- Another NBC Game of the week out from the VHS archives and transferred to DVD (2002) and recently Digitalized and restored making its debut on my RUclips page from the 1986 MLB season as the Mets get closer to the magic numbers and get ready for post season.
Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola for NBC and includes pre game show including Marv Albert's achievement awards for the week.
Andy Hawkins vs Ron Darling as the starters and both pitch a good game and New York comes from behind late in the ball game thanks to Gary Carter who again hits a pair of homers one in the sixth and the other in the 8th off Hawkins reliever Lance McCullers as Ron Darling pitches seven innings allowing three runs on twelve hits including Steve Garvey's 21st Homerun of the season in the 2nd inning as Jesse Orosco comes in the seventh hold off San Diego allowing only one hit and to pick up the win as the Mets continue to surge ahead for the post season and hats off to Kid Carter in this one.
Also includes Post Game interview with Gary Carter & NY Local news segments

Boy, tgose were the days!! A well structured ballclub by the best GM the METS ever had, FRANK CASHEN. Solid starters, solid relievers, speed, power, character, guts, grits and solid leadership.
BILL ROBINSON and BUD HARRELSON, coaches, and HALL OF FAMER GARY CARTER, R.I.P. all of them.
God Bless the 1986 New York Mets
God Bless Marc Albert

RIP Gary Carter & Tony Gwynn
Vin and Joe were great together. NBC Saturday In the 80s was must see tv . As seamlessly and smooth as Vin and Joe's chemistry was , Vin always insisted on Working Dodgers games solo.
I've always liked Gary Carter. Seems like a swell guy and a terrific ball player.
Godspeed Gary, wherever you are.
He's probably somewhere playing baseball every day.
The interview after the game with Carter is tremendous. So insightful and awesome
7 years old watching game of the week in 1986 living in Brooklyn thats when i first heard Vin Scullys voice and ill never forget it condolences to his family
Isaac,I was 8 and watching it from Greenpoint Brooklyn on the family US made Zenith in the living room.⚾🇺🇸
Last night I watched part of the 8/16/86 game when Carter got hurt. That was my 16th birthday, and it was one of the worst birthdays I ever had, with Gary's injury being the icing on the cake. He was always my favourite, and I really enjoyed watching this one today. Thank you so much for sharing! :)
Always watched NBC Saturday gm of the wk as a kid
Thank you for this one! Actually ALL of them you have posted. 1970's 1980's are best and fond memories
The great Tony Gwynn.
@36:08 - Sort of a similar arrangement to Bobby Bonilla; Goose Gossage received deferred payments from the Padres of $240,000 per year from 1990-2006 and $125,000 from 2007-2016.
A great era for baseball in NY, missed most of these games due to overseas Military service, thank you for uploading!
Yes... what got me into baseball as a child doesn't exist anymore...it's like waking up out of a perfect dream.
This was one the best classic games to cherish
TONY GWIN AND GARY CARTER, TWO SOLID PLAYERS, HALL OF FAMERS AND A CREDIT TO THE GAME ON AND OFF THE FIELD. I REMEMBER SEEING RONY GWINN PLATING WINTER BALL FOR THE BAYAMON COWBOYS IN PUERTO RICO ALONG WITH DAN DRESSEN AND A YOUNG ART HOWE.
Thanks for posting this.
You will never see baseball like that that ever again.
Tell me about it.. there's was so many mystical dynamics to it. I was still playing with toys and collecting baseball cards in 86 and to make things extra magical I was a Mets fanatic as a child...Summer Saturdays were so complete from Saturday cartoons to MLB on NBC to WWF Saturday night main event.
Love The New York Mets Baseball ⚾🇺🇸❤️🙏✝️ ... New York Mets World Series Champions 1969, 1986 💍💍🏆🏆
Loving these 1986 games and the great quality video… Thank you!
The ‘86 mets..what a team. It was good to be living in NY during this period of time. I was 9 years old when this game was played. I miss good ol’ shea stadium. She wasn’t the best stadium, but she was OUR mediocre stadium.
