Imagine if Edge of Extinction wasn’t a thing and Devens was just the fourth person voted out. We would have never known what a great and entertaining survivor player he was.
True haha. I was actually hoping he gets voted out because while i liked him it was between him and David and i liked David more. But after his return when it came down to it i was actually rooting for him even over David lol
imagine how many legends we have missed because of one person getting personal over nothing and voting someone out early
This guys is one of the best survivor players we’ve ever seen. Finding idols left and right, lowkey challenge beast, good at forming relationships. When he came back he dominated the merge
Yessir this season would’ve been an absolute dud if it wasn’t for devens and the idols and then the eye candy of Lauren O’Connell
Devens was not good at the game....he was voted out 4th. But yes, he was good at scavenger hunts.

@@jakerussell7537 yeah and he got to the end on 2 other seasons. Rick got voted out 4th on his only try and then relied on scavenger hunts to stay in the game after he inexplicably got a lucky 2nd chance

Honestly Gavin played a solid game. If it wasn't for Chris going on a 4 week vacation and building bonds without any social pressure with the people who are going to be voting for a winner Gavin would have definitely won that season. He was always on the right side of numbers and never had his name written down

He states that Jeff likes Devens, “even though he is not supposed to have personal opinion of any players” which is technically true. Jeff is SUPPOSED to be an impartial host, yet we clearly know this is not the case and has personal favorites (i.e. Boston Rob, Parvati, Cochran, etc.) . The question is whether or not Jeff’s personal opinions influence the game and unfortunately they do at times.

Whatever your opinion is on the controversial Edge of Extinction twist, Rick Devens is definitely the prime example that we sadly inevitably lose good, entertaining players too early in this game.

I would love to see a Second Chance 2 with Rick Devens! No winners, just really good players. This was one of my favorite seasons. Lauren held her own as well. This season is good to show someone who hasn’t watched Survivor in awhile how the game has evolved.

He is a really funny guy but an incredibly overrated player. Forcing yourself into a position where you have to find idols every day to stay in the game doesn't make you good at the game. Survivor is supposed to be a game about social politics not a scavenger hunt. TBH i was happier with the Chris win then a Devens win.

Coming back from the Edge of Extinction, 4 individual immunity challenges, 4 idols, 2 fake idols. Rick Devens is one of the best players to ever play this game (probably second to Russell from Samoa).
I agree. Russell played in a different era though, which is part of why he dominated so much and also part of why the jury didn't vote for him

@@rayman6682 Devens put himself in a spot where he had to win Final 4 immunity to win the game. He didnt. So actually it was Gavin who got cheated out of a win (and not by EOE, but by the fire making challenge. Devens was a super easy final 4 vote, and chris shouldnt have had a chance to "take out the king")

Devens is in my Top 5 Most EXCITING Performances of All-Time! The others are Russell in Samoa, Tony in Cagayan, Kelly in Second Chance and Ben in HvHvH. It's always such a blast when you've got an individual, who's the biggest target in the game, running the island finding advantages and idols, while all the other players are bumping into each other like blind mice. Here's to hoping Devens, not only gets to play again, but also can pull off another exciting game and maybe even get the W!

It’s like I have a curse or something. Every time I pick a favorite player at the beginning of the season, they always get out on the last tribal council of the season.
Devens was one of my favorite players to watch, a great underdog and very entertaining. He did rely heavily on hidden immunities but he sorta had to because there was no way he was gonna be able to play the social game that late in the season. He did what he could with the hand he was dealt and I’d love to see him come back for a second chance
Exactly and what i never understand is people complaining about him and Ben from season 35 saying they benefitted from all the hidden immunity idols. What proof does anyone have that there were more immunity idols available their seasons then the others? Ben and Rick had to find the idols and play them, which puts them back in the game. In other seasons the idols were there as well if u ask me but the casts didnt put as much effort into finding them or they werent played as often, which makes them available to be found again, if u ask me!
Rick is by far my favorite player of all time. Every week, I wondered what impossibility he’d pull off and he never ceased to amaze me.
Like him or not, Devens played the best game this season as when everyone refused to work with him, he kept working by finding idols and making fakes to live another day. Took a gutsy move by Chris to eliminate him. His fire wasn’t bad he probably would have made it to F3 against gav or Julie.
FriscoBaller TV Finding idols was the only thing he did. He otherwise played a pretty poor game. Even then, just because you find idols doesn’t make you some amazing player.
BeardedDragon3534 I know it seemed that way, but rick fought hard from the edge of extinction, and came back a harder more strategic player. Without him finding to idols and playing them specifically when he needed to he would not have lasted that long. That is what makes him a great player in my opinion.

