Man, you hit it all the bullseyes dead on, and I for one, couldn't agree more with you.
There are repairs that are better suited for the independent shops, run of the mill, brakes, tires, etc...
But for the more in depth repairs.. Dealer all the way. Yes you'll pay more... BUT... If they F it up, or it goes bad again. they OWN it and have to fix it. It's their baby now! Also, they have info, and knowledge (from years of working on them, as you point out) that the independents don't.
And yup! The dealer owner is laughing all the way to the bank
.. and YOU'RE RIGHT.. Somewhere in life he made the right moves and deserves the rewards of his success... its called capitalism! 👍🏼

This is a good topic. I have a 2018 w/ 48k miles. I always take it to a dealership for the oil change. I’m thinking about a differential and transfer case oil change as well. I just trust their expertise with Toyota vehicles. That said it seems like whenever I go to the dealership I have a hard time discerning a “safety check” they do and what is really needed versus knowing they are a business and have sales objectives
change your own oil if its not free... toyota and honda sometimes offer free oil changes for a period after you buy.
fluid changes are really wasy to
do and generally won't void or effect a warranty.
doing something bigger like getting a timing belt changed or changing an alternator its worth bringing in unless you are a mechanic
Just had the diffs oil serviced, not cheap but good to do.
@@MTMind69 I would do it myself but it can get messy and then you have to dispose of the oil.
I used dealer to change diffs, xfer case, and drain and fill only on trans at 40K. Can you do it yourself? Heck yeah! Do you want to in 10 degrees? Heck NO!
And at least you know it's OEM fluid. Pay once, cry once.
