My favorite part about this fight, besides the music obviously, are the sounds that Flowey makes. Throughout the whole fight, whenever you hit him, he'd let out this fake, mocking little "Ooh!" He's toying with you. But once you get his health down past the halfway mark, he's letting out violent, painful sounds, *_"GRUEGH-"_* At that point, he realized; no more games. You're not backing down from this one.
Another thing that I noticed is that Flowey's movements are slowed down when his defence drops to zero, he's weakened as the souls are refusing him and are fighting back, and as soon as the part at 1:00 kicks in, his movements get faster, despite being weakened, he's panicking and like you said, he realises; no more games. In his last ditch attempt to kill you, he throws EVERYTHING he can at you (which is why his movements get faster and his attacks drastically speed up). It turns from a one sided battle to a fight to the death.
I absolutely love Finale, i can't even put it into words, but it feels like every fallen child's hopes and dreams. Their final stand against the pain they've been through. And somehow, somewhere, Asriel sympathises with them, evidenced by the small His theme moment here. I wonder if Chara was watching him. Maybe he felt their presence.

So, fun fact. At about 0:40 there are very faint sounding bells in the background. You might need headphones to hear it. But it's actually His Theme playing. I love the tiny details like this. It is the only one of Flowey's songs to feature His Theme in any way. Flowey is so close to becoming Asriel here, he just needs one more soul. But he just can't get out. It's insane how much stuff Toby adds to his games you'd only realise on 2nd playthroughs
The thing that got me during this fight was the healing items. There's fried eggs, thumbs up, bandages, flowers, musical notes... and then there's the purple Soul's contribution, which is just a word from his notebook. *'[HOPE]'* Those kids are literally giving you hope that you can win.

unpopular opinion: this is the greatest song in the undertale OST. it's incredibly fitting and OH MY GOD 1:00 GIVES ME CHILLS EVERY TIME. it's been 3 years and i'm still not over it.
Now THIS is how you do a boss fight. Sans is intended to make you feel guilty, with the battle dragging on as your final struggle. Asriel has the player remember their whole journey and the friends they made. But here, it's just you and Flowey. It seems entirely hopeless. But you continue, knowing there must be some way to win. And that's also the message of the game, of determination. As the souls help you, the battle becomes one of even ground. That epic feeling of low to high is amazing. And all of this is conveyed through the music. Probably why I love it so much
Fun fact for you the reason omega flowey loses control of the souls is because there isn’t a monster’s soul for them to be attached to thus giving them the freedom to do what they want
0:40 I choose to believe that some sliver of Asriel's spirit was fighting back, helping to release those human souls in a desperate attempt to be freed; a glimmer of hope against terrifying odds- and that this is why His Theme plays beneath the chaos, quietly supporting Frisk when he needs it most.
Honestly, I believe that Asriel theme here plays so faintly its to show you can't spare omega flowey. This isnt who Asriel is anymore. While Asriel theme plays clearly in "Save the World" to signify you can save Asriel. Also, flowey's theme plays also clearly in "Hopes and Dreams" to signify that this isn't the true Asriel even though he may look like that, it isn't his true him and still has somewhat of "flowey" still inside of him. While flowey's theme in "Save the world" plays subtly combined with Asriels theme playing clearly to show that he even though he may look still evil, you can still save him! It's just a very cool thing I noticed. It's incredible how even through Undertale's music, you can get a clear understanding of characters and events and even story just by paying attention to it and noticing the various leitmotifs hidden inside them.
It's interesting you think that, and a lot of people do misconcept Flowey as well but Flowey and Asriel are the same being with no change in personality at all, Flowey at first wanted to help everyone and then realised about the resets and that nothing really matters so he eventually stoped caring about the people (or monsters i guess) he loved, i like to think that the his theme part means Flowey is almost ready to become Asriel, because we can see that when he aborbs everyone else's souls he finally becomes Asriel Dreemurr again
@@adambrando3792 Flowey literally has no soul, no compassion. Asriel is a very different entity even if they are technically the same person. It’s an interesting theory, but Flowey acts nice at first not because he cares about anyone (he has no soul, remember?) but because he still has a moral compass, therefore wanting to do good. But the part about him realising that nothing mattered is very true!

