Just the other day I was reminded how GREAT 1959 was!! This song played at work...and when I looked out the front door at work, there was THE car that is my ultimate FAVORITE car...the 1959 Cadillac coupe convertible!!! When I saw it I was ELATED!! FRIGGIN AWESOME car!! LOVE IT!!! Also BARBIE came out that year!! GREAT year!!!!
Peggy here-from the first time I saw Frankie Avalon on American Bandstand and saw that gorgeous smile, I was hooked. Have had the awesome pleasure of meeting Frankie personally 2 years ago and then saw him again in concert last fall. Two of my lifetime thrills, for sure!

Thought this was a cute song and of course, I had it. I remember sometimes American Bandstand would interview some of the singers at their homes and one time they interviewed Frankie Avalon at his home with his dog which is whom the song was about. Can't remember if his dog was a collie or a boarder collie as it's been so many years ago and I had forgotten about it. Don't recall if the dog's name was De De Dinah or just Dinah either. Just thought I'd throw in a bit of trivia.
It was definitely a pure breed collie. His collie escaped from his cherry hill home mated with a German shepherd and he gave me and my parents one of his collie puppies. The dog was very mean and we had to get rid of him.
Have some musician friends who worked with him about a month ago. They say he was great, still singing his ass off! The consummate professional, at 75 yrs. old or so! I'm impressed!!
I was in the 6th grade in 59,60. At that time Pat Boone used to wear white bucks, it was the rage. I had a pair and they came along with a little rosin bag to dab on the shoes when the color faded..

Just watching him reawakens those teenaged hormones! An absaloutely gorgeous young man. I got to see him up close at a ringside table at nightclub about a year after Venus hit the charts. A far cry from Justin Bieber, this man was smooth, suave & sophisticated. I wish he'd been able to do more challenging material, like Broadway.

I see this took place eleven days after "the day the music died,"when the trio of The Big Bopper,Buddy Holly, and Ritchie Valens were taken away too soon. Frankie himself must have felt badly about their untimely ends. Still, even if he was still sad about it,that sure did not stop him from having a marvelous time, singing his big hit "Dede Dinah"live,on American Bandstand! Very reminiscent of,the 1958, this song is,that's for sure!

I've often thought that Frankie Avalon and Frank Sinatra looked alike in their early years..... skinny with similar mouths, and the way they hold their arms out when they sing on stage during the slow songs!
According to the Press of late 50's, he was always being promoted as the next "Frank Sinatra". While Frankie was suave & sophisticated, he was also a very sweet person devoted to his wife. Frank Sinatra was a very powerful man, he was uber talented, but not "Mr. Nice Guy". Frankie A did not have it within him to want that kind of power.
Love his music and I am happy him and his wife are together God bless them both. 😊😊😊🎉