Survivor Legend 68 I’ll give credit where credit is due. His immunity wins were impressive, and there is something to be said about finding four idols. However, you can’t just ignore the social and strategic games.
@@Caleb1618 He didn't tho. Ever since he was first voted off he worked HARD to re-establish a better social game and make relationships in the process. He did so by embracing the simple but masterful Sandra move of "As long as it ain't me" which was the smartest thing he could've done when he first came back. It left him open to work with everyone and everyone wanted to work with him when he came back. I get the similarities to Ben that people call out, but we must acknowledge that while Ben just willingly gave up on the social game and isolated himself without even attempting to make amends, Devens worked his ass off to not only look for these idols and openings but also to pull in anyone he could for the life of him. Hell, there were times where voting incorrectly even worked to his benefit just by proving his loyalty to others that gained his trust even tho they were lying to him the whole time, like in that Ron blindside. And the fantastic move he made to take advantage of Julie's emotional instability and got Kama to turn against each other and vote out Aurora instead of her. I'd say that was the best move made the entire season until Chris made the power move at the final four. Devens is a phenomenal player, and his game was strong on all fronts. Now up there with Cesternino, Cirie, David, Penner, Aubry, and Wentworth as one of the best players to never win the game.
Ironically The two people who came back after they were eliminated played the best games

Its not that hard to understand, he played a great game and everyone knew if they took him to Final 3 he would end up winning the whole thing. He lost because he didnt win the Final Immunity and he lost the fire making challenge against Chris, its that simple thats why he didnt win otherwise he would have won bc he did play a great game once he got back from Edge of Extinction.

They did everything they could to vote them out yet they both won. Dont get me wrong there is such a thing as bitter jury members ive seen it time and again but that is why this game is so interesting to watch because you never know and though it sucks if someone wins bc of a bitter jury, the person who wins, wins and that can never be taken away.

I really like Devens. Despite constantly being a target, he definitely was entertaining. He was one of my top 4 favorites from this season and I strongly feel that he deserves a second chance along with Lauren, Victoria, and Aurora.
He is my all time favorite contestant on Survivor. Hands down. He deserved the million dollars but Chris took him down, so Chris also deserved it at the end.

Well technically before the live finale Chris was contacted for winners at war but declined the offer due to him just getting married and going on his honeymoon. So technically Chris was spoiled on the fact that he won.
@@alexgalvez7861 Not totally true. Chris was contacted for season 40, which at the time wasn't confirmed to be winners at war. Non-winners such as Domenick and Lex were also contacted.

Omg I'm so late watching this season but Rick Devins was the best survivor player I've ever watched play this game. He makes you laugh, he makes you cry cause you feel for him and he makes you literally jump up and down with excitement at his amazing plays.. bruhh I was sad when he lost against Chris. They definitely need to bring him back for a new season.