I never realized until now how this is, despite technically not being a "real" final boss to most people, is actually a perfect final boss for the neutral route, considering that you have to both act and fight to beat it.
And it's the boss of no mercy route,and you technically can kill him if you try for years.Which it can get hard to kill in no mercy (basically genocide but you don't look for them,you just kill the people in the way

Toby's such a godlike composer, this song gives you such a determination boost when it starts playing during the final push of the boss fight. You feel invincible!
This boss battle is god damn perfect. Every little aspect of it, from the presentation to the music to the gameplay, is executed flawlessly. Throughout the battle, there's that sinking, awful feeling of despair as you're faced with an abomination that you can never hope to defeat- who is so unimaginably powerful that your only chance at survival is to dodge frantically as the universe is literally crumbling around you. There is nothing you can do but cower in fear as Flowey torments you with his powers, saving and loading files to disorient you, channeling the power of each SOUL to attack you, crashing the game, etc. But then, that glorious moment, when those five blessed words appear on the screen: "Flowey's DEFENSE dropped to 0!" Now you have a chance. Now you can finally give this damned flower what he deserves. Now... you are filled with DETERMINATION. Personally, I like to imagine that the increased damage is not only a result of the SOULs lowering Flowey's defense, but also a result of Frisk finally regaining the will to fight back. They'd given up any hope of seeing their friends again or returning to the surface, resigning themselves to this fate of eternal torture, and they were unable to bring themself to do more than a few points of damage. But then, the SOULs give them an opportunity to fight back, to be reunited with their friends. And they take that opportunity, with everything they have.
Frisk determination is only so strong, Flowey had all the cards here, even DETERMINATION wouldn't have won unless it was the DETERMINATION of either Frisk pacifist ending or Chara's, all six other souls betray flowey and helped you, that's all, amazing six souls i must say :D
Determination should be like: Frisk(Pacifist) And Chara> Frisk,Flowey, Sans> 6 Humans Souls>Asgore>Undyne>Toriel and so on, this is more like an order of power.
I love so much the fact that at 0:40 you can hear Asriel's theme playing quietly in the background. At this point, Flowey is only one soul short of returning to his true form, and the music shows how close Flowey is to becoming Asriel. This small detail also shows that somewhere deep inside Flowey there is still Asriel. Toby is a genius.
The two things that i found that reference flowey being Asriel before the true pacifist ending is during the new home sequence, one of the monsters says asriel died in the flower patch, and then in the genocide ending he says he became flowey. Then there’s that thing.
To be fair, he is the Default Final Boss for an average run of the game, I'd say the real final boss's name, but I don't wanna spoil you if you haven't got the true ending yet.
All of the Undertale final boss themes are some of the best ever, I like Finale just a little less than Hopes and Dreams/SAVE the World but WAY more than Megalovania. But none of these themes can even COMPARE to: Death by Glamour
It's sad that most people are too busy focusing on the battle to actually appreciate the music. And to top that off, the attacks block the song out too. We need more people to give attention to this song, it's a literal Boss Battle Banger!
i love how the "His Theme" leitmotif plays in the background at 0:50. shows how even when flowey literally becomes your best nightmare, deep within he's still just a child.

Flowey’s mocking “ooh” and “aah” sounds when he gets hit being replaced with GENUINE screams if pain as he realizes that you’re actually starting to beat him as one of my favorite details in the whole game

