Amazing that Davey left Doc in after allowing four straight batters to reach with two outs in the ninth. You'd never see that today, but Davey had well-justified faith in Doc. Memorable game.
How much the game has changed. These days, Gooden maybe goes 7, the Mets bring in about 6 different relievers to get the last 6 outs, maybe even the last 9. Going the distance with the winning run at bat, shows how managers trusted their starters more, and let them go deeper into games.
Great video...thank you for posting. btw - mid-first as Andujar is running off field (after giving up a tough run on two soft singles and arguably an e4) still stops to pick up piece of Strawberry's bat and hand it to bat boy. How many players would even think to do that today?
Imagine Ralph Kiner announcing this game. The game in 1985 doesn't look that much different from 1955. Now imagine Kiner alive in 2021, announcing a game today--it looks completely different from the rules (no blocking the plate, replays, automatic IBB) to the attitudes of the players to the wussification of the game (pitchers don't complete games, no one plays through pain). The game completely sux now, which is why I'm watching a game from 1985.
even though it sucked to make 2nd place, I loved the 4 division era. Guaranteed that you saw the best vs the best in postseason. These old games are a godsend!
Someone needs to hogtie the MLB brass to chairs and force them to watch game after game from the 60's through the 80's and maybe they will finally realize how much the modern game sucks in comparison.
It’s J o’s who have been asking why I haven’t been putting up games from the 1986 season so their basically complaining (some nasty “how dare I not” about that..and because of that I decided to put all the games from 1986 at a later date (patience us priceless)
@@pheniafilmsthemlbarchiveso9229 why is that classic game mets and astros played on july 3 rd 1986 so hard to find, i was at that game strawberry hit 2 hrs one of them tied the game in bottom of 10 nth inning with 2 outs and ray knight hit a HR to win it in the next at bat,
Ralph Kiner and Tim Mc Carver best of the best.... brings back memories......greetings from Queens,New York ✌️
Remember when the Cards were our (Mets) biggest, fiercest rivalry? Great times.
What a week that was. So close. The Cards were just so good. Thx for the video.

Thanks so much !!! Really takes me back to being a teenager, watching all these games again. Thanks so much!!!
That thumbnail, Big George looking FIERCE! A terrifying hitter in the NL from 1975-1981, Hall of Fame level, my favorite player from 1977-1983.
I was never happier than at this time in my life.

I couldn’t imagine watching today’s so called baseball, I’d rather watch paint then the game from the last 22 years,,,
These days relief pitchers are apt to blow leads and lose the game

A shame this game is missing the 2nd and 3rd innings.
What a great era and rivalry. Two completely different teams duking it out.

Unfortunately we lost the third game of the series and cost us the division.
Pretty weird play in the 9th, not often u see a SS and 2B collide on a routine grounder.
1:28:24 dont bother probably going to be an awful season lol
