Again, such fantastic video paired with accurate, factual narration. As a professor of ichthyology and fish ecology (and long-time aquarium fish hobbyist), I really appreciate the beautiful and informative content you produce.
❤ Fabulous! ❤ Pearl Gourami are my favorite fish. Because of the Gourami disease, I haven't kept them in over 25 years. I miss having them very much. They are very beautiful fish! Thank-you for capturing this and sharing it with us!
Beautiful fish and video Dave. Interesting point to note is that the male drives the female away after he is finished spawning but the female still has thousands (not hundreds) of eggs inside her. Unlike female bettas who in a similar situation will expel the surplus eggs and eat them, the female Leeri can spawn almost on a daily basis until her cycle is over. 🤓👍
Yes, I've noticed the same thing. And as I was looking at the number of eggs that came out during this video, I thought to myself, wait a minute she's expelling more than a hundred eggs each time she releases a few eggs! Once again you have me questioning myself and the information that I provide. Perhaps I'm removing her too soon. You are a true master of the craft. . . Thanks for sharing your wisdom. 🤓👍
@@TheDave333 a lot depends on how many fry you want to raise and the local market size for selling your fish. Unfortunately, more LFS have closed in the UK than have opened. Also many of those willing to take your fish want to give you credit. The problem with this arrangement is that they’re paying a wholesale price for your fish and charging full retail value on any goods you use the credit for! Because of this, I cull all my broods of fry rather than raise fish that you cannot sell (something that I hate doing!). The spawning that you documented in the video would result in 1,000+ fry if you had successfully raised the whole brood.
Oh yes, I understand this all too well. I was practically giving away my German Blue Rams and Angelfish a few years back! I "sell" many of my offspring for store credit to a local shop, but they're the only small store left in my area and we have a great relationship. So, I try to help them out, and they give me great deals. I sympathize with their plight fighting the big box stores and online stores. . . I get $3.00 a piece in store credit for 2 inch (50mm) bristlenose plecos. I let the store credit build up and I haven't had to buy fish in many years. It's not an ideal situation, but I rely on that little store for lots of things, so I try to help them where I can.
@@TheDave333 My second favorite is the sparkling gourami with its blue eyes, glittering sides and the way it can bend its head around a corner like a snake.
my paradise fish spawn every week, i have over a hundred half grown, and they are already spawning again in their grow out tank. i have no way to find homes for this many and i must let further spawns be eaten by the rest. i am gifting them a half dozen at a time to a fish shop, but they hardly sell. so it could be a problem...
Hello, I had a similar situation with my Paradise fish many many years ago. They are truly an underappreciated fish, and I couldn't sell them fast enough. They're super hardy and very beautiful. More people should keep them. I had a similar problem with my Kribensis. They bred like crazy and I ended up have to give the babies away. . .

They’re so beautiful & fun to watch! I just got a couple sparkling gourami for my 55 gallon tank… they’re really fun to watch 🥰😍♥️
Sparkling gouramis are fun, and when the light hits them just right they're gorgeous fish! ❤
Wow. Stunning and great work
Thank you so much 😀
Fantastic video, full of life and love ❤️ 😊
Thank you so much! The fish did most of the work.
@@TheDave333 and they seem very happy too. 😍😁
Awesome video! Have you had any luck keeping Pearl Gouramis in a small group as a species only tank?
Yes I have! One of my favorite setups of all time!

long time aquarist here. GREAT video :)
Thank you long time aquarist. They're such amazing fish. 😁
Amazing content my friend! How many tanks do you have?
22 tank filled with water, and many others without water that I wish I had room for. 😁
@@TheDave333 Awesome! I have 18 (mostly small ones) and I’m trying to squeeze 2 more when I can make more room, lol.
PS: I love your avatar!
Thanks for watching my videos and taking the time to leave a comment.
Just like me and the lady after a long night!
lol ❤❤❤
It's true relaxing time watching them, they kiss each other in kind manner . Beautiful pair.
Do pearl gourami pairing temporary or for lifetime?
Temporary. I've changed their partners several times with no trouble.
@@TheDave333Thanks, good to know.
Did you ever see lionfish in the Caribbean? They're an invasive species there.
I never did when I was growing up, but they're there now. There's a bounty on them. My brother, who still lives there, sees them every so often.
@@TheDave333 People are even trying to get sharks to eat them.
I guess people can eat them too!
Pearl gouramis are my favorite gourami. Both are beautiful as a rule but their breeding dress is absolutely stunning.
Agreed! I'm also a big fan of the turquoise dwarf gourami. They're a lot more aggressive, but they're beautiful too. 😁

They're on my to do list as well! So, many fish so little time. . . 🐠🦈🐟
The Blue World has videos about feeding gilt-head sea bream. I highly reccomend thar too! 😁
I'll check it out!
What is your favorite piranha?
The kind that's not in the lake where I snorkel! Red-bellied I guess.
@@TheDave333 I'll go with that one two!