Finale HAS to be one or the most powerful song in undertale. We aren't talking about good songs like megalovania or death by glamour, its about how it makes you feel. When you feel hopeless against this seemingly invincible enemy, and you suddenly see a ray of hope, you cling the hardest you can into it, you are DETERMINED to beat Omega flowey and feel such adrenaline to keep going! So far yet so CLOSE. The soundtrack is what really wraps this whole moment, everything is composed so perfectly, Toby fox really is, a genius. It's the only time in the game when I truly felt full of determination.
Finale made me feel more determined than ever when I played through undertale. I lost a hunderd times to undyne, I lost a hundred times to asgore but was determined to win and did. But omega flowey just made me feel hopeless. Like, how am I gonna beat that thing?? But then... "Flowey's defense dropped to 0!" and then this absolute banger which made me determined to beat him NO MATTER WHAT. Finale is probably one of the most powerful songs EVER.
0:55 such an underrated part! the intensity dropping as the screen reads “flowey’s defense dropped to 0”, and through all of the 8-bit boss-music-chaos you can hear bells begin to chime, an indication that this is the end as he unleashes this hail mary attempt to stop you. as somebody who doesn’t necessarily get a lot of emotion provoked from media or music, i love finding gems like this. it really brings out the theme of determination in this game, which is a reason why i think the neutral ending is very underrated! i have nobody to geek out to, so i thought i’d leave this comment :))

Someone in the comments said that Finale makes them sad. To that, I say: Finale gives me goosebumps, it does make me wanna cry, but it doesn't make me sad. Your Best Nightmare made me feel like I'm standing against the most horrible thing ever, and there is no hope. But then Finale came up, and everything changed. I remembered everything I (Frisk) lived through, I remembered everything I'd done this far, all for the sake of the monsters I'd met. Finale made me remember that I AM their hope and that I cannot fail, I cannot lose, even to the god of the underground. It doesn't make me sad, it makes me feel determined, even out of the game. It makes me feel that, whatever happens, I need to live on, because there is always someone who needs me to.
Patience. Bravery. Integrity. Perseverance. Kindness. Justice. *Determination.* I personally love this track. It really portrays the "You've tormented me long enough, now it's time to finish this once in for all!"

@@justdove1346 “don’t let up” is another phrase that is used when you are already winning heavy and does exist that means keep going and don’t lose any strength but instead gain strength and “don’t give up” is something you need more for a little pick me up of inspiration when you’ve fallen
Even after all these years i still listen back to this game's OST and remember the rollercoaster of emotions this battle was. The total feeling of hopelessness and dread, and that you're facing an opponent WAAAYY out of your league floods you in the first moments of the fight until you're thrown into the part with the patience soul, which scares you even further until you see that ACT button suddenly appear. Rushing into it and calling for help and seeing the knives suddenly transform into healing items makes you realize that the souls are the key to surviving it, and that there's a light at the end of the tunnel, which gives you a tiny bit of hope. The fight of course, continues to gradually spiral out of control more and more, but the souls keep showing up time and time again, and everytime one does you feel a sense of relief, knowing that they're there to help (or at least try to). Until all souls are reunited and that cutscene starts playing where they all give you their strength and power as this song begins. Then the message: *FLOWEY'S DEFENSE DROPPED TO 0!* fades in, and a huge wave of Hope, Will power, and DETERMINATION rushes in as you go absolutely nuts at flowey, unleashing everything you've got until its healthbar is dropped to 0. Then flowey just resets the save file, playing that "Ding" sound as your face turns from a determined smile into a frown of dread. You're then killed multiple times and flowey taunts you by making you realize how truly helpless you are, until suddenly the souls come rushing in at the last minute, saving you one last time. For the ending to a neutral route, this has got to be the most "rollercoaster of emotions" boss fight i've ever fought in any video game, and i get *chills* by just remembering it
And then, this isn’t even the final boss if we’re talking about True Pacifist. I think the dictionary definition for a rollercoaster of emotion is ‘Asriel Dreemurr boss fight’
Finale is the theme that plays in a normal final boss setting. And I think that perfectly encapsulates the Neutral route. While the Neutral route isn't my favorite, this boss theme has to be one of my favorites. With Megalovania, YOU are the villan of Undertale. With Hopes and Dreams, YOU are the ultimate pure hearted hero who's the good guy, the force that will save the world. With Finale... you're... you're you. You're just the protagonist. That's why I think Finale is the most realistic boss fight. In life, we aren't the villan most of the time and we sure as hell aren't the pure hearted hero. But we can be the protagonist of our own story, our own fates. It's just up to us to decide what we are and what we can be. That's why there's so many different Neutral route endings. You can either be a dickhead or just a nice guy. You usually aren't the dickheads of dickheads like in Genocide, but you aren't usually going to be the hero of heroes like Pacifist either.

in the first stage of the flowey fight you feel helpless, like no one is coming to save you. then the human souls assembled and persisted after death to aid you and suddenly, you aren't alone. you have a ray of hope. the little detail in which they occasionally heal you during the second stage to make sure you win really got to me..
Funny thing is after you "defeat" him, he actually was not losing since he still suddenly does that save-load file torture thing to you. That means those extra attacks out of desperation, he was faking them.

