I heard the middle lead guitar solo in this as a kid in 1958 and asked my Dad what that was. He said "That's an electric guitar, Tommy." I have been playing guitar ever since and still support my family as a musician. Thanks to this record ;)
I sing this to my little dog Lola. She loves it. She gets all excited, runs around and acts silly. We have a great time together. Thank you Frankie Avalon.
The opening is similar to Ritchie Valens "Come on Let's Go" which tells you it's going to be a great tune. I envy those who lived as teens at the time. I was just 4.
On this day in 1974 {May 17th} Frankie Avalon appeared on the NBC-TV program 'The Midnight Special'... He performed a medley of his hits; "Why" {#1 for 1 week in 1959}, "Just Ask Your Heart" {#7 in 1959}, "De De Dinah {#7 in 1958}, "Gingerbread {#9 in 1958}, "Bobby Sox to Stockings {#8 in 1959}, and "Venus {#1 for 5 weeks in 1959}... R.I.P. Robert Weston Smith {aka Wolfman Jack; 1938 - 1995} and Mr. Avalon will celebrate his 74th birthday this coming September 18th...
R S, of course it does, sound like RS, the studui guitar player guy here with young Avalon arranged this sweet musical gem. -this musical cat is ripping and is giving tribute to Richie Valens. It is NOT a ripoff by any means. Be well
Hardly...in the 50s, this was a cute...fun song and it still IS... Just wish they had mastered it in stereo, like his later songs (like Venus for example)...There was two songs Frankie "held his nose" (on purpose of course) while singing to make his voice sound more nasal, Dedee Dinah and this one (Gingerbread)...

I heard on an interview that Frankie actually hated doing this song because he had to sing with his nose and he called it embarrassing lol! it’s definitely catchy though!
Frankie Avalon personified cool I don't know you know imma keep on going without this guy not being around I love him so much as a gingerbread cool to the tea cools the Cucumber Frankie I love you God bless your family keep doing it love you Frankie
BackSeatHump Ah, I see. I have just been getting into these old Avalon tunes. Venus is clearly the best to be honest, but there were far worse than this guy in the 50s, that's for sure:)
Jon Ngog Yes, I agree about" Venus" and as far as there being far worse ......... that's for sure! Some of them were handsome young guys who the record companies thought they could promte and no one would notice they couldn't sing. I suppose TV was to blame. Do you remember Tommy Sands "Sing Boy Sing" or the Serendipity Singers "Beans in My Ears"? Not many people do! I'm not even going to talk about Tiny Tim "Tiptoe through the Tulips"!

You are reading my mind. All you needed was a handsome face and an H.A. wax pompadour hair style back then. It's songs like this that we forget about when we talk about "the good old days" of rock and roll. It weren't all "good".
i swear to God, when I heard this for the first time a few weeks ago i thought he sounded like Lou Reed did on some of his songs, or the other way around maybe, are there any Lou Reed fans out there who feel the same way?

WOW! First time hearing an electric guitar! I recall my first time hearing a harpsichord and being so fascinated. Same with the synthesizer.
@@wendi-bnkywuv Ha! First time I heard a harpsichord was here:

Loved it!

LOL
Clint Ballard Jr. wrote this song.
Great fun lovin’ song.
Your story is cute.
How is Lola doing now? I have a cat by the same name.
The opening is similar to Ritchie Valens "Come on Let's Go" which tells you it's going to be a great tune.
I envy those who lived as teens at the time. I was just 4.
This song is so cute, and that electric guitar is so captivating.
Rock´n roll days were very good and they still are.
Lena Lundberg love this song gingerbread
Ahh the 50s music alive and well
What a great song I haven’t heard this for years :-)
Love so many of the oldies, but I don't know this one - love it!! Thanks so much for posting!!
I love Frankie Avalon 😂 this song is cute
The music sounds like "Come On Let's Go" by Ritchie Valens
Teen idol Frankie Avalon later did all the beach films with Annette Funicello in the sixties
Including the last one "Back to the Beach" in 1987 when Annette apparently started showing signs of what eventually would take her from us. So sad.
Wow i found it in 2020. I remember this as a kid but not sure wer i heard it! Maybe sum ad.
I came across this from a Fallout Game Xmas Livestream last decade, worth it. Gingerbread: Sweet & Spicy...Naughty yet Nice😈😇.

Who decided that Frankie Avolon could sing?
Anyway, thank you for posting it, Vintageart1994!
Check out 'Venus' and 'I'll Wait For You' for examples that the guy could sing. Very well.
Jon Ngog
Well yes, "Venus" was pretty good. I don't even remember "I'll Wait For You"
BackSeatHump Ah, I see. I have just been getting into these old Avalon tunes. Venus is clearly the best to be honest, but there were far worse than this guy in the 50s, that's for sure:)

What's the main theme of this song?
this song scares the shit outta me

Like do the ostrich era?
Ya think they could have sprung for a lyricist, perhaps? The music is catchy but is this song about a girl or 3 dozen cookies?
Paul Fisher I think it's about the hot girl in my profile picture lol
anyone else here because andy hates it
turnleftaticeland im here bc of that...why does andy hate it so?
Its Bad
SQUAD UP
Hopefully the 50's were much better and wilder than this silly song..It's obvious this was made for pre teen girls..Great backin' sound 'tho..