Yeah I agree first the Mets than 3 months later the Giants, it’s too bad the Giants didn’t get the ticker tape parade that the Mets did and even the Rangers got 7 years later, because of a petty Decision by the mayor, the NY Giants deserved that parade in Manhattan especially considering how great that team was,,,the 1986 and 1990 Giants Super Bowl teams were way better than the two winners in 2007 and 2011, As for Shea Stadium I am one of those who really doesn’t care about how great a Stadium looks and luxury boxes etc, I just go to the game sit down and watch great baseball and great players which is what the Mets teams were during this period, you couldn’t pay me enough money to have me go to that new stadium they play in and watch subpar teams with subpar players who aren’t nearly as talented as the players before and just play to get a paycheque so they can buy mansions and sports cars,,,
I watched the closing ceremonies in 2008 for Shea Stadium to realize how important the place was to Mets fans.
The first two hits off Hawkins served as a microcosm of the Mets' banner year.⚾😂
I like these Padres uniforms.
The part where Joe Garagiola was talking about the year 2016 is kind of unsettling: that's the year he would actually die.
Yes, unsettling indeed.
Let's go Mets Baseball🇺🇲⚾⚾🇺🇲❤️
McReynolds didn't exactly expect to be the Mets starting left fielder on Opening Day 1987.⚾😂🇺🇸
I WAS GLAD WHEN THE METS ACQUIRED KEVIN McREYNOLDS. HE MADE THE TRANSITION FROM CENTER FIELD TO LEFT FIELD AND WAS SID IN DEFENSE AND OFFENSE WITH THE METS.
Carter's first homer: 1:10:56
Carter's second homer: 1:55:07
0:12 Marv Albert, more than just an NBA guy.
It’s too bad he didn’t contribute to TBS MLB coverage with interviews and the Albert Achievement Awards.
Marv will retire in July after the NBA Eastern Conference Finals
So, Goose Gossage deferred 1.2m way before Bobby Bonilla did his contract
Joe and Vin shocked Tony Gwynn was leading the league in hitting with all the “turmoil” surrounding the team. Really? #19 could go 4 for 4 with the country on the brink of a nuclear attack.
Tony Gwynn needs the nickname of "Mr. 400" for what he would have done in 1994.
By 1988 Mets road uni's had the 'block letters'
Missing bottom of 4th
'86 Pad's were a reunion of 70's KC Royals coaches - Boros, Dunlop, Cisco and Jack McKeon in the front office.
Bowa was a total mess in SD
Vin shows why he was an outfielder at Fordham, not a pitcher
Mets lost some attendance #'s that summer because of the ongoing waterproofing of the upper deck concrete, closing off
2 - 4 sections (4-5 K) from rightfield to left during games. U can see this @ 1:44:10
@ 1:43:31 MLB cocaine PSA voice over by Bruce Dern
Replay @ 1:57:07, tight shot of Carter's eyes was used again 10/22 when Carter hit 2 HR's at Fenway game #4 of The Series.
See it again @ 2:15:44 - ruclips.net/video/emOsVM-obJk/видео.html
I love how teams beat San Diego on their way to a championship.
It is interesting to see Vin and Joe commenting about the year of "2016" and how players defer their salaries into the future re: Goose Gossage's salary. I think the Mets are still paying Bobby Bonilla.
A great Mets game. So sad about Gary Carter.
KEVIN McREYNOLDS ALSO PLAYED WINTER BALL IN P.R.
WALLY BUNTING IN THE FIRST INNING. WHO THE HELL KNOWS HOW TO BUNT NOWADAYS IN TODAY'S CRAPPY BASEBALL??
Do you have the following games?
9/17/86 vs. Cubs (NL East Clincher)
9/25/86 at Cubs (Mets win 100th game of the season)
1986 NLCS Game 3, 5, and 6
1986 WS Game 6 and 7
Sorry I don’t do requests I only post what I have ..and will not upload games that are already on RUclips (like 1986 NLCS)
Must be Lance McCullers Jr Father Right?
Yes he was a relief pitcher
The mets ruled, Reagan was president, life was good..
Over 47,000 fans i at SHEA STADIUM. Now the METS get barely 35,000 fans. As a matter of fact there has been an 18 percent drop off in attendance at CITIFIELD.