My favorite part about this fight, besides the music obviously, are the sounds that Flowey makes. Throughout the whole fight, whenever you hit him, he'd let out this fake, mocking little "Ooh!" He's toying with you. But once you get his health down past the halfway mark, he's letting out violent, painful sounds, *_"GRUEGH-"_*
At that point, he realized; no more games. You're not backing down from this one.

Another thing that I noticed is that Flowey's movements are slowed down when his defence drops to zero, he's weakened as the souls are refusing him and are fighting back, and as soon as the part at 1:00 kicks in, his movements get faster, despite being weakened, he's panicking and like you said, he realises; no more games. In his last ditch attempt to kill you, he throws EVERYTHING he can at you (which is why his movements get faster and his attacks drastically speed up). It turns from a one sided battle to a fight to the death.
I absolutely love Finale, i can't even put it into words, but it feels like every fallen child's hopes and dreams. Their final stand against the pain they've been through. And somehow, somewhere, Asriel sympathises with them, evidenced by the small His theme moment here. I wonder if Chara was watching him. Maybe he felt their presence.

So, fun fact. At about 0:40 there are very faint sounding bells in the background. You might need headphones to hear it. But it's actually His Theme playing. I love the tiny details like this. It is the only one of Flowey's songs to feature His Theme in any way. Flowey is so close to becoming Asriel here, he just needs one more soul. But he just can't get out. It's insane how much stuff Toby adds to his games you'd only realise on 2nd playthroughs

Now THIS is how you do a boss fight. Sans is intended to make you feel guilty, with the battle dragging on as your final struggle. Asriel has the player remember their whole journey and the friends they made. But here, it's just you and Flowey. It seems entirely hopeless. But you continue, knowing there must be some way to win. And that's also the message of the game, of determination. As the souls help you, the battle becomes one of even ground. That epic feeling of low to high is amazing. And all of this is conveyed through the music. Probably why I love it so much

Honestly, I believe that Asriel theme here plays so faintly its to show you can't spare omega flowey. This isnt who Asriel is anymore. While Asriel theme plays clearly in "Save the World" to signify you can save Asriel. Also, flowey's theme plays also clearly in "Hopes and Dreams" to signify that this isn't the true Asriel even though he may look like that, it isn't his true him and still has somewhat of "flowey" still inside of him. While flowey's theme in "Save the world" plays subtly combined with Asriels theme playing clearly to show that he even though he may look still evil, you can still save him! It's just a very cool thing I noticed. It's incredible how even through Undertale's music, you can get a clear understanding of characters and events and even story just by paying attention to it and noticing the various leitmotifs hidden inside them.
It's interesting you think that, and a lot of people do misconcept Flowey as well but Flowey and Asriel are the same being with no change in personality at all, Flowey at first wanted to help everyone and then realised about the resets and that nothing really matters so he eventually stoped caring about the people (or monsters i guess) he loved, i like to think that the his theme part means Flowey is almost ready to become Asriel, because we can see that when he aborbs everyone else's souls he finally becomes Asriel Dreemurr again
@@adambrando3792 Flowey literally has no soul, no compassion. Asriel is a very different entity even if they are technically the same person. It’s an interesting theory, but Flowey acts nice at first not because he cares about anyone (he has no soul, remember?) but because he still has a moral compass, therefore wanting to do good. But the part about him realising that nothing mattered is very true!

