McCarver will always be remembered for his hostile situation with Deion Sanders. He was a knowledgeable baseball mind..... and he was very gracious towards Ralph Kiner throughout their time together in the broadcasting booth.
Just cuz the majority of people remember a person a certain way doesn't mean that is who he is. He is much more to us as Mets fans : a beloved wonderful color commentator
Yes indeed. 1986 was the last year that WOR-TV carried the Mets and it was also the last year where the “Dotted 9” logo appeared before RKO General, the company that owned WOR-TV was sold to MCA the following year in early 1987 where they added the second W and it became WWOR-TV and the “Dotted 9” logo was changed to the generic “9” logo which was short lived, and then changed to the “Trapezoid 9” by the fall of 1987. WOR-TV has been using the “Dotted 9” logo since the 1970’s.
LFGM!!! I remember watching this game on this day. They were not the best team in baseball history but who would have known that the 86 Mets would be the craziest team in baseball history!
This performance is what made Gooden special. He had so much in reserve that he could finish you off and go 9 with his B game. His 9th inning was heroic by today's standards.
true, but watching this game I could tell something was differrent about Doc. He wasn't anything like 1984 &1985 and much more hittable from this day on. Little did we know he was high on coke all season.
@@donwert70The lead off hr was telling, but he really started 86 where he left off in 85 except his Ks were a bit down. Pitcher of the month in April, had a 1.04 ERA going into a day game against the Reds in May, after pitching a 2 hitter against the Astros in the start before that. He got hit hard in that Reds game and got absolutely destroyed against the Giants in SF shortly after, and then it really was never the same.
Watched this rooting for the Pirates from LA, seeing that Doc did not really have his K pitch going, hoping against hope, but knowing those teams were mismatched. So many scrap heap Pirates left from the poor 1984-1985 seasons. Thanks for bringing this back to the masses.
Championship teams have a certain look. You sometimes can't tell whether they are a power team, a contact team, or a running and defense team. They have a kind of balance in their lineup that allows for dynamic offense, homers or no homers. Steve Cohen, take notice!
I’d rather have the late John Stearns than David Stearns. Mark my word: Young David will eventually get eaten alive here in the Big Apple. If he thinks he is going to let Pete Alonso walk and build with his small market mentality he is off his rocker.
This was baseball the way is it was meant to be played. NO STUPID DH, NO STUPID BIGGER BASES, NO STUPID RUNNER AT 2B TO START AN XTRA INNING, NO STUPID RULE WHEREBY A PITCHER CANNOT THROW MORE THAN THREE TIMES TO PICK OFF A RUNNER AT 1B.
Boy,I how I miss RALPH KINER and TIM McCARVER!!! R.I.P. both of them.

My beloved 1986 New York Mets
Billy Ocean “When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going”
I loved the intro at the beginning of the 1986 WWOR broadcasts. Bring it home Mets, bring it home!

Love my New York Mets Baseball ⚾🇺🇸❤️🙏✝️ World Series Champions 1969, 1986 🏆🏆💍💍⚾🇺🇸❤️🙏✝️
I hope that the 1986 Mets season will end well, maybe even reach the playoffs
I think they have a shot to win the NL Eastern Division. Asking for a pennant or world series would be asking too much.

And he did it after giving up a lead off home run his first batter

My childhood obsessions were the Mets, Hulk Hogan, the Jets, Ohio State Football and Movies....Time of my life!
Real baseball
PBP: Ralph Kiner, Tim McCarver and Steve Zebriske
Zabriskie is still alive and well.

Barry Bonds debuted a month later
RALPH KINER MENTIONED FRANK CASHEN. CASHEN WAS THE BEST GM IN METS' HISTORY, MINI MARKET DAVID STEARNS INCLUDED.

RJ Reynolds came out smokin' in this one.
RJ Reynolds always seemed to hit the Mets well
Say what you want 86 Mets played HARD.
I wrote about this game for SABR last year:

Strongly disagree. Universal DH and shorter extra inning contests are good for the game. Love the pitch clock too.
Stupid commie rules..
Per the intro, the Cardinals did NOT “win it all in ‘85.” 😂
There will be no more drugs in baseball. Now here's a word from Budweiser.