Jeff said Rick devens is the player he wants to come back the most out of anyone.
The night Rick plays his idol is probably one of the most BOSS ASS moves I’ve ever seen on Survivor. It is up there. He was incredibly entertaining and I’d love him back. Knowing that advantage was fake and asking Ron directly if he was trying to make him look like an idiot, while continuing to make them look like idiots and playing his idol and calling them liars, my favorite moment is the “peace, bro” he gives to Ron right before his vote is read. So damn Gansta. Love it. Also love how by making the fake idols he gets to revel in it a little longer. That high got him as far as it did and mad props from a true Survivor fan.
They better bring devens back for a second chance. One of the greatest screen presents in survivor history. Also absolutely hilarious
I think that chris played a good game, but he came back in way too late to matter, I think the reason many hate him is because many people have a feeling that everyone that was there 39 days and worked so hard to get there was undermined by him just weaseling back in and stealing the win that Devins deservingly worked for

From underdog to alpha dog. The story of Rick devens and how he became the king of survivor. Slayed by the same double edged sword with which he used to rise to the top. By far the best season of survivor yet and the best person to play the game. I really enjoyed rewatching these highlights! You are still the fans champion Rick! Sorry you didn't get the million dollar prize though!
Devens and David are an underrated dynamic duo
I live in Macon, and for some reason when I was growing up, I had this fascination with the local news shows that we have. I'm 17 now, and even though my phase of really liking the news faded several years ago, I always had this feeling about Rick when I saw him that he was destined for something awesome. Once my phase was gone, I chalked that feeling up to it being part of my kiddy imagination, so when this season started, I was like "the old prophecy must actually be true then." It was freaky though, and my love for the news came back although it's not as strong. If somehow Rick sees this, I knew you'd go far in this game for as long as I can remember, so I guess I'm an Oracle now.

Not even close. His gameplay sucked donkey balls. What moves did he make? Finding an idol just to simply survive the vote isn't a game winning move. The only think he had going for him was that Julie and Gavin (maybe) were goats. I'd predict that Gavin may have beaten him if that was the finale.

I honestly want both Devens and Chris back in a season without a twist that allows you to come back after getting your torch snuffed. Both great players who didn't really do too much wrong pre-merge but still got voted out, which taints their stories.
Eh Chris did everything wrong that he could. He agreed to blindside Kelly but then goes ahead and tell one of her closest Ally about the plan despite Dave specially asking him not to do so.
Rick atleast i can agree because it was just an unfortunate tribe swap for him where he and Dave where stuck in a tribe of 5 with a strong 3 person alliance.
@Phoenix A V He only made ONE error. That wasn't his plan, that was David and Devens' plan. Chris was supposed to float that idea to Wardog and say it was the other guys' idea, but Chris made it sound like it was his idea (probably to protect David and Devens) and promptly got voted out. All he had to do was out David and Devens.

Just a new survivor fan, used to watch it as a kid but didnt really know the characters. Tony was by far one of my favourite contestants but after finding this video im on ricks team now. I had absolutely no hope for hik at the start of the video and to see him come 4th place at the end after being targeted and even kick to the edge so many times. Dude is a survivor legend!

It was actually the other way around. Chris had the idol and gave the other half to Rick.

No what I mean is Chris gave him the other half of the idol, then Rick gave it back. If Rick did not give it back Rick would have played his idol and stayed and Chris would have went home. Then judging by the challenge in the final four Julie would have won it, then she would take Lauren to the end and Gavin and Devens would have battled it out in the fire challenge.

I think it speaks a lot to Ricks character and why I loved him so much. At the end when he reflects on everything he's learned about himself, he says it will make him a better dad, and husband.
I notice most folks say these things make them a better person first then say how it will affect relationships, but Rick immediately thinks about his family. It's small, but it hits me hard.

Rick Devens is top 5 players of all time he made one mistake by saving Chris but you never know how karma will play out. Statistics wise he has won more challenges, made more big moves, blindsides and found more idols than any one player Rick, Ozzie, Joe, Ben, Michaela B., Cochran and Stephenie are my favorite ones of all the seasons

Wow just watched this and I am now remembering how fun it was to cheer for him each week. I was remember being so devastated when he lost the fire making challenge. In an alternate universe he is the King of Survivor, and definitely on my Mt. Rushmore of best Survivor players. Hope he gets to return in a future season soon!