I never realized until now how this is, despite technically not being a "real" final boss to most people, is actually a perfect final boss for the neutral route, considering that you have to both act and fight to beat it.
And it's the boss of no mercy route,and you technically can kill him if you try for years.Which it can get hard to kill in no mercy (basically genocide but you don't look for them,you just kill the people in the way

There will come a day in my life when this music will perfectly describe what happened in my day and what kind of person I am now.
For me that is right now (cleaning my room about 45 minutes before the guests come)
This boss battle is god damn perfect. Every little aspect of it, from the presentation to the music to the gameplay, is executed flawlessly. Throughout the battle, there's that sinking, awful feeling of despair as you're faced with an abomination that you can never hope to defeat- who is so unimaginably powerful that your only chance at survival is to dodge frantically as the universe is literally crumbling around you. There is nothing you can do but cower in fear as Flowey torments you with his powers, saving and loading files to disorient you, channeling the power of each SOUL to attack you, crashing the game, etc. But then, that glorious moment, when those five blessed words appear on the screen: "Flowey's DEFENSE dropped to 0!"
Now you have a chance. Now you can finally give this damned flower what he deserves. Now... you are filled with DETERMINATION.
Personally, I like to imagine that the increased damage is not only a result of the SOULs lowering Flowey's defense, but also a result of Frisk finally regaining the will to fight back. They'd given up any hope of seeing their friends again or returning to the surface, resigning themselves to this fate of eternal torture, and they were unable to bring themself to do more than a few points of damage. But then, the SOULs give them an opportunity to fight back, to be reunited with their friends. And they take that opportunity, with everything they have.

Frisk determination is only so strong, Flowey had all the cards here, even DETERMINATION wouldn't have won unless it was the DETERMINATION of either Frisk pacifist ending or Chara's, all six other souls betray flowey and helped you, that's all, amazing six souls i must say :D

I love so much the fact that at 0:40 you can hear Asriel's theme playing quietly in the background. At this point, Flowey is only one soul short of returning to his true form, and the music shows how close Flowey is to becoming Asriel. This small detail also shows that somewhere deep inside Flowey there is still Asriel. Toby is a genius.
The two things that i found that reference flowey being Asriel before the true pacifist ending is during the new home sequence, one of the monsters says asriel died in the flower patch, and then in the genocide ending he says he became flowey. Then there’s that thing.

All of the Undertale final boss themes are some of the best ever, I like Finale just a little less than Hopes and Dreams/SAVE the World but WAY more than Megalovania. But none of these themes can even COMPARE to:

It's sad that most people are too busy focusing on the battle to actually appreciate the music.
And to top that off, the attacks block the song out too.

Flowey’s mocking “ooh” and “aah” sounds when he gets hit being replaced with GENUINE screams if pain as he realizes that you’re actually starting to beat him as one of my favorite details in the whole game

Really nails that feeling of desperation Flowey feels trying to grasp that one last soul, alongside the sense of overwhelming odds the fight envokes

The souls rebel, Floweys defense drops to 0, and his attacks are slowing. This is the final stretch, if you can just last a bit longer...

Finale HAS to be one or the most powerful song in undertale. We aren't talking about good songs like megalovania or death by glamour, its about how it makes you feel.
When you feel hopeless against this seemingly invincible enemy, and you suddenly see a ray of hope, you cling the hardest you can into it, you are DETERMINED to beat Omega flowey and feel such adrenaline to keep going! So far yet so CLOSE. The soundtrack is what really wraps this whole moment, everything is composed so perfectly, Toby fox really is, a genius.
It's the only time in the game when I truly felt full of determination.

