That kit originally came with 8 hollow vinyl tires, 4 wide Goodyear Polyglas and 4 narrow Firestone bias ply. All are common, same tires in many other AMT kits so you probably already have them in your stash.
I have this kit built and one unbuilt. Good kit. Builds easy. I first had this one back in 69. It was molded in green. Hope you plan on building this Galaxies soon. Thanks for sharing Matt.
I also did the curbside AMT 64 Galaxie a couple of weeks ago and that one was a real pleasure to build as well!!.. What an easy body it was to detail!!
I remember that box art when I was a kid my favorite box art. I had 66 mustang, 64 Impala, 69 Chevelle kits with that box art when I was a kid. That sounds right for the prices. I remember 3 dollar to 3.50 a kit back then. Wish I still had them. My buddy back in high school had 66 Galaxy with a 7 liter 428
I think I remember that green molding on the early iterations of this AMT kit; someone i remember built one in the aforementioned green. He dropped the glass unit and did it in when he crushed it, but he persisted and did the kit stock.
The series is called the countdown series and you're 66 Ford galaxie was a part of that and there was quite a few that were in the countdown series nice find at a nice price
White with gray interior built as a stock restomod retaining all the stock faithful body components would do you, AND the car justice, Matt. I could do without the pinstripe watersheds, though. And don't worry; this is ONE car that'll be legal without the aid of license plates!
Cool model Matt! I've got a couple of the AMT/Ertl releases that I don't recognize some of those parts. The AMT model is the 7 Liter version of the Galaxie. So it would technically have the new for 66 428 engine in it. The 427 was also offered that year and available as an option on the 7 Liter. Emberglow is my absolute favorite color for the 66 Ford, (MCW has it btw) so check it out if you are going to build this model. I look forward to seeing your take on it.
As Others Pointedly Out This Is The Special 66 7 Litre Galaxie Only 5,000 Were Made It Was only Made on 66 The Faux Slot Mag Hubcaps were only used pm this Car Factory The Box Art Has this Mislabeled As Galaxie 500 XL 7 Litres Had a Unique Grille too
My pops had a auto body shop for years when I was a kid an was always bringing home some kind of hot rod one of his regular rides was a galaxy 500 former police intersepter with a 390 3 on the tree it was really really fast
From what I've read, Ford built two SOHC 427 Galaxies. One a 65 and one a 66. They were built to combat the Hemis at Nascar. But were not sold to the public.
Great unboxing Matthew, nice looking kit.........The Bearded Guy
Got the Round 2 reissue of this kit earlier this year and have it next on my to build list. Good to see what an earlier version of it looks like.
I believe the AMT '66 Galaxie is a 7 Litre version...check the emblems on the body.
It is.
Very cool box. Nice looking parts that hood is super cool.
Nice unboxing! Thanks for sharing. 😎🇨🇦
That's a really cool looking kit.🤠👍
I've got 3 or 4 those nice kits.. building AMT 65 galaxy now its the 7 liter and has opening trunk. Thanks Matt 👍 👍🙏
Nice!!

This is another great kit. I have one molded in red.
Very nice unboxing. I enjoying looking at model kits; especially, the older ones. Thanks for sharing.
👍🏻👍🏻
Matt you got to build this one way cool
Great video on a terrific old kit.thanks Matthew
Thanks George!!

Nice!!
Great looking Galaxie, brings back memories, my best friend in high school had a 65,🎅🎁🎄
👍🏻👍🏻
Those old amt kits had the best mag wheels ever!
👍🏻👍🏻
Cool Galaxy. 👍
Part of the "Countdown Series"
I built that kit many moons ago. I should get another one as the one I built has suffered the fate of being moved too many times.
Hey Matthew I don't get to say it Merry Christmas you're missing two axles four tires two drag slicks and tail lights have fun
😬 oh boy!
One of my favorites
I think I remember that green molding on the early iterations of this AMT kit; someone i remember built one in the aforementioned green. He dropped the glass unit and did it in when he crushed it, but he persisted and did the kit stock.
I did a later version of this one a few months ago . It's a really nice kit to build IMO!!
The series is called the countdown series and you're 66 Ford galaxie was a part of that and there was quite a few that were in the countdown series nice find at a nice price
👍🏻👍🏻
Maureen your focusing problem comes from constantly moving the part trying to get it to focus.
That looks great Matt. Box art made me think of the first one but the kit looked too nice to be the first issue. Thanks. Ron
I don’t think they offered a single overhead cam that year.
You must be glad it does not have a hideous molded in chassis. Those molded in chassis are a deal breaker for me. Thanks for showing what it is like.
👍🏻👍🏻
I have the recent Round 2 release of this one. I wish Round 2 would find the molds for the '67 Galaxie and release it, it's my grail kit.
👍🏻👍🏻
Nice kit there Matthew
nice kit i did not see that one at the show

No watersheds. I favor a clean cut roadburner.
I've been to the Ertul company in Dyersville Iowa, before they sold the company to ever owns it now. It was in the early 2000's
Build it stock! Never been a fan of that hood scoop ( too pretentious ), always been a fan of the Craeger SS wheels
That is a 7 liter (428 ci) engine. The 86 ertl release gives that info. Also look at the emblem on the front fender.
I'd get some white walls and build it stock, but I'm guessing you'll go with the SOHC and tear-drop hood.
Over head, you mean over the valves?
May need to get one to build a replica of Jay Leno's car
Yep!
Tires and axles off a donor kit may help in said dilemma of missing components.
That is absolutely a 427 FE. Both in wedge and Cammer form. Too bad they didn't offer a 428 FE as a stock option, there are differences.

The air intake with both large hoses are snorkels
my Ford has the doors & hood & trunk open.

That's cool!
i had one of these with a 352 v8 burnt gold with a white top automatic tranny
hey Mat this would have been a 427 or a 429 and there was NO over head cam ford motors in the sixty's ??????????

I think the first race was in 1964 with the SOHC 427. So yes they did have them in the 60s. 👍🏻👍🏻
