts. You have inspired me to try again! Great job and thanks so much!!! 😊
Try the hoop again, but don't have your work in it so tight. It makes an amazing amount of difference!
Thank you so much for teaching us this fabulous tutorial. I try to teach myself from books but this was treat. God bless you. Regards Vera from Northern Ireland ❤
Thanks so much. As a beginner quilter, this was so helpful.
Thank you for this comprehensive lesson on hand quilting...I too believe hand quilting is invaluable.
Thank you so much - what a superb tutorial - I’ve been practicing all evening ❤
Great news! Keep going....
God Bless you!!! Thank you for posting this EXCELLENT!! tutorial for quilters who share the same sentiments about Hand quilting. I’d rather do fewer quilts so that they can be hand quilting.
Thank you so much! This is the best tutorial I have ever seen for hand quilting! 🧵
I wish you were around when I first started quilting. There are so many questions that need to be answered, and you have the answers. I had given up quilting but, now I may try again thanks to you.
What a great video. I am looking forward to improve my work with start including some of your advices. Most likely it will take a few weeks before I will be used to it, but it´s very good to see such an experienced hand quilter teaching and talking like I would have a hand quilting class lesson. - Very happy, that I found this channel.
Glad it helped
I've never made a quilt, always had a hard time finding a teacher that doesn't use a machine. I have a machine but it just doesn't work anymore. I'm clueless. So, since I hand sew maybe I can make a quilt! Material is what I need, I must find a way to get material now! Thank you ma'am for teaching! You are most wanted! 🙏
Finding fabric will be easier than the actual quilting, but it is so much fun. Glad you find the video useful for your new quilt-making journey! Goood luck and happy stitching.
@@SandieLush oh thank you so very much! Greatly appreciate it! 😊
Love that you just really dive right in to your teaching🙏💕Beautiful work your sharing.., THANK YOU!
Thank you for sharing your life's work. It's absolutely beautiful! My grandmother quilted. She had a wooden frame over her extra bedroom bed that could be let down from the ceiling and she'd sit and quilt for hours. And lot's of time's her friends who quilted would come and they would make a day out of it and lunch, etc. i
Quilting in a group at a frame can be great fun...though there always seems to be more chatting and less stitching!
Beautiful hand quilting. Thank you for the tutorial 😊💕
What a lovely lady and great tutorial - the best one I've seen. I'm only half way through watching but I had to say what a fabulous teacher! I wish I'd found you earlier ❤. EDIT: Watched it all now, I finally understand the rocking technique - thank you for sharing your skills! 🥰
Thank you very much. I've learned a lot from your excellent lessons. I am a hand crafter but I have never tried quiling by now. This video was so inspiring, I may try it out on a little piece of fabric . ❤
Good luck. It might take a bit of practice!

Thank you so much. I was trying to teach myself how to hand quilt but gave up because I couldn’t find tutorials for what I was looking for.
Thank you
Thank you for this tutorial. I learned so much. Have been searching for a proper hand quilting video. I feel confident that I could make a start.
What a wonderful tutorial. Have never watched anyone hand quilt. This was so interesting. But can't imagine how hard and time consuming it would be to do a large quilt.
Thank you for the very detailed explanation! Beautiful work and valuable experience ❤
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial I'm thrilled that you now have a youtube channel!! I've been hand quilting whole cloth quilts since 2010. Started with the pre-stamped kits and thanks to your "Welsh Quilting Design" book have moved on to designing and hand quilting my own Welsh beauties. Hope to see more videos like this one!!
What a great video! As someone considering hand-quilting, you gave me a good perspective from which to decide. Thanks so much for your time and dedication to creating this informative tutorial. 🙌🏾👏🏾💕
Happy to have been of use. Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic teaching video. Thanks ever so much ❤😊
Oh my goodness Sandie what an amazing video, thank you. I have been looking for this very thing and have come across many tips in inverted commas which went against the grain as an embroiderer and seemed to be a technique for speed. It was so nice to find someone from here in the UK and who went through the process from start to finish. You are an excellent teacher and I do appreciate giving us your experience on what you could use and the pros and cons. Thank you for taking the time to make this extensive video. I have now subscribed and will go back and watch the others.
What a wonderful video, Sandie!! Thank you for explaining and demonstrating every part of the process. I'm anxious to give it a try! 💕
I'm so happy I found your channel. ❤ Thank you 😊