I felt real determination during undyne, asgore, and flowey because they were the fight i really struggled with.
Finale made me feel more determined than ever when I played through undertale. I lost a hunderd times to undyne, I lost a hundred times to asgore but was determined to win and did. But omega flowey just made me feel hopeless. Like, how am I gonna beat that thing?? But then... "Flowey's defense dropped to 0!" and then this absolute banger which made me determined to beat him NO MATTER WHAT. Finale is probably one of the most powerful songs EVER.

such an underrated part! the intensity dropping as the screen reads “flowey’s defense dropped to 0”, and through all of the 8-bit boss-music-chaos you can hear bells begin to chime, an indication that this is the end as he unleashes this hail mary attempt to stop you. as somebody who doesn’t necessarily get a lot of emotion provoked from media or music, i love finding gems like this. it really brings out the theme of determination in this game, which is a reason why i think the neutral ending is very underrated! i have nobody to geek out to, so i thought i’d leave this comment :))

Someone in the comments said that Finale makes them sad. To that, I say: Finale gives me goosebumps, it does make me wanna cry, but it doesn't make me sad. Your Best Nightmare made me feel like I'm standing against the most horrible thing ever, and there is no hope. But then Finale came up, and everything changed. I remembered everything I (Frisk) lived through, I remembered everything I'd done this far, all for the sake of the monsters I'd met. Finale made me remember that I AM their hope and that I cannot fail, I cannot lose, even to the god of the underground. It doesn't make me sad, it makes me feel determined, even out of the game. It makes me feel that, whatever happens, I need to live on, because there is always someone who needs me to.

0:57 sends actual shivers down my spine
Even after all these years i still listen back to this game's OST and remember the rollercoaster of emotions this battle was.
The total feeling of hopelessness and dread, and that you're facing an opponent WAAAYY out of your league floods you in the first moments of the fight until you're thrown into the part with the patience soul, which scares you even further until you see that ACT button suddenly appear. Rushing into it and calling for help and seeing the knives suddenly transform into healing items makes you realize that the souls are the key to surviving it, and that there's a light at the end of the tunnel, which gives you a tiny bit of hope.
The fight of course, continues to gradually spiral out of control more and more, but the souls keep showing up time and time again, and everytime one does you feel a sense of relief, knowing that they're there to help (or at least try to). Until all souls are reunited and that cutscene starts playing where they all give you their strength and power as this song begins. Then the message: *FLOWEY'S DEFENSE DROPPED TO 0!* fades in, and a huge wave of Hope, Will power, and DETERMINATION rushes in as you go absolutely nuts at flowey, unleashing everything you've got until its healthbar is dropped to 0.
Then flowey just resets the save file, playing that "Ding" sound as your face turns from a determined smile into a frown of dread. You're then killed multiple times and flowey taunts you by making you realize how truly helpless you are, until suddenly the souls come rushing in at the last minute, saving you one last time.
For the ending to a neutral route, this has got to be the most "rollercoaster of emotions" boss fight i've ever fought in any video game, and i get *chills* by just remembering it
And then, this isn’t even the final boss if we’re talking about True Pacifist. I think the dictionary definition for a rollercoaster of emotion is ‘Asriel Dreemurr boss fight’

Finale is the theme that plays in a normal final boss setting. And I think that perfectly encapsulates the Neutral route. While the Neutral route isn't my favorite, this boss theme has to be one of my favorites. With Megalovania, YOU are the villan of Undertale. With Hopes and Dreams, YOU are the ultimate pure hearted hero who's the good guy, the force that will save the world. With Finale... you're... you're you. You're just the protagonist. That's why I think Finale is the most realistic boss fight. In life, we aren't the villan most of the time and we sure as hell aren't the pure hearted hero. But we can be the protagonist of our own story, our own fates. It's just up to us to decide what we are and what we can be. That's why there's so many different Neutral route endings. You can either be a dickhead or just a nice guy. You usually aren't the dickheads of dickheads like in Genocide, but you aren't usually going to be the hero of heroes like Pacifist either.

in the first stage of the flowey fight you feel helpless, like no one is coming to save you. then the human souls assembled and persisted after death to aid you and suddenly, you aren't alone. you have a ray of hope. the little detail in which they occasionally heal you during the second stage to make sure you win really got to me..

i love how at the start of the fight flowey only uses his star attacks but at 1:00 he uses all of his attacks realizing he’s losing

it's more like it starts slow to get you used to dodging and hitting the attack button, and it speeds up after you get enough time to figure it out
Funny thing is after you "defeat" him, he actually was not losing since he still suddenly does that save-load file torture thing to you. That means those extra attacks out of desperation, he was faking them.
