  • Ride along with MPGomatic.com as we aim for 80 MPG in a 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid in 360º VR ... It's more fun than watching paint dry! On this high MPG Stunt Drive we cruise the back roads and through town, aiming to maximize MPGs and optimize glide time. There's no secret to this. It's about understanding how the drive train works. And the Ioniq's drive train works really really well.

    You'll want to watch this with the RUclips app on an iPhone or Android device or with a browser capable of displaying 360º video.
    Vehicle tested: 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Limited, equipped with the Ultimate option package.
    Official EPA Fuel Economy Estimate: 55 city / 54 highway / 55 combined MPG.
    I'd like to go back to shooting these High-MPG Stunt Drives with a conventional three-camera setup, but I need to spend some dough to refresh my equipment shelf. The old cameras and mounts are tired. In particular, the camera that's zoomed up on the instrumentation needs a great lens and super-stabilization. Any time you zoom up on something in a moving vehicle, camera shake is a huge issue.
    MPGomatic produces car review videos with a unique focus on gas mileage, in-cabin technology, and driveability. Yep, we're the folks that shoot those 0-60 MPH tests.

    This is the most informative video I have ever seen. 360 is an added benefit to observing how you approach certain situations. I ended up getting a 2019 Hybrid blue model. The best. Im getting near 50mpg in 30-35 degree weather. The mpg champion.K

    Should have gotten the blue and hit 90 mpg. Those wheels and weight make a huge difference.

    Average speed limit for highways in Portland is 55mph. So Mpg would be crazy here?

    4k resolution and driver POV would make this video better!

      littleBear thanks for the input! I’m done with the 360° experiments for now. I’ve gone back to a 3-camera setup. 4K is a possibility, if my Mac can handle the larger files. Camera placement is an issue, though.

    Dan, I love your videos, but i'm not a fan of the 360 view for these type of reviews... I would rather have the 3 way setup you used to have, so I'm hoping you can update your equipment really soon... But again, great video and love the way you show us how to drive efficiently with an Hybrid car.. My next car will definitively be an Hybrid car, because your videos showed me the easiness of driving an hybrid car... :) If you have a way to received money for you to update your equipment, please let me know and I can always help a bit by sending you a few Canadian dollars to help... :)

    So how does it compare to the Prius?

    • @mpgomatic
      @mpgomatic  6 лет назад +2

      +Markus Withak Extremely well. The interior and exterior design are much less polarizing. They’re both amazingly efficient.

    I like the Ioniq but I'd have the EV.
    Though if I lived in the US instead of the UK, maybe the plug-in hybrid instead.

      +ianlorenc Hyundai did a great job on the Ioniq. Looking forward to driving the EV and plug in versions.

      When I go back to America, I'm going to be looking at the used Sonata and Ioniq plug ins. Great for city, but can make the distance drives between them if need be. America is so insanely big.

      I get 52 MPGs driving carefully and coasting 56 miles a day round trip, if I drive normally or speed my MPGs will drop down to 49 to 50 MPGs, but my commute is mostly low to medium hills so the mileage is not bad

    This mpg testing is misleading as it is only a short term result. The computer is averaging the result of how much fuel you have in the tank and your driving habits since the last time you reset the trip computer. So basically if you just filled the tank and reset it and did a short drive your numbers aren't realistic. I have gotten like close to 60 mpg on my Sonata before but that was only short term because I was on a road that was straight, flat and hardly any traffic and I had just filled the tank and reset the computer.
    This test needs to be assessed after he drives a full tank. He would come up with far less than 80mpg in the end.
    The people that obtain the stated manufacturer's mpg ratings or better are usually the ones that live where there is no congestion and not a lot of hills or they are the ones that are holding up everyone behind them.
    Hint: Prius drivers should not be allowed to use Express lanes and confined to the right lanes.

  • @greghinderliter
    @greghinderliter 5 лет назад

    yea, so what is the gas mileage....not what the car computer says....u should fill it up, drive it, then fill it up again then do the calculations.

    I looked at the Ioniq, and loved the extra mpg, but it is just awful to look at. I ended up with a Niro LX.

    • @mpgomatic

      Dennis Midkiff Niro is cool. I’m holding out for the super slippery ultra aero undeniably gorgeous and affordable hybrid … I tested a Lexus LC 500 last week, but not the hybrid version. I think it ruined me for life. 🤣
